Before bringing my boots in, I called ahead and asked specifically whether the heel could be shortened and whether a broken zipper could be repaired. The owner told me yes with confidence and expressed no hesitation. These boots were handmade, brand new, and cost US $458 (Bird of Flight Shoes - Ojai boot). Had there been any uncertainty, I would never have brought them in. When I picked them up and wore them for the first time, it was immediately obvious that one heel was significantly shorter than the other, causing discomfort and hip pain. When I returned to the shop, I was extremely calm, kind, and gracious, despite receiving no apology. I accepted that mistakes can happen and trusted that the issue would be corrected. However, after the second pickup, the situation deteriorated significantly. Not only were the boots even more uneven than before, but I also noticed significant scuffing consistent with handling during repair. When I raised this, I was told the scuffing was from me wearing them, which is not accurate -- I have photos taken immediately before drop-off that show no such damage. What was most disturbing was how the owner's behavior escalated once other customers entered the shop. His tone changed dramatically -- he began raising his voice, shouting, and denying previous statements. He encouraged other older male customers to involve themselves in the interaction, and I was spoken over and dismissed while trying to address damage to my property. I felt intimidated, ganged up on, and pressured to stop speaking. This was an extremely distressing and abusive-feeling interaction, not just a poor service experience. The boots are now effectively ruined, and while a refund was eventually offered (after initially offering only $20), that does not undo the damage -- nor does it excuse how I was treated. This review is a serious warning. Not only were valuable boots damaged, but when I calmly raised legitimate concerns, the situation escalated into an intimidating and hostile encounter. I would strongly caution others against bringing valuable items here, especially if you expect respectful or professional treatment when something goes wrong.

Really wish I read these reviews before taking my luxury boots here! I am truly appalled that this…read moreplace is still in business. I came here out of convenience and will never be back. Do not come here. I dropped off the boots and asked to see what type of bottoms they offered. Shop owner, who barely speaks a lick of English, seemed to laugh at me like I asked a dumb question - "well of course they'd be black". I was referring to the patterns of course! After communicating (with some difficulty) what I was seeking, he took a pen and drew 4 X's on the bottom of my shoes. I cringed a little because these were brand new but thought it was normal procedure for them. After all, these were the black bottoms of the shoes and nobody would see the marks anyway. Then it was time for me to pick up my boots. I did not have my ticket on me which admittedly was my fault, however I did have my payment receipt with the credit card number, date and time on it. Further, I felt that my phone number or a description of the shoes and size would suffice. I was willing to cooperate or provide whatever information they needed. They do not have a bell to get anyone's attention so I was left standing there for a few minutes before someone came to help me. As soon as I stated I had no ticket the staff (another man) got angry and told me I couldn't pick up my shoes. Fine. My mistake. Asked if there were alternatives as it was the end of a long work day for me and I did come by to pick my shoes up on the way home. He grunted "not my problem, you can call the police". Also told me to speak with the owner, i.e. return the next day. The man proceeded to tell me about the time the shop lost $500 because they apparently let someone pick up shoes without a ticket. It would be silly to follow his advice and call the police. I understand that as per their store policy I could not pick up without my ticket. That's entirely within reason. I am also sorry that the business went through such a loss in the past - but I will NOT tolerate rude behaviour. If the man alleged he had been here for 45 years, it scares me to think how many people (and evidently several according to other reviews) he has poorly treated in the past. When I returned the following day (today) I voiced my concern to the owner over how rude and disrespectful the staff was. Again, I struggled to understand the owner but I do know that he did not once apologize for my negative experience. He also referenced the $500 story but frankly, I said I was here to pick up my shoes and not argue further. I'm not entirely satisfied with the craftsmanship either, to be honest. My shoebox also managed to come back with a black scratch on the top and a few punctured holes as if they worked on top of it. It is my mistake for not doing my research before trusting this shop with my beautiful and expensive boots, but now I am writing this to warn others to stay away from this place. Truthfully I regret not coming right away to pick up the boots on the day they were ready for pick up. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

He completely wrecked the front of my shoe. It looks much worse than it did before. The front part has bits falling off of it and there are crusty clumps of glue all along the seams. It's a shame because we had come here several times before and they were alright. The quality of service and repair just diminished over time.
