I used to love this place, but I need to update my review. The last few visits have been…read moreconsistently disappointing. The staff have been rude and seem bothered every time I come through. Today was especially uncomfortable. The barista (beanie, vest and braided hair) was unfriendly, visibly annoyed, and not helpful when I asked for a recommendation. I always ask for light ice because my drink often sits at my desk while I'm interrupted at work, and I don't want it watered down before I can enjoy it. Despite clearly requesting light ice, my drink came back nearly ¾ full of ice. I politely asked if some of the ice could be removed, explaining why. The barista rolled her eyes, and the other employees working this morning laughed and made comments. She refused to come back to the window and instead handed my order to another employee (white sweatshirt with hair pulled back), who shoved my breakfast out the window with a grimace. As someone who has been a barista for over 20 years, this level of behavior is unacceptable. I was polite, clear, and reasonable. Ordering a lotus with light ice is not a difficult request. If interacting with customers or accommodating simple preferences is an issue, this may not be the right job.

And before the business owner responds, you already responded once that you have an automatic setting to steam the milk and check it often. And that is the problem. Burned milk screws up coffee, and I can get that level of attention from a machine. However, this newer location is a pleasant surprise. The coffee just tastes better here. And the employees are really upbeat, friendly, and efficient. Maybe all the other locations should send their folks here to train to make the coffee better. This location is always very clean, plus they ditched the red phone booth motif which I always thought was too gimmicky. Only reason I am giving four stars is they are too expensive. Everything else about this location is done right, though, and should be copied throughout the corporation.

The Garden is swiftly becoming the new pub (caffeine a gleeful swap for alcohol in this case) here in the southwestern Valley. My husband and I indulge in fresh coffee and tea drink flavors, healthy and filling breakfasts, and yummy desserts-- and every single time I see people I know and love just "bumping into" more regularly. The sweethearted staff always puts up with my need for extra help in ordering (I have a sugar allergy, which can make getting to try a seasonal drink tricky-- but they do their best to make it work for me!). The business supports an incredible cause, which also serves to strengthen and help our immediate community. They're now just egg, cheese, and chorizo with pickled onions. No one mentioned that they were no longer vegetarian or that the recipe had changed so drastically. As someone who doesn't eat meat, I had no choice but to throw them away, so I ended up wasting $20 on a breakfast I couldn't even eat. I'm honestly really disappointed. I understand menus evolve, but when a longtime menu staple changes this much, especially from vegetarian to meat, it should be communicated clearly when ordering or at least noted prominently on the menu. Beyond that, the new version just doesn't justify the price anymore. It feels like a completely different product, and unfortunately not for the better. This isn't meant to be a harsh review because I've loved Ladder Coffee for years. These tacos were genuinely one of my favorite breakfasts in Spokane, which is why this was so disappointing. I just wish the change had been communicated. Going from a vegetarian taco loaded with fresh ingredients to a chorizo taco is a huge difference, and I would've ordered something else had I known.
