Complimentary sauce
Ulyana K.

Great and decently cheap food. It's one of the more popular local spots in Homewood, which I don't visit too often. They are known for their deep fried burgers and sandwiches, but I decided to go for a classic Swiss burger with their complimentary cheese fries. The fries were pretty good. A bit soggy, not that crispy, though. I did like that the cheese sauce had a tad bit of kick to it. The cheese sauce was also pretty good. Covered the fries evenly although it did taste a bit artificial. Great portion for complimentary fries. The Swiss burger was tasty as well. I believe the mushrooms they used are canned but still alright. It wasn't too bready and the bun was fine, soaked up some of the meat. I thought the burger itself was somewhat overdone. However, I really liked the sauces. This helped make the meat feel less dry and also made sure the burger had a good balance of savory and sweetness. They gave quite a few complementary sauces on the side, too. All in all, a pretty good spot. The burger was standard but not bad. Great portion of fries, and they were pretty solid too. Good prices.

10/10 ! I ordered the Steak Gyro & it came with cheese fries . The cheese has a spicy kick to it, which I don't mind at all . It was a 15 minute wait for the food, so I recommend ordering your food ahead of time online, to avoid the wait .

Chicken and Shrimp Hibachi

Cool spot in Homewood. Both the hibachi and deep fried cheeseburgers are excellent and their lemonade is definitely worth trying as well. If you like Hibachi, I consider this a must-try!

Amazing. Shrimps are huge.

OK so I was minding my own business strolling through Facebook and I see an ad featuring food from Shaumans. I had no idea it was in Pittsburgh. I have never heard of the place. So I scroll through their FB page and see how scrumptious the food looked. Mind you I am pro quarantine. I thought people were insane for eating out with the conronavirus running a muck. Anyway I live almost 40 mins away(Butler). My sister and I grabbed our hand sanitizer and Lysol and off we went. The lady that work there was soooo nice. Very pleasant. I ordered the rice, steak, shrimp, and broccoli with cheese. My sister had the fried shrimp and cheese fries. The food was amazing. It was worth the drive. Seasoned to perfection. Amazing! Try the yum yum sauce you will not be disappointed. Everything was so delicious. Massive portions too. They have this slushie drink that is to die for. I will definitely be back. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Chicken and Ribeye Steak Hibachi and Shuman's Healthy Ginger Lemonade

Best customer service I had in a long time, she offered a sample of the Shumans Healthy Lemonade which was delicious and gave it to me for free after my card didn't work, the hibachi was the BOMB and the portions were very generous I will literally never go anywhere else for hibachi!

Friend burger.. wow, must try. Why don't more people fry burgers.

Amazing food, great customer service. I got the fried burger & fancy hibachi. Burger is $8 & fancy hibachi is $21. Both are worth the price. I'll be back.

I visited the Bloomfield location with my partner to meet a friend, we planned to arrive at 10:30…read morewhen it opened. Two other patrons went in before we did. Everyone, including the two of us, were greeted warmly. After the drive in (and finding a spot to park in the back of the building) we both needed to use the restrooms. Clean and nice. As we waited for our friend to arrive, we chose a place to sit near the windows; it seems most folks came in during our almost 90 minute lunch also left with their food. Plenty of places to sit down. This dining area was also clean and pleasant. The music wasn't too loud at all. Best of all, the food: once you choose what you want in your bowl if you get the customized one (you can get a pre-set bowl from the menu) you pay at the end of the counter and get your drink that you purchased from the "fountain" area. I really felt that every component of my customized bowl was fresh and had bright flavors; I had hoped so, because I chose not to get any dressing! I was not disappointed -- I didn't have to go back and get any dressing to "cover up" something that was tasteless, because... nothing was! All three of us had a really pleasant time, were able to enjoy our food, our conversation, and felt like it was a good price point, too. We WILL return! Again, we did go in during the first part of the day, so I have no idea what this place is like later on, but the employees all looked engaged, no one appeared to be bored and uninterested, and several behind the food line were quite helpful in describing choices to me!

This is a decent option if you were looking for something a little healthy. Unfortunately, I just…read morefelt like the portions I was given in my bowl were quite small compared to some of the other ones I saw.

I got a warm bowl with brown rice, spinach, cucumber, apple, edamame, citrus chicken thigh, and organic tofu. The portion was solid and filling, especially with the two protein add-ons at extra cost. I also tried the avocado creme sauce, but it was a little spicier than I expected, so I was glad it came on the side. Without it, the bowl tasted a bit plain. I'd still come back and try a different sauce or mix-in combo because it feels like a solid healthy option. Also worth noting: adding a smoothie to a bowl order drops the price to $6 instead of $8, but you have to add it through the bowl order rather than as a separate item. The Tropicolada smoothie was really refreshing and I'd definitely order it again.

You can create your own bowl or salad or wrap or choose one from the menu. They also have smoothies. I built a bowl/salad with spinach and red quinoa, and added mushrooms, broccoli and cucumbers. You get 3 toppings and you pay more for extra. Every protein is an additional cost. I got the chicken (around $3 additional). And then you get 1 included dressing, I got the agave mustard. I was pleasantly surprised by the bowl and thought it was tasty! I will say I wish you could get more included with your bowl, places like sweetgreen or cava or even chipotle lets you get however many toppings you want, and it feels more limited here (unless you want to pay extra). It would be nice if they allowed you to have 2 dressings too, 1 seemed kinda stingy. Good for a healthy quick casual meal in Pittsburgh!

Imagine fast food, but healthy... and actually tastes good…read more High quality ingredients, with real preparation (roasted veggies, pickled items) and even fun seasonal options (candied pecans and honeycrisp apples for fall) The options are endless. Every thing was delicious. Portions are absolute huge. At first, you'll think the bowl is not full until you realize the bowls are huge. You could easily feed two people with a single entree. The staff is always ahead of schedule. I've never walked in and had to wait. Plus, the place is super clean and welcoming.

That means I haven't actually eaten inside Roots itself; maybe one day I won't be picking up my meal on the go? But until then, I can't comment on what a sit-down experience here is like. If the name didn't give it away, this is an eatery focused on "natural foods", AKA whole foods. So if you want a salad or a bowl, this is a good place to get one. They have a limited number of "set" menu items, and they let you make custom creations, too. This is where I reveal how lame I am, because I found my favorite order back in 2023 and I've never changed it up! If you see me here I'm probably ordering a Mayweather salad, which includes kale, bulgur, sweet potatoes, beets, red onions, goat cheese, and chicken. One day I might shake things up and try their cobb salad...but until then, I'll let the Mayweather continue to delight my tastebuds. Disclaimer that Roots is not the cheapest eatery on the block, but for me, it's my weekly treat. I could never make a salad as tasty as theirs, and a good (i.e. healthy and yummy) meal makes my in-office day a little better! I can't wait to pick up my regular order again later this week (although I might steal another reviewer's idea and get the BBQ tofu instead of chicken...it sounds good AND it would make me a slightly less boring regular!).

There are so many ingredients to choose from that you can truly build a nutrient-dense meal that's customized exactly how you like it. Even though the bowl doesn't look huge at first, they really pack it full, and it ended up being much more filling than I expected. I also appreciated the variety of dressings, although I found the bowl so flavorful on its own that I didn't even need mine. I ended up saving the dressing to use with another meal later. I've only been here once, so I can't say too much yet, but my first impression was excellent. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the customer service was great. If you're looking for a healthy meal that's both satisfying and packed with fresh ingredients, this is definitely worth trying. I haven't been here enough to make a fair comparison to Roots Natural Kitchen, but the concepts are similar. Hello Bistro seems to offer even more topping options, while Roots feels a little more focused on grain bowls. My favorite additions were the roasted beets and goat cheese, but honestly, there are so many combinations that you could come back several times and have a completely different bowl each visit. Considering how generous they are with the toppings, I think it's a really good value.

The burger could have been from Wendy's for how small and generic the patties were and how soggy the bun was. It had a few sorry little slices of avocado and some chopped red onion; again, just not much to get excited about. The fries were fine, though very skinny. Service was low-key and my food was ready quickly; in general this is good, but it added to my sense that the burger was glorified fast food. The restaurant has lots of seating.

The pasta was outstanding with the perfect mix of sauce, cheese, and just the right amount of spice. Every bite tasted balanced and full of flavor. The broccolini was another highlight. The seasoning blend they used was so good, and the texture was exactly how broccolini should be. It was crispy, crunchy, warm, and honestly one of the best sides I have had in a while. Hemlock House is definitely a great date night spot. Some days it feels calm and intimate, and other days it has a more lively vibe, depending on the time you go. The kale salad was dressed well (I hate a salad with too much dressing!), and the almonds, grapes and avacado worked well in it. The broccolini was good--I'm not sure my palate was good enough to taste some of the ingredients! The malfatti was unique! Ricotta dumplings! Yummy. I was worried (not really) that the sauce Americain was going to be velveeta cheese! It wasn't, but it was a yellow cheese sauce. Crème fraiche on the side and Little bits of langoustine to round it off. Yummy! Then we had crab and bacon hush puppies. I didn't know what to expect, and they were delicious with a spicy ají verde sauce to go with it! Finally we had nouja cavatelli. I never make pasta with lemon and it was a nice flavor. Overall another great experience!
