We stopped by here for lunch after taking the ferry. The lady at the counter was very professional. When we said it was our first time here, she gave us a generous sample plate of literally everything they had that day. The oxtail, chicken curry and jerk chicken were really good. Veggies and mac were solid, but didn't love the rice. I got the large oxtail plate ($25) which normally comes with rice and 2 more sides, but they let me pick any 3 sides so I got cabbage, green beans, and mac n cheese. The plate was served in a large takeout container and it was stuffed to the brim with everything. They don't skimp on the oxtail. It was tender, juicy, and had a good flavor. My partner ordered the chicken and waffles ($14) which unfortunately he didn't like as much. He said the chicken was tough and the waffle was just ok. But he liked the mac n cheese. But just FYI, the block is seedy, and there was a seedy character hanging out inside that the employee kicked out. read more

I was in the mood for curry chicken do. I came here. I was hungry and excited to eat. I ordered the rice with peas and the curry chicken. It came to $12 and change for the smallest styrofoam container which are illegal in NYC . I got home and had a big bite with old rice. The rice was hard as if it was days old and the peas, the beans were all dried out and I had to remove them from my mouth. The chicken was ok but I got a piece of the chicken leg and it was just the bone with the cartilage at the top. Gross that she could even put that in my small container. The food i got was old. Service very friendly. Staff helpful. Ordered for pick up because Holland bay was listed temporarily closed . If I compare a large helping from SI fish for price and servings, theres no comparison. Holland bay is gracious with their oxtail and sauce and will give more of that than rice and peas or cabbage depending on your preference. Si fish portion is half what you could get at Holland bay. It also has the consistency of being a day old and lost its juices along the way unlike Holland bay . Mac and cheese was good and cabbage great. Rice and peas had the same feeling of sitting around for a bit. This could be my bad ordering at the end of a day. For 25$ you can get the freshest juiciest oxtail at Holland bay but if that's not an option I need to order from SI fish bright and early and in person to truly test the food. I wouldnt intentionally order oxtail from here again but I haven't tried their other dishes so I will be back to try other things. My BIL loves on the Island and was so excited to bring us to this spot, and I totally understand why. First impression of the place is bright, airy, and clean. Service was extremely giving and friendly. Malik was so gracious to give us a sample of everything to help us first timers decide what to get. I will tell you that was hard, because everything was DELICIOUS.. from the oxtail, meatloaf, mac and cheese, yams, cabbage... my goodness. We decided on the fish and shrimp combo plate with mac and cheese and yams. The whiting and shrimp were perfectly seasoned.. the mac and cheese and yams were top of the line good. I've ordered here a few times now with friends and all I can say is that this place doesn't miss and is one of the few gems on Staten Island. I usually get it delivered, at this point I have tried everything on menu and have complaints about nothing, well the only small issue for me is that the jerk chicken pieces are massive!! I came here this past summer and loved the food actually adored it. Cool spot located not too far from the Staten Island ferry. They really did there thing with the food and service...the owner I believe or manager gave me a small sampler platter to try all the favorites. We fell in love with everything. One of the workers helped me so much she went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Because of the good deeds when I graduated from my parenting journey class, I highly referred the restaurant & the facilitator picked them to cater the event. My second time ordering SI fish this month, the first time the food was amazing. Fresh fried fish with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Today Nov 26, 2024 I ordered 3 piece fish with cabbage, Mac and cheese, side of of yams and banana pudding. Returned home to eat and the fish was not fresh you could tell that it had been microwaved, the Mac and cheese was the corners and burnt pieces. Staten Island sad to say is lacking a lot of Caribbean options. Some might say it's a desert. Those that take on the challenge must deliver in a way that's consistent to what you've had prior. What's wrong is how would you know you've had better? Such is this place. My sister who is a resident of this fine borough suggested this restaurant. I ordered a fish meal, and "Rasta" pasta. The Alfredo/ pasta sauce was thick. Clumped up nice on the way home. ‍ the chicken added was picked/ pulled possibly from chicken thighs or legs. And it was kinda salty. The fish meal was with macaroni and cheese. Again, just ordinary, the fish wasn't crunchy at all. It was chewy though and not in a good way. Prices are much higher than what's shown (2018 menu and 2021 menu with no changes). A $48 order came out to $70 and they said "there's nothing they can do about that." Meanwhile it's printed on the menu to "leave a good review on Yelp for a 10% discount." How are you going to direct people to Yelp while also claiming you have no control over what your customers see? They can literally add an updated menu at any time but I guess that would be bad for business. And maybe turn down the radio when taking orders over the phone instead of trying to scream over it? Everytime I get food from here they never disappoint. The food is so freaking good. And I always eat all my food, no crumbs left. The customer service is pretty good. I know they are always busy because everytime I call I get put on hold and they never come back to the phone. Now the ambiance is really nice, very clean and neat. You can sit at the countertop/bar and have a drink while waiting for your food or you can sit eat and drink. I highly recommend this place to everyone in the world read more

Been thinking about this spot since my first visit and couldn't resist ordering again. The fried fish, fried shrimp, and bbq wings were all superb. The bbq wings were fried (maybe even double fried) but were crunchy and juicy. Also loved the bbq sauce. Mac and cheese is a must-try side! LISTEN TO MY FOOD POISONING STORY: The food was okay, oxtails were flavorful, but very skimpy on the portion. Mac and cheese was fine but it needed a little something extra. As far as the rice it was bland and needed flavor. The main reason I will never eat from this place again.... it gave me FOOD POISONING.
