We were driving through Lincoln from Chicago on a road trip out west and got some take out after a long day on the road. They estimated 30 minutes to get the food ready and I ended up waiting an hour. However, it was worth every minute. We were impressed with the presentation of the take out packaging and the taste of the food is phenomenal. It bested most of the Japanese fare we've had in Chicago. Tried Shokunin for our first-year wedding anniversary. Attentive and great service, and wonderful authentic sushi. We had the bluefin tuna belly and it was fantastic - it can be a splurge (it's an expensive fish), but it is melt in your mouth worth it. Shokunin did a great job outfitting the former restaurant as a sushi place and it seemed very clean and classy inside though we opted to sit outside on the patio. My only suggestion for improvement would be to the drink menu. They do have a list of about 5 cocktails, would be great to see a few more or perhaps less typical/basic drinks. Again, though, the sushi is absolutely worth it. Priced comparably to other restaurants in the area, and the best tasting in my opinion. If you're craving sushi for dinner I highly recommend giving this place a go. I would really like to see it succeed! It's location (a bit further down in the Haymarket area) can be tricky, and the night we went out there were not many people in the restaurant, whilst the patio of the competitor sushi restaurant down the way was full. I think this sushi is much better. Come here instead and give it a try. read more

Wish there was a better set of appetizers, but that's not what we came for. Blue Fin tuna belly was our favorite. Also impressed with the monk fish. This might be my new favorite place for sushi. The raw oysters are big, juicy, and fresh. The sushi/sashimi platter was gorgeous and tasty. Service was pleasant and timely. I'm gluten intolerant and the servers were very accommodating, and they have gluten free soy sauce. read more

Nice atmosphere, great service, good happy hour specials. Sashimi is not present on the happy hour menu for some unknown reason. The price of sashimi on the regular menu starts at $14 for five pieces and goes up to double that which is quite expensive IMO so we passed on that. In comparison they have an excellent and large negi-hama hand roll on the happy hour menu for $4. Not sure about the reason for the discrepancy. Awesome hamachi-kama with a distinctive dipping sauce. In town for a swim meet and stopped in on a Saturday around noon for lunch. The service was wonderful with the manager and waiter both very attentive but not smothering. I had the donkatsu ramen and a spicy crab tempura roll. The ramen was very good and the pork cooked just right with a great flavor but not too much saltiness. My wife had a spicy crab roll and eel avocado roll. Both were excellent. The saki was served in a nifty little pot that had a candle for a warmer so it stayed hot throughout the meal. I also like the simple, classical decor. All in all a great place to eat! read more

The salmon lovers roll was OK the orange blossom roll was very sad the tuna was not good at all. The sexy Momoko is topped with tobiko and mayo, did not say anything about that in the menu. Terrible service. Went out with my wife for a celebration and waited 20 min in the doorway just for someone to acknowledge us. Got seated and waited another 10 min for our waitress to come to our table. Ordered all our drinks, appetizers and and sushi rolls as soon as our waitress came to the table. During our additional 45 min wait we watched as other tables seated after us got their appetizers and food. Looking around the restaurant our waitress was just standing talking to some dude. When we finally got our sushi rolls, we asked where our appetizer was and she said "oh sorry I'll grab that real quick". Only to come back with cold edamame. After bringing our edamame she never came back to our table to check how the food was. The only time she came back was to hand us the check after another 30 minutes. We had stated that the edamame was cold and she said "oh sorry it's just really busy". My wife and I both work in the food service industry, so we understand how busy things can get. That doesn't excuse being completely ignored. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. read more

The first time I tried the sushi, the second time I had the spicy seafood ramen and the third time I tried the spicy pork with rice.
