In my mind and memories, this place is fantastic. In reality, ... I'll explain. I'm not regularly in this part of the city anymore. I'd rather drive out of state than have to cross a bridge and tunnel to get somewhere so I only stopped twice when at a nearby meeting. Decades back, my best friend lived right up the street. This was practically an extension of their own house. They were there often. Often is an understatement. I'd get off from work and knew where I could find friends. Here. I'd often stop and pick up something on my way home to the South Side Slopes. I recognize that its been a long, long time since I lived in the Southern Side of the city. I haven't been here regularly in years. I still enjoy stoping by. The last few times, the service was - I hate to say this- not good. I really do hate to say that. The reason people loved this place was because Louie, Toni, & their staff were friendly and made it an experience. Long gone are staff that made anyone in Pgh feel welcome. The last 2 stops in, I felt like an inconvenience. My orders weren't correct each time. One was a to go order. I specifically asked for things to be done a certain way because I was ordering for my husband & kids. I chalked it up to the time of day & blamed myself. I did not look it over since I was trying to beat traffic... this is a classic place. It has to be me. Not them. I had an hour break and decided to stop in. Again, staff ignored me when I ordered. It took up that entire time to get served. It was awkward. My meal was lackluster, at best. My mind wants to believe in this place and that their stuffed bananas, zucchini and chicken sandwiches will never change- but I think they have. At this point, I don't see myself going anytime soon intentionally. If a friend were to ask us to join them, I would. read more

This is such a great neighborhood bar. Located in the Brookline area of Pittsburgh this is truly a hidden. The food is so yummy . Traditional bar fair mixed with Italian. I never leave a review, but this one issue is bothering me. It isn't the food. It is the math or the software they are using to produce your check or bill. The bill is divided into two sections - upper and lower. The upper is an itemized list of your order. The lower is the tax breakdown. 1. They charge an additional tax on beer (7%). 2. They then tell you that you can save 4% if you pay with cash. But instead of just letting you know the value of the savings, they add it into the total tax.THEN they charge you sales tax with the 4% included. I then told them I was paying with cash, the bill was changed deducting the 4%. THEN they charged me 4% again and continued to charge me the sales tax on the revised 4% value. I ended up paying 10.7% tax - and this was before the tip. This is insane. I won't be back until management realizes the software is seriously flawed. read more

in the last six months I've pretty much wasted my money here. I've been charged for the wrong takeout order and didn't realize it till I got home. I didn't go back and say anything because it was my fault for not paying attention. Now about a week ago I ordered a large pizza/ Italian salad. Pizza was so burnt it was black on the bottom! The salad dressing used to come on the soufflé cups comes in the so the salad was shrunk considerably, to fit 2 soufflé cups in it. so I paid over $30 for a black bottom pizza and a little bit of lettuce with 4 pieces of lunch meat! Now I'm sick, it's the closest restaurant to me, known for their wedding soup. I open this thing up and almost vomited! I'm going to post a picture of it after I'm done writing this. now Im a retired bartender/waitress, I don't normally do things like this I'd go straight to the owner! But the own dismissed me like a piece of shit when I came to him about his bartender charging me different prices than her friends! I WATCH EVERYTHING WHEN MY MONEYS ON THE BAR! If you still want to go here, I recommend going when longtime bartenders/ waitresses are there! New ones think they run the place! Check your food order before you walk out the door! And look at you bill very closely. read more

Nice local bar with Italian roots. The atmosphere is causal and like any local bar that's been around for over 25 years, but their menu surprises you with more than bar food. While they do have wings, pizza, and burgers, they also have pasta and sea food and other higher quality meal options. I ordered the chicken parm sandwich with fries and my husband got the daily special of tortellini alfredo. I was so surprised to see the side of my sandwich. It was a huge chicken cutlet about the size of an 7in sub. It was breaded with melted parmesan on top and marinara sauce under the chicken. I would have really liked more sauce on my sandwich. Because it was so large, it got sort of dry and heavy the more I ate. The chicken was tender but had little seasoning to the breading to give it a bolder flavor. The fries that came on the side were nice and crispy, with salt seasoning. Overall a good experience with a wonderful staff. The food is reasonably priced based on how much you get. I'd probably just get a pasta dish next time because my husband's tortellini alfredo was delicious. read more

I love this place! They have very filling salads with lots of toppings. The zucchini boats can feed a whole family for such a cheap price. The wedding soup is flavorful and they are generous on the oyster crackers. Although I would love regular crackers for it. They are very family friendly and has lots of seating place. Hello fellow Yelpers! This place is a little gem! We were initially going to a restaurant down the street but they were closed and we are glad they were because we ended up stumbling into this place! There were three of us plus a 2.5 month old infant. When we entered the front door, not going to lie we thought it was the wrong place to be. You immediately enter into a bar and you see some gambling machines as well. So you can imagine we were going to leave since it just didn't seem child appropriate, however the nicest server Rachel asked us if we needed anything and let us know there was actually a back dining area! Turns out the place is much larger on the inside than it looks, there's even a side entrance straight to the dining area, heck they even host parties/banquets. It's a charming little dive bar type looking place and even has a billiards table. The owner was there with his friends in the back enjoying his time with his friends, it was fun hearing them enjoy themselves speaking Italian! That leads us to the food, most everything is hand made and it shows! The provolone cheese wheel is deliciously hand battered and made with fresh cheese. The chicken chu chu is hand pounded chicken marinated with hand made focaccia bread (it's huge! Plus their own signature, not sure if they made up the name). The chicken parmigiana hand breaded with hand made breading that isn't obnoxiously thick and the spaghetti was cooked Al dente to perfection! Pretty much all of the food was delicious which is why we call this a hidden gem! The prices are very reasonable and Rachel was such a wonderful and attentive server. She was the only one yet kept us topped off and checked in on us at a regular clip. The only things we thought could improve are a little less salt in the wedding soup and there's this odd "pass through" surcharge that is an extra 4% on top of the bill that comes from using your credit card, I guess because of the clover system they use? Just FYI for everyone. It's a bit slower here, but this is the type of establishment where they know you're name and the locals come to, so it's got such a unique charm to it. So live in the area but do not tend to eat at the restaurants in the Blvd till today. We walked inn the side door to avoid the bar area and got seated right away ( few other tables remained open but they had a big one blocked for a private party) The staff was friendly and courteous... made sure our table was cleaned before we sat ( little crumbs in table but they went right into action) .. the restaurant felt clean - and yes you can feel if a place is or is not - and looked well kept. They did have specials in a board when we walked in ... we ordered ( see pic for food) first up... wings and zucchini- I don't eat winGs but the others wIth me liked and said they would get again .. the zucchini is this cut and really good (just needed cheese which is in the table). We ordered - chicken Marsala, chicken parm and the fish sandwich special. Fish came with fries and slaw. Chicken dinners you could add pasta or veggies - all enjoyed their meals - so much chicken for two meals! They gave us bread and butter too.... the good bread! I used to live in Brookline and we came here often. But that was a lifetime ago and we stopped in today on a whim - I totally forgot how gooooood this place is. We had the chicken Chu Chu pizza and the chicken parm sandwich. They were both great but I probably wouldn't get the chicken parm again, purely because the Chu Chu is soooo good. Drafts are super cold, they have a slushy machine and the service is quick. There are daily drink specials (Wednesday is $5 Guinness draft). The feel of the place is kinda dive bar, kinda Italian mom and pop restaurant. You would walk past it if you didn't know it was there and if you peaked in, you may decide to try something trendier. This was your typical kinda local bar for me. We were a party of 4 and just wanted some drinks and food. The couple we dined with has been there many times and spoke highly of it. Let me start by saying our server was a sweetheart. Very prompt, funny, great girl. My first drink I asked for an amaretto sour. The server came back to tell me the bartender wanted to know if I preferred a shot or a drink.....I have never been asked that. An amaretto sour is 2 ingredients in a rocks glass with a cherry. That's it. So very confused, I specified in a rocks glass. It was brought in an oversized shot glass. As in 2 sips and I was done. So then I decided to switch to a whisky sour. That glass was nothing but sours. Finally I thought, what's the simplest thing I can ask for? I got a bourbon and ginger ale and that was fine. But I paid money for a whole lot of nothin on those other drinks. We got the zucchini as an appetizer. It was huge and very yummy! My boyfriend got a gigantic steak calzone and was stuffed and super happy. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap. It was good, nothing to write home about but it filled me up. I just moved to the area, and I have heard GREAT things about Moonlite Cafe, so I had to check it out! We came to Moonlite to watch the Steeler game, which was super great on the nice flat screens that they have in the bar area. Like other reviews, this bar was SUPER CLEAN! I mean sparkling clean, which really never happens. Also, like other reviews, yes - from the outside this place looks like a dive bar. However, once you walk in the door you are greeted by super friendly employees, and a very friendly vibe. Moonlite is definitely a place that you go to, receive great service, and then are remembered the next time you come in. For this trip, we just ordered some appetizers/drank while watching the game. The bartender was new, and still did an awesome job. Drinks were reasonably priced, and she did a great job keeping up even though the bar area was slammed for the game. Appetizers were.. awesome! cheese wheel, yum - marinara sauce that they serve was wonderful as well. Fried zucchini was the biggest portion I've ever seen. I will definitely be back here! Honestly a group of friends got together for 60 cent wing night and we were not disappointed. I'm pretty much a wing fan fanatic and was pleasantly surprised at to hear this place had great wings. I was drawn to Buffalo Blue and Hot garlic parm. The only knock I have is the time it took for the wings to come out. The place didn't seem that crowded, but my group was in the back area. I was in need of something greasy, something to satisfy my pit in my stomach and when Moonlite Cafe was suggested, I said why not? Walking in you are greeted by the neighborhood sports bar vibe. Especially since I came here during the Pirates game. The bar was lined by what looks liked regulars and Pirates fanatics. Some high top tables lined the perimeter of the room making for getting a seat a bit of a task, but once seated we were fine. At the time we were there, we basically did it all ourselves. We had to go to the bar to ask for menus and back to the bar to order. The food was delivered to the table, but by the looks of it, and with how busy it was here, they only had the bartender working at that point. That's not to detract from the fact that we received amazing service and that bartender was one bad ass. She gave it right back to the regulars and kept it moving. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and he got a meatball hoagie. I wasn't expecting much from a bar burger but I ended up surprised. The patty was thick and juicy, cooked to your liking. Topped with cheese and expertly cooked bacon. Lettuce and tomato on the side so you can add if you like, nice move as to not water down the bun before diving in. Condiments are giving to you prior so you can put as much of any condiment you like on your burger. Each burger/sandwich is served with house potato chips. They were amazing as well. I still cannot figure out what the seasoning was that topped these, but they were amazing. As for the meatball hoagie, it was HUGE. Three big meatballs covered in marinara and cheese. Satisfying? Yes. Price point is on target as well, did not break the bank. Specials every night of the week. Some decent beers on tap. read more

First let me say that they have the coldest draft beer around!! Both my husband and I had Marsala.. I had chicken and veal.. everything is ala cart.. vegetables on side, pasta, salad etc. but prices are so reasonable that it's nice to be able to choose what you want or don't want....
