We were visiting the 1000 islands area a couple of weekends ago and made a trip to Watertown. My family and I stopped in for lunch. The decor in the diner is filled with classic coca-cola memorbilla, from the junk box to the glasses we were served our drinks in. My sister ordered a plate of wings as an appetizer. When the plate arrived we were shocked to see the amount of sauce and number of wings. We got 12 huge wings drenched in the delicious honey mustard sauce. I ordered the Hot Turkey sandwich plate with mashed potatoes. I was disappointed that used turkey deli meat as the turkey in my sandwich. The sad part to my meal was the veggies, they were canned green beans that were an army green (not fresh at all)! I deemed them unedible. The rest of my family was happy with their meals. Nothing special, just standard diner grub. Meal came to $60 for the 4 of us with taxes and tip. Stop by Shorty's if you are in the Watertown area! read more

Awesome diner with breakfast all day. I got the French toast and bacon which was pretty good. My boyfriend got the sliders and French fries which was really good. The little jukebox on the table actually works! We put in a quarter, selected Proud Mary and thought it didn't work but once the song on the pc was over the song came on! I was pretty impressed with the decor. Service was pretty good--she came back several times to check on us. We had a burger, a wrap and shakes. The caesar wrap was especially tasty, though the dressing was laid on unevenly. Shakes were much better than your standard fast food restaurant shake. The bathroom was pretty clean. read more

I've ate at Shorty's several times in the past. It has typical small town diner fare. Their best fare is their breakfasts and their burgers and house salad. I've never had a problem with having fast service, short wait times and friendly waitstaff. The food I've gotten has always been generously seasoned and correctly cooked. While visiting family at Fort Drum we stopped by Shorty's Place. I had fried scallops which was poor. The scallops were greasy and cold the fries were also cold and greasy. The Coca Cola atmosphere was a bit over done. The waitress was not very cheerful and was nasty attitude like she did not to be at work that evening It's dinner that I should have expected average food quality and moderately priced. My husband, infant daughter, I went there for dinner one night. I had spaghetti and meatballs with a garden salad and my husband got a chicken parm. Both of them were very large portions. Found this place on yelp by searching for "diners" near my hotel since im here on business. Took me about 8 minutes to get to this place which was a bonus because I was starving. First though on pulling into parking lot was that it looked like a 5 & Diner classic Coca Cola themed cafe. Well once i entered Shortys and had visual confirmation of Coca Cola everything everywhere I was ready to sit down and plow through a tower of biscuits and gravy. Scoured the menu for a few minutes seated at the bar waiting for my coffee and came to the realization biscuits and gravy were not on the menu. Could this be? No b's and g? With waitress confirmation of that my backup plan was a breakfast bagel sandwhich. Everything was a la carte and decided out of spite since I was not going to get my biscuits and gravy fix that I wasnt going to order anything else. Sandwhich was good but nothing special. Wait staff was a bunch of ladies bickering at each other about nonsense. Since i was seated at the bar near the kitchen I was getting an earful of the Shortys old lady drama. Shorty's is a fun, inexpensive place to have breakfast or lunch. It has a nostalgic feel, with its old school diner facade and Coca Cola and tabletop jukeboxes inside. Waitresses are friendly and wait time reasonable. I had the lunch special, which was a tuna salad sandwich with tomato mac soup. (There were also chunks of hamburger in the soup-- a nice surprise!) Had breakfast here at noon. Ordered the "Big Platter" and was not disappointed. The home fries (red skin potatoes) are excellent and cooked just right. The french toast was soft and had a lot of flavor. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, thick, and also tasted amazing. The bacon was also cooked to perfection. Also of note was the maple syrup, very good. The wait time wasn't bad either, very fast. Friendly waitresses and hostess and plenty of parking space. The service was A+ no wait for a table and we got our drinks fast which was good because we needed our caffeine fix. The coffee was perfect and our server was on point. The reason for the three stars is the food just wasn't that good I really wished it was because I really wanted to give this place 5 stars for the staff and ambiance. I have been here twice now with my husband, but I probably won't be back. The service is fast and friendly, but the food is nothing special. I think the breakfast food is kind of pricey for what it is. I do like the feel of the diner -- it has a 1950's vibe with a jukebox in the front and mini jukeboxes on your table. Both times the service was fast and friendly. For mediocre breakfast food, I think a $25.00 check for two was a little on the expensive side. I prefer Cracker Barrel across the street. Though they do offer a military discount. read more

We had an unpleasant experience today. Our server and the other dining room staff were extremely rude/unfriendly. She was hostile and very impatient with us. There were excuses for most of our requests. The host and server were also talking from a distance about our table while giving us mean looks. Was excited to go because my husband mentioned they had good brunch. Got there about 1:55, didn't know they closed at two. The lady (server) who walked up to us was super rude, upon seeing us she said "um we close at 2." Our first trip to this local diner, and a very disappointing experience. In fact, if I could give this zero stars, I would. Overall, the biggest issue is the customer service. It's terrible. As a former manager of a business, I understand how important customer service is to your brand and to build relationships and gain repeat customers. From the first moment we walked in the door, we were treated like we were not important, and the duties the servers had, and their personal conversations, held higher value than us. We were seated, and it took at least 10 minutes before the server came to us to ask for our drink order. The diner was not busy, and there were plenty of staff, but they focused their time/energy on personal conversations behind the counter, which were loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear. Next, when our food was delivered, our server Julia brought it to the table with another server, and I kid you not, as they were standing over us at the table placing our food, they were bickering out loud. Not only was this in front of us and over our food, but there were other customers around. It was rude and unprofessional. At no point during the food delivery, or in the next 15 minutes, were we offered refills on our coffee, or checked on to see if we needed anything else. But then, the best part of this. We decide that we are done, having not been offered additional coffee, not liking our food (it was bleh), and being completely ignored, so we head to the front to pay. Julia, our server met us up there, and proceeded to run my card for the check. After watching her for several moments insert my card, remove it, insert it, remove it, I asked what was going on, and she said "I accidentally charged you the wrong amount because I didn't apply the military discount, so I need to refund and recharge." I asked for a copy of all the receipts, including the refund, just in case. She provided to me, but said that I wouldn't even see the charges on my account, because it was all fixed so fast. WRONG. As of right now, for our $25 breakfast (plus tip), I have $70 in charges debited from my bank account. A $50 charge, which I'm not even sure how that would happen since that's not the amount our bill was, and a second charge for $25. No refunds pending at this time. Which means, I still have to deal with this. I let them know how displeased we were, and she did ask what she did wrong, so I explained our issues. But no apology from her or the other woman at the counter. No attempt at making it better. Terrible customer service, and sub-par food. AND multiple incorrect charges to my bank account. We most certainly will not be back and will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Hostess lacked any hosting skills or politeness. Didnt greet us just stared as we walked in..we had to ask her to seat us. We tried 2 different tables and both were still sticky and dirty. Stopped here with the family today for breakfast. The parking lot looked pretty full but there was plenty of tables available and we were seated immediately. I ordered the breakfast platter, my wife wife got a ham and Swiss cheese omelet with a side of patty sausage, and my two toddlers split the kids meal #2 (a pancake and strip of bacon). All of the food was really good. My boys who are pretty picky are most of the pancake, and gobbled up the bacon plus most of my wife and I's sausage. This was our first time here. Overpriced and mediocre. This place gets it's business from looks alone. Everyone knows that in the Watertown area the best food comes from the most "slummy" places like Factory Street. I would easily recommend Mo's Place way before Shorty's. Calls itself a diner but does not serve breakfast with a platter made with hash browns or home fries. My breakfast eggs tasted like Wal-Mart eggs I make myself in the morning, and I could literally make better tastier bacon than these cooks. Mine was overcooked and burned. I also ordered the side of home fries, literally pointed to it on the menu and not only did the waitress forget, but then brought me corn beef hash instead, and said "well I thought you ordered that." Totally overpriced too, for the portion you get. The only people who visit this are the yuppies from the nearby church. Five stars based on this being a diner sort of restaurant. I can't count the amount of times we have been here and the food is always good. Not overly greasy, generally made from scratch, friendly service and nostalgically cute coco cola/ fifties red and white decor. I highly recommend the burger and fries, the breakfast burrito, the chicken parm, and the pie. My husband enjoys the spicy beef sandwiches, pancakes and omelets. My kids, who the staff is always kind to, enjoy the kids menu. It's right off of 81 for travelers and directly across from a gas station. We all love the bowl of homemade chips given to the table at lunch and dinner time. I would recommend giving this local favorite a try. read more

This place has really good food. But our waiter Ryan was very rude. First of all waited like 7 mins. Before he even came over to ask what we wanted for drinks Second there was 2 adults and 1 child and he served us our food and never gave my child a fork to eat with. We asked him for a fork and he said " OH you need an extra one " saying it in a very rude tone. Third he only came to our table one time to ask how our food was. And my husband asked him for our bill he stated he already gave it to us. He most certainly did not. And when he actually gave us the bill again very rude about it. Stopped in with a colleague for a spot of lunch after a long day of field work in the area and were taken by the retro Coca Cola decor (not an endorsement as I'm more of a Pepsi girl myself, but very quaint and adorable).
