Unfortunately, another interaction left a bad impression. After our meal, I politely asked for a piece of foil to cover my leftover food. The guy employee said "okay," so I assumed he understood my request. A moment later, he responded with, "What are you talking about?" which caught me off guard. I had simply asked for some foil. He eventually gave me a foil container instead, which wasn't a big deal, but the attitude and confusion made the interaction feel unnecessarily unpleasant. The issue wasn't the container it was the way the situation was handled. Good customer service goes a long way, especially at a local restaurant. Almost two weeks into our Hawaii vacation and I had to have some Mexican food. The options on the North Shore are food trucks or North Shore Tacos, which is a sit down restaurant but not with waiter service (you order at the cash register and they bring your food out). Before ordering, I asked some questions about the preparation and it quickly became clear that their level of knowledge was not what I was used to in Texas--picadillo beef, chicken Tinga--were foreign concepts. Nonetheless, we forged ahead. I got a shredded chicken burrito. The size was good, it was packed with chicken and black beans, and it comes with small sides of guac, sour cream, and pico. There is also a very spicy, but flavorful, green sauce that I liked a lot. Overall, the burrito exceeded expectations and I enjoyed it. Filled me up too. The wife had shrimp quesadillas and really liked them. The shrimp were fresh and had not fishy smell or flavor. This dish also came rice and beans as well as small sides of guac, sour cream, pico, and green sauce. The kid ordered the kid's chicken taco with rice and beans. It was a soft tortilla with lettuce and tomato. The chicken portion was generous and it was a good taco. The kid also had the pineapple tiki which she had been wanting for days. It was very good and she was happy. I got a shot of Don Julio anejo on the side so I was happy. Very reasonable at $13. The ambience is fine. Seating is all outdoors--a converted garage into a covered seating area. The main problem was very aggressive flies who wanted our food as much as we did. I guess they have good taste. Overall, we all were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and we hope to be able to return before our departure. read more

I usually love it here! --but the fact that I can hear them talking negatively about fellow coworkers, complaining about "last minute orders" even though I ordered two hours before closing time (7pm), and food made rushed, it's very unprofessional. The pregnant woman took my order and she also carried much attitude, but I'm pregnant also so I can understand why she still could've handled her service skills better, along with her coworker that brought it to the window that was a Caucasian dirty-blonde girl. If you don't like where you work, don't work there! Do what you love girl, because I do and I'm so happy! The 1 star goes to the young boy who came and asked if I have been helped. On Vaca to Ohau, driving down the 83 and found this place by chance cause the group was getting hangry...and we saw this place named North Shore Tacos. Well..the taco fan wanted to stop in..not my choice in Hawaii but.. Ordered the chicken quesadilla plate to split with..you know who... Food was average and what I would expect back home so nothing stop the presses to write home about. They must make a special 3/4 circle tortilla cause there were only 3 pieces in the basket, plus corn tortilla chips (stale) and half of a half, scoop of ice-cream sized guacamole, pico de gallo, sourcream..we specifically said No Sour cream. Oh and the hot sauce was offered in a tiny container with like 1 or 2 squirts of chili sauce . Our partner couple ordered 3 $8.00 tacos so that was about $40 with a drink, per each. They were flour tortillas and not corn but I guess either works. Service was very little if no interaction with the exception of placing the order and it being brought to the table..sticky table. So in conclusion it was about what to expect for eating in Hawaii. But not notable. It's kind of noisy with it being located right next to the hyway or roadway, plus over head music going. Food was ok, service is horrible. I asked for everything to be put on the side. I did not want the items that came with it. Allergic to avocados, the sauce and guac spilled all over my meal. Wet burrito 4/5 - we enjoyed this! We got it with the sweet pork and it was a good flavor balance with all the starchy ingredients. It was a bit smaller than we were expecting. My experience: right off the bad the vibes were off. The dude that took my order (an older man with a grey beard) he was so rude and seemed annoyed that we were in the restaurant trying to order food. Whenever we asked a question like if they have soft drinks (the machine is not visible from the ordering counter) he looked at us like we were dumb and said "Yeah". The food is okay can be compared to like cafe rio or costa vida. Food came out fast but the rude service was a turn off. What made me want to eat here:: I have been wanting to try this place for a while since I've heard extreme split views on the reviews. Half are really great and half are really bad. The big complaint I've heard is "it's hard to do Mexican food on the island" and I think that's a problem of expectations. When this place first opened, it was amazing and that's saying a lot coming from someone who is Hawaiian Puerto Rican and I love authentic Hispanic food. But the last time I went there, there was I think a college girl who took my order who had the worst attitude and then while I was waiting for my food, she came out to wipe the tables which there was no one there so I don't know. But as she walked past my chair, she like shoved it in while I was still sitting in it and then was like laughing. And to top it off when I got my food, it tasted so watery the sauce had no flavor. Went here while on vacation based on a recommendation from a friend. We drove about 45 minutes up from Waikiki to have lunch there on the day we left. It's a small unassuming place with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was helpful with the menu. There are many options from nachos to burritos to tacos. Shrimp, Beef, Steak, Pork and Chicken are available. They also have black or pinto beans. My wife and I got the nachos bowl she got the chicken and I the shrimp. She also got a pork taco as well. The nacho bowls were okay. It was about what you would expect. The pork taco was very good though wished we had of went that route instead. An average place for something different. One of my favorite spots on the North Shore is North Shore Tacos. The burrito was massive. Got a pork and black bean burrito, comes with melted cheese on top, the signature sauce, guacamole, Pico, and sour cream. So delightful. Similar in style to a Qdoba or Chipotle burrito, but with its own twist. The sauce is tangy and sweet, yet so good. 5/5 Fish tacos were tasty, but I wish the fish was fried (personal opinion). Came with chips and guacamole. 3.5/5 Their guacamole by the way is chunky and pulpy, but in a good way! 5/5 The open seating area with the breeze flowing through hits just right. I love fish tacos so I had to try this place since we were staying close by for the weekend. I ordered one fish taco ($8) and a side of rice ($3). The taco was very small and basic. The best part of the taco was the sauce, the fish tasted too fishy for me. It's small sautéed pieces of fish topped with lettuce and tomatoes...I also ordered a side of rice. While it's 2/5 stars the additional star is for the plentiful seating as well as large windows that open up for air flow, the food did not live up to its name whatsoever. If you have the nerve to charge $24 for 2 Fish Tacos and a Chicken Taco Salad, you should at least make them taste good. Here's some areas that we found disappointing: the flour tortillas were extremely low quality, either store bought or processed or both. For $24 I was expecting higher quality. The Fish Tacos were drowned in a sauce that seemed like a failed attempt to mask flavorless fish. The Taco Salad/Sunset Salad had romaine lettuce, chicken, cheese and dressing on the side which did not stand out at all ($12-$13 for ingredients that may have cost less than $4-$5). My advice to the restaurant is to either step up the quality or lower the prices. Hard to say I could recommend this place to others. read more

Best fish tacos! Worth the drive! Located across sharks cove, area is a bit congested but manageable. Option to have beans and rice instead of chips. 2 choices of salsa, regular and pineapple. This time around, the fish was a bit more fishy tasting than I would have liked but still good. The place was clean, not too many customers here on a Sunday. Parking was easy. Order at the counter and they give you a number. It was kind of weird to walk in and not be greeted by anyone despite there being 1 worker sweeping and 1 working the front. We walked in and the only other customers walked out. First issue is the prices online and the price at the register are different. I get it, prices are going up but change the signage. We ordered the fish tacos times 2, chips and salsa and 2 drinks. Total was 54 bucks, which is kind of high for 4 tacos, rice beans. The tomato salsa was bland, nothing fancy. The pineapple salsa was by far the best thing here. The Chips were crunchy and tasted fresh. The fish tacos were good, not amazing. No cabbage on them but a good sauce. The fish portions barely covered the taco which was fine but for the price I'd hope for more. The rice was fluffy and black beans were good. The wife said the pinto beans were too salty to eat.
