Shy Bear is a must for anyone near the Lewistown, PA area that likes beer. It's a microbrew that focuses on traditional and non-traditional brews served up in the proper glass. It's located just outside of town on a wooded hillside and has a pretty great vibe for inside or outside seating. Its small parking lot can be packed depending on the day or if they have live music. They have an outside stage and seating area that's really fun when the weather cooperates. They've expanded their interior to also accomodate live music during the colder months. They typically have over +15 beers/ciders on tap and they love to experiment. We go to taste whats new from sours, stouts, wheats, to various european varieties, etc. I don't always love everything but I am a fan of what they are doing. In general - I like their beer more often than not. Food has been hit or miss but lately we've really enjoyed it. It's an interesting and elevated take on the traditional bar food with sandwiches, burgers, tacos, etc. A must is the "Big Freakin' Pretzel" with 4 dipping sauces. Pricing varies but most food is $15-$25 and they offer a variety of beer sizes or flights for sampling. The cost is higher than most but so is the experience. I love it!

The food and beer at Shy Bear is top notch! We went here at lunchtime on Saturday and had a great experience. Between the large selection of beer and choices of cocktails and wine, there were plenty of adult drink options to choose from. We also ordered the cheese curds, cheeseburger, tacos and kids chicken finger basket and the food was fantastic. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and provided excellent suggestions. We'll definitely stop by here again soon!

Really cool spot tucked away in the mountains of Lewistown. Great outdoor seating area and delicious food. Our server was very sweet.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere here and the food was amazing! Everyone was friendly and it was clean.

    Ahi Tuna Crisps

My Ahi Tuna Crisps were decent. I wanted cheesesteak eggrolls, but they ran out. My wife has a seafood allergy, so there was nothing for her to eat there. We were told they have a very small kitchen and there is too big of a chance of cross contamination.

Excellent friendly hospitality especially with our small dogs. Good foods, beer, and awesome sodas.

This place is worth the trip! There is a big sign along the main road so you can't miss the turn. Pets are allowed outside and under the patio. The food was okay, but I didn't try much! I got the Philly smoked sausages got a great cook on the exterior but the inside of the sausage was off. Ground up too much like it was a fine meatball meat texture almost, which made it difficult to eat in a way and a bit of a let down. Thankfully, the Mac and cheese was choose on the smoker too - those noodles soaked up the smoke smell and flavor and was delicious. I would've liked more gooey cheese, but the cheese was definitely there. My favorite beer was Astral Events which is their Melonberry Wheat / 6% ABV. We'll be back because the service was great too.

Still my favorite place to eat when here for work! A few weeks ago we got here for dinner, then brunch the following day, and this week it was for dinner outside.

Due to this, they only had fans to keep cool while circulating the outdoor air. Since we had our pup with us, we were only able to sit in the patio area, but it's not like the "indoor" area was really indoors. Anyways, I wasn't in the mood for drinking, so just had some lunch here. There's two restaurants combined at the food counter (which used to be food trucks here). You can get pizza from pizza and subs from Flo Bros Pizza and wings, burgers and sandwiches from Marin Eats. I had the Crabcake Sandwich ($15) with Tots (+$2). The sandwich was solid and tots were crispy. It's a nice space to hang out with a group. There are pinball machines, cornhole, and games for entertainment. It's nicely situated next to a creek, so you get a bit of nature too.

I had a brisket sandwich, wife had a really immense chicken salad. My son had a ruben sandwich and I can't remember what my daughter had. However, all the food was really great and I really did enjoy myself. After lunch my daughter took me to the Rusty Rail store and I bought a nice T-shirt. If you do buy a T-shirt, I want to say, while the shirts are great, wash up nice and feel really comfortable, make sure you buy an upsized shirt. Normally I take a large but I decided on an XL and I am glad I did because after washing the XL fits perfectly. And I got to speak with (I think either the manager or owner) about the music they were playing. They were playing songs from my favorite singer, Bob Seger. I have every Bob Seger song he ever published on either, CD, Cassette Tape (yeah, still got one that works), or vinyl record. Told him he needs to check out the Bob Seger song Little Victories. I actually have a vinyl record with just that song. It is the large 78 version. That was a rare find and I actually found that in Germany in the mid 80's. The song says a lot. Anyway, after speaking with the man, my daughter said I could pick out and mix my own six pack of beer. Let me tell you, Rusty Rail makes some really, really fantastic beer. I would have to say my two faovrites are Wolf King, a stout with coffee & oatmeal and the other is Fool's Gold, Peanut Butter Hefeweizen. Oh my God, those two are absolutely great beers. I should be living in Mifflinburg because I would be making a weekly stop at the Rusty Rail. And for all you ex-military people, the Rusty Rail does give a discount to military. I hope my kids take me to the Rusty Rail again next year. Oh, in case I did not say it. The kids took mom and dad to the Rusty Rail and the Wild Animal Sanctuary as a gift for our birthday's and Mother's Day and Father's Day. It just so happens my wife was born on Mother's Day and I was born the day after Father's Day. The atmosphere of the Rusty Rail is great, it is simply a real nice place to socialize. And as a compliment to the Rusty Rail, I want to add this. When I go out to eat, one of the first things I do is use the restroom. Why? To see how clean the restrooms are. If a venu's restrooms are dirty, find another place because if they can't keep the restrooms clean, then they don't care about your food much either. The restrooms at the Rust Rail were immaculately clean. JUST TO BE CLEAR, THE RESTROOMS AT THE RUSTY RAIL ARE IMMACULATELY CLEAN. Thank You Rusty Rail for a wonderful time with my family.

We tried stopping in once before and they were completely booked for the night. This time we planned ahead, made a reservation, and were seated right away. Like, we got mustard on our clothes from an unclean table; food and napkin scraps all stuck in the grass everywhere you looked. Then, the service outside is through a window, which in itself is no problem. The issue is that it was single server on a Friday night and the line took a really long time. We opted for a different location but I had this spot in mind for a good summer evening. Came here with some friends on a Friday summer night for banter and brews.
