Not sure this review would matter as I came upon this place while they were having their closing sale. Adult shoes at $40. Labels that would retail up and above $150+ were deeply discounted. The selection of some good quality shoes and sneakers is ok...customer service is awful! They are rude and don't seem to know a thing about fitting shoes. I think it's husband and wife. This was my second visit, and although I made a purchase the first time, my experience with them was the same. No help whatsoever except bringing boxes out from the back. I was reluctant due to the fit of a pair of $150 sneakers, loose in the heel, so I asked about return policy and was told 7 days. After I purchased, I was given a pad to try at home for the inside of the heel - why not when I was in the story???? After wearing them briefly at home, I decided it wasn't worth blisters, so when I returned to the store the next morning as I walked in, she said.."I thought so". Not hi, sorry to see they didn't work out - after the refund was processed, she said "there you go" as she put the receipt on the counter - not hope to see you again or something to that effect. I've been told by neighbors there is an employee who is nice, but that wasn't my luck. I won't be returning. read more

I was in the area for work and went here to purchase a pair of sneakers. I specifically asked if they were returnable and all I got was a curt "Yes". After trying on at home and finding them a little tight, I went to return them a couple of weeks later when I was in town again for work and was informed of a 7 day return policy. When I said I had not been told this, I was told "Oh well, too bad." I am now stuck with a $140 gift card to a store I never want to set foot in again. Look, here's my deal with buying locally...no one can compete with Walmart or Amazon and these local store owners will give you service that you aren't going to get online or in big box stores. I know I can get things cheaper online, I also know I can buy a bunch of cheap Chinese made sh!t too, but I try not to whenever possible. I stopped into the Shoe & Sneaker Barn this morning...really only because the store we were going to wasn't open yet. I had just said to my wife yesterday that I needed a new pair of Teva's for this summer as my old ones were finally starting to go. We walked in and were greeted by the owner and another employee with a BIG 'Good Morning' and a couple of smiles. I walked up to the men's sandals, picked out two pairs of Teva's to try on and the owner was back in less than a minute. I'm sure I'll be the easiest sale of the weekend as I tried them on and was in and out of the store in about 5 minutes with a nice new pair of Teva's (only my third pair since I bought my first one in 1992 when I was in college-they last forever). Yeah, probably could have gotten them cheaper in Dick's or online, but I choose to support our local economy when I can...as long as I'm not being taken advantage of by a local owner. read more

Horrible customer service. I bought a pair of sneakers, but afterwards decided I didn't like them. I went in two days after the purchase (well within the seven day return policy) to return or exchange them. The man at the counter was awful. He told me that I was wrong to return them, that I was being ridiculous. He mocked me to my face. Then he told me to take my money, get out, and not come back. This is an "old fashioned" shoe store in that they don't just hand you the box of shoes and walk away...they will assist you and make sure the shoes fit properly (especially important for kids shoes) and they can make suggestions if you have any specific issues with your feet. They carry high quality brands - I shop here a few times a year and the shoes I've purchased have all worn well and lasted. I've seen some reviews that say you can get some of their shoes cheaper on Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon is driving quality shops like this out of business. I'm ok paying a little more to support a local business. They have sales a couple times a year too. read more

As someone who goes out of their way to shop local, it pains me to have to give this place a bad review. High quality shoe selection that's well displayed. But the store employees? Yikes, hit & miss. Was there June 2021. Tried on a floor model of a $130 sandal. Happened to be my size. I told the sales girl I'd buy the shoe. She goes to the back and brings me the clean mate to the dirty floor sample. Uh, no, I'd like a new PAIR, please. She replied "the floor sample was good enough". Was the only pair in my size? She didn't answer, and refused to go back and check the stock. Instead she kept trying to convince me that the scuff marks on the floor shoe weren't really that bad. Also, the footbed of the floor model was a bit discolored from being tried on by other people. That too she didn't care about. WTF. Of course they lost that sale! Beware if you go. Don't accept 2nd best, especially if you're paying full price. read more

For someone who has a big sign across his door he doesn't enforce masks. Not only does he not enforce masks the owner and I had an altercation when confronted about wearing a mask. He was in a coffee shop hitting on the teenage girls and when I tried to cover my face so he wouldn't breathe near me (i'm at super high risk, i was double masked) laughed and he and began to start a scene. I said "we are in a pandemic" and he laughed and told me no (i have lost people close in my life to covid). Then he proceeded to throw his unused masked in the garbage and told me to call gov murphy. I'm a young looking female (18) and the fact that an owner screamed at me is disgusting. I also tried to by shoes from here but they were always small or dirty. I purchased a pair of boots from this store and when I got home I realized the employee had given me the wrong pair. When I went to bring them back I was informed they had a 7 day return policy and I was a few days past. I asked for an exception since it was their fault. In fact, I was dealing with the same girl who gave me the wrong boots. She was extremely rude and dismissive. I would expect much more respect and accommodation. I had just left the Podiatrist for Plantar Fasciitis, it was recommended that I find a new shoe with certain specs ASAP or my condition would not improve. I have always done my best check out our locally owned businesses prior to going to one of the many corporate giants, since many have lost their way in the area of service. In this case I decided to keep it local and visited the Sneaker barn. I was in so much pain walking in the door and felt no shoe would give me relief; Kim knew exactly what shoe was the best for my condition and I took her advice and walked out almost pain free. I had a good experience here. I brought my daughter for back-to-school shoes. Even though there were a few other people in the store we were helped right away and the employee was helpful and very nice. We tried on several pairs in several sizes and the girl was very patient with us. A few weeks after purchase there was an issue with one of my daughters shoes. I brought them back to the store for some assistance with them and the manager was more than helpful. I will definitely go back. Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said before on Yelp. I am from out of town and needed to buy a pair of running shoes. The salesman brought out 4 pairs of shoes, which I tried on for about 10 minutes tops. Since I was in a rush, I decided to purchase the shoes I had experience with before and paid $160. Well, once I left the store and looked up what the shoes cost online, I realized they were overpriced by $50. If they were within $20, I would have chalked it up to supporting local. So I decided to return the shoes knowing the price difference. When I arrived, I presented the shoes and told them I was going to purchase them elsewhere and the salesman, who was an older tall gentleman, didn't say one word. I said that I appreciated his time and thanked him and literally not one word. He just rang up the exchange and literally flinched the return receipt across the counter. This place needs to take a class on how to leverage emotional intelligence. Think about it. While I didn't buy the shoes, if I work local and share my story with others, what impact will that have on them wanting to walk through your doors? I realize how he may have been disappointed in losing the sale but come on, really! My kids and I just walked out of there for the last time. I'd purchased Hunter boots for my daughter earlier this years. They're looking dingy so we wanted to see if they sold the cleaner. They do not and the bratty girl, whose game of candy crush we'd interrupted, could not have been a bigger snot & less helpful. Newsflash kid -- it's your job to be pleasant and helpful. Went their for the annual sidewalk sale and bought 3 pairs of sneakers two for kids one for me! Anyway when we got up to pay i handed them a gift card and they told me they dont take gift cards for sidewalk sale!! they said the machine takes too long to process a gift card !! Wierd! how could you deny gift cards !! finally after asking to speak with the manager the owner just Raises his hand up and said fine take it!! meanwhile the blond girl was just rolling her eyes being rude she was the cashier!! after I paid with my gift card and pay the difference in cash over hundred dollars, I asked for a bag, they said they don't give out bags , what kind of store makes up these stupid rules , no bags can't take gift cards, anyway they were so rude horrible customer service and if you want to get abused verbally, speak with owner he does a great job being abusive, The staffed seemed hot and stressed and over worked, if it's too stressful to do a sale like that which allows you to become a crazy animal and talk like that to customers then maybe you should reconsider not having a sale like that, cursing and screaming in front of several children is not the way to be ever, common sense which I'm sure this monster did not have!! read more

Their newly expanded store is warm and inviting. The service I have received since their expansion, has been excellent, and their knowledge of their merchandise is thorough. They have an excellent selection for kids of all ages, not just the little ones. I was happy to have this store available when we outgrew Stride Rite. They have great athletic options for the teens, and they know what the trends are. There are literally options for every member of my family. Yes their prices are higher than you can find online, but they do have excellent promotions, just follow them on facebook. read more

There were two employees present and I asked them if they had a specific pair of Nikes sneakers and they told me it wasn't being made anymore and gave me a different Nike to try on and said it was "the new ones." In the days of Shop Locally, this Denville store is doing everything possible to push customers to purchase online (cheaper, too!). My 85-year-old Mother had been a repeat customer at this establishment. This latest incidence will be her last (her words). From being told to take home and try a pair of sneakers out to not allowing her to return them when they didn't fit nor provide the stability in a shoe she needed. the confusion came from the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. One salesperson (owner's son?) told her to take them home and then a woman told her she couldn't return them or an extra pair they ordered for her (in a wrong size) which she hadn't even picked up yet. There is more to this transaction and is far more complicated than it needed to be (5 trips and a letter), but the end result is the absolute rude behavior of the staff and the owner towards a customer. Seems since the son took over, his heart is not in the family business and makes no bones about the lack of customer service you will receive from Mgmt down to the Sales level. Shame on you! Unfortunately, I would like to say that I will shop at the Chester Shoe and Sneaker Barn again but I will not. The bold add on the website for shoe trade in Wed-Sunday is false advertising. I was disappointed to learn that the promotion was no longer running although the manager explained he hasn't gotten around to removing the banner from the website. I went ahead with my purchase any way believeing that I must have misread the add. Now that I have gone back to read the add again I see that it is a ploy to bring in customers. No dates mentioned anywhere. Buyer beware. read more
