Shortys are a bunch of SCAM ARTISTS!!!!! I purchased a condensor motor online from them for $300 to get it to Florida... i put the fan blade on it and realized that the shaft was seized up immediately! My wife emailed them to let them know the situation and they said we had to pay the shipping cost(30$) and there would be a 25% restocking fee. (70$) They denied us a refund because they could tell that I installed the fan blade.. how else was I supposed to know that the shaft was seized up?!,!? they refuse to work with us and were extremely rude in conversing with my wife. Need to beware of this company. If you order the wrong parts, then you are stuck with that item as they have a no returns policy. I my dcase made up excuses for not returning the item saying it was used, yet didn't test the motor. A certified technician came out to install the motor but didn't use it as he did triage on the unit first to find it was a control board which I ordered from Shortys, and fixed the issue. I had a technician come to the house and determined the draft inducer assembly needed to be replaced. The cost would be $714 and $196 for labor. I searched the part number and found Shorty's HVAC Supplies. I sent an email to Shorty's to make sure I had the correct part and to make sure there wasn't anything else I needed. I sent that on Saturday 12/21/2019, on Monday 12/23/2019 I received an email asking about the furnace product number. I sent that and I received a link to the proper parts. I am truly impressed! I got 3 quotes from local HVAC repairmen who wanted to charge me $500 for a new inducer motor plus labor. After reading up on the repair, I decided I could tackle it myself if I could find the parts for a reasonable price, but no one locally would sell me the part without installation. Thank god for having Shortys close to my home only 10 min drive. This winter in Indiana was the hardest we had for a long time and my Heater went off in one of the coldest night, i did some online search and found out that I need to replace a part. Had a outdoor unit compressor fan motor fail in my 19 year old Trane system during a heat wave. Had two options according to a local HVAC company that came out to take a look: Pay 1200 bucks for them to replace it as it required a GE OEM motor that was a grand alone by itself plus "other parts", or 8 grand for them to replace the entire outdoor unit. I chose another option, do my own homework and replace the broken compressor motor myself. I found Shortys online found the motor and capacitor I needed, and then contacted them by phone to verify, which was answered by a gentleman named Andy. After giving him the outdoor AC unit's serial number, he called back within a few minutes with the proper GE spec OEM motor and capacitor, and verified it was same one I found on their site online. The cost for the motor and the capacitor, including fedex express shipping (to Virginia) was, 320 bucks. That's of course much cheaper than 1200 bucks for a new motor to be installed by this local company or the 8 grand this local HVAC company was trying to upsell me for an entire new system. The part shipped literally within minutes after I made the purchase by phone, and had a tracking number in less than an hour later. The part arrived the next day. Sure enough, the motor was an exact fit, complete with the same colored wiring, not a cheap "universal" motor that required fabrication to work/attach to the old unit. The capacitor matched the specifications of the old one to the letters and numbers. 40 minutes later with a bit of sweat, using a basic, low budget tool set, wiring sleeves and zip-ties that cost an additional 5 bucks, and my smart phone to take pictures of the original wiring and fan set up, my AC was back up and running. Thank you Shortys and thanks Andy for your prompt and friendly service. You saved me nearly a grand and additional grief from my family having to live in a home that was 88 degrees in the middle of a heat wave. You have more than earned my future business, and thanks for looking out for the Do-It-Yourself folks that don't have the resources or desire to blow hundreds of additional dollars having someone else fix their HVAC for a 40 minute job. For those of you reading this, do not be intimidated by repairing a broke HVAC system. There are literally a library of videos and illustrated resources online that will walk you through troubleshooting HVAC problems, and most importantly, awesome companies like Shortys that can get you a part as quickly as overnight, no matter how ancient your HVAC system is. If a guy who spends his days working in a cubicle can fix his AC unit by himself in under 40 minutes using a 25 dollar tool set, you can too. This is the kind of business I like to deal with. After checking their web site for a part that I needed for my furnace (draft inducer) I called to check availability. The gentleman on the other end (very pleasant, I must add) asked me about my furnace model, and said, "Let me check on this and I'll call you back." He called back within 10 minutes and said they had it in stock. I jumped in the car and drove the 25 minutes out to them. They had it waiting for me. Didn't ask for a credit card to hold it. They just held it. Very nice people to do business with. As far as pricing goes, this part was right in the ballpark with others I've found online. I do a lot of shopping online, and Shortys HVAC Supplies is the best experience I have ever had. I live in Florida. My central AC stopped working. I walk around to the compressor on the side of the house, and it is making a horrible noise and the fan on top is not spinning. I stick a bread-knife in the grill and spin the fan. It spins fine. Ten seconds on the Internet and I find a YouTube that says this is likely due to a bad motor start/run capacitor on the fan. OK, I am an engineer, don't try this at home and don't blame Shortys if you kill yourself. I pull the panel, and yank both the fan capacitor and the compressor capacitor. The fan capacitor was swollen, a sure sign it was bad. I look at local stores, neither the big box nor the hardware chain carry these capacitors. I email the company that did a service for me a month ago, and they say they don't have the exact capacitor, but could cobble something in. No thanks. OK, I go online and search and search and search. Problem is neither the famous auction site nor that jungle retailer have the exact capacitor, a 5uF/25uF in a short can. There were other online retailers that would say they had the part, but the picture was wrong, or they said it would work, but did not mention it would not fit. The straps that hold the capacitors are meant for an exact size. Shortys was great. They had the old GE part number, the new Gentec part number and the correct picture. It was the exact same capacitor as in my 16-year-old Trane AC, with the same stamped terminal markings, "C," "HERM," and "FAN". The price was same as the lowest I could fine elsewhere. Best yet, Shortys HVAC gave free shipping. There was a competitor that had a similar price, but made you walk through the whole checkout before telling you they charged 15 bucks ground, and 45 bucks 2-day. Oh, and icing on the cake was that Shortys takes PayPal so you don't have to give your credit card out. So rather than just buy the fan capacitor, I also bought the compressor capacitor. But I was worried about slow shipping. Get this, I email Shortys HVAC on a Saturday night at 7:00PM on Thanksgiving weekend and ask about faster shipping, which was not an option on his checkout system. I get a response in 15 minutes. In fact, I sent emails to two different addresses on their website and Mike Short responded to both that night. He said he could ship 2-day, or use USPS flat-rate like I asked, whatever I wanted. Just call Monday morning and set it up. But he also said FedEx ground, his free shipping, would be there Wednesday. I doubted this, from using FedEx myself. But I had a portable AC unit to keep me a little cool, so I figured any time, even Friday, would be OK. I got a shipping confirmation with a tracking number at 9:30 Monday morning. The part came 10:00AM Wednesday, FedEx Home Delivery. Just like Shortys said. I had both capacitors installed and the AC unit working by 10:15AM. We usually buy our furnace filters at Shorty's and have had fast and efficient service. BUT this time we ordered the wrong size, an extremely costly mistake! Return postage for a box of five 20 x25 x5 filters is around $90, plus there's a restocking fee. I think this business needs more reviews. They don't have enough reviews. But then again, not all people would want to deal with HVAC and are comfortable letting someone who is licensed handle, diagnose, and repair HVAC problems. I respect that field and business is business regardless. I think my recent business with Shorty's was one of the better experiences I've ever had with aftermarket support for something in my house. Especially considering how the business of HVAC operates. I learned a lot about HVAC during my research for a refutable distributor of Carrier HVAC parts. The main thing was that there are companies that believe there is a need for the do-it-yourself homeowner or business owner who would like to shop for needed HVAC parts, instead of paying any amount of "price markup" sold by other distributors who insist that they must install everything (also at any variable HVAC specialist prices). Shorty's enabled me to put a fan motor in my furnace, which really was not as difficult to accomplish as many HVAC technicians made it out to be...it involved mostly switching off the power to the furnace and A/C in the circuit breaker, and plugging in color-coded wires to the module, then resetting the breaker and WHOOSH! The air comes on and the house starts cooling like it was before the other fan motor went bad. What helps also is that the parts sold by Shorty's is warranted by the company--be it Carrier, Trane, American Standard, etc.--for the part's original warranty period (at least a year on most parts from date of installation) which for me would have been as of today, August 8, 2012. All in all, cost of the fan motor I needed--which was the issue as diagnosed by at least three refutable HVAC technicians--totaled out at $553, for a fully warranted, X13 type variable speed motor, which Carrier makes specifically and is actually more expensive than a regular speed motor. Now consider any number of HVAC people I called to handle the problem, quoted me prices ranging from $700 - 1,500, based on them getting the same part (at different prices from Carrier depending on their reputation) and for labor to put the part on (their own price based on their assessed value for their work.) I hope that makes sense and I know I said a mouthful and provided a bit of lecture about the HVAC business operations, but basically, Shorty's provided me a warranted part at a good price to me, and I did it myself, and now I am happy that the problem with my A/C has been fixed--again, by me! read more
