This is a great family restaurant. This is an Eau Claire staple. It's been here for decades and still serves great food with great service. Your greeted with a small serving of warm vanilla pudding. I almost always get the chicken gizzards and have since childhood. The hash browns are perfect. Unfortunately the "pie lady" retired, so they have "pie in a cup" instead of the whole Pies. In Eau Claire for a wedding and wanted a place for breakfast rated by the locals. Randy's has been around since 1960 and the decor is like going back in time. If you are going here expecting anything other than diner food, you're going totally the wrong place. Most of the food here is above average, and most of the omelets are excellent. The one thing to avoid is the biscuits and gravy--their gravy had so little flavor when I ordered it that I wondered if they had just made a roux and the forgotten to add the spices and sausage. It's a diner, OK? The cook behind the grill knows what they are doing. My over-medium eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, and those potato pancakes? My gosh, so tender, packed with potatoes and so good! I highly encourage them over hash browns (but my honey's hash browns looked great, too). We had dinner there tonight for the first time. We're in town for a get away weekend and their menu looked good. The food was delivered quickly and was very good. I had a rueben melt with onion rings and my wife had the chicken fajita salad. Prices are good. Our server Madeline was the best - very attentive but not intrusive. All of the staff was friendly. Now that is a classic, and I have to say, straight back to the 60's. Love me some fried chicken gizzards. The rest of the menu is very standard. Exactly what you expect. All done competently, if not awesomely. Deserts are...ok, but you can of course get a shake or a malt, because this is a classic diner. I will say that the all day breakfast is a favorite of mine. I had the Biscuits and Gravy. The gravy was tasteless pap. I think it was just flour and milk. There was no sausage in it. The biscuits themselves were nothing special. Instead of having sausage chunks in the gravy there was a small thin patty on each biscuit. No flavor whatsoever. I added a lot of pepper and a bit of salt but even that couldn't help the non-taste. This restaurant came with pretty good reviews so my wife chose it. We had breakfast around 9:30 on a Thursday and the place was packed. Clearly it is a very popular local place. A few observations impressed me right off: the line moved fast even though a dozen people were in front of us, they had enough staff to seat people, clear and clean tables once a party was finished and they seemed happy to do their jobs. Service isn't a problem here as they have enough of it and once seated the coffee, menu and waitress comes in the proper time with a smile. All great things to build repeat customers. Now the food: Argh, very common, slightly tasteless and seemed like what you get at a truck stop diner on the interstate. My omelet needed salt then cholula to get it to have any flavor. The cheese was boring. In WI, boring cheese? Come on ! My wife had a potato pancake dish that wasn't what we expected either and not really very good. We didn't finish either meal. In summary the staff is on it, pleasant and professional, the prices are reasonable but the food is very, very ordinary. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place overall. Initially when I saw the menu with mostly fried food, and a few exceptions, I didn't understand why a local recommended the place and told me it "was world famous." I seriously doubt it has ever been world famous but it seems to be a popular choice in this town at least. It's a true family restaurant. Families with kids of all ages were eating dinner as I was. Adults of all ages were as well. I was among a grandmother paying lots of attention to a young addition to the family, and lots of more rambunctious young boys being boys while their parents ate. There were also ix couples of young adults all dressed up,perhaps eating before heading to a fun spot nearby for the evening. I started off with an 11-bean soup. Bland but easily fixed with hot sauce. Not wanting fried food, I gave into the special of the night, 1/4 rack of barbecue ribs with a side salad and potato. The ribs were done just right, fell off the bone. The rest was okay, too. Service was lacking. I was abandoned one the server delivered the food. She left the check, never checked on me and after 20 minutes without a refill of the initial glass of ice tea, I finally asked another server for the refill. That is why 3, not 4 stars. read more

Today we are here to update a review. I've eaten at Randy's many times these last few years. The service is always kind and prompt. The team is focused and knows the job. We usually do breakfast . The coffee is good and they often have a flavored one as a special. I get either the biscuits and gravy with a sausage patty on the side or eggs Benedict . Both very good examples of the genre . I will say I do think the hollandaise is from a can and the sausage gravy too. Food service I assume. Tell me I'm wrong and I will recant ! I'm giving this 4 stars as I think the food is decent and the service is good. It's a great place for breakfast oh...and they have really good baked goods. So we were on a road trip traveling back from Minnesota, and the group wanted home cooking, and an easy atmosphere for lunch. We found our spot at Randy's. This is your feel good comfort food kind of place. The restaurant was filled with locals, and they were busy. The waitstaff was nice and took care of everyone's needs at the table. They are eager to please and bring you a sample of the warm pudding before your meal. The menu was mostly brunch items, but they do offer dinner and kids menus. The food was tasty and not too salty. I enjoyed my traditional breakfast and so did the others. Bacon was crisp, hash browns were cooked throughly, and my egg whites were fluffy. Been to Randy's a handful of times and it's such a nice lil spot. Has a very cozy vibe, old school, and the servers have been nothing but wonderful. The friendly staff, and the low prices (aver 5-12 bucks for breakfast) makes this place a lil gem off the highway. I'm a huge breakfast guy and have been working my way through the staples. Biscuits and gravy were super solid, I got two biscuit with the sausage gravy and eggs and hash brown. So. Much. Food. For a great price. Wasn't very impressed with the omelet as the eggs were very thin, but to each their own. Just finished up the Chicken Tenders breakfast with two eggs, gravy, hash brown and toast. I would highly recommend substituting the regular hash for the garden hash (inc. This is one of the best family restaurants that I've been to and I completely understand the high reviews after stopping in on a Monday night. The waitress promptly greeted us and brought some warm vanilla pudding as a complimentary appetizer. It was quite tasty and I guess the pudding that they use in their pies. We then had a few questions and she was super helpful to us in making our dining decisions. We ended up ordering the cheesecurds as an appetizer. They were pretty standard cheesecurds, nothing necessarily wrong with them, but nothing standout either. My friend ordered the honey mustard chicken melt for his entree and it was very flavorful, although extremely buttery, even for a melt. The honey mustard was stand out however, and homemade. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and instead of the mayo, got a side of honey mustard. This was definitely the correct decision. After all this food, we didn't have room for dessert, but the pies and other desserts looked excellent. We asked the girl at the cash register what her favorite was and she gave us a list of 5, this is definitely a good sign for the restaurant! Fine family restaurant located off I-94 in Eau Claire. This was a perfect place to stop for a filling meal on our journey between Milwaukee and Minneapolis. It is also a favorite with locals who appreciate homemade food and fair prices. There is something for everybody here soups, sandwiches, burgers, breakfast and so on. They also feature daily specials like a Friday fish fry. You can't go wrong. Our group ordered a mushroom swiss burger, a tuna melt and a honey mustard chicken melt. Each came with a choice of potato and a soup or salad. Everything was delicious and everyone was happy with their selections. The place isn't huge. Dining area has two sides with a mixture of tables and booths. It can be busy but they try to seat you right away if there is space available. Service is wonderful. My review is solely based on dinner. From the menu and other reviews it's clear this is the place to come for breakfast (served all day) As it was I didn't order breakfast. Who of us wouldn't be happy to be treated with a sampling of warm pudding.....yum! Prices reasonable, menu very heavy on the breakfast options. My server Amanda G was great! Such great customer service. I really enjoyed the bowl of chicken dumpling soup..very flavorful... The gizzards appetizer was a good size portion easily shareable...the flavor just ok. The hot beef dinner (think gravy covering potatoes and a sandwich) wasn't up my alley. The shredded beef was good, but felt the gravy was lacking flavor. Kudos to real mashed potatoes! It can with cranberry sauce...this would have been great with turkey! Alas the only option was beef or pork. In my way to pay I saw the cookies and grabbed a bag to go. Peanut butter...again just ok. The deserts in the case are the place to be obviously...remember that pudding? Again don't let my review steer you away if it's breakfast that you are looking for. read more

Randy's is a all time favorite when family is in town or waiting after surgery to be done! My mom just had surgery yesterday so my aunt, sisters and I got together at Randy's while we waited for her surgery to be done!
