I played here in July on a Monday for $63. Course was in decent shape and the renovations and improvements were definitely noticeable. I would pay the $63 for the ocean breeze and good weather but not $80 on a weekday! I was going to book a couple of groups with my regular Monday group after the restaurant opens but non of my buddies is willing to pay that amount! I've played Troon courses before and this in no up to the Troon standards for sure... Troon needs to adjust the pricing to what the market will bear and consider a senior rate as well! Played 18 at shore cliffs today - had good fun. Nice challenging course with a variety of different holes. Keep in mind the course and clubhouse are undergoing a lot of construction. Given that, we paid around $50 for 18 and the course offers a good value at this price point. Greens are in good condition but you have to temper your expectations that the course will have some variability in its condition and you may be driving your cart through some construction areas and need to navigate some tricky areas between holes. On the whole though the staff was super friendly, the course was good fun and we left quite happy and pleased with the experience. I'd go back again, especially at this price point. A couple holes have been completely refurbed and look stellar - this will no doubt get better with time, but I also suspect the price will also move upward as it does. read more

I've just started playing here, about three times now in the past week or so and it's quickly becoming my favourite for the following reasons: - Staff - nothing but friendly staff. Pleasant marshals, front desk, cart guys and girls. - Price - you can't compete on this price. - Course - I'm new to golf but this has a beautiful range of holes - Pace - never had to wait nor had anyone wait on us. 18 in 4 hours with 3 of us, 3.5 hours with 2 of us. I fail to understand the 3 star rating, I could understand 4 but after reading several one star reviews I see a pattern. Seemingly, petulant customers who feel entitled enough that rules only apply to others and not themselves. Frankly, their reviews should be titled "We weren't allowed to break the rules" - some people?! Candidly, I do bring a cooler with water, a redbull and snacks (I'm particular about the water I drink and the snacks/fruit I eat). I openly take it on the course and I was never asked to show the contents or felt harassed in anyway. I will make the extra courteous effort to check with the staff if it's ok in future. Bottom line, if you were to factor in all but the one star reviews pertaining to "attempts at breaking an obvious rule" then the rating would probably be much more reflective of this establishment. 2 stars only because you can't beat $22 on a Saturday before twilight! Some of the holes were challenging. Some of the greens putter fast and true. However, the cart paths are in disrepair, hole locations are confusing, and the tunnels to get to certain holes looked and smelled like the sewers. The front desk and restaurant staff we very friendly. The course was in pretty bad shape today, however, I only saw the front nine (which used to be the back). I had to stop playing after one hole due to back pain. I rode along to watch my son and friend play then I returned my cart at the turn. I asked for a 9-hole voucher and the person in charge said no. before you book a tee time, know that much is under renovation and repair. read more

You will be expensively playing through a construction zone. There are some holes and some blocked off. Greens vary from gravel pit to mowed lawn in quality. There are sort of 19 holes on this course with all the construction. Prices have jacked way up to - prob to pay for all the construction. You're better off paying a couple bucks more/similar somewhere else. read more

2 stars because the staff is great and the course is in great shape. We play here every Friday, have seen the transformation through out the months. HOWEVER.. they flipped the course so you start on the previous back 9 which was clearly not designed to be played as the 1st. It takes us roughly 1 hour and 30 mins to play 4 holes... this has happened multiple times now. And the Marshal stated this has become a common complaint. Hopefully Management will listen to consumer feedback. Unfortunately we are moving on until if and when this gets resolved. read more

Do not go here, racial profiling is happening at this place. I had a tee-time reserved with friends and when I went to check in for my round. I was confronted by one of the managers if I was bringing outside alcohol. This is very unprofessional and I hope someone reaches out to make this right. I started playing Shorecliffs over 40 years ago. I always had it charm and you know what you were in for at a reasonable price. Now it has been completely revamped. New clubhouse, golf course greatly improved . The problem is this: $80 for weekday rates? Effectively doubled or more the rates. My understanding is the men's club and the ladies groups are leaving . Maybe Troon golf knows something we don't but I think the instant jump in greens fees are short sighted. read more

They charged my credit card twice, searched through our cart before we teed off, and yelled at us for parking a golf cart in the parking lot. I have never been to a "golf club" that does not allow carts in the parking lot. We hit this course today. Wish we would have done more research the course was under construction. There are very few signs and the course is very challenging to know which direction to go for the next hole. The majority of the employees are teenagers who provide very poor costumer service. We accidentally forgot something in the cart and when we came back for it, they said they checked every cart but they were only gone 5 minutes so there is no way they even checked 10 carts during that time. The manager approved for us to look and we are so glad we did because it was found within 5 carts of looking. I would not recommend this course for even a basic beginner. It was not worth the $36 round. read more

We hosted my son's engagement party at the clubhouse/restaurant last month. Chef Aron was great to work with and his menu recommendations were delicious and worked within our budget. Our guests loved the use of the golf simulators and beautiful outdoor patio. I would highly recommend shorecliffs for any event! read more

This course is a decent for practicing your game if you don't want to spend mucho bucks for a 18 holes. I spent what a a bucket of range balls cost at some of the higher end OC courses for a mid morning weekday tee time. It's not the most pristine facility but is probably one of the most reasonable courses in OC. I teed off 1/2 hour early on my own and finished the course in about 4 1/2 hours. Some of the fairways are narrow and the greens here are decent but small and will a accurate approach shot. I'd recommend this course for players watching their budgets or this would be a nice course for beginners or a practice round. read more

I am not a golfer, but here to review the new 501 Restaurant and Bar at Shorecliffs Golf Club. Just recently opened, I have eaten here several times in the past two months for breakfast and lunch. They will be opening soon for dinner as well. The location has a lovely, relaxing view of the course and water fountains. There is outdoor dining with overhead heaters and also a comfy fire pit seating area. The wait staff is very friendly and accomodating. The food is VERY good, fresh, with nice portions. Everything from the frittata, chef's benedict, the salads, with two of my favorites being the ahi sandwich and the smash burger. In talking with a few locals, we are in agreement that Chef Aron is certainly making a name for himself and the restaurant. I can't wait to see the dinner menu, which is already way above par for bkfst and lunch. There will be live music soon, and I have heard they are already booking 2024 weddings and other events. if you want a fast round of golf and don't mind overpaying this might be your spot. There's no one on the course because no one wants to pay $80-90 for this half refurbished course. And it's very short because they've truncated some holes as part of its painfully slow, ongoing makeover. This course is marginally better than when I used to pay $34 for a round, not that long ago. they claim the price is the norm for this area. Well the quality of the course isn't. Marshall was rude, course were unkept covered in feces, holes and uncut patches of grass. Said online you didn't have to buy a golf cart but were forced to on arrival stating were weren't allowed to play with out it. Over booked and falling apart definitely not coming again. read more

Played the course today and was very disappointed. Entire course was extremely wet, fairways were rough, Bloody Mary (which I paid $20 dollars for with tip) was horrible and staff (Except for gentleman working the counter) was really unprofessional. Don't mind paying the price for a round of golf but $72 per person was definitely not worth it. I did take in consideration it is under construction because I haven't played there in two years, and it wasn't so bad then (even paid less) so I may give it a couple more years before I try again. read more

I have been playing Shorecliffs golf course for a few years. They have really improved the course and although construction is still going on, I have had many pleasant golf games there. They keep changing things. We played 9 hole at twilight and now it's only by 8:30am. They charge a ride along fee (aka spectator fee) of $30 which is ridiculous!! No other course charges that... It's close to us so we wanted to love it, food is great at the restaurant although like others have said, service isn't great. This golf course needs to figure things out so we all know what to expect when we arrive on our next visit AND what course doesn't do twilight at twilight? read more

I had to laugh reading a lot of these reviews, especially the negative ones. First of all, full disclosure- I've played golf for forty years and have played many courses in the west - Pebble, Bandon, Torry Pines, PGA west, on and on. I've also played a lot of lesser tracks. The last time I played Shorecliffs was maybe twenty years ago w my nephew. A month ago I played w my daughter who is learning golf and plays pretty well. We had a great time. The greens are fast and true. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, and although there is construction going on it was still a legit round of golf. The course was under construction/maintenance so we're aren't rating the course based on the condition. The fairways could be watered a little bit more but overall not too bad for how much construction but we knew this going ahead. On one hole, there was a maintenance worker fixing the greens so this was not good etiquette. From when we teed off to when we were putting, this worker was not moving nor got out of the way. Also, we had rented a set of clubs for one of the members of our group who doesn't play much - so we told this member to not use the driver. We return the clubs and they had accused of us of losing the driver, when the set they gave us didn't come with one. They assured "we would never send a rental club set without a driver." Well come to think to it, the club sent a team member out to go locate the other two rental bags and Yep the driver was in a different bag. We never received an apology for the accusation as the man behind the desk was very condescending. Also, we were never offered a credit for receiving an incomplete set of clubs. To top off, they send their valet service home early so when we were given our keys back, we asked "Where's our car?" The man behind the desk said, "Well I don't know, it could be in the parking lot or it could be in the street?" REALLY?!? Not too bad of a course, but the service can be improved much better. I golfed here on 8/21/21 it was very unpleasant, 7 of the 18 holes we had to wait while the workers mowed/watered the greens while it was sprinkling outside. four years after my first visit in 2015, this course is just as terrible as it was back then. What a disaster. The property is rundown and neglected. I don't know how they have managed to stay in business. The rates are simply not worth the war zone of a course this is. I think they should take a lesson from Goat Hill Park - this place could be a really great place that could be a trendy place for younger golfers and to help usher in a new generation of players. But instead it remains locked in the past with its older (and dying) regular customers. This place won't survive unless they find a way to lure in fresh youth with better amenities, better grounds, and better rates. read more

Round was great the first 3-4 holes (course is under major construction and some holes are confusing where to tee off, shoot to, etc). Hole 5 is also completely gone so you get 17 holes total, which we originally were told we would have to play the back 9 twice? After the first few holes it got pretty wild. The greens keepers really don't give a hoot where they are or what you're doing. We stood on a par 3 waiting for the green to clear while the dude watered it, I'm not kidding, for like 10 minutes. THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND US, why is he driving in front of us to puddle the greens? We waived for him to move so we could hit and he literally just stared at us. My brother in law hit on right onto the green, he continued to literally water his ball AND CONTINUED TO WATER THE GREEN AS WE WERE PUTTING. And then of course as soon as we're done he drove to the next hole with us and started watering THE NEXT GREEN. What? They would be weed whacking and edging, don't stop while we drive by grass and rocks flying everywhere. There were 3 different times someone was sitting on the tee box 5ft behind us with a cop radio on FULL BLAST *chirp* talking *chirp* every 3 seconds. No attempt to turn it down, even in the back swings. They would sit there with gas engines just running 5ft away from you just running staring at you, talking on cellphones. To top all of this off, as a previous post mentioned, the marshals are fun police. Never say hi, wave, and then will literally pull up next to your group and just stare at you for 5 minutes while you're playing. They just wanted get someone in trouble no doubt. As my dad said, it was circus golf, and I've really never experienced anything like it, even at MUCH more ghetto courses and areas. Giving this a 2 star cause the course is pretty and there are some fun holes, hard to beat San Clemente weather, especially in the summertime. Definitely will be a while before I come back though, hopefully they will have a full course then as too. read more

This is NOT a 5 star review, I am posting a 5 star review because I am trying to give new ownership the benefit of the doubt during rebuild. I understand that renovations can be expensive and the company may be trying to offset that and create a new expectation with the pricing but it is misplaced. Half the greens are decent and half are crap. 75% of the fairways are garbage along with the fringe and rough. If you want to charge these prices the first thing you should have done is fix the quality of play. No one cares about your club house, putting greens or other amenities if the quality of play is terrible. Go back to $50 tee times for another year and you will make triple your tee time income. New carts are nice, not great, no gps and terribly slow pedal response time. I would probably give this 2 stars for the price. read more

Great location and nice course! We had a group of three and were looking for a course that allows 9 hole play. After calling, they told me you can't book 9, but if you go and there are open tee times, they allow you to pay and play only nine. Great price too at $30! The course is in good shape and was fun to play. Not a lot of water but the fairways are all fairly narrow. Smaller greens than I am used to but not a lot of hazards in general. They are doing construction so some holes were honestly hard to find. Hole 9 is actually where 10 was so that was a little weird. We actually asked for directions a few times so would be nice if they enhanced the signs and such with their current construction. We went on a Sunday morning and it was not overly busy which was so nice. We weren't rushed and could enjoy the hole course. If you are looking for a fun course, I would definitely shorecliffs! read more

I recently commented about the price being bad a few months ago when it was 72 but 90$ for this place is a crime, yeah cool new clubhouse and chipping spot doesn't excuse the fact that half the holes on the course are dog shit. They will lose a lot of business with these prices. read more
