I'm not a big ice cream person, but I do love sweets, especially a sweets shop with history. I ordered a banana split. Though, it was difficult to decide what to order! This place has a peaceful vibe, but the signage is a little chaotic -- it's like walking up to a Dr. Bronner's bottle. I had to stand there for a bit and read everything while the poor girl behind the counter waited for me to get my bearings. (Luckily I was the only one in the shop at the time.) There are different colored signs everywhere, listing daily specials, new items, and things you can buy that aren't ice cream, like bags of ice and local honey. The banana split was delicious: A perfectly ripe banana split between two scoops of ice cream -- I chose vanilla and chocolate. It's topped with whipped cream, crushed nuts, and a cherry on top. It's one of those desserts where you lose track of time when you eat it, or at least I did. All of my concentration went toward eating that magnificent ice cream concoction as quickly as possible. The menu is somewhat Latin American, but there are the usual favorites too. They had signs for a "mangolada," and though I didn't know what it was I got one. I usually go for the specialty of the house- there's often a reason for its being one. I assumed it would be something like a pina colada with mango added, but no: mango juice, lime juice, mango chunks, and hot pepper powder on the rim and throughout the drink. Not very hot, just a tingle, mostly cold and refreshing just with a little zip. Perfect on a warm spring day. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are good. Parking could be tight at busy times, so be careful. Definitely a place I'd visit a lot when in town.
