If you are coming with less, you might be sitting with other people. 8 people was kind of hard to manage though, cause we def could not talk to people on the other side of the table. Unfortunately, but fortunately I guess, we came for a birthday party last week and had so much fun enjoying ourselves, the entertainment and the food that I don't have any pictures to show for it. I came back for the full experience. The table was just my family & I. You get the soup and salad appetizer. I took my wife here for Valentine's day a couple of years ago, The experience was awesome, we enjoyed the chef cooking the food right in front of us. They ask where you would like to sit and of course we said hibachi room. Just like the saying goes, when in Rome do what the Roman's do. So when at a hibachi place, you're there for the experience. Anyways, we were brought to get hibachi and given the menu while seated. It took awhile for the chef to get situated and cook for us, but once he did everything was good. They give you fried noodles that are sautéed in sauce for free. After that I believe your meal should come with salad with ginger sauce and clear soup. Both are really good. Believe me when they give you large portions so no need to order other things off the menu. I got the udon with spicy seafood. Yes, it was a bit spicy and I liked it. I also ordered this red cocktail and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. But if you really like cherry juice you should order it, if not don't bother. My husband is/was a hibachi virgin. He was on his way home from work and I suggested he pop his hibachi cherry and give it a try. It did not disappoint by any means. Let's put it this way, he's ready to go back and make this one of our go to's in Forest Hills. I grew up going to Hibachi. Benihana was kind of mainstay in South Florida for birthdays when you're a kid. Maybe it was an affluent Jewish thing, but we always went on the occasion, and it was so much fun, especially if you get a chef who's in the right mood and preforms for the dining audience at his table. On this night at Shogun, our chef was on fire (literally and figuratively). He played off our energy and did all the fun tricks that hibachi chef's like to do, such a flip the shrimp off the grill and into a guest's mouth (or at least try.) Lol. It was just the two of us seated at a table for 8 with others we did not know, which is half the fun of going to a hibachi restaurant. The service and the food were great. (And, FYI, we actually went to Benihana in Manhattan the other night for my birthday and to relive a moment of my childhood, and Shogun is as good, if not better than the one-time leader of this art.) I had the shrimp and lobster and Jayson had the Filet Mignon and shrimp. The meat literally melted in your mouth. I was a little nervous about it because I had dental work and needed soft foods that night, so I opted not to eat it. But Jayson gave me a bite of his steak and I was in heaven. It was perfectly cooked, and very tender. My shrimp and lobster were excellent. The food is big proportions. We ended up taking some home, which became a midnight treat. It was even good as leftovers and we don't normally eat leftovers. For his first hibachi experience, this was an excellent choice. The Filet Mignon and scallops I ordered was tasty but the medium rare steak could be a bit more tender. The lobster tail was very tender and juicy, much better than I expected. The shrimps were very good too. Stirred friend vegetables and noodles were delicious. Fried rice was a bit greasy, I won't order it again. Chocolate cakes and Cheese cake were also rated good. Over all we had a good time and enjoyed our meal. Total costs $289.57 including 17% tips added on automatically and tax. I really LOVE THIS PLACE. I've been here many times to say the least. Not only is the inside great but I've ordered delivery and everything is on point. My favorite has to be the side of egg fried rice with Teriyaki sauce! The peanut avocado rolls are the BOMB!! My personal favorite is when they put it in hand roll form instead of maki! The delivery always comes warm and the only downside is during the week they open at 3, so if you want to get early lunch you can't.... We have been to Shogun a few times but I haven't gotten around to writing a review until now. What can I say... Oh ya. RUN to them. They are just as good if not better than Benihanas. They have much more personal experience because it's a smaller place. They don't try to rush you in and out as fast as possible. The food is always amazing. And it won't break your wallet. This place was mediocre took my cousin from Croatia here and she was fascinated with the show they put on. As for the hibachi food it was mediocre. I have lived in the area for years now, and only visited this past Saturday. Commute is easy by train, but parking doesn't seem to be too difficult. Conveniently located by the 75th Avenue stop/F train, Shogun is a hidden treasure. The place is pretty small, but accommodating. There are 2 dining areas. The first, upon entering, has booths that seem to be the place to sit if you aren't looking for sushi, or anything else not involving hibachi. The 2nd room is where the action is. I have been to quite a few hibachi spots in my day. As far as flavor goes, this is definitely up there. The food was yummy! While it was probably the smallest Hibachi restaurant I have been to (and can feel a bit crowded) the restaurant was more than willing to help us fit all 9 members of our party on one table. That was certainly appreciated! Our little mishap occurred when shrimp was placed onto my husband's plate after 3 instances of stressing that he has a shell fish allergy. It was alarming, but I understand that mistakes happen. They made him a new plate in the kitchen. It wasn't ideal, as we were all able to finish our meals before he ever got his. We tried to wait, but he wanted us to go ahead and it took a lot longer than anticipated. As far as my order- I had a piña colada (excellent), mango margarita, and the chicken/filet mignon. We went to Shogun in New Years Eve for my sons bday. The waiter was very nice and attentive. The person who was making the hibachi wasn't all that entertaining. By the time he came to our table, there were already two other chefs out. They were engaging with their parties and amicable. Our chef was not. He was the last one out and the first one gone. Even after telling him it was my sons bday, no extra effort was made to be engaging. The food was ok. We ordered a Kani salad as an appetizer and it had more bread crumbs on the top than actual salad. We also ordered wings and calamari. The noodles were over cooked and the rice was just ok. We all sat at the habachi table, and the habachi man was doing a lot of tricks and he was throwing food into my nephew's mouth, which surprisingly my nephew caught the food twice (hooray ) .
