We stopped by for a quick lunch around happy hour. It was a very hot day with no wind, so we were really looking forward to a cold beer--but unfortunately, the beer was barely cold. Pretty disappointing. We also ordered a glass of house wine, which was actually not bad, and the garlic fries. The fries came in a surprisingly large portion and were tasty. For the main food, we ordered shrimp tacos and carnitas tacos. Each order came with only two tacos, and at $22 for two basic tacos, they felt very overpriced. On top of that, you have to pay an additional $2 for your choice of shrimp or meat. The pasta pricing is even more surprising: basic pasta dishes are around $21-$25, and then you have to add another $7-$20 depending on your choice of meat or fish. I have to say, the food itself was tasty, but the pricing is way over the top for what you get. With these prices, I expected either larger portions, better ingredients, or a more impressive overall experience. Good food, but unfortunately not a good value. read more

My biggest concern was food safety. My husband has a seafood allergy, so he ordered fries as a safe option. After eating only a couple of them, he immediately became sick and ended up dealing with vomiting and an upset stomach for the rest of the day. When he told me the fries tasted strange, I tried them myself, and so did the friends who were dining with us. All five of us agreed they did not taste like regular fries. They tasted like fish. I asked our waiter to check with the kitchen whether the fries were being cooked in the same oil as the fish and calamari. He later returned and apologized, confirming that they were. He stated that this was the first time it had happened, though I am not sure whether that was actually the case. Thankfully, my husband's reaction was limited to an upset stomach and vomiting. It could have been much worse, and I am grateful it wasn't. Aside from this issue, the service was decent, and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, for anyone with seafood allergies or sensitivities, I would strongly encourage asking detailed questions about food preparation and cross-contamination before ordering. read more

We ordered breakfast burger and smoked salmon sandwich. The burger came with fries and we substituted the fries for garlic fries. The burger and garlic fries were very good. Wanted a rooftop dining experience for my birthday and selected this location at 8p for sunset. They texted me that my table was ready before the reservation time and that was great because I could watch the full sunset. I had the caprese and Focaccia which was delicious. Birdseye Rooftop is a cozy spot with beautiful ocean views--especially at sunset, which really makes the whole experience. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away without a reservation, and since we were just stopping in for a quick snack and drinks, we knew what we wanted immediately. Unfortunately, service was a bit hit or miss. It took about 15 minutes for a server to come over, and we noticed another table seated after us had already been greeted and had their drinks. We ended up flagging someone down, and they did apologize for the delay. On the positive side, our server went out of his way when we asked about Coke Zero. Although they didn't have it initially, he managed to find a bottle for us, which was a really thoughtful touch and appreciated. When the food arrived, we realized we hadn't been given side plates or silverware, and after asking, we were brought a dirty sharing plate, which was disappointing. That said, the food itself was very good--the empanadas were delicious, and the salad, while simple, hit the spot. Overall, the atmosphere and location are hard to beat, but the inconsistent service brings the experience down a bit. Came here for happy hour to catch the sunset. Parking was the usual annoying situation you expect anywhere in DTLJ, but once you're up on the rooftop, the views definitely make it worth the hassle. They have some happy hour specials that include basic apps and $12 margaritas. We ordered chips and guac and a margarita each. The chips and guac were solid overall, though the guac could've used a bit more salt. The salsa, unfortunately, kind of sucked. The margaritas were very strong, but not in a good way--more like straight tequila than a balanced margarita. I enjoy a strong drink as much as the next person, but these were just not well-executed. That said, the view is really the star here. We came on a day with great visibility, and the sunset was beautiful enough to make up for the mid drinks. Stopped by the rooftop bar at our hotel and was met with neutral, uninterested service from the start. The host ignored my question about other tables, and our server had awkward banter when we mentioned a small discount from the front desk. Drinks were good, but service was slow -- our chicken sandwich and fries took 30-40 minutes while others who sat after us got their food first. By the time ours came, it was lukewarm, so we took it to go - which was also met with another sarcastic comment. The only friendly person was the girl refilling water, who was actually attentive and smiling. Not worth the price or the "15% off" that barely covered the $5 split plate fee. We hit this rooftop spot on a perfect night--breezy, great view of the water, tacos calling our name (because Taco Tuesday is a lifestyle). Drinks? Fantastic. Mezcal old fashioned, Japanese old fashioned, tequila flights, mezcal flights... basically, if it came in a glass, we tried it, and not a single one disappointed. My wife's sangria was a hit too. So yes, the bar staff is doing the Lord's work. Now, the service? Let's just say it had... island time energy, except we weren't on an island. It took 25 minutes just to see the first drink, another 30 for tacos, and by the time we finished paying the check, the sun had packed up and gone home. Our beach plan? Cancelled. Instead, we left with the gift of night vision training. Also, shoutout to my carne asada tacos that I asked for with pico on the side. The kitchen heard that as "load it up with pico like it's a salsa commercial." They remade it, but by then I was wondering if I needed to order breakfast too. The ambiance is nice, there's a beautiful view of the ocean. We ordered a draft Pacifico and I got a dragon fruit mojito. The presentation was beautiful, the drink itself was okay. We also got the fried calamari, it was yummy. It came with fried jalapeños and a side of tartar sauce and it was nice touch. I decided to get the lemon linguine, which was delicious, I am a huge lemon person so I really enjoyed this dish, and I wish I could've add some of protein next time. It was delicious, not super buttery, great flavor and was about $16. The service was great, and they even gave the table a cake to all share which was kind. The drink menu, on the other hand, was amazing so I'm assuming that's why this place is popular. After I walked by this place a bit ago, I tucked it away thinking "I need to come back and try this". So, when my cousin and I had a girls night out we decided to try it. The hostess stand is at street level and then you walk a steep staircase to the roof. There were roughly a dozen or so tables on the roof, some hightop tables and some normal. We chose a hightop and had a partial view of the water. Even with the angle of the patio the views are pretty nice and the breeze is wonderful. We got there on a Thursday during happy hour and while the margaritas flights looked good, we played it safe and chose house margaritas on the rocks. They were so good! We also ordered the happy hour guac and chips. The portion was great and both chips and salsa were tasty too. For dinner we both chose tacos. While they are street tacos they didn't skimp on the meat or toppings, each taco was packed full! I got shrimp & carnitas while my cousin got carne asada & carnitas. We both really enjoyed them. On a gorgeous weekend after going to The La Jolla Concours d'elegance, I wanted to go to a rooftop bar. This fit the bill perfectly since I was able to see some of classic cars in the street below. I was seated right away in one of the tables next the glass, so I had an amazing view. It is difficult to get in and out of the tables since they are close together. To start, I had the Girl on Prospect. This was a slightly tart refreshing drink, which was perfect for the weather. I tried the sangria, which was sweet and delicious. To snack on I had the fresh guacamole (it was overpriced imo but it's La Jolla) with chips. I also ordered the salmon at a medium but was more like a medium well. I was able to swap out the veggies for the fries, which were crisp and loaded with chunks of Parmesan cheese. Food & drinks came out kinda slow. I still would come here around sunset to enjoy the view and sip on a drink or two. read more

Came here in the late afternoon for a bite & drink with a view. I would have rated this two stars for the service and food but added an additional star for the view. This restaurant sits above a small boutique hotel and has a small dining area and bar that has a nice view of the water. We sat at the bar after being told all of the tables had reservations. Despite it being a small place and two and sometimes three bartenders on duty, we had to wave someone over to get drinks, also had to wave someone over to order food. Our food arrived and there was no cutlery so we had to wave someone over for cutlery. At no point did anyone ask if we needed anything, another drink, etc or how our food was. The food & specialty cocktails we tried were just mediocre, at least by my NY standards. The service was extremely slow & poor, especially for so small a place. At the end, we also had to waive someone down for the check. I wouldn't go back or recommend, but if you just have a drink and take in the view, it might be ok. read more
