I live in Flagstaff and there are no indoor ranges and the outdoor range is seasonal. I came down to Phoenix to visit family, so I thought I would check out Shooter's World on the Friday Ladies Night. I arrived around 5pm and although it was busy, I didn't have to wait to be helped at the counter. I brought my own firearm, ammo, targets, eye and ear protection, so it was a quick an easy process getting on the range. The staff was courteous and helpful and you can't beat Ladies Night for the price! Free! I don't get to Phoenix often, but I plan on going back when I am in town to get some range time in. Although I would like to take advantage of going on Fridays, my experience was worth the $15/hr range fee any other day of the week, especially when it is difficult to get time on the range. I don't know if they charge in whole hour increments for range time, but 30 min would be a nice option as I think I went through 150 rounds in about 30 min. This place is always sort of a mixed bag of gun porn, weird people, people I don't always want to shoot by, great employees, and decent prices. Where this place got five stars: - The guys behind the range counter. They're good dudes, they know their business, its low BS, and they do a good job of filtering out people who shouldn't have guns. - The prices on random gear. - Prices on knives. Where they lost a star: - The people who shoot there. Why is it every time I go in there I am always put next to some gang banger looking folk who want to empty clips with no skill but a quick trigger reset into targets that look like Bin Ladin? Don't these same people understand that Sheriff Joe, and most gun owners in AZ, view them in the same light as they view al qaeda? - It gets damn hot in the range. They need a bigger, better AC unit and a better air scrubber system in the range. - The lines can get real, real long for range time. Where I giggle: - The "knowledge" of the gun sales guys. Ask them about buying a POF rifle, then go do some research. Kind of tells you all you need to know about their supposed depth of knowledge on guns. All and all, a great place. With anything a few glitches, but that just means there's room to improve. read more

The thing with Shooter's World Phoenix is that your experience will vary wildly depending on who is working. I have been shooting there twice on Ladies' Day and have taken one private class and an introductory Defensive Pistol class. I too wish these guys wore name tags. The first time I went, the guy at the counter was so incredibly rude that I nearly walked out - but I wanted to shoot. This was my first solo outing. He showed me how to use the gun very quickly - snapped at me when I showed him a box of "clean' ammo I had purchased there - and told me I would have to get another box to use with the rented gun. Now that I think of it, he acted like a cop at a traffic stop - I kept wanting to ask him, "What's the problem officer?". I understand that shooting guns is a serious business, but knowing he had a very inexperienced shooter on his hands should have made him more thorough instead of less. Invevitably, I jammed the gun. Oh my goodness. So this poor, abused, overworked guy has to come into the range and unjam my gun. Remember potty training failures? That is exactly how he treated me. I might as well have pooped on the ground. Maybe it was because it was Ladies' Day and he doesn't like the bunch of inexperienced moochers that take up his valuable time (most of the lanes were open and there weren't any people at the counter by the by). Well, by this time I had already signed up for my Defensive Pistol intro course - I cancelled once because I didn't want to go to Shooter's World again. I rescheduled, girded my loins, and walked back in there. In truth, I was expecting the absolute worst - but it was not! Chris (I believe he spends most of his time up at the Peoria location) and Mat (Matt?) - again no name tags - I guess you have take a class or ask if you want names (although after my first experience I can understand why some of these guys don't want name tags) - sorry - I digress - were awesome. Matt helped me choose a gun to use for the course - we had to buy 100 rounds, but they told us if we didn't shoot the second box, they would refund our money. They are very clear in the classroom segment and patient and thorough during our range time. I guess it is time for a new paragraph. So, I don't know what to say, really. I know that I am hesitant to go there because I have no idea how I am going to be treated. I don't know these guys well enough to know who to approach and who to avoid. It's a jungle out there! The prices for guns are good here. They were even better than those I found at two of the recent gun shows. I only go on Ladies' Day (I thank you SW for that) so I don't have to pay for the lane and the gun rental. Ammo prices are good. The gun sales guy - tall fellow with gray/white hair is very nice. I will take the next class in Defensive Pistol - but it is 149 bucks and I need stuff - like magazine holders and a holster and I need to figure out how I am going to carry my weapon - I will check who is teaching it before I sign up though. I am very leery of some these guys. Some of them are just so plain condescending and rude and others are so considerate, thorough and kind. Name tags!!!! I want name tags! read more

I visited this location today to see what the location had to offer (i.e. shooting, memberships, retail, weapons, etc. ). I'm choosing a place to shoot after relocating to Phoenix. Overall, it looks like a good club for shooting. The people seemed nice. The staff was friendly. It's in a convenient area just of I-17 and Indian School. That said, the club seems fairly small (i.e. fewer shooting lanes than Scottsdale). The retail inventory is really lacking. I was not impressed by the sparse inventory (i.e. accessories, clothing, etc). They do have a separate "Tactical" room with a good selection of clothing. Prices seemed reasonable. Overall, it looks like a good spot. For my money, time, and experience I'm going to join Scottsdale Gun Club. read more

I have been going to Shooter's World for about 9 years now. Though I am not a regular and don't know anyone by name, I can say their staff is very professional and helpful. When I first stumbled upon the place, I had many questions about firearms and myths I had heard about different manufacturers and calibers. They were very patient with my questions and informative. Me and my wife started shooting at Shooter's World about a week ago on a Sunday. Great staff and helpful. I think that the membership for two persons, $400 is a great deal. We will actually do that in January. Funniest moment was when my wife asked where the restrooms were and about 5-6 employees at the same time lifted their left hands and pointed the rest room to her like they were traffic control in an airport. By the way Ward is the best gunsmith ever. We will definitely be regulars there. read more

I've always been impressed with Shooter's World. I've taken a class (with Anthony), shot at the range (Jared made sure all was well), purchased items, did an FFL transfer and I've yet to encounter an employee that wasn't very helpful and friendly. I started out with some rent-n-range time and the staff came off as very attentive and informative throughout the whole process. I was very interested in signing up for membership and the staff went through the process with ease as well. Still a great place to bring your guns / rifles to practice, practice and more practice. Make sure to bring proper eye and hearing protection as this will also save you money. Lanes are cheap. Plenty of range officers are on duty ; ) They keep everyone safe. This is especially important when there is a first time shooter on the range with no formal weapons training. Don't complain about the temp on the lanes either. Some are cool. Some are warm. There is plenty of ventilation to suck out the particulates. You are there to practice and train. PRO: They have been around a long time. Sometimes they have big sales with good prices. Range fees are average. CON: Used gun prices are way way too high. The interior looks like a morgue with plain cement floors and no decor at all. They need to go to Scottsdale Gun Club and see how it is done. My first time at Shooter's world last night and i am a regular at C2 Tactical. I have to say, the place had great stuff, polite and attentive personnel, but the range is another story. Right to the point. Too hot. I have never sweat this much on an indoor range. Circulation, after each shot the smoke hung in the air and i am sure headed down my lungs! Not acceptable!! Finally the cable bringing my target down range was so loose i had to wait a few minutes for it to stop swaying before i could shoot at it. My hands were filthy and heading to the men's room, NO PAPER TOWELS! Come on now!?!? With all that staff, you can't check the restrooms? So i won't be coming back, mostly the lack of air circulation. I don't need leaded smoke in my lungs. But I wanted it to be great, but to come back, you gotta get your act together guys. read more

Excellent state of the art facility, and outstanding customer service. Rarely a need to wait for a place to shoot, and range fees are reasonable. I have also taken a few of the courses they offer and they have all been very worth while. They have excellent NRA Certified instructors. Customer service was great. However, their indoor range is terribly ventilated, and is EXTREMELY HUMID. The humidity inside the range sucks all the enjoyment out of the experience. I kept having to wipe condensation off my scope, my glasses, to no avail. I wasn't sweaty at all, it isn't hot in there by any means, nor did I even stay that long. The moment you step inside the range you feel the stickiness on you. When you leave your clothes feel damp, as if you pulled them out of the dryer a little bit early. If they could fix their humidity problem I would rate them higher. If you were looking for a good gun store and gun smith, Shooter's world is a great place to go. If you are going soley for the indoor range I would advise going elsewhere. The Peoria location is better in this regard. If they could fix the ventilation/humidity issue in their range I would give them a four. Since the reason I would drive down there is to use the range and it is so uncomfortable I had to lower it. read more

Ladies Night at the location on cactus and the 101. Out meetup group went a group of first timers. We were frightened not many of us had ever handled a gun. We got a young man as our "instructor" he was very informative. He showed us how to us how to load the gun gave us a little pep talk and sent us on our way. Once inside I guess the staff could tell we were still unsure about this gun shooting thing. One of the guys came in a stayed with us pretty much the whole time. He helped us load the gun showed us how to properly hold it. And even showed us which eye we were more dominate with! It was great I loved it the place was clean ran very well. We are going to put this on our calendar to do every other month. read more

This is a copy of the email that I sent to Shooters World: I wanted to send a note to tell you about our experience at "Shooters World" on N 28th on 3 August, 2011. In one word, "Exceptional"! From the initial conversation with Harry, to the email exchange with Sean, and finally our in store experience with Justin (hope that is correct), everything was perfect. As we were planning a team builder, we wanted something more unique. Since a significant portion of the team had handled a weapon before this was a logical choice. I made initial contact with Harry to see if Shooters World could support our request. He was happy to assist us and was very professional. We discussed our requirements and, since no one was from the Phoenix area, a bit about the facility. We discussed the pistols available and he said they would follow-up with availability and pricing. A few days later, Sean followed up with Ammo pricing based on the pistols we were planning to fire. When we arrived on-site, Justin helped us with the required forms and offered more insight into the range. There was a classroom and a bay of 6 lanes for our group of 9 reserved for us. I said we would use the classroom for a basic "safety briefing" and he offered to assist if we needed anything. (Customer service above and beyond my expectations). As we were discussing different CCP's requirements from the different states the team resides in, Justin offered what AZ requires and much more information on shooting safety. When we were ready to shoot, Justin walked the team through the many gun choices and helped the team decide the first set of 6 pistols. He offered numerous targets and the required ammo. Once completed, he got us "eyes and ears" and escorted us into our "private" bay. After a quick "lane safety" briefing; we were shooting. We were able to exchange weapons through the process and ended up with a Glock 9mm vertical shooting test (17,19, 26, and 34). At the end, we had our new shooter awarded a "Glock Perfection" t-shirt and a team builder that was "out of the ordinary". Thank you for your time, your expertise, and you professionalism. Every person on the team was very impressed and we even got a new shooter out of the bunch. :) Next time I am in the Phoenix area, Shooters World will be on my agenda. I love Shooter's World and have been going there for decades. It's the best indoor range in Arizona...and when it's 115 degrees out, that's really appreciated. As a police officer, I believe 99% of the Phoenix area police officers use Shooter's World between official training at the department range. I usually avoid Shooter's World on lady's day because it's crowded. But based on all the reviews from beautiful women, I may have to reconsider that plan. ;) read more

Went for the first time on a Friday with two friends. Never shot a gun before and was surprised at how fun it is! The only down side is that if my friend was not there to show me exactly how to load I would have been a bit confused. Other than that its quick and easy to get in and shoot and if there's an issue there was a range officer passing by very frequently. Cool place! read more

i bought my first rife here the process was fast i just get bad energy from the employees. when i wanted to shoot the rife the short lady with mess up teeth was giving me the hardest time to sign up and aging bad energy from her i had to leave before i got angry but she was very unprofessional and acted as if i was suppose to know how they check in gun and start the process to shoot my rifle aging this girl needs to earn customer service i think all the employees need this. read more

It was a great time and Friday nights is ladies night free range time helpful people there. It's clean and the time goes by fast.

Started coming for ladies night with the hubby instead of going out in the hot desert to shoot. It is much nicer to have a cool, controlled setting for shooting my 1911 versus a ground target out against a dirt pile. I prefer the Phoenix location to the Peoria location. The staff in Phoenix is much more friendly and helpful and are always walking the lanes and watching, which I personally like, whereas the three times I have been to Peoria the staff was too busy talking to each other at the sign up counter that I never saw anyone walking the lanes, plus the Peoria location gives me the willies anyway. We enjoyed coming so much we became members and the price is a lot better than SGC, which locks you into a contract and is way to overpriced. read more

It was my first shooting experience..we went on Friday and guess what they have ladies night - which means that I needed only to pay for the bullets and I got a choice of free exchange of the gun. They have earplugs, glasses, lots of guns to choose from and very friendly staff. My first shooting experience wasn't the best one..I didn't really enjoy the guns and the noise..one of the staff suggested that I should try a smaller caliber..I said ..no problem as long as it doesn't make any noise when you are shooting..unfortunately it is not possible..but still they try to accommodate your needs. Friday before flying back home we decided to try again and this time there was a very nice lady helping me with a good selection of the gun. She said that even her 9 year old daughter could shoot with that one..ah ok...I am a bit more than 9, but I guess that shooting is not in my genes, however I enjoyed the rifle she suggested and did 500% more shooting than the first time..If we are ever in Phoenix area we will definitely go back there for sure. read more

Some people have stated that the gun, ammo, and accessory prices are high; however, I think the prices are fair if you factor in the good customer service and knowledgeable staff. read more
