I had the very good fortune this week of having seat covers put on my 2024 Ford Bronco Heritage. Steve, the manager and June the owner assured me they would take good care of my Bronco. So I dropped my car off the day before the installation date. While I was waiting for my friend to pick me up, immediately, they took my car & started working on it. As grantee, they will get it done before closing tomorrow. The next day (pick up day), I came a little early than usual, they were just putting the last door trim on the car. They took extra care on putting back the door panels together. Not only they took extra care, they literally stay after closing (5pm) for me, just to get it accomplished. Recently I had the very good Fortune of finding the Adler and Mendel car upholstery company in Rockville Maryland. A friend of mine sent me here after a conversation I had with him about wanting to redo the interior of my new 2024 two-door Bronco Heritage with new leather seats. he had been to the nearest previously, and was very pleased with their workmanship. I ordered my leather seats from the Katzkin leather seat company in California. The finished product was sent to Adler and Mandel who spent the day reconfiguring my new Bronco with a new leather interior. To my surprise , the work done was fantastic and frankly better than factory. The craftsmanship far exceeded my expectations. What I paid for the product was very reasonable for the end product that I received. Steve, the manager and June, the owner and all others who work at Adler and Mendel did exactly what I was hoping for and then some. My top in the Porsche was leaking so I brought it in to Adler & Mandel, we decided to go with a new top. We discussed colors and eventually came to a decision. It now looks great, so much better than before and most important doesn't leak! Top doesn't fully close now but Steve mentioned that that the new material has to stretch and it will take 2-3 days, they promised 2 years warranty through them and additional 2 more years through the manufacturer of the top. So if there's anything wrong with it or if it still won't close in few days I'll bring it in and they promised to take care of it without any extra charge. I had my Katzkin leather interior installed here. They were very flexible with my initial need to change my appointment and were very communicative during the install. They had a very quick turn around and nothing in my car was damaged in the process. I really don't have anything negative to say because my car looks beautiful! I needed a head liner for my '88 Caddy, as the old one was pretty much hanging down onto my head while I was driving. I took Big Red into Adler Mandel after calling ahead, and they gave me an estimate for the new headliner, and showed me a roll of the new material. Darned if they didn't have the thing ready the next day. The quality is superb, with a perfect color match. All of the hand grips were re-installed neatly, the inside lights line up perfectly, and the interior now looks great. I am totally impressed. read more

Car was returned with parts broken during the service of the vehicle (They attempted to mask the broken part with glue that failed before I got the car home) and the car was missing obvious parts that were 100% on the car when dropped off. IF I could give this shop negative stars, I would. This goes down as THE worst service-related experience, ever. Do not take your car to this shop!! They are incompetent, they are arrogant, they are lazy, and they are obviously very tired of their jobs. I dropped off my car at this shop to have a new convertible top installed. The existing top was getting old, no leaks but it was time for a new top before it got worse. The first top Adler and Mandel installed was an AutoTop convertible top, but it was defective and had unsightly wrinkles in some locations from poor installation. There was a leak in a rear seam and one at the drivers door where it meets the windshield. Adler and Mandel blamed the rear leak on condensation, which is ridiculous as any convertible owner knows. Never, in the decade I have owned this car have I had a leak due to condensation.. The front leak was due to improper alignment but they blamed it on the rubber. Their solution to the leaky top? They wanted to patch it, but I declined and asked to have it replaced with a non-defective product. To Adler and Mandel's credit they replaced the top, but with one of low quality. As a customer I should not have to pay they price for defective materials. They should do whatever it takes to make things right, not pass the loss onto the customer. The second top leaked as well, due to improper installation. It leaked in two locations, so I took it back once again. There was also an annoying rattle coming from the rear deck. They made nothing but excuses about why there was water dripping on my seats and filling up my trunk with water. The shop foreman blamed suspension components for the noise I was hearing coming from the rear deck. I keep the car in top shape, and knew he was full of it. I had to provide some of the new parts for the replacement top which cost me an additional $100+. These are parts they should have included in their initial installation, but they were cheap, instead they cut corners. I requested I watch the installation of the second top, and to my horror, I watched the shop foreman find the source of the rattle I had been hearing for weeks. It was a large wrench they had left behind from the first installation. During the second installation they also chipped the paint on the trunk. "Incompetent" is more than respectful and gracious to describe these cats. I could go on and on, but really, all that matters is that I make one thing crystal clear: If you need a new convertible top or upholstery work done, DO NOT take your vehicle to Adler and Mandel. You may hear good things about Adler & Mandel. I did, and that is why I trusted them. Unfortunately, their business ethics and performance is a total disaster. This business is surviving on past, not current performance. Perhaps many years ago they were a reputable shop. Unfortunately, those days are over folks, now they are a horror show. I had to install a plastic trash bag as a liner to temporarily contain the water and keep my trunk from flooding because Adler and Mandel was incapable and unwilling to correct the problem. It was a nightmarish experience. I have since replaced the top at a shop in Virginia. I paid less than I paid with Adler and Mandel, got a better quality top than Adler & Mandel ever offered. It was installed without a hitch, no leaks or rattles of any kind, and I could not be happier. When you see excuses on A&M reviews as you see on half of their reviews you know something is wrong. Don't make the mistake I made. Oh, and by the way, the current star rating for this business is indeed accurate, and currently trending down. Ignore the reply by the business manager telling readers that positive reviews are posted elsewhere - he's trying to con you. So I don't know what these other low reviews are about because my family has used Adler & Mandel for a number of items over the years and have had nothing but great service from the place. We used to have a Saab convertible about 8 years ago that needed a new convertible roof after the original was crushed by an automatic car wash (yeah, while we were in it). They gave us a great price and replaced the top under our insurance coverage without any issues as to the mechanical or physical aspects of the job. Last year, my Audi S4 convertible top started separating from the rear window glass (of course right after the factory warrantee had ended). Brought it to Adler & Mandel as my first choice and the whole roof was replaced for under $2k, which for an Audi (any Audi) is an amazing deal. Just yesterday, I brought the Audi back in for convertible roof work because it was failing to open. I had an incident toward the end of the season last year where the roof mechanism failed to close properly and I had to manually close the roof using the provided tool from Audi. Apparently, said manual tool also can cause the roof storage latch mechanism to slip its gears. Adler & Mandel diagnosed and fixed the issue for less than $300 and the roof works as good as ever now. I get that people are finicky about car repair places, but really a bunch of these reviews are a bit over the top if you ask me. I would definitely recommend this place for convertible roof work if you are looking for somewhere outside of your expensive dealer. read more

I just had Adler & Mandel replace the top on my Mini Cooper S convertible. The top mechanism on these cars is extremely complex with a combination sunroof and convertible. I am a total do it myself mechanic but was happy to have Larry and his guys replace my top. Larry is extremely knowledgeable and went the extra mile to work through getting it right. The top is high quality, looks better than OEM and the installation is excellent. I will be back for some leather work in the near future. if you have a Mini Convertible this is definitely the place. Before you bring your car here check the reviews and put value into them because they are here for a reason and that is to protect you. I didn't and almost suffered the consequences. My story is short and to the point. I went to this company to have katzskin leather installed in my 2015 Camaro. After a couple of delays I started investigating and found that A&M were getting ready to install a different kit of questionable quality. I caught them in a lie telling me that they were going to install Katzskins, but I had already called Katzskins in California and found out that no Camaro kit had been shipped out of their factory since last March. I confronted A&M and asked to get my deposit back and to re-install the factory cloth and they complied. The crazy thing is that I told them that I had read the reviews here and that I was a bit skeptical about moving forward with them because of the reviews. I stressed that the job needs to be perfect and they (Steve) reassured me that everything would be perfect. I really don't understand why people do business this way! read more

Beware. This place is downright awful. They replaced my convertible top but in the process fried the wiring for my power windows. Then they gave me the car back & said although they put a new top on, it does not work. WHAT!? Um aren't they supposed to fix that? Then they told me the top wouldn't function because of a bad hydraulic line (of course not included in the cost of the entire top replacement) so I had them replace it & guess what? The top STILL didn't work even they told me it would. The people at the front, Steve and June, seem pretty nice but as far as the work done this place is a nightmare. I've asked several times for a manager or owner & they will never let me speak to him or return my calls. I've informed my insurance company because Adler Mandel accepted their payment & not only didn't complete the job but did other damage in the process. Not only is that insurance fraud it's completely terrible business. Dishonest, lying crooks is what they are. I got everything fixed at IM Autohaus in Falls Church VA & gave them a stellar review on Google reviews (they're not listed on here yet). Well there is an elastic strap on each side of the top on the interior that just hang down after the job as well. It was not like that before & is very unsightly. I wish I never took my car to Adler Mandel. They also do not respect your time. The first time my car was there for the replacement it was there for about 3 weeks. Then for the hydraulic line replacement, which looking back I don't think needed to be done, my car was there for 4 days. I had an appointment 1st thing in the morning. I bought a Ford Explorer off lease from a dealership in Rockville. They had a sunroof installed for me (by Adler & Mandel) and i was assured it would look like a factory job...which it did. And it looked and performed great for several years.. Then, it suddenly decided to stop closing completely. That's a real problem for a sunroof. So i call Adler & Mandel and i am told their 'Limited Lifetime Warranty' is invalid because i didn't bring in the vehicle for service every two years. Who would have a vehicle serviced every two years....just for the sunroof!?!? But i have no problem paying for good service on anything. But they then tell me they want $90 just to do an estimate. Ugh. Okay. After it's in their shop they inform me this 'camslide' mechanism was broken and had to be replaced, not repaired. The issue was with the unit going into a vent position. I pushed for another solution and they offered to reassemble the unit so it would only open and not vent. Good solution. The problem is they wanted $360 to do this and here's the killer....they HAD to do it as the sunroof was disassembled and had to be put back together for me to even drive it home. Keep in mind, i took this in for an estimate. Never was i told the estimate would cost me $360 instead of $90...until it was too late. So I got it back, partially working and $360 lighter. That was a year and half ago. The reason for this review now is because the sunroof has broken again and in order to keep the car somewhat dry i've had to resort to jamming two wood wedges in it to force it completely closed. It works for the most part. But yesterday i ended up with a wet drivers seat from melting snow. So this vehicle is almost undriveable...not due to a bad engine or transmission....or a ton of miles....or some electrical gremlins....but because of a leaky sunroof ...courtesy of Adler and Mandel. And no, i have not called them...what's the point?!? So they can get more money from me to 'repair' something that will break again? read more

SHADY!!!!!!!! Do NOT take your car here. First, the woman who works the desk - I think related to the owner in some way, is SO rude and completely nasty to deal with. Clearly, she hates her life. Second, when we went to pick up our car, it was GONE! Yes, gone! They called to tell us it was ready, we came by to get it two days later (we told them we couldn't get it that day and they were actually expecting us on Monday. We came to get the car on Friday) and when we walked in, the woman just said "It's not here". She wasn't apologetic. She wasn't embarrassed. She didn't offer a solution. Nothing. The car was just gone. Confused, we left and went straight to the police to file an "unauthorized use of a motor vehicle" claim. They told the police someone took it "by accident". REALLY? What does that say about your business if you can't keep track of your cars?!?!?!?! That is like running a daycare and someone else takes off with your kid! Either someone was going to borrow our car for their own personal use for the weekend (since they weren't expecting us until Monday) or they were planning on using it in some illegal way (rob a bank? Transport illegal narcotics over the state line?) Either way, shady, shady, shady. They should be ashamed of themselves (but really, the despicable woman behind the desk blamed us...classy!) So, we finally go back and pay $900 CASH (???) to get the car back from them (it apparently "reappeared" 10 minutes after we left...). Top looks good, but seems like a shady practice to me. Company does fabulous repair work (did leather repair work for a family member). Took my car to them for a similar repair. Was told it wasn't leather, rather needed a vinyl "fill" repair. They gave me the name of a good company and an idea of what that company should charge me. Most of the repair work they do is from car dealers, so if you need this type of work done, go to them directly...avoid dealer mark-up! Honest, friendly, capable...5 stars ...! read more

Horrible Experience - Stay Away! Larry Mandel talked me into an repair that was unnecessary and did not solve my leaky sunroof problem. Once that was completed he told me I now needed a whole new sunroof and that would be an additional $500. I was stunned and began questioning him, he quickly became defensive and angry, but I continued asking questions. After quite some time he blurted out that the whole thing could have been done for free under warranty, that he had done hundreds of these warranty replacements in the past! He then said he didn't do that warranty work anymore because he had a "falling out" with Webasto. I called the Webasto rep, and he said that was news to him - Adler Mandel is still very much one of their approved vendors! I began to wonder about Larry Mandels motive? He was either inconceivably incompetent or something else must be at play. I asked the Webasto rep if they check with consumers to see, if after a warranty claim has been made by a vendor, if they also paid the vender also. They do not! So, I have to suspect the motive for all the lying and deception was greed, I think he would have charged me ($868) and then charged them ($500) for the warranty work. Once I realized I was dealing with an angry liar who was intent on ripping me off. I picked up my car, paid them the $368 (which I regret) and I took it around the corner to Automotive Essentials and had a fantastic experience. They quickly fixed it for FREE, under warranty!!! I showed them the used drain tubes that Mandel had removed and replaced, and they said they didn't show any signs of problems. They confirmed this was not my problem at all, AND that $368 to replace two drain tubes was very excessive. The Webasto rep said $368 to replace the tubes was bordering on "gouging". To add insult to injury, I learned that even if the tubes had needed replacing, Automotive Essential would have done that too under warranty, with no charge. Then I called Mr Mandel to discuss my dissatisfaction with his work and ask for a refund. He quickly became irate and wouldn't let me talk at all. He was aggressive, hostile, rude and disrespectful. He yelled and screamed at me and said I could "sue him If I want, but he wouldn't refund a dime". I said calmly "I have listened to you, now will you at least listen to me - he said NO and hung up". I dropped of the soft top for my Lotus Elise, to get repaired from a dry-rotting liner. They replaced the liner with black suede, and had it ready for me three hours later, when it was promised for early the next week. Went in today with my limo to get a window sealed that was leaking. They did a excellent job in 30 min for a great price. Other shops turned me away and they had no problem getting the job done. they also offered me a great deal on a new ragtop. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Classic bait and switch auto repair / upholstery shop. Make sure you get a detailed quote in writing. They will give you a less than detailed quote and then once your car is in the shop and the interior is half apart, they come back to you and say, oops, we need to charge you more because we didn't realize that we had to do this or that. Update responding to Mark's comment: The sun roof was never repaired at no cost. The receptionist came out to the car and pushed the buttons and got the roof closed, centimeter by centimeter. Upon seeing how poorly the roof functioned, it would have been better to fix it properly at that time. I have no idea how a car owner is supposed to "maintain" a sunroof properly. All we ever did was open or close it -- I'm at a loss for what one does to maintain the roof beyond this. It's quite telling that Mark tries to blame the customer for the mechanism breaking. I asked that AM take a quick look at the roof to see if there was an easy fix. Given our experience with the DVD player, I wasn't very encouraged by AM's problem solving abilities and didn't want to pay $90 simply to be told it can't be fixed or would cost an exorbitant amount. Just to reiterate, at no point did it feel like AM was genuinely trying to help solve the issues with the installments they made. Mark seems to think being in business a long time gives you license to treat customers poorly. read more

I recently took my car to Adler & Mandel to get 3 sections of upholstery replaced: this was tan colored leather. They came highly recommended from my auto repair shop. The location was easy to find, I was helped immediately-given a quote; and the process was explained from drop off to pick up. I scheduled my appointment, given the estimated number of days for the work to be completed (3 days) and I was on my way. During the first couple of days I received a call that there was a 4th area of my car that the upholstery could be replaced. As the technician was already working in that specific area, it would save me money for them to replace it at that time. This was also great for me in that it added no additional time for my car being in the shop. I appreciated them taking the extra step to offer this customer service. My car is beautiful and i am very impressed with the results. You will not be disappointed with their services and I give them the highest kudos. read more

I read the review from the person who "lost their car". My experience was much better. I have a 1965 VW Karmann Ghia that I took to a restoration expert that completly botched up the convertable top. It would not go down all the way, they told me thats's as good as it gets. After a month of research, I realized certain things weren't done thats unique to the car. No one I called in the area knew much about the car. I called Adler thinking they only worked on modern cars and to my surprise they gave me a list on the phone of what was wrong. The top is now working properly and they took extra time not destroying the new top I already paid for, I just couldn't afford to sink more money into a new one. They were even nice enough to call me periodically to give me updates since they knew I was so worried and frustrated about the previous job. I own a 1996 BMW Z3 that I have babied since buying it over 19 years ago. When I finally needed a new top for it, I inquired at the garage at which I have it serviced and the mechanic enthusiastically recommended Adler and Mandel, as did others that I asked. After saving up for a year or so (in the meanwhile, driving only on sunny, rain-free days), I had the top replaced this week. Notwithstanding the withering reviews of the place on this site, my experience could not have been better. They were very professional, gave me a competitive price quote, got the top in within a day, and did a great job installing it in a day, as promised. In the process, they alerted me to a stray nail that an overeager car stereo installer had placed from the trunk that protruded into the cabin sill area and would have scored my otherwise pristine new plastic rear window. I can't speak to the validity of the concerns voiced by the other reviewers here, but my experience couldn't have been better. Don't be dissuaded from doing business with this firm. In a city in which getting anything approaching actual customer service is often an ordeal, Adler and Mandel are the real deal. read more
