Terrible Service (Would Not Recommend)…read more I went in there this morning. From the moment I walked in the owners stared me up and down, as if I had stolen from them before. Even though I was polite and said good morning, they didn't respond back. Instead I was met with a "what do you want gaze." After they packed my order, I paid and said thank you. Again they didn't respond, just got unwelcoming stench of an attitude and unwelcoming vibes from the woman owner. I won't lie, I didn't eat the food what I bought because they made me feel so uncomfortable. They packed my food in the back out of my view and my discernment kicked in. I thought to myself, if their terrible attitude is reflection of their food then it probably won't sit well in my stomach. Sometimes energy is everything you need know about a person. Such a pity because I would have loved to make them my doubles spot when I leave the laundromat every Saturday morning. Now they don't have to worry about ever seeing me again.

The cabbage, potato and channa has plenty going on without needing a carnivorous assist; I wonder if horseradish is a secret ingredient in the cabbage. I was luxurious and bought two doubles so I could try the pepper sauce and tamarind formulations, and also enjoyed the Solo sorrel soda.

First I tried the veggie doubles and it was so amazing delicious and yummy I completely devoured it so fast. It was so soft and flavorful and I loved the sweetness from the tamarind. Next I had the soya curry rice and beans, and while it didn't wow me the way the veggie doubles did, it was still really good. The soya was soft and chewy and the curry had a really nice flavor, but I'm curious to see how it compares to the stew version. I do wish there was more tamarind to get more sweetness like the doubles, but it's still good and flavorful nonetheless. The rice is fluffy and the cabbage gave the plate something refreshing. I also tried the currant roll and it's not my favorite pastry. It was a bit doughy, but it also had a sun blistered sweetness from the currents that cut through the pastry. It also had a slight glazed donut flavor without it actually being glazed. Enjoyed trying this but I would focus on their other dishes next time I come back.

When I'm craving roti but feeling too lazy to leave home, Suzy's Roti Parlour never lets me down…read more The veggie roti is my go-to order, with a delicious mix of perfectly stewed spinach, butternut squash, chickpeas, and soft curried potatoes. I always get it dhalpuri style with the grounded split pea filling between the layers of roti. I'm also a big fan of the doubles, with that soft flatbread and the curried chickpea mixture inside. The chicken doubles are also tasty. Get these with all the sauces, which add a hefty dose of flavor: tangy, a little sweet, and a little spicy. As for other items, my coconut curry beef roti had a lot of randomly tough or chewy bits, but the taste of the coconut milk curry is spot on. The curried mushroom patty was tasty but small and comparatively overpriced. I also tried their Trini holiday fruit cake (or black cake), which was again kinda tiny for the price, but it was dense, fruity, and quite good. I'm so thankful that this spot is within ordering distance.

Of course $20+ later I have current rolls, oxtail Roti and saltfish pie. Small interior, friendly staff and various carriben bakery items to choose from. Saltfish pie..basically similar to an empanada. Very spicy a bit salty but I thoroughly enjoyed. Oxtail Roti. He asked if I wanted spicy I said yes. However, at home ready to partake was not spicy at all. Oxtail, wasn't a fan of the taste. It didn't taste bad but there wasn't any wow factor. Also I think it has to do with the seasoning. Each island although we basically cook the same things the seasoning tend to differ. This was very apparent I think this was a trini spot. Would I get it again, probably not, but I am open to try others like the shrimp and definitely the saltfish pie Currant Roll: sorry but Allan's is still the top. But if I can't get to Allan's Royal is good alternative. Moist , flaky not overly sweet. It was enjoyable. I would return to try other options.
