Wow! I will 100% be coming back here. The inside feels like a beach side bungalow you'd find on an island. They have a centered bar with lots of seating. Our server was very kind and attentive. We walked here after snorkeling in La Jolla. We saw they had vegan options, which is always a plus. The food was very good and well portioned. Shoutout to the variety or drinks and mocktail slushies they offered.

Second time here. The first time I really loved it. This time not so much. Maybe because I ordered different things. Love that they have outdoor seating so you can feel the breeze from the ocean. Indoors is also great as they have TVs for watching or you can sit at the bar. Service was great! We ordered: Longboard (cocktail) Guava Jellyfish Both were delicious but not a lot of alcohol. Too sweet for my taste. It's good though. Fish and Chips - very thick batter. They fish looked like eggrolls. The fries are weird. Like they're not real potatoes or something. Shrimp Rolls - decent Calamari - pretty good. Liked the pinkish sauce over the white sauce which I think might be ranch. I preferred pouring malt vinegar all over it! Kale Caesar - lots of tomatoes which I like. Maybe that it's kale instead of romaine missed the mark for me. I like a crisp to my salad. Burger - can't go wrong with a burger.

We stopped by after a kayak tour next door, looking for a quick bite, and this place ended up being a great find. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. The atmosphere had a relaxed, beachy vibe, and it seemed like a lot of locals were dining there, which is always a good sign. The service was especially memorable. Our server was incredibly friendly and even gave us recommendations for other places to check out around La Jolla, which we really appreciated. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for a casual, fresh meal after spending time by the water. I'd definitely stop by again.

Inside wall decor. Kinda cool but they need to take care of the plants. Half are fake though.

Fun atmosphere and lots of options on tap. They have great food options, healthy to burger options. I ordered a Beach Bowl with seared tofu in ginger. Sadly there was almost zero ginger taste. The bowl was super good though. Very fresh and a large portion. Could have had some more of the special sauce they put on it but all in all it was super yummy and recommend it for a fresh meal. The service was ok, nothing special from the server, no smiles and straight to business. I did visit the day after July 4th so maybe the workers were tiered. None of the workers seemed to be happy or have energy.

Shore Rider has a laid back vibe and excellent food. The Ahi Poke was fresh and delicious. Great spot to grab lunch & a drink.

Stopped by hungry after kayaking the caves and was greeted at the front by a cardboard cutout of the rock lol. After we sat ourselves, a nice waitress came and gave us menus and some water. Music was blasting and the atmosphere was great! We decided on the yellowfin ahi poke bowl (seared ginger scallion style) and paid a bit extra for the load it up! option, which added seaweed salad, avo, edamame, cucumber, and cabbage salad. It was yummy! The ginger flavor was not too overwhelming, and it really came through in the ahi. We also got the carne asada beach bowl, which unfortunately didn't have as much flavor as we had hoped. The portion size was pretty generous and overall the ingredients seemed fairly fresh. Thanks for filling our bellies!

The food was good, staff was good, However the ambiance was ruined when their delivery truck decided to show up during lunch rush and made my whole stomach churn. But I am keeping my food and beer down. It's just a bad way of service when the delivery truck is late. Might come back later but if the truck is here still I am going to be more upset then I already am. I am mostly upset because the truck delivery is also causing a disruption to other businesses around. So do better be better.

After a great day of activities is in La Jolla, we had a taste for some fish tacos. This place was perfect. The restaurant/bar has a very cool vibe and is very friendly. Having both the fish tacos in the lobster tacos was the right choice. They were perfectly seasoned, a great portion, and so delicious! This is a great place in La Jolla!

The food was pretty good and you could eat outside on the street. The atmosphere was good. There was food for the kids so they were happy. Make sure to park somewhere you won't get a ticket it's heavily enforced. I had the tuna poke was fresh. My wife had tacos and the kids had a hot dog and quesadillas. Bathroom was clean. Would go back Our waitress was friendly.

Love this restaurant! I was introduced to this place by one of my good friends and now I can't stop coming back. Trust me once you try it, you are going to do the same thing! The food is absolutely delicious! You can go wrong with anything on the menu. Whatever you get will be tasty. Some of their foods you can definitely share with another person so get more than one item so you can try more than one thing! I got the grilled salmon bowl with sticky rice and YUM! It was soooo good!! Definitely going to get that again when I go back. Definitely fills you up. They have different specials everyday with food and drinks. Their drinks and foods aren't expensive and reasonably priced. There is also only street parking but I have never struggled or ever had to circle multiple times. I have always found a spot which is great. Parking isn't bad. The service is excellent! The waiters, waitresses and bartenders are wonderful and absolutely nice! Always helpful and always giving great recommendations and always patient with answering questions or helping out small or large parties. The inside is such a vibe. I loved the whole beach vibe since hence they are close to the beach lol. It's really cute inside. They have plenty of seating with tables, booths and bar seating. You can bring your dogs I have seen and I love it. I honestly love this place so much!

Atmosphere was laid back and fantastic. Regulars hugging the bartenders and everyone seemed happy to be there. Our server was awesome and attentive. Food was top notch from the beach bowls to the street tacos to the Big Dog. One of our favorite stops in our week in San Diego.

Visited Shore Rider in La Jolla 2 months ago and overall had a nice experience, though there were a few areas that could be improved. The grill wasn't working that day, which was a little disappointing, but the rest of the menu made up for it. The fried chicken sandwich was crisp and light, generous size of fish and chips was crunchy and tasty, while the raw selections were fresh, flavorful, and really showcased the quality of their ingredients. The laid-back, beachside atmosphere is perfect for enjoying seafood, but the service could have been more attentive. We were seated outside, and our server spent most of the time inside, so it sometimes felt like a wait to get checked on. A little more attention would have elevated the experience. Still, Shore Rider has a lot going for it with its tasty seafood and great location, and I'd return, especially to try the grilled items once the kitchen is fully up and running

What are suggested, healthy vegan options (ideally gluten free)?

There are only two options; Buffalo cauliflower minus the blue cheese and Al Pastor Cauliflower Marinated Cauliflower Florets, Chipotle Cream, Pineapple Salsa minus the chipotle cream.

Where's the best bet to park nearby?

Parking can become really frustrating in this area, LOL. Plan to have to drive around a few times! There is a combo of paid and free spaces on the street, just a matter of finding an open one.

The place was lively, but luck was on our side: one perfect booth remained for the four of us sweet seekers. We settled in and immediately starting gabbing (versus checking out the menu). George came over to take our order. Without even glancing at the dessert menu (a bold move, I'll admit), I asked for one of each dessert to share--paired, of course, with a couple glasses of Scarpetta Rosé bubbles (okay so I glanced at te wine menu). Priorities . What arrived was equal parts surprise and delight. First, a charming little glass jar filled with lightly whipped crème fraîche and topped with salted caramel--simple, elegant, and absolutely delicious. And then... the "hamburger." Cue the table going completely silent. Naturally, we had questions. Our server walked us through this masterpiece from the bottom up: a golden caramel cake "bun," topped with a chocolate-coated ice cream "patty," a delicate mango gelée "cheese," and even "pickles" made from matcha cake. Finished with a second warm cake layer and a touch of garnish we were too excited to fully catch--because at that point, we were already diving in. The contrast of warm cake, cool ice cream, and rich chocolate was nothing short of fantastic. Playful, unexpected, and genuinely delicious--exactly the kind of dessert experience you hope to stumble upon. Thank you, The Whaling Bar, for the sweet surprises. We'll absolutely be back--next time for martinis, and I've already been told the duck meatballs are not to be missed.

AMBIANCE Parking: La Jolla streets can get pretty busy. There's a small plaza and paid street parking as well - for that, you may have to circle for a bit. Seating: Inside seating with different variations from a booth, table, and bar. Great for individuals or large groups All depending how you want to set the mood from a fun date night Vibes: Welcome to La Jolla! A part of San Diego, moreover the upscale part of it. Plenty of good eats and restaurants with a small business feel. Le Coq itself is located in a historic building with mix aesthetics of it's original 1930s character to it's nice retro 1970s supper-club aesthetic. Dim lighting, brick and velvet design with mirrors and different flavors of music based on the dj. An upscale feel but no pressure for it. FOOD Stuffed Chicken Wings (Recommend) I've seen Southeast Asian stuffed chicken wings but to see what French flavors to put into it was interesting. You got tsukane (Japanese meatball) speck (ham), raclette (cheese) with egg yolk and soy sauce for flavorings. It's quite the mix of flavors for a savory and rich umami flavor. Char Sui Pork Collar (Highly Recommend) Another comforting Asian dish with signature char sui sauce. The pork was tender, juicy, and rich. The mix of beet glaze and hot mustard brought additional flavors and textures of sweetness and creaminess. This was my favorite. CUSTOMER SERVICE Awesome! Professional, friendly, and knowledgable about the menu. They're presence contributed to a positive experience. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Creative food, beautiful atmosphere, and a dining experience that feels distinctly San Diego. This isn't your traditional French steakhouse. Props to Chef Tara for bringing a nice spin to French cuisines. Such an interesting contrast of light and dark. The bar area is light and vibrant and then there's a sudden shift into a moody velvet covered interior. The bar and dining room serve different menus FYI. Lots of very interesting dishes on the menu, great for sharing. We got the tomahawk pork chop, the gnocchi, and some steaks. The pork chop was beautifully cooked with fat that just melted in your mouth, but it was pretty fatty and rather on the bland side, don't know that I would recommend that. Steaks were great though I wouldn't necessarily recommend as I think there are other more interesting things on the menu. We had a side of green beans that was really great. Love the balance of salt, fat, and the ume vinegar. Star of the show was really the gnocchi in my opinion. They were prepared like scallops and looked like scallops, shaped similarly and seared on both sides. Amazing texture. The flavor of the green sauce is pure magic on top. And the duck confit takes it to the next level making it a dish I'd be perfectly happy with just eating that alone. Cocktails were good though nothing blew me away on that front either. Creative, but not the best. Had the Puebla Carajillo and it tasted kinda like a watery cold brew, didn't taste the Licor 43 at all. Then had the monte carlo which was like a banana old fashioned, but just really fake banana taste. Didn't think either were super well balanced. Finished off with the tableside mousse for dessert. Kind of a seemingly fun thing, but felt kinda awkward picking out toppings and trying to decide among the table who would or wouldn't want some of it. Really nice texture and sweetness. There's a late night happy hour as well and it seems like this place has some fun vibes on the weekend based on their instagram. Maybe only on certain nights? I'd like to go back for a night like that and check out the scene. Otherwise I think Animae will remain my preferred choice for a dining room experience.
