Well I have to say this is a big step up from SoCal magic. It makes them look like children. Which Paul's personality kind of is at SoCal magic. Anyways, the staff for the most part is great. Matt the owner has good people skills however he should spend some time training his staff. I know it's magic the gathering but what is holding this industry back is not just wizards pathetic marketing skills but shops being untrained and to easy to become a business. It's essentially a franchise of wizards and I wish they would make guidelines. Blaze was nice one of the staff but figures as I find out he is college educated. Mike the guy that helped me a few days ago has no people skills. Seems knowledgeable but you guys should keep him in the back room running the numbers. Not people. The selection and tournaments are amazing but come on. Why does every MTG shop have such untrained staff. Create a training program, grow it into a business. Set up SMART goals for the business and provide evaluations so your staff knows what they do well and where they can improve. You want MTG to grow. Either fix the small shops lack of uniformity and business savy or at least fix yours. Implement some system for Christ sake. I run 9 hotels across the west coast. At least get a consultant for a few hundred. God forbid SoCal magic did. They would probably be told to shut down and declare bankruptcy. Tax evasion will catch up to them. read more

I have been going to shuffle and cut on and off for a few years now. Never really had issues until last night. Bringing in a stack of older cards I wanted to sell. I did my own research to see the market value and the buylist market value. I follow a lot of Magic the Gathering personalities on YouTube and listen to what they say about card condition. So I know the condition of the cards I have and I compare the prices of the market value to the condition that I believe my cards are in. A couple of the cards where in moderate play condition, but the rest were lightly played. I took a lot of that into consideration when evaluating the buylist market value that would have been fair for me to receive. Instead of working with me on the price, the clerk behind the counter was taking cards that should have been valued at $15, where I would get $10 and putting them in the 2 + $3 spots on the red mat. What tipped me off was after I took those cards back and said I was not going to sell for those prices I had asked about the foil Mythic from Throne of Eldraine that was also in the bunch. It was on TCGplayer for $17 at market price and $11 in change at buylist market price. He originally offered $8 but I told him I knew the fair price. I was requesting and told him I would only accept $10. Without even a blank he said $10 is fine. So he was aware that he was low-balling me. After some thought I realized that for all the other cards I had I was being low-balled. That is a very sleazy thing to do to a customer. I may be one less customer in the future, but I am never going back there again. Who knows how many other patrons have been taken advantage of in the past. This is a day and age where are brick-and-mortar locations do need to compete with online retailers. And giving the excuse of overhead is not acceptable as online retailers also have rent and utilities to pay. And many of the online retailers also have a brick-and-mortar location, as I have been to shops that have a TCGplayer account that they sell from. Let this be a lesson to anyone who goes there to make sure you do your research on what the value of what you have before going to sell to them. read more

Full disclosure: I haven't been here to the actual store just yet(it's a far trip for me to play), but I go to Frank and Son's collectible show every few weeks where they have a GIANT corner booth. These guys really helped me get in to the commander format for Magic: The Gathering! As a player just coming in to the scene they really helped me thin out my deck and help me focus it towards a goal. Their knowledge of it all is insane! I'm hoping to make it out to the store on tabletop day this weekend. Shuffle and Cut is THE business to go to for all your MTG needs! Joey is the man you want to see! Have been going here for more then a year. Great atmosphere here. Employees are eager and knowledgeable. They are willing to chit hat with you about certain games if your new. They have demo games you can play at your leisure and have a great section in the back of the shop with plenty of tables and space to play games. So, all and all, I REALLY wanted to like this store. It seems to have everything I could want as far as MTG, D&D, Boardgames in general, a huge space to play... But I don't believe I will be walking into this store again. Here is my story. I walk in, trying to purchase a list of single MTG cards, from what I gathered from their website, they had a very large selection and I wanted a particular commander deck. The gentlemen at the front asked me to read off the cards from my list so he could look up inventory and price, and we did this for about 10 mins. They had most of the cards I was looking for, I was overall pleased about finding this new card shop. It wasn't until the end where I said "Thank you so much for your help, I understand this can be tedious" where as to the gentlemen's reply was.. "To be honest, I hate it when people bring in Budget Deck Lists into the store" ....Are you kidding me? You have a customer who brings in a list of cards, which you are in the business of selling. And as soon as that sale is about to happen, you insult the customer by saying you personally hate it when people bring in a list of cards to buy?? Why would this guy even want to work there if he personally doesn't like to look up single cards for people to buy?? Overall, just a flat fail of a customer service experience. Don't think I'm coming back. If you are looking for specific MTG cards, or just decent customer service, look elsewhere my friends. read more

If you're looking for a board game, they have a good sized library of board games for you to check out and play for yourself in the back room as well as new, unopened games for you to purchase and take home. My husband found this game store online, so we headed out to check it out. We couldn't be more excited to find this game store. We have recently gotten into the board game hobby, and this store did not disappoint. We were impressed with the selection of games available to buy, the demo games available to try out, but most of all the knowledge and friendliness of the person working. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name. I blame that on having a newborn. Speaking of which, they were also very accommodating when my baby needed to be fed. The gentleman was very kind, and understanding. We wish we lived closer to this store, but that might be a good thing because then we would be spending a lot more money there. Shop was nice and there was a great selection of products. Giving a 2 star review for my experience with purchasing singles. I asked for a single card and was charged the near mint price before I had a chance to look at it. I expected a near mint, and received a card that was moderately played. I payed the lightly played price since I was not able to find the card anywhere else. I probably wouldn't recommend anyone to buy singles there. Anything else I would say go for it. I payed in cash and they asked me to take store credit which I declined and asked for my cash back. I was recommended this store and I drove half an hour to pick up this card. I went here for the first time for international tabletop day and was so impressed by the staff and how they managed their store. It was clean, well lit, didn't smell. They had a fantastic selection of games to purchase as well as a large demo room where you can try games before you buy them. As well as a very large gaming space, in which to play, which is a huge plus! The staff were professional and incredibly friendly. They worked so hard during tabletop day making sure everything ran smoothly. A very heart felt thank you to the employees for such terrific work. Found this place by accident. I was looking for a place that sold Board games (in particular Pathfinder Adventure Card game) and i found a review on this place mentioning it had competitive pricing, and in all honesty EVERYONE says that, so I took with a grain of salt and just decided to check it out. And lo and behold their pricing is far better than any brick and mortar store, their collection is quite extensive, and if they don't have something, they will work with you to try to order those items for you. I've compared pricing with even Amazon for the game I wanted and this place had it for cheaper. Why wait from amazon when I can just drive here on my leasure and purchase things for roughly the same price if not cheaper? Very impressed with this place, if i still played MTG I'd probably be hanging out here all the time, the staff is VERY helpful and knowledgeable, and a nice and quite venue. read more

I absolutely loved this place. I came here when I recently started to get into Magic. They helped me get started and the guy helping me was really cool. I actually came in 30 minutes before the store opened and the guy let me in while he was getting ready. Not only does this place have great service, but they have some really cool merchandise for Magic. I make it sound like it's all about Magic but they also have a great variety of board games to choose from. I see a lot of people say that there was bad service but I had no problems. Best hobby shop I have ever been too. I am mainly there for their board games and yugioh. Sadly i feel that there yugioh is a bit light and wish that have official yugioh tournament, but their workers are amazing, they are helpful, passionate and very knowledgeable in their trade. their board game and their demo selections is huge they have everything from Catan and Splendor to more obscure games like lunch money and Tanto Cuore. Customers are very friendly and respectful although can be a little loud (i am guilty of this) but overall good people. Again cant stress this enough best hobby shop around. read more

This place has become an utter unprofessional place I have been here multiple times to play fnm M and have been treated rudely by employees today I called in because my local shop did not have certain cards I need it from Magic when I called in I spoke to somebody and ask for specific cards and was told they had had the card I was looking for when I asked for the employee to put for to the side for me I got I was on my way the employees told me that there was enough and it would have them when I got there. when I arrive to the shop I asked for the cards that I asked to be put aside and was told a long longer had any more that someone came in to purchase them I then made the comment that I would have asked him to put them aside for me because I was on my way like I told him before and was told that they do not put cards to the side even though I called in and asked if they had this cards and was told yes and that they had a lot of them and approximately 20 minute drive they were all sold out. I understand that there are guidelines and rules but when a customer calls and says they are on their way tell the customer how many you have and if they are for sure coming to pick him up at that time to put them to the side for that customer who drove almost 20 30 minutes away just to come get cards from that shop. read more

In addition, they have a large room for playing tournaments, etc., and a smaller room where they have open boxes of many of their games. So you can test play a game if you're unsure of it. And they have sodas and snacks for sale - so you won't starve while playing that epic game. I was very tempted by the card sleeves with Game of Thrones houses on them. BE CAREFUL when selling your MTG singles here! They will look for the smallest flaw to deduct the value of your cards, and sometimes there aren't any flaws. Claimed I had a 'heavily played' card which I took to another shop that gave me a 'near mint' value. Just be aware and challenge their assessment! read more

First off I will say the I am NOT a MTG or Yugi card player "GASP"...OK now that I got that off my chest. I have to say that after playing a wide variety of games from DnD to Board Games, Historical Miniatures, MechWarrior, and others for more than 30 years, and probably have visited many game stores in that time, I really like this store. The staff is always helpful and when I have inquired about placing special orders, they were most accommodating. I came into the store after seeing some of the reviews so I could look into the 5e DnD to start my son off into gaming. They had just what I needed to start fresh and the gaming space while a little tight on my gaming night, is spacious. The number and selection of board games is impressive and like many others have said it is a clean shop. Parking is a bit tough on Wed and Thurs nights but still manageable My only complaint is there are not enough fantasy mini's or paint accessories, but I understand as space is at a premium. I have looked at many board games, mostly over the internet since most shops and stores don't have the variety like the internet, but this store really is a specialty store for games since they had many board games that I saw online. This is a great store. They have one of the best selection of mtg cards around. The prices are very good. The owner of the store is named Matt and is one of the nicest and most professional guys I have met working not just in mtg stores but of any small business I have delt with. This place is the best casual game place around. My friends and I are not Magic players, but we are fans of many casual games, including classics like Monopoly and Catan, as well as deck builders, dice games like Chupacabra, and newer co-op games like Dead of Winter and Pandemic. We come here about once a week, usually on Wednesdays, sit down, and play our games. Nobody makes a fuss, even when our games have gone on past the nominal closing time (10 PM). It's the best atmosphere we've found in the area, which is why we drive all the way from Placentia, even though there are a few others closer. They have dozens available for demo, which are almost always in great shape, and of course, hundreds available for purchase into the front of the store, often at less than the games go for on Amazon. Only cons are that it is a little out of the way; it's up on Lambert, in a small little industrial center across from the In-N-Out, a couple miles north of the 57 freeway. There's pretty much nothing around there other than the In-N-Out. But we drive all the way up there anyway, which should tell you how much we enjoy it. read more
