Everything about this experience was 5 stars. (Well, except the wait for a table lol). The service was amazing, the food was even better! We wanted to order the claws and strips appetizer but they were out of crab claws. We got the gator bites instead and they were so tender and juicy! Loved. The charbroiled oysters were good - I only wish they were more buttery and cheesy. It was a smidge dry. The raw oysters were clean and yummy. For our entree we shared the catfish topped with crawfish étouffée. IMO, for the cost, the portion was quite small. With all the food we ordered, we were full, but still the portion was a lot smaller than typically served at the price stated. The bread pudding. Y'all. Last night we had a great dinner at Shucks. The grilled oysters were excellent,we shared 6 which worked well since they were hugh. I ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer which was so rich I could barely finish. Wife had the shrimp etouffee which I tasted and it was outstanding. I had a cold beer and wife had a margarita. Quite disappointed or may just picked the wrong dishes. Crab au gratin was super delicious but is missing the more crab. The flavor was spot on but could use some crab meat. The shrimps and grits are delicious although I had better. The Bloody Mary is awesome. The staff is also great. read more

I have to admit that I drove about 40 minutes to meet up with my extended family at Shucks. Was it worth it? Yes ---very much so! I like the unassuming attitude that Shucks has which can best be described as - casual dining. When I showed up around 6:30 there was a bit of a wait although luckily my family had gotten a table already. Show up early! For appetizers, we had the fried catfish, crawfish and little shrimp. They were really fresh and crunchy. You must order the oysters on the half shell if you are into those things. There's a shucking room in the back where you can watch the shuckers. For my entrée, I got the grilled seafood combo. The catfish was amazing - so tender and flavorful. I would however skip the shrimp and oysters. I was expecting large oysters like the appetizer but was disappointed after I ate the first few and the bowl was filled with baby oysters that were dripping in sauce/blackened. The bread pudding was good but nothing mind blowing. A little on the small side. Lastly, service was fine for how packed the place was. We're vacationing with my wife's two sisters a their husbands celibrating birthdays and their anniversary. We were seated very quickly and drink order was taken and quickly delivered, ask about appetizers and ordered cups of gumbo , it was a dark rich roo and the seafood gumbo had it all fresh okra , shrimp, oysters,fish and crab a 9 rating on the gumbo (had some crab shell in it (some say you know it's fresh) I prefer without. Oysters on 1/2 shell were excellent, so I ordered fried too. All plates crab cakes , oyster stew, were very good. Server said everything is freshly prepared, but will serve asap. I has 1/2 a dozen grilled.oysters and a shrimp cocktail ok. I had been looking to boiled shrimp but they did not have. My wife has a baked red fish that was out if this world. I've have always ordered the Candy oysters and shrimp remoulade appetizer. Candy oyster grilled with a splash of steens syrup and fresh bread for dipping . Amazing. We love coming to South Louisiana to eat, enjoy the people and the history. Shucks has been on our dining list for years. We made our first dinner on this trip at Shucks. It is a simple interior but always clean. This is the only time we've been disappointed in our meals. I ordered seafood gumbo & onion rings to start. My husband got a dozen oysters. The oysters were good according to him. I was disappointed in the gumbo. It was mostly a nondescript roux with a few small shrimp. The shrimp texture was off-not a good gulf coast flavor. No other seafood was in the gumbo. Onion rings were pretty good. After the starters my husband ordered a shrimp and oyster po boy. The sandwich came without oysters. I ordered the shrimp patty sandwich with the sauce on the side. The sandwich didn't have the sauce on the side. We brought the missing items to the attention of the wait staff. She went to the kitchen to get both items. She brought the oysters to add to the sandwich and forgot the sauce. Had to ask for it again. My sandwich was pretty good once I got the sauce. My sweet potato fries were tepid in temperature at best. My husband said his French bread for his sandwich was stale and tough. He did say the accompanying potato salad was very good. A high note was the very cold beer with the chilled glasses. We had planned on going at least twice, that's not happening. Sad. read more

All choices were great, but we really loved the ones with garlic and cheese, and spinach! We had the dinner salads- nothing special here, but no complaints. My wife had the grilled shrimp with sweet potato fries. This was excellent. I had the crab cakes and onion rings. The two cake portion was too big for me to finish, and I took one home. They were excellent! All of our orders came to the table hot out of the kitchen. Service was prompt, and our server was very attentive.
