I am not the biggest enthusiast of delivered meals, but this time, I wanted Chinese food, but didn't want to shower and get dressed again to go out. I used Doordash, which I usually have pretty good luck with, especially when my son orders it through his own account. After waiting more than twenty minutes after the delivery time, I got a text from the dasher telling me to cancel the order. My son had already told me about that scam. You go into the app and get the support folks to cancel it, or it is called "customer initiated" and you lose your refund. Anyway, Doordash had the order redone and delivered with a new driver. Let's get to Sichuan Garden. I ordered from here because they had some "non- standard" offerings. I lived in Taiwan a while back and upon return to the US never acquired a taste for the supposedly authentic Americanized dishes. I ordered stir fried pork tripe and pork intestines in spicy chili sauce. I got a complimentary side of fried rice with each of them. I also ordered beef lomein for my son and 4 eggrolls. I tasted the lomein, and it was just okay. I have definitely had better. The egg rolls were "delivery soggy" but tasted fantastic. Can't complain there. The trip and intestine dishes were both delicious. I could eat them every day for the rest of my life and be satisfied. The fried rice, though, was awful. I used it the next day to make a much more improved version at home. All in all, I like the food from Sichuan Garden. I am anxious to go there and dine in. The ribs with garlic were terrible. I guess it's on me for assuming they would be anything like other ribs instead of rubs of grizzle and bone and fried...never seen that. The General Taos has some spice which is nice but ultimately it taste like it's cooked in old oil and is sickly sweet until the heat kicks in. The wonton soup is very watery and the broth has no texture to it and I didn't see anything in it other than some scallions. And the fried rice is fine...I prefer pork fried rice which wasn't an option from online... I don't know if I would bother giving this place another chance or not. We came in for lunch on Christmas Eve. There's were a handful of patrons, and it was rather chill. It was fun to hear staff singing Christmas music and I think, even though it was practically summer outside, it felt like the holiday spirit was hitting! The restaurant is small, but spacious and had a very open and welcoming feel. We were immediately seated and given time to explore the menu. We ordered the salt and pepper fish, kung pow chicken, and tofu with vegetables, bbq buns, spring rolls, and pork dumplings. The salt and pepper fish. You don't need anything else else. This was arguably the best fish I've ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, light, and crispy and was accompanied by some tender cilantro leaves and stems. I don't know what magic spell they use, but I'll never order anything else. I'm often a creature of habit with my orders and stick to what I know I'll like, but this surpassed my expectations. The pork dumplings were also incredible. It packed so much flavor and moisture in a small bite. The bbq pork buns were pillowy soft with a hint of sweetness and packed full of flavor and tender bbq pork. The spring rolls were steamy hot and crispy. Not as memorable as the other starters, but solid. The kung pow chicken was excellent. It had a nice kick and was cooked perfectly with just enough sauce. The tofu veggies were good (but even better the next day). The tofu was the right texture and the veggies were crisp and seasoned well. Everything was fantastic. The service was fast, virtually no wait time. The food comes out hot and ready to eat. Me and My Girlfriend Rosana ordered the Spicy sautéed sichuan chicken and Sautéed greens beans. I also ordered the orange chicken with Crab Rangoons. The first dish was amazing. The noodles with the spicy sautéed chicken went together amazingly and complimented the green beans and left a great after taste. The orange chicken came with broccoli and steam rice, and both were hot tasty and delicious! This is the best experience we have had in a while so i had to make my first post this one. 14 Feb 2025 This place is so consistently good. They have a new dim sum and hot pot menu. Dim sum is available daily from 11am - 5pm. We had the Pork BBQ steamed buns. Tasty, but a little more doughy than We've had at other places. Husband had a lamb dish served in a a large bowl. Very spicy broth. I had the roast duck served with a thick plum sauce. Very good. The skin was deliciously crispy. It was easier to eat with my hands, rather than pull the meat off the bones with my fork and spoon. Iced tea is only $3. Not bad. Several servers helped us. This place is fantastic especially if you want to order authentic sichuan food. They have mild and spicy dishes. The staff were helpful in helping me order unfamiliar food dishes from the menu. The prices are reasonable. The place was pretty crowded but not too noisy. I could see a lot of people in these round tables were having a communal experience sharing their dishes with everyone at their table. The food was very enjoyable. Very sweet waitress. We tried two dishes for lunch - twice cooked pork and stir fried tripe (special menu off the wall). The twice cooked pork is average but it's better than the stir fried tripe. However the waitress was very tentative. She fried to make sure we are taking care of, so she returned the dish to give it more flavor after communicating with the chef. Still my absolute favorite restaurant in San Antonio! I've been coming here for 4 years and I order the crispy spicy fish and the green beans. My boyfriend orders the twice cooked pork and the dry pot chicken and we eat all of this with white rice. It is absolutely fantastic every single time. The food was really good and there wasn't a wait for a weekday lunch. I ordered the spicy crispy chicken, egg plant with garlic, broccoli and beef, and spicy boiled fish. I think my favorite dish was the spicy crispy chicken and after that the spicy boiled fish. For 3 people, we ordered 4 dishes and it was a lot, I think we would have been fine with just 3 dishes. However, before our food came out, one of the staff members asked my sister and husband to move their baby to another seat because that's where they serve, which was very odd and rude. I think I found a new restaurant to go to for Sichuan food and Hot and Sour soup. Used to go to Sichuan house but after two disappointing visits in a row, I went looking elsewhere. We were eating lighter and just wanted some takeout from Sichuan Garden. Got Hot and Sour soup and was not disappointed. Rich and thick and full bodied taste with just the right heat. Also had the Chengdum dumplings and they were really good. The best authentic Chinese-Sichuan restaurant in SA - totally beats Sichuan house on the other side of the city. Excellent food, never too crowded (lots of people don't know this place yet it seems), reasonable price, great food portions, usually fresh ingredients, and nice ambience - what else can you ask? Our top picks are spicy jumping fish fillets (跳跳鱼), crispy spicy chicken (辣子鸡) - you can choose it with bones which is more authentic or no-bones, shredded pork with bamboo (笋尖肉丝), a mild dish that is executed excellently here, cumin lamb (孜然羊肉). Only complaint is that lots of the dishes with different names are actually cooked in a similar manner - we've tried a few different the lamb dishes and they are all more or less similar, with a combination of onions/green peppers on and off. Portions are really good - they don't fake like some restaurants by laying a thin layer of meat over a huge bowl of Napa cabbage. There are only a handful of Chinese restaurants in San Antonio that I think are authentic enough to recommend and Sichuan Garden is most certainly one of them. Sichuan cuisine is the country's fastest growing regional Chinese cuisine and as one of the city's more established spots, I'm pleased to report they're doing it just as well as any. Spacious, clean, and bright are words that come to mind when describing the interior setup. There are plenty of room for all kinds of parties, simple decor and a fun large wallpaper painting. This is a substantial upgrade from their older location, which was smaller and dingy. Overall the food gets a thumbs up. Their crispy spicy chicken (辣子雞) stays true to its Sichuan origins, with a nice amount of crisp and a lot of good heat. I'm not the biggest hot pot person, but their setup was excellent, with a tasty broth and quality ingredients. Their sauteed long beans (四季豆) had a nice snap for each bite and the appropriate spice with just enough ground pork. Even their red oil (cheng du style) wontons (紅油抄手) are delicate and not too oily even when sitting in sauce. Another surprise was their cumin lamb (自然羊肉), which was also spicy, but juicy with each bite. Many others have cited their stir fried eggplant (炒茄子) as worthy, to which I would agree. Service is good. They were really on top of the takeout situation, especially during the pandemic. Phone orders are not an issue and they take credit card here. Prices are not going to be the cheapest, but that's to be expected. Lastly, each time I've been here it's been a ghost town. Here's hoping that changes for them sooner than later. read more

Our little one kept crying for some reason and the waitress came over with some cookies and calmed them down. Found this wonderful gem on Saturday! The staff was very friendly and helpful on the menu items. We ordered two yummy dishes and both were shareable. We ordered the Dry Pot Spicy Shrimp and Roasted Duck. The dry Pot Spicy shrimp was seasoned very nicely. I didn't feel this dish was too spicy or over powering. I thought it was spot on. It does get pretty busy here as we did come here around 5pm and then at 6pm the place was full and there was people picking up orders too. So the wait for the food can take quite a bit of time. Came here with my mom for dinner recently. I have been to this restaurant a few times before but never took the time to write a review. I have never had a bad experience at this place. The staff is always very pleasant and attentive. The restaurant is pretty spacious with plenty of room, and is very clean. There is a lot of variety on the menu, so it can be difficult to decide what to order! For this visit, we started with an order of spring rolls. They came out hot and crispy! For the entree, I chose the spicy cumin lamb with fried rice. I really enjoyed the tenderness and taste of the lamb with the combination of onions and cilantro. I probably should have asked for it to be a little spicer, but it did still have a decent amount of heat. The fried rice was what one would expect.
