Haven't been to this place for almost 8 years and good to see it's still here and doing well. Ownership may have changed in between as food quality seems to have gotten better. It's still a traditional Chinese restaurant with a very extensive menu of classic dishes. We had Singapore fried noodles, dry fried string beans, house special fried rice, scallion pancakes, sweet sesame balls and fried eggplant. All quite good, the sesame balls are smaller than the ones you might buy in Chinatown stores so more delicate - and you don't have to eat too much at a time. Only thing is the tea - we had jasmine but it's just one tea bag in a pot so there was almost no tea flavor at all let alone any jasmine fragrance. They could improve on that by at least give you 2-3 tea bags for the pot. Overall quite a decent Chinese restaurant in the area. read more

We stopped for lunch today after doing a little post holiday shopping and returns. We were greeted and seated immediately. Shun Feng has a large lunch menu with items ranging from $12 to $15. We had the Prawn Chow Mien and Hot & Sour Chicken. The food was fresh and delicious. I love how the staff is consistently friendly and helpful. They check in on you often and keep things moving. They have a computer set up by the register to make take out orders easy and efficient. It's easy to use and our orders always come out in a timely manner. Horrible food! Do not order from the lunch specials menu. The soup was a gloppy mess with nothing in it. The Hunan beef seemed to be fried leftover meat covered in a red colored sauce. Special Noodle is widely regarded as the most popular Chinese restaurant in the city but we wanted to try another area that would serve authentic Chinese food. We decided to give Shun Feng a chance and were not disappointed! It's a nice cozy restaurant with traditional feel and decor. We were seated at the round table and had an amazing family style Chinese dinner. The owners and managers are all from China so it makes sense the food was authentic. Visiting Santa Cruz and was craving Chinese dim sum. Restaurant is clean. There weren't that many customers as we came for dinner. Building is old and the air conditioning unit was near where we were seated, and it was loud. We ordered a few entrees of chow mein, etc., and some dim sum. It was good, but not great. This is by far our favorite Chinese restaurant in Santa Cruz! I've had season passes for the boardwalk here forever and we just discovered this place a few years ago. I'm so bad a dates, maybe 3 or 4? Years ago? But we've eaten here a million times since and always bring family and friends w us, or take Togo whenever we come into town (about 6? Times a year) we love all of the staff and the main lady (owner?) is the best! She is so cute and friendly and welcoming. Togo and eating in is both great. We are vegetarians, but most of the friends and family we go there w are not. We all love it, meat eaters and vegetarians alike. The restrooms are always very clean and the food comes out really fast and always delicious. The portion sizes are really good and the prices are very fair. Parking is also really easy for dining in as well as Togo. I wish I had pictures, but honestly lol, we eat the food so quickly when we get it that photos are the last thing in our mind lol. We usually drive in after working in our sac offices and are starving when we arrive, so sorry, no photos tonight, but I'll be sure to take some the next time we're in Santa Cruz! read more

They're a small but cute shop that sports an impressively large menu with a diverse amount of dishes that can appeal to lots of different expectations for Chinese food. If you're looking for more Chinese American-style food like the classic Chinese takeaway items such as chow mein, sweet & sour chicken, egg foo young, spring rolls, and fried rice, they got you covered! However, if you want more "authentic" Chinese cooking, they have a lot of classic dishes that span from Cantonese, Sichuanese, northern-style cuisines, and more from China, so if you're the kind of person who prefers more traditional Chinese cooking, they have plenty to offer for you to! This place will probably be a legit spot for international Chinese students studying at UCSC/Cabrillo. Personally, I think the Santa Cruz area has some okay Chinese restaurants, but they are more focused on either the American style or if they are more "authentic", then they lean more towards the modern style of Chinese food, both of which are great in their own ways. However, Shun Feng stands out to me because they can do both Chinese American and classic Chinese styles very well, and they have a home-style to it that reminds me of a Chinese mom or grandma cooking for you. The service was also great! The staff was so kind to me and spoke both English and Mandarin. I actually forgot my bag there, and they held onto it for me for a whole week before I picked it up. Best Chinese food in town! When my boyfriend and I moved to Santa Cruz from New Orleans Shun Feng quickly became our favorite place to eat! Your favorite classics and if you are adventurous try ordering from their white board. During the pandemic I was so lost and scared, I had a lot of trouble going in public. Shun Feng was a great comfort. Not just nourishing our bodies but the amazing staff helped me get through that time. Try their delicious fried chicken, I think their wings are the best in town! This is by far the BEST Chinese food in town! I had the pleasure of meeting Jesse the owner! I am a very adventurous eater and wanted to try the pork intestines with duck blood and pickled cabbage so she happily showed me the menu that is authentic and true to the Chinese cuisine and not at all just your average orange chicken. I am soooooo happy that I made this choice! The pork blood was soft, delicate, and earthy. The intestines were succulent, rich, and tasted like the cleanest bacon. It was all balanced by the sour pickled cabbage and all and all I am so happy that I tried something new and true to the culture. We also had hot and sour soup, General Tso's Chicken, and combination chow fun which were all outstanding! The fry on the General Tso is impeccable, perfectly crispy, and light even after sauced. Worst meal. Three of us came for lunch. It was the worst meal we've had in a long time. My eggplant in black bean sauce was mostly eggplant skin and tough. My wife's chicken with cashews stunk so bad of rotten fish, that she asked them to do it without the sauce, which they claimed was shrimp sauce. When they brought the replacement dish back it had no cashews, still stunk and the meat was clearly not chicken. It looked like some kind of cheap fish. We left hungry and will never go back.
