A cute rooftop restaurant with an ocean view. We found this place while walking around to find a breakfast spot in La Jolla on a Sunday morning. We ordered breakfast burger and smoked salmon sandwich. The burger came with fries and we substituted the fries for garlic fries. The burger and garlic fries were very good. I also liked the thin burger buns. The smoked salmon was fresh and tasted good, however, it could've used a little more condiments to make it more flavorful. Good service.

Wanted a rooftop dining experience for my birthday and selected this location at 8p for sunset. They texted me that my table was ready before the reservation time and that was great because I could watch the full sunset. I had the caprese and Focaccia which was delicious. I also had the chips with salsa and guacamole and the empanadas. I sent the empanadas back, the first bite was just dough. My waiter was nice enough and I truly enjoyed the view!

I don't have anything bad to say about this place. Me and my boyfriend had a date night here tonight. The food was delicious. My drink was refreshing and tasty. The service was great upon arrival. The hostess and bartender were friendly and attentive. I believe I booked my reservation two days ago and I requested a table with a nice view. We got a great table with the best view (everyone kept asking to come over and take a pic of the sunset because our spot was so nice). We arrived a little early and we got lucky that our table was available and ready for us. We both had a good time overall and would definitely come back.

First of all... SAHAR IS AMAZING. Loved her and her whole vibe. The other guy was super nice too but I didn't remember his name like I remembered her!! Get that girl a raise!! The drinks were amazing. Espresso martinis and we got the orders of tacos which I smashed before I could take a picture. Get the carnitas ones, sooooo good!!! I also got this whiskey drink and it was bomb.

Birdseye Rooftop is a cozy spot with beautiful ocean views--especially at sunset, which really makes the whole experience. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away without a reservation, and since we were just stopping in for a quick snack and drinks, we knew what we wanted immediately. Unfortunately, service was a bit hit or miss. It took about 15 minutes for a server to come over, and we noticed another table seated after us had already been greeted and had their drinks. We ended up flagging someone down, and they did apologize for the delay. On the positive side, our server went out of his way when we asked about Coke Zero. Although they didn't have it initially, he managed to find a bottle for us, which was a really thoughtful touch and appreciated. When the food arrived, we realized we hadn't been given side plates or silverware, and after asking, we were brought a dirty sharing plate, which was disappointing. That said, the food itself was very good--the empanadas were delicious, and the salad, while simple, hit the spot. Overall, the atmosphere and location are hard to beat, but the inconsistent service brings the experience down a bit. I'd probably return for the views and a drink, but hope they tighten things up on the service side.

This guy and his manager horrible customer service & he gave us the finger on our way out!! Horrible service!!!

Can't even give a review on the food because from the time we stepped in Chelsea, the manager and her staff was already looking at us like our kind is not welcome here they were totally rude and the waiter assigned to our table flipped us off and gave us the bird as we left!! Good thing we left when we felt their bad energy. We can't trust people like this making our food!!!! From the time we walked in instead of asking us how can we be helped as far as food we were being asked did we wanna stay. Entire vibe and their whole demeanor was very offputting we did not feel welcomed at all. Service HORRIBLE!!!!! Definitely prejudice vibes!!! Horrible service & i'm so glad I took on it since their vibes. I would never want somebody making my food that don't like me in their establishment. I just can't believe it's really happening again out here in LA JOLLA , It's just shocking when you see it in person but it's really happening. They don't want my kind at Birds Eye rooftop in LA Jolla. We had more people coming food thing we didn't spend 1 dollar!!!

Came here for happy hour to catch the sunset. Parking was the usual annoying situation you expect anywhere in DTLJ, but once you're up on the rooftop, the views definitely make it worth the hassle. They have some happy hour specials that include basic apps and $12 margaritas. We ordered chips and guac and a margarita each. The chips and guac were solid overall, though the guac could've used a bit more salt. The salsa, unfortunately, kind of sucked. The margaritas were very strong, but not in a good way--more like straight tequila than a balanced margarita. I enjoy a strong drink as much as the next person, but these were just not well-executed. That said, the view is really the star here. We came on a day with great visibility, and the sunset was beautiful enough to make up for the mid drinks. Definitely a spot you come to for the scenery more than the food or cocktails.

Quaint rooftop bar with great views of La Jolla. Small menu with variety of flavors and choices. Our table had the blackened salmon, pesto pasta and piccata. Brittany was attentive and knowledgeable. They offered a churro dessert for the birthday boy, it came with ice cream, fruit and chocolate sauce drizzled on top.

The atmosphere of the place is fun, they've got music playing and a nice view of the ocean. I enjoyed the food, everything I tried had a great taste. I was very happy with the service I got as well. We were taken care of by Alana. She recommended some tasty drinks and was attentive the whole time. Overall great experience:)

Great spot! We arrived post sunset - but I am sure the views must be spectacular! They had heaters put out for us. We had the entire place to ourself. Great bar and food was good. I enjoyed the cheese spread with nuts, calamari, Brussel sprouts and steak. The cocktails were amazing too - lot of depth in their taste. The servers were very kind and polite.

Great views in La Jolla. Stopped by for a quick drink and bite. The drinks are refreshing and well balanced. The carne asada fries are well seasoned and a big portion.

Only good part was the drinks and the view.

Stopped by the rooftop bar at our hotel and was met with neutral, uninterested service from the start. The host ignored my question about other tables, and our server had awkward banter when we mentioned a small discount from the front desk. Drinks were good, but service was slow -- our chicken sandwich and fries took 30-40 minutes while others who sat after us got their food first. By the time ours came, it was lukewarm, so we took it to go - which was also met with another sarcastic comment. The only friendly person was the girl refilling water, who was actually attentive and smiling. Not worth the price or the "15% off" that barely covered the $5 split plate fee. The view or drinks did not balance out the slow and off putting service - wouldn't return.

This is a great place for drinks, happy hour, group gatherings, and hangs. The drink drinks are amazing! I had the girl on prospect and that was incredibly refreshing. The shrimp ceviche was very tasty. The beef empanadas were good. Due to location and how wonderful the drinks are. It is a very busy place. So things did take some time which is understandable. Would love to go back and try some other drinks on their menu.

The place was lively, but luck was on our side: one perfect booth remained for the four of us sweet seekers. We settled in and immediately starting gabbing (versus checking out the menu). George came over to take our order. Without even glancing at the dessert menu (a bold move, I'll admit), I asked for one of each dessert to share--paired, of course, with a couple glasses of Scarpetta Rosé bubbles (okay so I glanced at te wine menu). Priorities . What arrived was equal parts surprise and delight. First, a charming little glass jar filled with lightly whipped crème fraîche and topped with salted caramel--simple, elegant, and absolutely delicious. And then... the "hamburger." Cue the table going completely silent. Naturally, we had questions. Our server walked us through this masterpiece from the bottom up: a golden caramel cake "bun," topped with a chocolate-coated ice cream "patty," a delicate mango gelée "cheese," and even "pickles" made from matcha cake. Finished with a second warm cake layer and a touch of garnish we were too excited to fully catch--because at that point, we were already diving in. The contrast of warm cake, cool ice cream, and rich chocolate was nothing short of fantastic. Playful, unexpected, and genuinely delicious--exactly the kind of dessert experience you hope to stumble upon. Thank you, The Whaling Bar, for the sweet surprises. We'll absolutely be back--next time for martinis, and I've already been told the duck meatballs are not to be missed.

Watching Chef Tara break down and prepare a massive 100+ pound bluefin tuna right on the dining floor was pure culinary theater. But the real highlight went far beyond the spectacle: my niece is an aspiring chef, and I brought her specifically to see a top-caliber female chef operating at the highest level of this industry. Representation matters, and seeing someone you identify with excel at this standard is powerful. What truly blew us away was Chef Tara's generosity. She took roughly 15 minutes out of her night to speak one-on-one with my niece, offering thoughtful guidance, mentorship, and encouragement. That level of world-class care extended to the entire team: Bryan, our server: Absolutely phenomenal--warm, attentive, and took the time to share great industry insights and advice with my niece throughout our meal.
