Finally made it back after such a long time! I grabbed some cupcakes for a clients work event, and had perfectly enough for my five clients plus me to celebrate a 70th birthday. A client last minute added in. First, you know the cupcakes LOOK good when the gluten free lady decides to take a cupcake... and is upset she got the last one so she didn't get a choice. I found Shugar Shack thru the "too good to go" app, I reserved my "surprise bag" and came to pick it up. When I first arrived, I wasn't greeted (ok no big deal the worker was helping someone else already) I even considered leaving at one point but I thought to myself I already paid for my order so I just told myself to wait to get it. So I started to browse their selection. Then I realized it was gonna take a while bc the customer had bought a few things plus drinks so while the worker was making the drinks and preparing her order I went to use the restroom. Then when the customer left, it was my turn and I told the worker I was there for my surprise bag. She then prepares my bag and hands it to me. They confirmed. I told them to match the image on their website. Cake was ready on time, but a complete disappointment. Honestly reminiscent of a boxed cake. The flowers they used were a joke, first some wilting, second looked nothing like the photo. They did not make it like I requested. Our girls had such a fun week at Shugar Shack's bakery camp in Huntington Beach. Since the class takes place inside a working bakery, they not only created some amazing desserts but also got to watch the bakers in action and see how they connected with customers. One of the best tips they picked up? Pouring heavy cream over brioche cinnamon rolls before baking. It was decadent and delicious. I'd never been to Shugar Shack before, but it's a hidden gem tucked inside the Huntington Harbor Trader Joe's center. Before we left, we had their tiramisu, which was delightful. We paid $11 for keurig tasting coffee watered down with lavender (1/10). My fiancé got ube matcha latte (4/10). We both didn't taste the lavender in my drink or the ube in his drink. When we did the taste test in front of the barista, she mentioned they don't use espresso to make the lattes. She could tell we didn't like it, but also didn't really offer alternatives. My two girls (12 and 15) absolutely loved their baking camp with Shirley at Shugar Shack! Shirley was such a warm and generous host, seamlessly running the shop with her team while guiding the kids. Employee was super nice and happy to answer any questions. As a sugar eating glutton I got two cupcakes and a cookie. I went with chocolate Nutella cupcake since the employee said it was his favorite, a strawberry and cream cupcake, and a decorated for Easter sugar cookie. My wife got a sugar free carrot cake cupcake, another sugar free I don't recall the flavor, and some sugar free cookies. Prices were on the high side but they had nice artistry and the take-out packaging was great to keep the cupcakes intact while you drove home. One thing I really liked is the desserts were not overly sweet. Some places overkill the sweetness factor to the point you feel sick after eating them. Here it's much lighter. Called here looking for a heart cake for my Galentines. They actually had it in stock and it was 45 for a six inch. I came by and got the red velvet one. It was really cute and they rewrote the writing on the cake for me without charge. I wanted a chicken pot pie but here were no more to try. We got carrot cake, some bagel bites, and some scones. Horrible customer service, entered establishment and met with bad attitude. Was recommended this place while waiting for my car at a nearby car wash. As I walked in, nobody was at the counter.
