Owner + brother brought us samples of dough AND appetizers while we waited. 10 minutes later 3 plates of Kabob arrived with TAHDIG and ONIONS and TWO TOMATOES and SALAD SHIRAZI. In all my years of Persian food I've never seen so much included with a plate of Koobideh. Complementary homemade Baklava and Tea after. Food quality was excellent- portions were on the smaller side but very acceptable for the price. Very impressed with their service- will be back next time. read more

We ordered the Joojeh, Barg and Koobideh, and they seemed to have perfected grilling the chicken without over-cooking it. Beautifully seasoned meat, perfectly cooked and a generous serving, that is exceptionally good in our book. We also got the Ghormeh Sabzi (Persian herb stew). So flavorful. Without doubt their Persian Barley Soup was the best! Food came out pretty fast, we had a great meal and the customer service was impeccable. For our drinks we had Persian Lemonade and Doogh (yogurt drink) which were very refreshing. The dessert (Zaban) was also great. If you would like to taste a Mediterranean style meal in Denver, Shondiz is the best place to try and keep coming back to. Keep up the great work and delicious offerings! read more

Great hole in the wall hidden location. Tried it once and have gone several times since. The kabobs are amazing and the smoked Baba ghanoush is amazing. Service has been good but not great. I think they're just short staffed or get more take out orders than dine in. Still though, I recommended this place. read more

Wow. Just so yummy! I ordered the K3 which was a chicken kabob and lamb/beef kabob and they taste so good! Can taste the grilled flavor on the meet, the rice is super soft and fluffy which is really hard to get so right. The cucumber yogurt side, I forgot the name, but I love the big pieces of cucumber and it compliments the meal perfectly. And I think they are grilled? Tomatoes , but they are amazing too. So tasty! This place hit the sweet spot of having delicious and good quality food while still being affordable and quick! I find myself craving Persian food constantly and joke I should have been born into a Persian not Italian family! Since I can't afford to visit my favorite Persian sit down restaurant frequently, Shondiz is the perfect spot to fill the gap in my cravings! Their Koobideh is delicious and up to par for my expectations. It's juicy and flavorful and the rice is well prepared. The Joojeh is tasty but alas not my favorite of the ones I've tried. I do love their yogurt sauces and the SO enjoys the shirazi and dolmas each time we order take out. Overall we will continue to get tasty and affordable meals from Shondiz! Also the owners are friendly and offered my SO a taste of something while he was waiting for our food. They seem to really enjoy what they do and they do it well! I usually look forward to eating at this restaurant when I am in town, and recently I have been disappointed. The food has been dry. I ordered pita bread, was charged, but didn't receive. Rice tasted like dish water. Kafta kabob was dry. Usually comes with a crisp piece of rice on top of the rice, that hasn't happen the last three times I ordered. Please bring back the original owners, and get rid of the crew who are hired now. I would hate for such a good authentic restaurant to go under because of poor management. read more

Really enjoyed our lunch at Shondiz! The restaurant is small, but very clean. We were in the area, and the other reviews sold us! The owner is so outgoing and personable and he even gave us a free Falafel starter. They were the best falafel I have ever had. Tender, and soft on the inside and crispy outside, not crumbly or dry like I was expecting. The taste and the two sauces he served with them were delicious. For my lunch, I ordered the Koobideh, which is basically a ground lamb kebab. The meat was really juicy and yummy. My husband got the Schwarma sandwich. It was huge, filled with meat and all kinds of veggies and some pickled onions, a spectacular choice. We have to go back to try more of the delicious food! I don't know how this place has four stars. I guess it shows how limited our options of Persian food are in the Denver area. I am Persian and come from California, so perhaps my standards for Persian food are far too high, but my family and I agree that Shondiz was disappointing. The bread, shallot yogurt, and koobideh were good, but the salad was wilted and bland, chicken was dry, rice was old/cold/tasteless, and wrap was too saucy and inauthentic as it was wrapped with tortilla instead of lavash bread. Absolutely wonderful food. Great atmosphere and really simple to order. You can tell these folks put a lot of effort into this restaurant and the food reflects that. The chicken is incredible, spicy has just enough spice, enough to feel it but not so spicy that it stops being enjoyable. They have a house lemonade that's made with rose water that I could not get enough of. Definitely check this place out; if you're not familiar with Persian food, it's very similar to Mediterranean/Greek cuisine; if like that you'll love Shondiz. read more

Ordered carry out and loved it. The lamb doner plate was delicious. Loved the rice and sauces, and the dolma was great. I haven't had good dolma in awhile. The only downside was I had ordered a side of pita, and the receipt stated that was 10 pieces. I got 4 pieces aka one pita cut into quarters so that was disappointing. I am so happy to offer this review! We found this place because I just wanted a kabob and rice, simple and good. Shondiz came up and we made a run for it, despite it was late and close to closing time. When we entered it was obvious they were shutting down and we apologized for our lateness, but they served us anyway! We ordered a basic chicken kabob with saffron rice and some hummus with pita. We were done ordering but then saw a yummy dessert and added that to the order. They didn't hesitate and fired up the grill again so our food would be hot! I don't know many places who would do this at such a late hour. Just incredible service! They also threw you in a salad and some mint/yogurt sauce and gave us a sample of their lemonade. So yummy and refreshing with the added bonus of rose water. The flavors were a little different than the average kabob. I believe it might have a Persian influence and it was super tasty. The saffron rice was just perfect! I couldn't stop eating it. The hummus was superb and I know a little about hummus. This is a place we will go back to for sure. Hole in the wall casual spot with a few tables inside and outside. Food is fresh and prepared to order. Unlike its neighbor Fel Fel you will be in and out in less than 5 minutes. For less than $10 the vegetarian platter is a LOT of food: Big serving of rice, four dolmas, four falafel, hummus, spicy sauce and warm pita bread. Make it vegan by omitting the yogurt sauce. The dolmas are exceptionally good, soft and moist. Just wish they had a brown or spiced rice option. Get some baklava while you're here. It's less nutty than other places but has floral notes from the syrup they drizzle on top. Generous portion of four squares as well. read more

What's to say that hasn't already been said? Easily the best Persian food in the area, and at a price that can't be beat. My father's side of the family is Persian, and I've been exposed to nearly everything on the menu at least once in my life. Everything seems to be faithful to what I know, and even more delicious to boot. The rice is fluffy and delicate, the chicken perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the dolma being simply perfect. $10 for a plate that I couldn't even finish; if I had room for another bite, I would have taken it. Tried the combo beef and chicken. Beef was overly salty, and chicken was dry dry dry. The rice was very good, which is fortunate since it made up like 95% of the meal. The whole dish needed some kind of sauce to add moisture...maybe that's not a Persian thing, I don't know. The baklava was good, but also needed a little more moisture.
