In the couple of weeks I've been volunteering, I've been impressed with the staff. They work so hard and are so helpful to anyone who comes in. They genuinely care about the work they do and every single fur ball they meet. The place is so clean without having that whole medicinal and cold vibe you see in some shelters. The cats are generally happy and have all sorts of enrichment opportunities at their disposal. Five Acres also does a ton of services for the community. I showed interest in a dog they had for adoption. I filled out and submitted the form online. I had…read moreconfirmation from landowner stating that it was okay for me to have a pet. I received an email stating that I had been approved. This all happened early in the week. Today (Saturday) I drove all the way in from the next county to meet the animal that I had been approved for and some attendant came out and wouldn't even let me meet the dog because he decided that day based on the same information on the application that I wasn't a "good fit". They also could have let me know this before hand and saved me the gas and time. I guess I should have gone on a different day, maybe a different attendant would have actually wanted TWIX to find a great home. VERY DISAPPOINTED. DO NOT RECCOMEND.

They seemed overworked and just not happy to see us or a big Golden-doodle. They then said that my dog's ears would have to be shaved due to mats after about two seconds of feeling them. Don't get me wrong, there were some mats but not excessive to the point of shaving. Our pup has thick beautiful hair and there was no thorough inspection done. She literally felt them for 5 seconds and said we have to shave them. #lazy We are extremely busy and don't always do a good job of brushing daily, but we do try. My wife left her there anyway but then we decided no we are not shaving her ears. So we went back to pick her up. The associate then treated my wife rudely asking well what are you going to do. She simply said I'll use a special brush and comb to fix her ears and they asked are you taking her somewhere else. My wife said yes we were taking her somewhere else. At that point they said they could do that but it would cost more and we have to pay up front. No thank you at this point. They should have inspected more closely, wanted to put in the effort to keep my dog sexy and offered that to begin with. And by the way, we were willing to pay extra for the help. We get it. But to simply say we have to shave them, no. My wife came home and spent about 30 minutes and got all mats out and she is now ready to get a wash. All I want out of a groomer is one that is happy to see us, one we can trust to make our pups look great and they try to make the dogs feel comfortable and pampered. That was not the vibe today and we will have to look for a new groomer down the road. Maybe it was due to it being late on a Friday but if that's the case they need to do a better job at booking the appointments.

We continued to pay with cash most of the time and tipped accordingly. A Reasonable exchange, right? On September 19, 2024, I picked up our dog and was charged $128.00 for bath and groom. When asked to check the charge, I was informed that there was a $50 charge added to my bill because of a missed appointment. The extra Charge was the "thanks" we received for being loyal, cash-paying, and tipping customers. We had never missed an appointment in over 8 years. Is this any way to treat long-term customers? I could understand if we were repeat offenders, received warnings in the past, or even had difficult dogs. I choose not to do business with any business that is not reasonable and appreciative of my business. Is "Yips and Yaps" grown too big to care? You decide for yourself when it happens to you.
