I'm not usually in this area but recently I was in Union and I needed to pick some groceries really quick and this was the closest supermarket. As I drove up to the supermarket I realized I had passed it before and found it interesting. This is perhaps the smallest ShopRite I've been to in quite some time. It really looks like this was originally a small neighborhood market that has been renovated over the years. The most recent renovation looks very recent, probably in the last few years. The sign is very shiny and new, the exterior is super clean and the interior is bright with a lot of the new lighting that ShopRites everywhere have been installing. That said, the store is smaller than say Garwood or Linden so expect smaller aisles and tighter turns as you navigate your cart through the store. Item selection was unexpectedly good. I find as a chain of supermarkets ShopRite locations vary in their stock. I figured with such a relatively small space they would have to limit their stock to the only a handful of brands but the selection was nice. For instance, they had about five or six different brands of peanut butter and a good selection of items in their Asian sauce section. The produce also looked nice and fresh. On top of all that I was impressed by their selection of items like Beyond Meat and Impossible Burgers. I did not really interact with the staff other than checking out. No one was particularly friendly but they weren't *unfriendly* either, just very neutral. This was not the best ShopRite ever, but I enjoyed the visit and it's good to know if I'm in the area I can pick something up here. read more

Despite the long overdue upgraded space inside this ShopRite, unfortunately, they continue to disappoint by not having as many options as the bigger stores. Still a convenient stop if you're in the area, but something as simple as Sun Chips (for example) not being available just makes no sense to me. It happens a lot, which is why I no longer frequent this location. Customer service is not very helpful either. They seem to not have any answers to any questions. read more

These people are rude and miserable. There are one or two cashiers that are lovely, but the ones that stand around and tell you what to do are curt and unhappy. Just wanted to give a little update - in 2025, this ShopRite has been renovated and it is modern and very nice. I have been shopping here for 19 years now and I can't imagine going anywhere else. It has the best prices, great variety and quality food. read more

I have been a patron of Millburn Shoprite for years and lately, I have noticed practices at this location that have made me increasingly uncomfortable shopping at this location. In the current climate we are living in right now, I am reluctant to write this review; however, my recent visit at Millburn Shoprite has prompted me to write and post this review. Today, I noticed increased surveillance following me around the store, especially after visiting the meat section. What was most disturbing to me was the surveillance watching me at self-check out and after paying one of the surveillors a manager or security walked up to the screen to view my payment. I felt like returning every dime of it! I should have learned my lesson from the first experience when this occurred and I vowed never shop at this location again, but shame on me for giving it another chance...I'm done feeling uncomfortable shopping at this location...I will NEVER return to spend my dollars here. read more

This has been my go to Shoprite for many, many years but after an experience with a very unsafe, negligent situation in this store and horrendous interaction with the manager Ed, I will no longer shop here. I highly suggest to others to shop else where. Shoprite of Union and Shoprite of Springfield are options to consider if you want a safe store shopping experience and confidence in store management. Furthermore, the family that runs this store portrays themselves as a family run business but if you try to communicate with them directly, their corporate gatekeepers know how to keep you from reaching them. The customer experience should be a priority today for any retailer and when this is not executed my choice is to go elsewhere. read more

I visited this Shop Rite for the first time. They need to gut this place out & do a whole remodel. The deli department's service was subpar. While there were no customers on line, they still insisted that I enter my order in the kiosk, while they continue fulfilling other orders. I don't think this would have pissed me off as much had I had more shopping to do. Then I realized that I wasn't the only customer who found this an inconvenience, but others did as well. Once I had my cold cuts, I headed to checkout just to squeeze through the way too narrow checkout lane, my cart was literally hitting the edge. The best thing about this visit was that I got the 3 things I went to get & the friendliness of the cashier, other than that I have no intentions on ever going back to this location. read more

A smaller ShopRite, not as well stocked with unusual cuts off meat like hocks and lamb cuts like the Jersey City store I go to. Given the size, it's still crammed with all the basics and main brands, so you can get the normal items here, and a convenient walk to Taylor Park. Prices are okay, and the staff is friendly. Parking lot is a little odd and entry is a little tight to keep close together on entrance and exit. read more

So we all have been to a Shop-Rite at some time in our lives, living where we do, so we know what to expect. But tonight for some reason, I was bothered by the amount of complaining the employees were doing. At 7.38pm when the store closes at 9.00pm everyone, literally everyone was complaining about their day, wanting to go home, how they have so much other "stuff" to do...apologies if this seems like "I am complaining," but we all work hard, the last thing I want to do is go grocery shopping at 7.38pm...then to hear complaining employees not providing at least minimum customer service. Throughout COVID, I found this shop rite very well organized, fairly stocked. There were never long lines even during the worst phases. I was a Trader Joe's fan but switched because of no lines and open spaces. Love this particular shop rite. read more

I've felt compelled to review a few businesses as of late, as I'm honestly tired of the ways in which I've been treated, and the services I've been given. Especially given the climate we are living in and I am calculated as to where I spend my hard earned money and which business I choose to frequent. Millburn has become my go to, simply based on its convenience. I often go when they open, and there's always times when the shelves are bare and it's difficult to shop when they are stocking. I am completely understanding as I myself work for a different grocery chain, and I get how things run. I'm more disappointed with a handful of employees and the nastiness in which I have been met with at self checkout quite a few times. It's mainly two older women who have been unpleasant nearly every time I am there, which is every single week, but today really was the icing on the cake for me and I think I will be taking my business elsewhere. Working for a company who prides itself on its customer service, I understand the that other stores don't set the standard that we do, but my gosh, I should be treated with respect at the minimum and spoken to kindly. Sad that a few bitter sour apples have ruined it and overruled the kindness of the long time, wonderful employees that are in the other parts of the store. read more

This store is a REAL BAD reflection on ShopRite. Their new deli counter ordering system is a joke. I placed an order for two items and when I was complete ordering from the Kiosk it said I could pick up my order an hour and 20 minutes from the time I placed the order. Who spends an hour and 20 min in a supermarket. There was 4 people behind the counter and one was a rude non caring Woman who looked like I was disturbing her when I asked a question. There are too many other places to shop than go this ShopRite with Rude employees that have no customer services skills. read more

Sure the physical plant could use updating but, seriously folks, not everything needs to glisten or gleam. (Too many people conflate "modern" with "clean" or "aging" with "dirty") I'm quite surprised by reviews commenting negatively on employees as I find everyone there very friendly and helpful. (Note: It goes a long way not to treat store employees as inferiors or underlings, which is a scene I've witnessed all too often, marveling how they show restraint when confronted with demanding and abusive snobs) A good half of the store's employees know me by name, which I find particularly remarkable as I'm not there more than once every two weeks or so. The middle sister of a three store Shop Rite chain, Union and Livingston are the others. This location certainly shows age and a general dingy appearance, but it is light years ahead of the Union store. Their meat department and produce selection are larger, while the fish department and bakery (the two things that Union does well) are smaller. Millburn Shop Rite is the least likely of the three stores to be adequately stocked with items from their circulars, particularly soda. They're also less likely to have merchandise which should be on the shelves simply left in the aisles. As with the Union store, parking is usually adequate, but can be tight on a Saturday afternoon. Both stores are slow to open additional checkout lanes when needed, but Millburn tends to have a more focused and efficient group of cashiers. read more

Unfortunately I have to agree with the fellow patrons of Milburn ShopRite. The customer service Is as far away from Service as one can get. When you return something with or without a receipt they make you feel like you are doing some terrible deed by returning an item that was defective or otherwise unedible! They truly make you feel as if you're trying to cheat them in some strange way. I had a block of Cheddar cheese that cost $11.79, and when I opened it I found Green Mold! You might have thought I was asking for my $12.79 + $17,000‼ Very bad experience. read more

Very small store, but great location, with very little competition in the area. Deli counter is slow and cramped, with inadequate selection of yesterday's prepared foods. Produce is the worst I've seen in a market - just poor selection and quality of fruits & veggies. Staff is not very helpful. I used to like this store-it's subpar but Shop Rite offers great bargains for items on sale and as I have a family to feed, I think Shop Rite offers good value. I have been shopping at this location since 2003 since becoming a resident. The last year when Shop Rite introduced digital coupons, time to finish shopping has taken longer at the line and a frustrating experience every time I try and use the digital coupons. I have the App downloaded and coupons clipped but if you don't do something something right, you get an angry store manager letting you know there is nothing that they can do to improve. One afternoon a very nice cashier was apologetic as digital coupons were not coming off. Chris, I think another cashier or assistant manager comes over and I explain that they should figure out how to improve the digital coupons since customers must use it to get the discount. He courtly cuts me off and says "it's a company thing. What do you want me to do about it?" Really? A long time customer is taking the time to let you know how something can be improved and this is your remark? He storms off to customer service with my receipt and literally did not come back for 10 minutes. Then he says I need your item. When I gave it him. I asked whether I should just follow him. He doesn't hear me. Another 5-7 minutes then he moves me to another register where he doesn't explain to the young cashier what he should be doing for me. The sale price comes off but the young cashier says ok you are good. I explain to him that I did not pay yet!! Chris, instead of getting mad, understand that it's your job to improve things for the customers and the employees at the store!! If you don't like your job, quit so that they can hire someone more pleasant!! read more

Been shopping here for 25+ years and am loyal to this store. Deli counter the last few years needs help from management. Slow service, complaining in front of customers and cleaning up that should happen after store closes and not when people are waiting. There are better Shop Rites in NJ however we find ourselves shopping at this location out of convenience. My specific complaint is the deli. During weekend hours the staff at the deli forgets to acknowledge customers although they have sufficient time to chat and joke behind the counter. On Saturday I was the only customer waiting but it took several minutes before the counter person looked over at me and offered to assist. On Sunday there were three individuals at the counter and not one turned to acknowledge myself or the two individuals waiting behind me. They were laughing and chatting behind the counter. When one of the gentleman finally took my order he had to ask three times what I ordered and how much. Not polite. No customer service skills. Don't visit the deli on the weekend. read more

Small hot foods and salad bar section that was also very cramped. I go to alot of different supermarkets and of cores many shoprite ...this one felt a little out of placed to me... Didn't fell like the usually shoprite....everything was so cramped together... The road to walking up and down the ails or across was pretty tight... Not a good food shopping envorment... I don't know why it was so cramped...came here to get flowers for a friendly visit for some reason people think that plants are flowers...keep telling me its outside and that's all they have... Finally I just ask customer service and they said the flowers are located all the way on the second ail next to the meats...there were limited of flowers to choose from...but I was in a hurry so I didn't really care...usually shop rite is really up to date with there stuffs... There are massive lines everywhere and I came here on a Saturday afternoon... yes there is a huge parking lot! read more

The staff here is really nice but the actual setup of the grocery store is awful and in desperate need of a gut and renovation. Aisles are so narrow that 2 people with carts coming from opposite directions cannot pass each other. The produce is old and the atmosphere of the space is just depressing. I only come here because it's on the way home from Trader Joe's and I only buy distilled water, which is usually sold out at the ShopRite in Union. read more

Worst policies, worst assistant manager ever. Won't return an item for credit card credit that was defective when they have proof that I bought it there right on my Shop Rite card? Give me a break. Not everyone keeps a receipt if they're not planning on returning anything, of course not expecting a defective item. I will never shop there again. Trader Joe's and Target for me. I have been a customer for over 31 years. I consider many of the employees of the store friends. We always speak to each other about our families. I am in the store a few days a week. It's a welcome and warm atmosphere. This afternoon I had quite a different experience. I was returning 4 of the same item. I buy this item frequently and if I'm in another shoprite I will pick it up. I did not have a receipt but it showed that I had bought this on my shoprite card. A manager had to be called over and the person in courtesy and him had a whispered discussion. I was told I could not return the item as I had bought it in a few locations over the past month. Then I was told that shoprite no longer accepts returns without a receipt. I was made to feel like a criminal. I think the store needs to train their managers how to treat a customer with respect and courtesy. It's sad to think that this one incident has changed my opinion about this store but it will never change my feelings toward the wonderful people I consider friends over the past 31 years. read more

I am a fan of this store. I have shopped here for the last 13 years. This is a store that is cared for by it's managers and employees. They are friendly and know their customers. I have always been spoken to politely. They watch their lines to make sure check-out is not backed up. I like that it is a small store. I can find everything easily and if I don't see what I am looking for they never hesitate to offer to check. Employees are always around restocking and are happy to assist. This store has more of a mom and pop feel. That said, it is not a large store and it is a bit worn. It's true aisles can be tight but people who regularly shop here are polite to each other and are just as friendly. So you smile, laugh and give your apologies for the occasional tight squeeze. For the last 14 years, I shop almost every week and I shop at ShopRite of Millburn. I find the staff to be professional and personable. They take pride in the way the store looks and care about their customers. I see how they help the senior citizens, support every organization who requests donations or a table outside the doors. I meet people from all the neighboring towns at ShopRite. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and shopped less often. When I returned, my friends at ShopRite welcomed me and made me feel better. read more
