One of my favorite beaches on the North Shore. Great for snorkeling. Nice shade trees if you don't want to spend the day in the sun.

Super long wait (35 minutes from ordering to getting food) and rather expensive compared to other food trucks in the area.

There is an upstairs seating area that must provide some exceptional views, but it was closed during our visit. Our lunch was easily 5-star. We began with the Spicy Ahi Wontons. Fresh ahi with shallots, scallions, tobiko (Japanese caviar), and cabbage. This App was extremely complex with a hint of spice. Truly wonderful! For our mains we ordered the grilled mahi mahi and fish and chips. My mahi mahi was grilled to a moist perfection, and the brown butter sauce could have overwhelmed the fish, so I went light on the sauce. Their fish n' chips are not your traditional Irish bar offering. The fish was gently battered with panko and fried just right. Their homemade tarter sauce was absolutely delicious. They have a very interesting craft cocktail menu. My Ku'Ula-Kai Mai Tai was on point and perfectly balanced - sweet and sour. Plus 1's Aloalo Fizz reminded her of a Paloma, only made with vodka with a tropical twist. Service was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu and ingredients. We really appreciated the chill environment, beautiful view, and the welcoming ocean breeze. Pro tip: After dinner, head downtown to walk off your lunch/dinner and check out all the shops. Dessert? If you enjoy waiting in a long line, then the famous shaved ice shop is located there (IYKYK).

I was hoping they'd have it that day, and luckily when I walked in, hamachi was listed as a special. I was really excited to try it. The employee who took my order didn't seem very enthusiastic, but that didn't bother me too much since I figured good food matters more. However, when it came time to pay, I noticed the bowl clearly had shoyu ahi instead of hamachi. I politely mentioned that I had ordered the hamachi, and she responded that I had said ahi. I told her it was okay and that I'd keep it, since I didn't want a small business to have to remake a dish over a simple misunderstanding. She asked if I wanted it to remade and I said no it's fine. What disappointed me was that even after I said it was fine and wasn't asking for it to be remade, she continued insisting that I had ordered ahi multiple times. I knew what I ordered because I specifically came in hoping to try the hamachi after seeing it online. I stayed polite throughout the interaction and wasn't rude about it at all, but the attitude during the exchange really turned me off from the experience. It's unfortunate because the food itself was actually pretty decent.

We actually lucked out and grabbed seats at the bar first, which worked out perfectly. We had a couple of drinks, and shortly after, they moved us to an outdoor dining table. Honestly, the timing couldn't have been better -- the ambiance outside with the weather was amazing. Service was super quick, even as the restaurant filled up insanely fast (seriously, it got packed almost immediately). As always, we went for the prime rib -- and it did not disappoint. The portion was huge and easily shareable. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were sweet, crispy, and paired perfectly with this super umami, flavorful mayo-based dipping sauce. For dessert... wow. If you love anything with an Oreo crust and coffee ice cream, you need to try it. I'm still thinking about it. Tip: Get there right when they open -- or even a little before -- because the place fills up fast and parking is pretty limited.

We got there really early before the opened and we were second in line. We shared a plate of their scampi with a side of their hot sauce. I learned this from the last time because as you peel the shrimp, dipping it into their hot sauce is the move. Going the other way around was way messier. People say their rice is mushy, but that wasn't the case today. Honestly, if I could, I'd skip the rice and go all mac salad. The mac salad was pretty tasty and perfect to break up all the garlic. While I've been here multiple times, I do find it to be good. Would I wait in a long line for it though, probably not. It's a spot I'd classify as a tourist trap, but at least the food backs it up. I think in comparison to what I get in California, it's a few steps above what we get on the mainland. I think if you are planning on getting here, do it early to avoid the rushes.

Once spots started opening up, we paid the $2 parking fee and joined the lines. Heads up, the long line on the right is usually for pickup, while the shorter line on the left is for ordering. We went with the famous Shrimp Scampi along with a side of mac salad. Shrimp Scampi (4/5): Easily lived up to the hype. The shrimp were juicy and easy to peel, and each bite was loaded with buttery lemon flavor and tons of crispy garlic. The rice soaked up the sauce really well, though there was honestly so much butter and oil leftover afterward that it pooled at the bottom of the plate. Still incredibly flavorful overall. Mac Salad (4/5): Creamy without feeling too heavy and generously portioned. A solid side that balanced out the richness of the shrimp. Bathrooms are located upstairs near the gift shop, and there's also a washing sink near the exit, which definitely comes in handy after peeling shrimp. Overall, a fun and iconic North Shore stop that absolutely feels worth trying at least once. Glad we checked it out to see if it lived up to the hype.

They make them in a unique way, pressing the dough on a waffle iron so the outside comes out crispy and crunchy while the inside stays chewy. The four-pack is the way to go--plenty for one person and shareable for two, but I wouldn't try splitting it beyond that because you'll definitely want more than one for yourself. I've also tried the coxinha and the ham and cheese pastel, which were good, though not as much of a standout as the pao de queijo. Everything is served very fresh, so fresh in fact that I burned my mouth on the pastel because of the steam pocket inside, so it's worth letting things cool a little before biting in. Seating is all outdoors at picnic tables with umbrellas, and while there's usually space available, you might need to share a table if it's busy. There's no cooling, so it can get hot during the day even with the shade. Parking is on the street out front. I've never had trouble finding a spot, but pulling in and out can be tricky if there's traffic going by. Overall I'd give Crispy Grindz 4 stars. The pao de queijo alone makes it worth stopping for, while the other items I tried were good but not the best I've had. I haven't tried the bowls or other menu items, so I can't comment on those, but if you're in the area the pao de queijo is something I definitely recommend.
