This is actually a pretty good Thai restaurant. The Decour is inviting, service is pretty good, and I really enjoyed the food. We ordered our usual chicken pad Thai, a curry dish, and other odds and ends. All were pretty tasty, and while prices reflect the seaside community, it did not break the bank. I don't always visit Carpinteria, but when we do, I will certainly consider having dinner here. read more

This place is decent given that there are not too many choices. We ordered the following dishes: Pad Thai with Pork- Coming from the Bay Area, I'm used to Pqd thai standard with shrimp. The had decent portion and noodle consistency was good. The sauce was a bit greasy and on the sweeter side. Pumpkin curry with beef- didn't really taste the curry and only got one piece of pumpkin with the curry. Got decent amount of beef with the curry though. Fresh vegetable with chicken- my favorite dish as it was not too greasy and was light. Mix of broccoli, baby corn, Shanghai bok choy, mushroom, cabbage, and carrot stir fried with fresh garlic. read more

Sad to say that this Thai favorite has changed management and the food is not the same. My Pad See Ew lunch was made with frozen broccoli and was very bland. The Tom Yum soup is not the same. Well Date of Visit : December 19, 2021 and searching for an open Restaurant in Santa Barbara after 8:00pm is kind of difficult !! So what I noticed is lots of restaurants close fairly early and driving up and down the street plus walking in asking if restaurants are opened !! And most close early !! So Finally found this Thai Restaurant opened past 8:30pm and I walk in and was seated right away and it was really slow because it was 43 degrees outside and freezing so I guess no one wants to be outside eating !! Well for us we were fairly hungry and needed some food in our stomach !! As a foodie I always enjoy trying new restaurants and eating at new places !! So I Decided on ordering the Pan Thai Noodles and I have to say it is one of the more popular dishes here !! Cooked well and flavorful !! Next I got some appetizers which were the delicious Spring Rolls which they cut in pieces for you to dip into there delicious Peanut Sauce which comes on the side !! Those spring rolls were yummy !! Last I got the Red meat Wonton Soup which hit the spot !! Tasted pretty dang good !! I also noticed the decor was decorated with a lot of elephants around and I guess it's the symbol for this Restaurant !! But I do suggest you give it a try and enjoy the delicious Thai food they serve here !! One more thing the parking was not bad but you have to park on the side street and the first 90 Minutes are Free !! The first time I tried Siam Elephant, I was blown away by the food. The soup and curries piping hot and bursting with umami- I would've guessed there was some secret MSG cooked in there- but NO! clearly stated on the front of the menu "No MSG added". This place has OK service and can get pretty busy during the dinner rush. This review is not about the service ( although my favorite waiter "SIRI" is awesome and attentive every time!). This review is all about the food baby. I was so impressed I went back for more the next day.... and then two days after that.... and then twice more by the end of the week! Finally this week, I went back with a friend after discovering they have a deal on Axxess for "Buy one Get one" meals on dine-In orders. I ended up going 5x in one week and finally decided to write this review. We ordered ( all medium spicy): -Eggplant with Thai Basil with Tofu combo- The surprising table favorite- so flavorfull and not overly heavy or filling like some of the noodle and rice dishes. -Spicy Fried Noodle with Shrimp Combo- How can you go wrong with fried noodles- taste a bit like drunken noodle without the ground meat. Red Curry with Chicken- Piping hot, creamy and garnished with fresh cilantro that slowly cooked in the warm coconut broth enhancing the curry flavor as the evening continued. The Combo selection comes with a cup of Tom Kha to start with was intensely tangy and creamy, fragrant and delicious, all at once- BUT WAIT, there's more. The combo also came with: *RICE *FRIED SHRIMP *EGGROLL *SIDE SALAD all for only $15 bucks !!! The bigger surprise came with the bill- $38 for 3 people, all of us so full we could barely believe it. SO AFFORDABLE. I tried so hard not to overeat but alas- was not able to stop myself from filling up. The food is SO GOOD! Pretty good Thai food! My friend and I stopped here on the way to Santa Barbara to grab lunch and found this gem. The egg rolls were very crispy but a bit noodle heavy. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Had the pumpkin curry. It was delicious. Only issue was the waiter said the special came with 3 appetizers. So when he brought a plate of coconut shrimp we thought oh wow, generous serving. We ate it, our meal came with 3 small samples of different appetizers. When we received bill the shrimp appetizer was billed. I inquired he politely said it was a separate charge. We had the fresh rolls as appetizer, they are fresh and yummy, with 2 tasty sauces. My wife orders fresh coconut juice, an actual coconut and I had an IPA on tap. Then soup.. hot pot, poh tak, a spicy traditional seafood soup w/ lemon grass and mushrooms. Deliciousness, finished it all. Main course, was massaman curry w/ seafood along with Brown rice. Very flavorful, earthy wish we added some spice to it but also delicious. Also spicy pan fried noodles with veggies, with no egg. A large assortment of veggies was very impressed, wasn't so spicy just right. They are happy to accommodate allergies or customize your order as it's all made fresh so expect to wait a little bit for your food. Wife ordered coconut ice cream for dessert. Portions were perfect. Enough left over for lunch . All employees were very tentative, and nice. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful, clean. They are doggy friendly. Went here in 2021 and it was good but now NO. Came back in 2024 on family vacation and the food went down hill, it has no taste. I asked for no onions since I'm allergic and it still had onions. The service was horrible they pick and choose who they want to give attention to. I had to get up and go to the front desk for a refill on drinks. The price is not worth the meal you got, little plates and no taste. Everything is paid separately. For example: if you want the entree of sweet and sour chicken it does not come with a side option of white rice anymore now you have to pay for each size extra. The atmosphere was okay, we had my service dog but couldn't eat inside and then it was super cold outside and they gave us cold hard chairs. Overall bad experience! Interested in finding the best red curry? Well you have found the place! I have red curry everywhere I go and this by far is one of the best curry places I have had. I have had it in NYC, Texas, from Burmese refugees that make it on a daily basis....and from Indian friends. Hands down really really good. You can make it mild, medium and spicy. The little dining huts in the outdoor seating area are sooo cute and inviting for this little spot! They were occupied when I arrived, but nice touch! Service was great. With the help of our waiter I was able to customize by combo of beef, mixed veggies and ginger for $13.95. Entree comes with a side Tom Kha soup or salad. I could tell the soup was well made, I'm just personally not a huge fan of the taste of fish sauce and coconut milk mixed...ha, should have ordered salad. Anyway, the rest of the food was okay. Again, well prepared, but lacked a bit of seasoning. The American in me added salt and pepper, but I think it needed something else. Filling and healthy nonetheless. On another visit I would order something else. I did really enjoyed the shrimp roll that came along with the combo. I believe it was like a fried rice roll. I wasn't crazy about the egg roll. Siam Elephant is a chill little Thai nook by the beach in Carpenteria. A friend of mine loved it and recommended it to me. The ethnic decor enhanced the delicious meal. Our friendly server presented us with the most outstanding spring rolls. They were wrapped tightly with perfect lettuce and two dipping sauces. Spring rolls are take time to master and the flawless presentation demonstrated a high level of finesse. My red coconut curry entree was delicious and I ended up eating the last of the broth with a spoon after inhaling every morsel. I went to Siam Elephant for the first time recently and was absolutely blown away by the food. My SO and I had the spicy noodles and pumpkin curry, and both were excellent. The spicy noodles were full of delicious flavor with a strong basil presence. The pumpkin curry was thick, creamy, and rich, a deep pumpkin curry. I like that they have spacious patio outside to wait in while your order is ready. It's a shame that there's a pandemic now because it seems like it has both very nice indoor and outdoor dining areas. When the pandemic subsides, I'll definitely be back to dine in, but for now, I'll enjoy the takeaway. read more

Finding a good restaurant with vegan options in a new town can be difficult. Siam Elephant was intriguing and within walking distance from our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. Siam Elephant is a Thai restaurant, which raised some concerns for me as someone with severe peanut allergies. In addition, I'm vegan, so the customer service would be put to a test. We alerted the waiter that I had a peanut allergy in addition to my vegan diet, and asked if any dishes could be altered to suit me. The waiter told us that they could practically do anything, and we went on with our order. He was very helpful while we ordered, as he listed each non-vegan ingredient in each dish and asked us if we wanted to substitute or take it out. The overall ordering experience was pleasant, as he was very thorough in making sure we knew what each dish contained. When the food arrived, the true test began. I had seen reviews about the restaurant being insensitive to allergies, which worried me. Whenever I consume any food I am allergic to, I immediately get a reaction. Ready to grab my epi-pen, I took my first bite of the Spicy Noodle dish... And I let out a huge sigh of relief. The foods were exactly as we had ordered. Everything was vegan, meat subbed with tofu, with no trace of a peanut in sight. Confident in the food, I dug in and devoured most of the meal. The actual flavors of the food were delicious. Everything was well-balanced and seasoned nicely. The Spicy Noodle dish was delicious with the mix of hot rice noodles and bell peppers. The special at the time, Tempura Avocado, was also delicious and I'd recommend to anyone that likes avocados to snatch it if available. The Coconut soup was also extremely good, not to mention the overall presentation. Pro Tip for vegans/lactose intolerants: the Thai Tea Boba comes with half-and-half. However, just alert the waiter about your veganism/intolerance and ask to sub for coconut milk. Tastes just as good! Overall, the experience here was gosh-darn amazing and it would be my first choice if I ever returned. I recommend it to anybody, as there are so many versatile options that the waiters are willing to tweak. read more

Thai food worth driving from Goleta for. Siam Elephant consistently out-performs all of the Thai diners in the Santa Barbara area. It's a tiny little restaurant at the edge of Carpinteria's downtown that offers generous portions of fragrant stir fries and curries. What is amazing: - Eggplant with thai basil (so much flavorful basil and vegetables in a spicy brown sauce) - Spicy basil leaves (similar to the eggplant, but with more bamboo shoots and onions) - Pad prik tai dam (peppery stir fry with mushrooms and mixed veggies) - Pumpkin curry (red coconut curry with tender chunks of steamed pumpkin and vegetables) - Larb kai (super-fragrant ground chicken salad with plenty of lime juice and mint) Essentially, anything with "thai basil" in the description is going to be fantastic because they add plenty of fresh basil and balance the flavor with strong savory-spicy sauces. Many other restaurants simply add a few leaves and the taste doesn't come through. One big plus with Siam is that if you ask for your food cooked very spicy, it will come out at least a reasonable 3/5. Say the same thing in most SB restaurants, and it simply won't have much spiciness. As far as things to watch out for, some other dishes can tend toward the sweet side (pad thai, curries, and the peanut sauce with the satay). If you don't like things sweet, stick with the more savory stir-fried entrees. I love the restaurant itself, which is small, but comfortable and inviting. The servers are kind, and the service is always surprisingly fast. I am so grateful that Siam Elephant exists - they absolutely never disappoint. read more

We LOVE the price, taste and service here. Very cute outdoor seating perfect for Covid times. They really go above and beyond to accommodate different preferences. I first enjoyed this with my daughter on a beach trip, we had the lunch special pad Thai. Then we took my husband who said it was the best Thai he's had! (Pad see ew). Last night we were in the area for my dads birthday and they were able to seat us just fine. We did a family style dinner where we shared a bunch of entrees and my dad was so impressed!
