Now this is a strange review. Most of us would say spending 8hr in a car dealership is insane. Yes I would agree, however I did and was glad I did. First of all I needed to be here due to a lease that was up. That was first and foremost. We have been doing business with Shockley for 7yr. We deal with Coy who is a great sales associate and very customer centric. So we go in to see about the lease and they had a sale going on. So we looked around. We also needed a car for our older child and figured this was a good start. Well Coy took care of us. Not only did we get a leased deal for our oldest but we came out with two other new Accords. We had 0.9% financing and saved 13K on three new cars. Coy was a pleasure to work with and I recommend if you want an honest person to deal with go here and ask for Coy. Tell him Larry sent you. I knew I wanted to stay with the Honda brand of cars, so I started looking at local (DC area) dealerships to test drive the car I was interested in, and to see how competitive pricing would be. Since the car I wanted was new to Honda (CR-Z) and I wanted a manual transmission (a rarity at most dealerships), actually finding a car was a challenge, especially one within my price range. After going to one dealership where the salesman treated me like an idiot, I was not impressed. They only had one model left, and it was the high end package (too $$) and a color I really didn't want. He wouldn't budge on the price at all, so I told him I was really after a silver or black EX, and goodbye. Wouldn't you know that after I got up and walked out, he immediately emailed me to tell me he tracked down a silver model and that he could get it for me for some ridiculous price plus a non-refundable $500 deposit. Um, no. Anyway, since I'm not an idiot, and I can use this crazy thing called the internet to find stock of any local dealership (along with prices), I tracked down this mystical silver CR-Z myself. I found it at Shockley Honda for $1300 LESS than what this other dealership was claiming was the price. I immediately emailed the dealership and begged my brother to drive me up to Frederick to go check it out. Long story short, I got the car I wanted at an amazingly great price. They price things really aggressively, and they were definitely a lot cheaper than every other dealership I contacted. The internet sales guy, John, was very friendly and helpful. The process took a while (omg 30985 forms), but he made sure I left happy. He even got in the car with me and set up the bluetooth and explained some of the features (which, after you've been driving a 16-year old car with manual everything, is a little bit intimidating and confusing). Since then, I've only had to return once to the dealership (for a Honda recall), but everyone at the dealership was super friendly. The repair took less time than they said it would, and they even gave my car a complementary car wash without my needing to ask. I'd definitely recommend them as a Honda dealership, and if I'm ever in the market for another car, they will be the first for me to check out. read more

I know that car dealership experiences can vary from the dealership itself to the salesperson you work with. I was lucky to have a great experience at Shockley. My girlfriend and I visited on 3/5 to test drive the new Honda Fit and Honda CRV. Though the person I'd made the appointment with was unavailable, I was quickly reassigned to Bill Workman, who helped me test drive the vehicles. They also appraised my car quickly, and I walked out with a detailed price sheet; I wasn't ready to make a decision because I wanted to see the Fit in different colors. Shockley has a "woman-friendly business" sticker on their front door, and though I was pleased to see it, I didn't realize how much something like that matters until we visited Criswell in Germantown. There, we received the "typical" car dealership experience: slimy salespeople, long abandonments, refusal to appraise my vehicle ("can you bring in dates of last service, new tires, etc?" -- this was an 11 year old car; they were just going to scrap it) and kept trying to convince me to buy a Civic because I could do it that day (?? if I wanted a Civic, I would say so.) I knew after leaving I'd be buying my vehicle from Shockley. They treated me with respect, negotiated with me on the price, and though I know one can always do better, I walked out with keys in hand the following Tuesday with a fair price based on research and a car I was truly excited about. I hope my initial pleasure in working with Shockley continues as I use them for my service. Overall, though, everyone we encountered was pleasant, Bill Workman was kind, thorough, respectful and personable, and I'm pleased to have started a longterm relationship with their dealership. I particularly recommend if you are a single woman looking to purchase a car, and hope you have as good an experience as I did. read more

Overall 4 stars. Shockley promised to price match and they actually beat my best lease offer by $7 a month!! 5 stars for that. Honestly the only reason I made the trip was because I knew they had the car I wanted in stock and they were relatively close to my house. My initial email interactions weren't all that great, not bad, just flat and not all that eager to work with me. If you are not crazy about dealing with customers online you probably shouldn't be the one handling internet sales. Just saying. 3 stars for that portion of my experience. However once I got there everyone was great and they made good on their price match promise. read more

I took my car in for an oil change, InSight 2019 with 27000 miles on it. I told the service people that warnings had come on a few days ago but are not on now, if they could check it out. The car had a recall on it for the sensors and sounded like what we had experienced. After a few hours later the service department called me to tell me the sensor had dirt from the road covering the sensor slightly and they would be charging me for 30 minutes of the shop rate (69.99). $70 to clean the sensor, really, the service also was supposed to enclosed a car wash which the paper said it was to cold. Kind of funny because when I picked my car up and was sitting in the car and another car was coming out of the car wash, I could hear the blowers on. So to charge me for a spot clean was just crazy. The service department was very pushy on trying to get me to buy the Major service which included a Transmission drain. I told them I would check with my husband and let them know. Once I got home I looked up on Honda's web site for maintains on a Honda InSight and no major services are needed until 90,000 miles, I am far from that. After the car was there about 3 hours the service people called and again tried to tell me the transmission fluid needed drain. I told her what I had looked up and she tried to explained to me that the service they are trying to get me to do is $551 and is recommended by Shockley to do at 20 k, 30 k, and 60 k all for $551, funny because Honda feels the car doing not need it until 90 k. After picking my car up at 3:30 in the afternoon I called to speak to a manager about the car wash and was told he would be right with me. After being on hold for 15 minutes I called back and was told that there was no manager in they had all left for the day. So that was yesterday and still not call back at 11:45 the next day. We live in Frederick and love my InSight but we will not be taking it to Frederick for any services or buying any more cars from there. read more

The first time I went to see if I could trade in my lease early, which I couldn't, but I was told to come back in a few months and so I did. The second time, Nate Janes was the one to help me and he was a rockstar! Not only was he so kind and helpful, but he knew his stuff and was a wealth of knowledge! THIEVES!!!! After charging us for three new clutches on our Acura, their mechanic said all we needed was for the fuel injectors to be cleaned... to the tune of $60!!!! The service writer and service manager refused to make ANY adjustment for the three unnecessary clutches. And, Honda referred us back to Shockley, who would not even take, or return, our phone calls. Bad deal for service. New to area: took car in for MD inspection. Their hourly labor rate is much higher than competitors: inspection cost $130! Also service manager declined to mention that after their morning courtesy driver goes home they can't pick up customers from Ft. Detrick. Pro tip: if you drop a customer off on base maybe mention they have to get picked up by 4pm or they'll be stuck walking to the nearest gate! I gave them a second chance: check engine light comes on in older Accord. They charge $60 for diagnostics to tell me my catalytic converter is bad: understandable on an older car. They then quote me the ridiculous price of $1500 to replace a simple catalytic converter while assuring me the O2 sensors in exhaust are fine. Took my car to Clearview Car Care on Market Street who replaced cat for under half what Shockley quoted me: with a 1 year warranty! My experiences with Honda dealers has always been good in the past: this one appears to be the exception. I am not taking my car here again! read more

Im sorry but I do not understand all the raving reviews. I was tricked manipulated and deceived with offers of incentives and rebates( keep in mind my sales man knew the vehicle I was interested before I came in) when there he said none of those deals applied to the vehicle I was interested in...The finance manager seemed like she just us even before my app...It was like 5 degrees outside so we had heavy jackets and tough looking boots..We dressed nice casual but not profressiinal....Well she came back with an offer of 50 percent down on a used vehicle we were not amused and left and went ovet to kia it use to be bill baisley but is no darcar kia...I put 900 down and got a 2000 dollar rebate which they applied towards the down payment....I got a brand new 2019 kia soul fresh off the truck and was given options on what vehicle I wanted and what color I wanted...I was treated with respect instead of like a bother...Im so thankful to Shockley Honda for making me go to Kia:) read more

We recently purchased a new Civic. We were told that it included one year of free Sirius radio during the negotiation with the sales rep, Thomas Barker. We closed the deal, drove home and tried to activate the service. when we could not, we called the dealership and spoke to Thomas, who denied that he said that. We reported it to one of the co-owners, who has failed to respond to the email. At this point, they are acting like we don't exist. Two and a half weeks later, we are still waiting on the title and documents to register the car. This is long over due! I bought my SUV from Shockley in June/2019. I want start by saying JENNIFER SMITH in finance is AMAZING...... Very very experienced and kind hearted. My 1 year old also seemed to be very fond of her as well :) If it wasn't for Jennifer my wife and I would have purchased else where. Don't get me wrong all the staff I came in contact with seemed pleasant and was willing to help if needed. Bill, my salesman was very cool and down to earth. However, JENNIFER went well above and beyond her job to make sure my purchase was handled correctly, my vehicle was covered and it was as close as possible to my budget. Came in for an airbag recall. Left with a cracked door panel, a scratched steering wheel and a bent license plate. The airbag was replaced and the service rep was polite, so I'm giving 2 stars rather than 0. Our 2011 Honda Odyssey broke down in Frederick and we ended up having it towed to Shockley. They did a diagnostic test which they charged over $100 for and said they fixed it. About five days later the same problem came back and once again we are stranded. This is not the first time they weren't able to fix an issue with one of our Hondas. Another time they couldn't tell me why my Honda Accord was vibrating so I took it to another Honda dealership which found out that the wheel was loose. It's not good when a car dealership doesn't know when a wheel is loose or not. We Will never go back again. read more

Even though this review is from an experience that happened a few years ago, I still think I should write it. It's about when I bought my 3rd Honda. (The silver one). I had been looking around for awhile comparing cars and dealerships when my aunt mentioned there was a Honda dealership in Frederick where she lived. I thought 'why not give it a try'. My aunt had gotten to the dealership a day before I got there and had them put a car 'on hold' for me. It was a cute little silver Civic sedan. I don't know if it's still true now, but my aunt only needed to put a refundable $500 on her credit card to hold the car until I arrived the next day. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Anyway, I took it for a test drive and it rode really smoothly. The buying process went very well. It took about 2-3 hours. I totally forget the salesman's name that we delt with, but he did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and I didn't feel pressured at all. He even let me use his own personal cell phone when I forgot mine to call State Farm. When we were finished with everything, and were walking out the door, the rest of the salespeople at the front desk all sincerely thanked us for our business. Good experience. read more

She voiced her concern and offered to come pick up my car at my home to bring it to the dealership to recheck the brakes. She told me that someone would call me the following day to schedule a pick up time. That was four days ago. No one ever called me back. read more

Buying experience just okay for a car dealership. Their job is to squeeze every dime out of you but it is YOUR job to pay a fair price. Service is a different story. My wife took her 2014 van in for an oil change and check up. They sent her home with a service log that stated we needed to change the air filter. So about a week later I get a new filter and when i go to replace it, i find the air filter housing in the engine compartment was left open by the honda service tech. I take out the old filter only to find a bunch of debris that i know some has entered the motor. So i vacuumed it out and replaced the filter. Called Shockley right away only to be put on hold for quite awhile and i ended up hanging up. A week or so later i received a survey from honda asking about my experience. You can assume what i told them. Well that was 3 weeks ago and i have heard nothing. Geezzzz. Even a restaurant would get back to you for a bad meal. I am worried about engine damage from that crap entering the engine. Hey shockley, how about getting me in there asap for an oil change to mitigate damage. Nope. Disappointed in honda, shockley and their people. A good work ethic for just one person that saw my survey response is all it would take and i would be buying that new crosstour or accord coupe for me. Honda has good products but it takes more than just selling cars. What happens when my honda van has engine damage in 1 or 5 years down the road. Honda does not want to deal with this. Don't send me anymore survey's honda. I am completing consumer reports survey next. Update---11/13.....received a call from the service mgr within 24 hours of this review. She stated that she thought I was notified by someone on her team and all was well. I believe that. She does have quality control in her shop and will bring my issue up with her staff. I believe that too. She apologized for the breaks in communication and did speak with her guys about long term damage on our van. It does appear that there will be no long term issues associated with the debris since we only drove the van for about a week. The purpose of this update is to close the loop on this issue and let you all know that Shockley did reach out to me and I accept the explanation. read more

I'm disappointed that I have to cross another car dealer off the list. (My last Honda dealership, for the second time, "forgot" to rotate my tires as paid, and then the service manager remarked to me, "What do you expect from a high school student?") Yesterday, my wife took in her car for an oil change and tire rotation. These two services ran an expensive $66. They then told her that the 35 month old battery needed replacement. I knew that the battery was still under warranty with AAA, so she declined. They gave her the diagnostics: the battery was rated for 550 CCA and tested at 436. The diagnostic read "Battery replacement is highly recommended." AAA came to my house today. They pointed out that their battery is rated at only 475 CCA (which is very clearly on the battery). They tested the battery, showing me the result: 495 CCA, so my battery was performing better than expected. AAA's other tests for the battery were fine. I'll give Shockley the benefit of the doubt and assume that the 550 CCA was an accidental data entry mistake. I won't assume they were trying to get more money from my wife. Either way, if she would have followed their advice, we would have been out $150. Edit: A year and a half later, that battery was still doing absolutely fine. Otherwise, we've only used Shockley a few times. Their staff has been pleasant and the place is clean and welcoming. read more

I have never written an online review before, but I felt strongly enough to write a review about Shockley's service department. I left Shockley after a routine maintenance check with an immediate "to do" list totaling over $1500. $1000 plus of which included all new brake pads and rotors that "definitely" needed to be replaced. I was confused since I had not been having any problems with my brakes. Months later I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. Apparently after many months the front pads were only then just barely ready to be replaced and the rotors looked great! So 150$ later I have to say thank you to the small town mechanic who was honest and didn't take advantage of a young female trying to maintain her car. This was only one of many experiences where I felt Shockley "up sold" me in the service department. Too many instances to write here! read more

I would have to say that this would not be the first place for buying a honda. We spent several months looking for an suv, bouncing from picking a honda or mitsubishi. As soon as we pulled in the lot, there was a sales man running out to hawk us as we browse the vehicles. I was interested in buying the AWD CRV, in baige/ white. At the time they didn't have the AWD available. I remember our sales man very well, short, red hair, pale guy. kept trying to lure me to buying one of the other models. I don't do well with pressure from a stranger, so I told him to give me some space. Salesman blew up in front of me, calling my wife and I A**holes as he stormed off. We eventually found a good SUV at the mitsubishi in hagerstown. I would Def advise people to go to Hendricks Honda in Germantown. They would at least give you the space nessessary for a purchase. read more

While this facility is spotlessly clean, plenty of cars are in stock, and the sales associates are knowledgeable and uber-friendly, be armed with some backbone and be willing to walk. If you get a dollars-off offer from your sales associate, GET IT IN WRITING, for a verbal offer may well disappear as you prepare to sign the papers. If it does, WALK AWAY. You may get a text or phone call later, reinstating that offer, but don't count on it. If you have settled on a car, ask for the final price IN WRITING, and be sure to ask if any price stickers have been removed that may surprise you with an additional cost at closing. And be prepared for a hard-sell of the extended warranty when you are ready to write the final check or sign loan papers. Why can't a new car-buying experience be honest, upfront, and easy without any pressure or surprises? read more

Save yourself some money and take you're car any place but this dump. I took my Honda civic in this place to get a regular maintenance done. I also had an airbag light on that I asked them to look into. After spending hundreds of dollars on the my service, they told me that I would need to spend another 100 bucks to check the airbag light situation. I told them that's crazy. With all of the recalls in the past few months they should do this for free. I asked to speak with a manager and they told me the same story. That my particular car was recalled but not in the same part of the year that my car was manufactured. It's amazing to me a dealership wouldn't check airbags lights for free for safety reasons. Hello there have been major lawsuits on car manufactures because of faulty airbags. Again do yourself a favor and take you're care to any other place in Frederick. read more

I pulled up to Shockley for the first time and was pleasantly surprised that the repair man coming out of the shop offered to show me to the Parts Department. Well I will not be going back to Shockley for parts or even to buy a new Honda when the time comes. I have had my Honda for 17 years and it has been so good to me. I talked to the Parts man and gave him the number of the small plastic part I needed. He found it in a jiffy on the computer system and blurted out $38 for it. Okay fine and dandy. I take the part to the cashier and the jerk raised the price for the part $10. When I told the cashier he told me it was $38 originally she goes back to talk to him. She comes out and the guy doesn't even have the decency to tell me why he raised the price. So I had to pay $48 plus tax. This is a very small part. I would have done better to order the part as I had looked online before I came there and that would have been cheaper even with the added shipping part. Don't go there for parts. We have bought 2 vans there and I have been pleased overall with the sales department. I've used the service department for the last 3+ years and again I've been mostly pleased. There have been a couple instances with service advisors that I didn't like but I've learned to request the ones that I do like. Cindy is my favorite service advisor. I've really enjoyed participating in Spa Day the 3rd Wednesday of every month-a nice little treat, plus I've won the raffle a couple times now which is a free car detail. And I've often taken advantage of free daily car washes. These days I walk into Shockley and I feel like I'm in a Cheers episode where everyone seems to know me and greet me like an old friend instead of pouncing and trying to sell me something which is how most car dealerships are. Joan Brown (mother) I brought a used 2016 Colorado Chevrolet from Shockley Honda dealership Frederick MD January 15, 2020. On February 24, 2020 eight days after the of warranty end. The display for the radio and other icons went blank. The camera did not display either. I call the dealership and ask to speak to the used car manager. A gentleman named Dante and I spoke about the warranty of the truck. The conversation went like this, Dante said we check used cars from bumper to bumper and the truck is 44 days out of warranty. We do not check the dashboard. A car is like a phone after six months the phone can break. Now, how can you compare a 24K truck with a phone? Then, he commented that the truck could be under Chevrolet warranty because it has low mileage. I should call the Chevrolet dealership to see if they have a recall. I told Dante trucks and cars have a warranty for years and mileages. The truck is 2016. He will hear from me if this truck is not fixed. Dante asked me if I am threatening him. I replied it's a promise not a threat, of course, he considered my promise as a threat. He insulted my intelligent by asking me aren't you related to the salesperson that sold me the truck. I did not receive any negotiation and discount. Therefore, I brought the truck sticker price. During the signing of the truck papers, the finance person tried to convince me to take a loan from the dealer by dropping the interest rate several times. The truck is out of warranty over the years. What I took away from this conversation was Dante solution was to get me off the phone by telling me to call Chevrolet. Even when I express my knowledge of car warranties. This experience thought me Shockley Honda dealership hires employee that failed Math and English 101 (I teach for Montgomery County Public School), women customers are stupid and the dealership is shady. read more

I called them today about having my car looked at after visiting jiffy lube. Jiffy lube told me I needed to replace my front pads, rotors and 1 caliber. My car only has 24k miles on it and I could barely drive it anywheres. After calling Honda service because this should be covered by warranty, they wouldn't take a look today and the earliest would be Monday and then made a comment about if they had the parts in stock. Even though the caliber is bad they also refuse to cover the pads and rotor since they aren't under warranty even though it's the caliber the ruined my pads and rotors. How can they not have a Honda part there? I went back to jiffy lube and they had the part and are ready to install. read more
