Immediately upon arriving the place seemed extremely poor and abandoned. When walking in I realized the floors were extremely sticky and everything felt gunky and gross. The table we sat at was sticky, our menus stuck and the seat itself wasn't clean. The server brought our drinks with the STRAWS OPEN AND IN OUR DRINKS!! VERY UNHYGENIC When asked for another straw the server looked super confused on why. Maybe don't place the straw in someone's drink?? The roll I got was VERY STALE and the inside what was supposed to be crab, ended up being very nasty and brown like tuna. Maybe the tuna was old.. not sure. Shogun was awesome until they destroyed their business model by not serving the buffet with hibachi anymore. Now it's just the left side which is good, but the hibachi buffet is why my family and friends went here. I have to go to the China star now for what we want. I ate at the Dyersburg, TN location. It was horrific. The floors were so sticky that my shoes stuck to the floor. The meal was so salty I couldn't eat it & the hostess/manager was rude. The waiter was wonderful & he had to argue with her so that she would take the salmon off my $128 bill. She did not do it nicely. That night our entire party had to buy Pepto Bismal because our stomachs were upset all night. Horrible experience. I'll never do it again. read more

Stopped in late one night since this place was near my hotel. Buffet was looking bad, most items were half empty and what was there had been there for a long time. It was dry and unappetizing. I tried a few things, some beef and broccoli and a few shrimp pieces. They have a Mongolian grill that is part of the buffet and that was pretty good. Saved the night cause I couldn't find much to eat on the buffet. I had the rice noodles with beef and a few other things, onions, mushrooms etc. was not bad. Great hibachi. My wife and I stopped while traveling. I had the filet and scallops and my wife had shrimp and scallops. We eat hibachi often and this ranks as one of the best. There was no flare in the preparation but it was extremely flavorful. Good sized portions that left us feeling full and satisfied. Will come again when traveling through. read more

The waiting staff is doing the best they can do is assume.. But the management/owner couldn't be any more incompetent and useless. It should be downright embarrassing to any business owner, and the owner of this restaurant deserves to be ashamed for the current state of it.. The staff needs help. When you're this short staffed, it's the owners responsibility to take care of their employees and step in when needed, or at the least limit the amount of customers that can be seated. The condition created by the owner and management is nothing short of abuse. I see that waiting staff is trying their best, but a complaint is warranted when a dinner experience takes over 2 hours after you are seated. I'm a big sushi fan but, thus far, I have only been able to sample the sushi that has been at the Chinese buffet portion of this restaurant. I have visited the restaurant a few times when visiting my family, but as my family isn't very adventurous, I haven't been able to explore the Japanese food. The next time I visit, I hope to find out if I can order off the sushi menu while my family digs into the buffet. The buffet had a lot of options and is fairly typical for a Chinese buffet except that it was a slightly larger buffet than most. I greatly appreciate the fact that they have a special section where I can put together my own stir-fry. I like lots of vegetables, garlic and spice in my stir-fry, so I usually am far happier doing this than picking through the options at the buffet. I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the hot and sour soup, which is unfortunate since this is my favorite soup at Chinese restaurants, but at least the buffet has enough options that I have the option of putting together a fairly healthy or a fairly unhealthy meal, depending on my desire at the time I go. The sushi I've sampled from the buffet has so far been high quality so I look forward to trying more in the future. read more

Really excellent sushi - I hesitate to say it - "especially for Dyersburg". The sushi is very good for any small town. I currently recommend the Mexican Roll and the Lobster King. I didn't really have anything bad. Prices are very reasonable. They were offering a 2-for-1 special on "basic" rolls. The big rolls were very large (like Sakura in Jackson). The descriptions of the rolls was a bit lacking (especially the "special rolls"), but again, nothing was a disappointment. Service was excellent on a Sunday afternoon. read more

My daughter wanted to give Shogun another chance, so we did. I am grossed out and still hungry to say the least. Mold in soup. Brown avocado on sushi. Noodles extremely dry. I respectfully expressed my concern of the mold in the soup and how I was completely nauseous from the sight of the food while stating my daughter and I did not eat but I would pay for the "wasted" food. (We "wasted" one slice of watermelon, 2 pieces of slightly bruised banana and a small portion of lo mein. I was told I would get a whopping 10% discount. I received a 6.23% discount on the meal; I do not believe I should have paid as I, nor my daughter, consumed any food. I would have gladly paid full price for the sweet tea my daughter ordered, yet never touched because we left. I suggest not to eat here unless you have poor eye sight and can not see the state of unsanitary condition, an iron stomach and are severely starving to the point that 0.5 miles is too far of a walk or drive. The owner or employee representing owner even stated the restaurant has had a mosquito problem and he already knew something was wrong with the soup. I understand mosquitos are a problem in every area of this geographical area, however that is not a mosquito. If something is known to be wrong it should be fixed not just allowed to be. You do sit with other customers around a grill if you're getting hibachi, which sometimes is a downer because you have to wait on another family/couple to arrive so they can fill the seats before you can order. Shogun hibachi is WONDERFUL! The meats are always cooked perfectly and the rice tastes incredible. Their sushi is average, kind of what you typically get at a store. The buffet isn't bad, but nothing beats hibachi. The miso soup is also very good! It does seem that each time I've been the waiter/waitress takes a while to come back to refill drinks and give you your ticket. read more

Surprised. I wasn't sure if this place was trying to be a Chinese or Japanese restaurant. It is located BEHIND the mall next to the Hampton Inn. They have a large buffet and yet have hibachi grills and sushi. I wasnt so sure about ordering sushi since the sushi chef looked about 20. However, it was very good. Of course no fresh fish here in rural TN but well put together and good. The sake was pretty bad though. I could see the hibachi tables and the cooks did a fine job with the few customers on a late Sun night. I may come back to try the buffet another night. read more

This was the first sushi place I went to after it offered dine in again and have made a few trips back. The sushi has been great each time I've been there and my brothers seem to enjoy it as well. The chicken and filet dinner is excellent. Wife enjoys the sushi and she is sushi aficionado. The dressing on the salad is as good as any Japanese I have had. The sushi area is where we prefer to eat is also the corridor to the hibachi which I do not like. read more

I have been coming to Shogun for many years and last visited the 11th of this month for my birthday. It's been about a year since my last visit. I only eat the hibachi and because it's so expensive I usually only get this kind of treat on my birthday or special occasion. Last visit the food is great but this time was a major let down. I got the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi. The onion soup tasted off so I switched to miso which also tasted off, salad was decent aside from the occasional brown pieces of lettuce I found in my bowl. My filet mignon was not actually filet mignon but new york strip and the portions were way to small. I paid an extra $4 for a cut of meat I did not receive. Worst of all was the rice. It was under cooked and over cooked at the same time. No clue how you guys managed to pull that off but you did. Crunchy, dry, and burnt would be the best way to describe it. I have always been under the impression that the reason hibachi is so expensive is because you're getting dinner and a show. Over the years the show has become a flop. Your chefs clang their cooking utinsils around a bit, light a fire, then get straight to cooking your crappy food. To top it off the waiter and chef were both told more than once that it was my birthday and at the end of the meal we got our bill and were set on our way with no cake or birthday song. Every time we go we are more disappointed .We hadn't been in a long time and just didn't want to drive to far next time we will go to Paragould or Jonesboro no more Shogun for us. We spent over $77 on the seafood lovers and our scallops were so small you couldn't hardly see them we only got 4pcs and 5pcs of shrimp very little vegetables. The sushi rolls were good. But I made my last trip to Shoguns. At least we didn't get the hateful cook this time. read more
