And stop harassing the customer that has 25 items in a 20 item limit at register! The worst experience is going in after a long day working, getting groceries to go home and feed your kids, but get harassed and berated by rude employees! Avoid this if you're looking to buy meat. The steaks looked downright shredded. Each piece was several different thicknesses in one steak and shredded on the edges. Some meat had crushed bone on the ends and even green pockets of pus. Absolutely disgusting. The produce dept was picked over as well. I ended up leaving and doing my shopping elsewhere and I'll never come back here again. read more

HOME DELIVERY IS HORRENDOUS!!!! The people they have picking your order may be clueless? Been shopping here for well over 40 years and love this store. Recently I needed to have home delivery several times due to an illness. Took me over an hour to create my shopping list, which is fine. Being on a fixed budget, I like to buy sale items whenever I can. Many times, sale items are geared towards buying multiples, for example, 10 for $10.00. Well, I ordered 10 of the item and they text me they are out of stock of 7. Normally, they would offer a substitution, not this time. So they charge me full price for the 3 they sent me! I had the pleasure of needing flowers from the floral department. There was a younger girl and an older lady that were there to help me and both were incredibly helpful not knowing a lot about flowers and what to get they were both able to guide me in a direction that worked out wonderfully. Unfortunately, the store seems small, but there was plenty to choose from. I will definitely go back again for flowers to get me out of trouble. read more

Shop Rites can be found sprinkled all over Union County in New Jersey and over the years I have had many opportunities to visit various branches of this chain and I have found each one has its own distinct personality. Some are small, others are big. Some cater to a Latinx crowd while others have more generalized merchandise. For context, my two favorite shop Rites in the area are the World Class Shop Rite in Woodbridge and the smaller "regular" Shop Rite in Garwood. Located a little bit beyond Menlo Park Mall along the 1-9, it is hard to miss this Shop Rite thanks to the gigantic sign announcing its presence as you drive closer and closer to it. There was plenty of parking the day I went (a Saturday afternoon) so kudos for that. When you walk in, it is pretty clear this was an older structure that has recently undergone some renovations. Indeed, there is an extension to the left side that appeared to still be partialy under construction as of June 2019. When you enter, you are greeted by a sign declaring this to be a "World Class" Shop Rite, and I will not lie when I say I may have made a scoffing noise when I saw that. See, the "World Class" Shop Rite in Woodbridge is gigantic, rivaling other nearby supermarkets like Wegmans in size. This Shop Rite however was much smaller. But hey, size isn't everyting, right? "World Class" also implies a certain quality of selection, and this Shop Rite has that. They have a specialty food aisle with all sorts of Organic(tm) foods and products. They have a nice bakery section and except for some parts of the produce section they were very well stocked. Most of my reservations about this Shop Rite involves the layout. They have to cram a lot of product into less space than other Shop Rites have, so the result are some cramped aisles and other aisles that are nice and wide resulting in an odd layout. Usually with most Supermarkets there is a flow as you go up and down the aisles, but this one has some weird turns such as an entire housewares/pharma section that looks like it was either added on recently or another store that they took over. This is a fine Shop Rite, but not exactly what I picture when I think "World Class". It's nothing to go out of your way for, but if you're in the area and need to grab some groceries it is a good option. read more

COVID-19 REVIEW, meaning evaluated through my stay-at-home experience, ordering groceries online and having them delivered to my home. I never shopped here before the pandemic, but I started to back in March through Instacart, who delivers the groceries to my home. The Edison ShopRite has become our "go to" store for all the national name brands. They have all of the brands all the time (some of the other stores we use rely more on their own brands, to the exclusion of "name brands"). They seem to have a huge inventory, and it is very rare that they don't have an item. The fruit and produce we get there is always ripe and fresh. And they have have some of the items that can be hard to find other places, eg. matzo, Chanukah candles, et al. I will continue shopping here even after the pandemic ends. read more

I've come here 2x during the pandemic and both times, superb inventory availability, variety/selection, staff, service, cleansiness, and overall operations. Locals are content here and the staff seem happy fulfilling my long-held idea that as long as the staff are happy, so will the customers. Other major positives are its immensely convenient location on Rt 1 at Old Post Rd (the southern crossing), the spacious parking lot (shared with ~8 other businesses in the strip mall) which allows for proper social distancing while walking to/fro, the special customized inventory here (observed after shopping at ~20 ShopRites in the last few years in NY PA NJ), and their well signing everything going on such as the regular exhaustion of paper supplies (per the pulp industry's ongoing supply problems not limited to toilet paper but now more effecting paper towels) and wipes and such. All the staff labors and attention to detail are evident managing such a vast array of goods on a plot size which is still much smaller than the chain's World Class layout/architecture. Downsides are its layout (not due to being an older store as much as fulfilling the sheer breadth of products) doesn't promote social distancing even though staff have put vinyl barriers on all checkouts aisles, closed each other ones, and place copious signage especially on the main corridors to remind to socially distance. It's about as good as the situation and space allow. I'll do SRFH (ShopRite from Home, its online ordering and pickup and delivery service) from here including its prepared foods next visit which is biweekly. Very excited for good food at fair prices! read more

Ever since the ShopRite on Oak Tree Road closed over a decade and a half ago, I have been a steady patron of this store, as it is currently the only one in Edison proper. It is accessible directly from Route 1 South (you'll see a sign before you need to exit) and Old Post Road, which forms a T-intersection with the road that runs by Costco and Sam's Club. Take note that the Old Post Road entrance to the parking lot has some dangerously sharp angles to maneuver if you want to avoid the speed bumps. (I've only witnessed one collision so far, but in any case I prefer to take the straighter, slower route that runs by the Subway and now-defunct Party City.) As other reviewers have commented, the interior of this store is visibly antiquated--as evidenced by the worn floor tiles and not-so-occasional roof leaks during rainstorms. Due to its close proximity to the neighboring Edison High School, this ShopRite also sources many of its entry-level employees from a readily available hiring pool of current and former high school hoodlu...I mean students. (A few years ago, police officers would stand guard by the checkout aisles at night [since the store is open until midnight]. I haven't seen as many uniformed patrols recently, but I'm assuming that's because the local juvies have found more interesting things to do with their time than to loiter inside a supermarket with their friends who work there.) There is one main entrance/exit and at least one side exit by the pharmacy. As with several other ShopRite stores, the floral, bakery, and produce sections are closest to the entrance, while the pharmacy is located in an annex on the opposite side of the store (by the frozen foods section). Fortunately, the two express checkout lanes are the ones closest to the exit. The contactless payment readers are older models and hit-or-miss, so prepare another form of payment as backup if you plan on paying with an NFC-enabled device. read more

This place is an absolute disaster in terms of pandemic precautions. I found the cleanliness of this store suspect prior to the pandemic, and stopped going in back in March as a result. I recently went in early in the morning just to exchange a 5-gallon water bottle, thinking "how bad could it be, I just need to go straight to the register". Well....there were several employees with no masks or gloves walking around through customers, two of the three cashiers on duty were only half wearing their masks, there were a number of customers with no masks both shopping and hanging out on the benched by customer service. I left without my exchange, biting the bullet on the six dollars I lost by putting my empty in the return bin. This store is incredibly convenient for me, but I will never set foot in it again. read more

if I could give zero stars I would! I will never again step foot in this store!!! the staff is horrendous. I would go here 2-5 times a week but no more! after observing the staff and then being harassed yesterday I'll drive further away to avoid this place. First, they have 2 regular registers open most days with the worst cashiers I've ever seen. They are slow and incompetent. The self checkout will have two people who talk to each other, ignore what's going on and have attitudes heaven forbid you need help. Then there's the manager I think (same voice you hear over the loudspeaker for ads, can't miss it) who walks around talking loudly to employees but doesnt look at the customers. Hes as arrogant as the day is long. Before I mention what happened yesterday, avoid the deli counter! There's one nice older lady who has a work ethic, the rest are slow like a sloth (painful to watch), can never find anything and punch the codes in wrong. Yesterday I was harassed at self checkout. There was no one on line, 3 self check outs open. I began scanning my items, bags set up to fill and a male worker comes up to me and tells me I need to go to a register because I have more than 20 items. I had just over 20 but I've done more than that quickly before. I'm quite proficient with self checkout now due to their incompetent cashiers. Anyway, I politely say no thank you that I'm already started and I'll remember that for the future. he then hovers over my shoulder, did not leave. wouldn't leave. I was ready to blow. He kept making comments about how they redid the software and now everything is messed up so it's only 20 items now. I told him that they need to open more registers then and hire competent cashiers to which he says "oh they're awful, I just bring a book to read while I wait". When the machine would beep as it does for me to put the item in the bag (usually clears itself out quickly) he would bump me out of the way to punch in his codes and say "see?". I've never had my personal space so violated. on top of that I'm disabled, recovering from surgery and am under the weather fighting a cold. Yet there he was not leaving me alone. do not go near this store. it's a waste of time. Go to Woodbridge, they have better produce anyway and much nicer and more competent staff. have a good day. read more

I am biased to this grocery store because it is so close to where I work but my only suggestion is to get rid of the parking lot to the right of the store and EXPAND. There were rumors of this shoprite moving near a Sams Club down the road but I suppose the owner decided to stay. For the most part it is very clean and friendly. I see a lot of new faces, particularly young, high school students and workers who have been there for years. They really need to add a bigger lunch area. Having a salad bar at least would be nice. They also desperately need to add a self-check out. It makes running there late a little bit easier to go in and out if I only have a few items. Despite that this grocery store only has one cart section in the parking lot, I constantly see guys outside grabbing carts and racking them up. They made arrangements to redo the whole plaza but the parking lot could use some work. Though I have dings in my car from people leaving their carts in the middle of the road, I appreciate the workers tirelessly working outside grabbing and CLEANING the carts. read more

I want to share a recent experience I had in this store. I waited in line at a register, my position being forth. As I reached the conveyor belt and emptied my entire content of the cart the cashier says," sorry sir I'm closed" .I waited maybe 15 min or more in line and was in the line before she decided to close her station . Maybe I'm old fashion but I miss the days when a customer(s) : me , you, we, all patrons mattered! Where has customer service and company pride gone to? Where has consideration and pride in what and whom we represent disappeared to? I am one , but you and me add up to we. I encourage all who read this message to shop somewhere else. Overall, I like this Shoprite. Every cashier I've had has always been pleasant and friendly -- whether an older person or a young teenager. There is an older guy who stocks things or cleans the store and whenever I see him, he's always so pleasant, talking with customers, saying hi to babies, and once when I was trying to find something and read the signs, he saw me and offered his help. I do hate that there aren't any Self Checkout lines, because the cashiers are TERRIBLE at bagging. They put soft items like tomatoes or bananas with cans, jars, or cantaloupes. And they try to stuff everything into one bag, but then end up double bagging it anyway. I find myself having to re-pack things before leaving. Usually I try to hurriedly pack the groceries myself before the cashier can get to it! They always thank me for helping, so I guess it's a win-win situation. Produce looks fresh and I'm usually always able to find what I'm looking for. Sometimes the Fish section smells way too fishy and that's a turn off in terms of potential freshness. The parking lot seems cramped and just a lot of cars coming in different directions. Overall, worth coming back for my shopping needs. read more

Like everyone else, my grocery shopping has changed with the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm having difficulty finding the things I need, so I've tried stores that I don't normally visit. What I've found in this ShopRite is that they often have goods I'm not finding elsewhere. I was unable to find hydrogen peroxide in three different pharmacies; I found it at this ShopRite. They've had tissues, napkins, toilet paper, and paper towels intermittently during the pandemic. I even found the bar soap, and the liquid SoftSoap refills that I've been unsuccessfully hunting for. Depending on what you need, it may or may not be in stock. But more than once, I've found things here that I could not find in other local grocery stores or pharmacies. And in these difficult times, that's worth mentioning here. read more

This shoprite doesn't have it together. 9 out of 10 times when they leave the wrong price tag out, a grocery store would honor the price. I bought a case of water on sale for $16.99. It rings up $20.49 so I asked them to check. First the person checking it don't know where it is and cause a long line to form. And then he came back and told me and the cashier that the price tag was wrong and no longer on sale. I say for $3 difference just give it to the customer as it is customary when grocery store screw up on pricing. They didn't and the line was getting longer so said forget it and just pay for it. This is thee most RACIST Shoprite I have ever shopped in. I am an average completion African American female & every time I shop here I am constantly eyeballed by the staff. The most recent time, a total of three cashiers were standing around me watching me as if I had done something wrong. I spend so much money here for me & my family to be treated this way is absolutely unacceptable. I have asked a few of my friends who are also African American if they have experienced the same behaviors while shopping here & to my surprise the few that have pigmented complexions: confirm that they have. Only my friends who are a lighter African American complexion say that haven't noticed anything outstanding. None have cared enough to report it, but this STOPS TODAY!! Shoprite of Edison. I used to shop there regularly and I liked it. Now I shop there only occasionally. They hire random people who cannot and do not want to work with store items and the shoppers. I was buying organic grocery under the "Organic" sign. I took dill and parcly thinking they were organic, and only by chance discovered they were not. I discovered that everything under the sign was quite deliberately mixed together. On the same "organic" shelf there would be organic and not organic parsly or dill, for instance. I asked the "grocery manager", Jeziel about it, but he pretended not to understand what I mean. Then, when it became clear that all is deliberately mixed, he said said he does not know why. When I asked for a supervisor, Jeziel just walked away. Not a nice place. Lots of dead lobsters. I would not recommend. read more

Would be 3.5 stars... It has been years ever since I stopped at this location. I recently stopped here yesterday to get something that was on sale. This IS a World Class ShopRite, but it's smaller and older than the Woodbridge location. As I walked inside, it was clear that nothing has changed between the first time I was there and yesterday, which gave me the "retro" feeling. As with any ShopRite, the sale prices were AWESOME. Customer service was A-OK. The cheese selections here were impressive (as with any World-Class location). I also didn't have any major issues with parking, even though it's smaller and located in a strip mall (Edison Mall). Overall, this store has the "EDGE" over the Watchung location, but not over the Woodbridge location. But no matter what, if I'm ever in the area and need something that's on sale, I'll be back. Wrote a review on this store was very happy. On December 15, 2019 I purchased cooked chicken parts. It was so dry and old, I do not know why better business is not in this store . They should be fined for selling chicken so old and dry I could not eat it. I was in Shop Rite on 1 in Edison December 15,2019. I purchased a cooked chicken parts, so I did not have to cook when I returned home. I spent almost 200.00 in groceries. Sat down to eat the chicken was old dry and hard. How is this allowed? Who watches what they sell cooked. This package of cooked chicken should of been thrown out. I will be returning the chicken it is now in my refrigerator because I'm ill. read more

The guy who helped me yesterday at the seafood counter was friendly and very nice, but the seafood is NOT OKAY. I got home and opened the raw oysters I bought, and they were of a awful quality. Two of the six were completely empty... Nothing but sand and worms inside. The others were so gross my boyfriend actually ended up spitting one out, and were seasoned oyster eaters. I called the seafood department to tell them that the oysters had gone bad and no one answered (at 4pm). That was the breaking point for me. Some stuff is okay here. But anything that relies on being kept cold, I would avoid. read more

their prices are very low. I can pick up nearly everything the family needs for the week by selecting products that are on sale. In other words, there are so many good deals going on each week that I can let that be the driving factor in what we'll be eating for the week. my only complaint with this shoprite location is that leafy produce always seems to be on the verge of going bad. I've wasted too much money on tubs of mixed salad greens, baby Spinach, etc, only to throw away 90% of it within a couple of days. This is a "World Class" ShopRite which means it has a ton of international food, mostly focused on Asian foods (Korean & Chinese). As such, their produce selection is large and varied and they have most items in regular and organic As far as "American" grocery store fare they have the usual amount, but they don't have some of the specialty items like Newman's Own and other green brands. The manager refused to enforce the mask law and removed myself, and other customers who complained from the building saying that if we returned we'd be arrested for trespassing. Our closest ShopRite sucks in Plain English. They are always out of stock on normally stocked items. My main problem is with the hot soups. First of all they are GREAT. But our Shop Rite doesn't have any. I ask all the time and the white shirts tell me that the soup doesn't sell. Why? They sell in the other Shop rites that I go to in S Plainfield, Woodbridge and Piscataway. Maybe they don't sell because Shop Rite doesn't know HOW TO SELL SOUP !! Easter time comes and they used to put out Beef Stew and Chicken Noodle soup on Friday. A lot of their customers are Christian and don't eat meat on Friday. They never put New England or Fish chowder out. Why??? This is the most asked for soup. They only put out 2 choices of soups. The other Shop Rites put out 6 choices. That's why I almost never go to the Edison Shop Rite for anything. They should ask their customers about their policies. Every Edison Shop Rite customer tells me the same thing. Not one of my favorite Shop Rite's but it's not terrible. It's small compared to the other ones I have seen on Route 18 or Route 130. It's about the same size as the one in Piscataway so I guess I am kind of used to it not being enormous. It has the same set up as that one as well. Nothing out of the ordinary that made it "gross," but it wasn't the cleanest one I have ever been to. I only stopped because it was on my way home and I needed some fruit. Most of my apples were not that great but that could be because I picked bad apples haha. Cashiers seem nice, the young guy I had was friendly. If you can go to a bigger and better one, than I would. This is more of the quick stop shop for me. read more

The self checkout machines are horrible. The machines constantly need a worker to come over to reset it if the machine doesn't register the weight of groceries. They need to get rid of the weight option on self check out. It is so annoying. I have been shopping here for 18 years.
