Never expected to find a gem like this in La Grande. As a Louisiana native, I take beer and bites very seriously. So does this place. So so happy we came in after our drive from Boise. The chicken and rice soup really warmed me up and the stout was a perfect dessert. My friend, a local who insisted we come here to nurse our hangovers, enjoyed a mouthwatering ahi sandwich and dirty fries. Goooood lawd. Perfect. Ok, we legitimately came here three nights in a row when we ventured east to ski at Anthony Lakes. The beer selections were so lovely, I'm sorry we didn't bring a growler back to Salem...maybe I can find some here. The food was great (yup, we had the cauliflower ap every night) and I especially liked the music selections, which were complimented by the singing of the cooks. Today was my first time at Side A Brewing. I had a bowl of Tomato Bisque w/ Baquette. I asked for some butter for the bread. The soup was overly acidic, as though they had added some orange juice to it. Tomato soup has plenty of acidity as it is, so it does not benefit from an increase in acidity. The "baguette" was no baguette. The bread was stale. The butter was a huge chunk that was clearly sliced off in the kitchen from an unsalted cube. Always looking for great brewery restaurants when we are travelling and this one did not disappoint. Service was top notch! I asked if there were mushrooms in a menu item and they brought me out a list of all of the ingredients! Beers were very good. Inside atmosphere is an industrial style with large group style seating tables. We chose to sit outside though as they let us have our dog out there. The outside is an area of the back alley that they have bordered in to make it feel like a patio - nice area for warm day outside dining. Menu was somewhat small but everything looked good. I settled on the Grilled Cheese & Tomato with Bacon added and Mr got the House Burger and Dirty Fries. Both were - YUM! We will definitely visit again if we are in the area! read more

Was looking for things to do in La Grande with my son and found this fire house museum. There was a sign on the door that they weren't going to be open until 4 that day. So we decided that we would come back later and holy fricken cow! The wait was more than worth it. The entrance is off the restaurant/bar/brewery. If you leave this place hungry then you have a tape worm or some other syndrome. I've never seen my 13 y.o. son eat fries without ketchup but they were so good he couldn't finish his grilled cheese, which I happily did for him. The grilled cheese was absolutely phenomenal! The fries with green onions and parm are probably some of the best fries I ever had. We got a burger to go for great grandpa who's lived in La Grande since 2008 and didn't know about this place. One bite of the cheeseburger and the old man was in heaven. He said it'd been years since he had a burger that good. If you're in La Grande this is a must stop. If you just pass by then you've missed out on the opportunity to have a symphony of taste bud orgasms! read more

Side A Brewing is doing everything right! We are from out of town and just passing through and wanted to get a beer and a burger. They make all their beers and there were eleven choices. Of course we got a couple of flights so we could try most all of them. We were not disappointed! Then to the burgers, I had the Ahi Tuna Sandwich while my husband tried the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. The Ahi Tuna was served medium rare on a Brioche bun, and served with a Wasabi sauce. It was delicious! My husband was very happy with the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger as it was a nostalgic reminder of his youth eating PB and pickle sandwiches. Me & my wife go here semi regularly, and try to mix up what we order. I usually get the pork sandwich, she gets the Kale Ceasar w/grilled chicken added. And we get an order of Korean pork tacos to share. They also have fantastic burgers and a good selection of in house beers. ONLY thing I have not liked from them (and this is likely just a taste in food opinion) is the pesto(?) pizza with mushrooms. It was just not my thing. Our entire group was really impressed with this place. We came for lunch and they were doing a great job about being diligent with their COVID prevention practices while still maintaining a nice atmosphere. The food was excellent!! The ahi sandwich was amazing. It was a huge thick piece of ahi that was cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. The vegetables were very fresh too. The chicken sandwich and dirty chicken salad were also excellent and it's some of the best fried chicken I've had. Super juicy with a nice breading that wasn't oily and once again seasoned very well. The only thing we noticed is that everything including the soup (although it was a curry based soup so not surprising) were all a bit spicy. I find that delicious, but for some people who are sensitive to spice you might want to talk to the staff and ask if you can make a modification or if there's another dish that isn't spicy. Finally the beers are really on point! My favorite was their IPA, but we also had the red and amber and they were excellent. Overall, we really enjoyed it! If I ever have another reason to go to our through La Grande I'll be stopping here! read more

Okay, I don't hand out 5 stars that frequently. Side A is a 5+. Anywhere in the country this place would be awesome. In a nice, small town that my wife and I really enjoy, this is an even bigger gem. First the beer. Nice selection and descriptions. We both started with a black lager. Truly a great beer, full flavor with a lot of malty goodness. A beer that is great on it's own, or that pairs well with food. We then tried a red ale. It was also outstanding. It had a perfect bite and crispness to it, and a flavor profile you can really appreciate as it changes as it rolls along your tongue. The food menu selections are varied and it was tough to settle on something because there were so many things that sounded great. I ordered the Ahi sandwich. It was perfectly crusted and cooked. The wasabi mayo was absolutely perfect. I will be tempted to order it next time, because it was so good, but I will force myself to try one of the other great sounding menu items, like the enticing sounding pork belly sandwich. The fries may be the best fries I've ever had. Seasoned to perfection, awesomely crispy. My wife ordered their house burger. It included some very tasty smoked gouda. I'm pretty sure her eyes rolled back in her head a bit when she took the first bite. I tried a bite and it was indeed a great burger, with a well thought out, perfectly balanced group of fixings. Service was super friendly and our questions were fully answered with an obvious enthusiasm for what they are putting out. The atmosphere is extremely comfortable and there is a great vibe. Hmmm maybe they're all related. Them brewing a lager is the bunk. They will bring you a "Rainer" beeeeeeeeeer if you want a lager, since they don't brew any. This joint is LOUD whether they gots a band or not. It's just LOUD in there, moreso when it's busy. The chow is ok, still, spreading peanut butter on a hamburger does not a Hell's Kitchen chef make. Go on, call Gordon yourself and ask him, don't take my word for it, don't be shy, call him and ask. Nor does sprinkling some seasoning on Frenchie Fries an say'in they're "dirty". That sort of thing impresses the daisys pass'in thru and college kids as you can read in the reviews, but those sorts of folks are easily impressed aren't they? The staff is superb, excellent, fast and friendly. The joint itself is clean and tidy. Ordered drinks and dinner, service was quick. The cider on tap was very good, the food not so much. Mac & cheese was poor, hardly any cheese taste to it. Ordered a dirty chicken salad and burger which were fine but nothing to write home about. Met some friends there the next night (Saturday) showed up at 6pm and the place was packed. 45 minute wait for a table. We were able to enjoy a beverage in the side museum. When we got a table the place had cleared out very much, only 2-3 tables with guests. Service took forever to take drink orders and food order. The time from taking our order and food being served was over an hour, mind you there were only maybe a dozen people in the restaurant at this time. Food came, fries were cold. Server didn't bring cup of soup that was ordered. When it came to paying bill he was reluctant to not charge for the soup, the soup that was never served. This spot is a great addition to this once sleepy mill town. We've come to La Grande for years as we have family who live here. I've seen many a biz come and go, it's a hard town to make a living in. The winters are brutal....brutal. The owners here have done a good job of bringing a brew pub vibe to La Grande. The place was clean, beer was good and food was great. I had a Fried Chicken Sand with fries that were fresh cut, both were delish. La Grande has a small 4 yr university here and you see more kids working in various places, again this is awesome to see. The food is fresh, locally sourced and unbelievably delicious. Their IPAs are distinct and clearly not copy-cats of each other or anyone else making NW IPAs. The pork was tender with perfect spice and kimchi flavor. The simple salad was a healthy serving of fresh spring mix, which was much appreciated on a veggie-lacking cross country road trip. The burger is a deliciously thick patty with fine attention to detail on the sauce, crispy hot fries, the hazy IPA, IPA, and creative beers were all fantastic. I am impressed. Oh so yummy food. We had hamburgers - mine was Simple Burger, hubby was house burger. The meat is grass feed from Corriente - so juicy & flavorful. Given the difficulty with all the restrictions due to Covid they did great. Awesome staff who were super friendly, the online ordering was seamless and ready when it said it would be. Beer was outstanding and the salad fresh. The Ahi Tuna was a little overcooked for my liking but then again it was tasty enough, especially being this far inland. :). Very loud rock playing, so there's no point to having a conversation. Burgers are thick, which is not bad, but the buns can't keep them together, so it gets messy quick. Fries are leathery and way over-cooked, although the combo of sauce and cheese covers the bad tasting fries fairly well if you order them "dirty,". Of course the beer is amazing. The Copper and Gold is always on tap and my personal favorite, but I always get a flight of their rotating taps. They put a lot of care into their creations. The food is equally delicious and pairs perfectly with a cold beer. Definitely get the dirty fries and Korean tacos, but save room for one of their mouth-watering burgers. If you're like me, you don't save room for dessert but get it anyway. All their ingredients are sourced locally and are of the highest quality. They have a very friendly wait staff and everyone seems to know everyone. They offer live music at night and great events throughout the year. La Grande is usually a stopover in your way to somewhere else along I-84, so be sure to stop here along the way. read more

Had the Oregon Fog Hazy IPA and the house bacon cheeseburger. Burger was cooked more than I prefer but next time I'll just ask that it be cooked less. The burger also kinda fell apart on me because of the tomato compote on it. I supposed the steak knife holding it together was a sign I should have cut it in half. My burger was accompanied by a pile of fries I couldn't even but a dent into. But they were a nice, crispy fry that I quite enjoy and if I wasn't trying to watch my portions I would have enjoyed more of them. Service was also excellent. I really appreciate that my server remembered my water with my beer. I've had too many experiences lately where I order an adult beverage and a water and the water never shows up... I love that this brew pub is in an old fire station and that they have tried to maintain the regional firefighting museum that I assume once took over the entire place. The museum really needs some TLC and while I understand the priority is the restaurant it was obvious some of the displays were missing things. It also bummed me out to see the memorial display of the museum founder's turnouts kind of hidden in a corner. But that all being said if the opportunity presents itself I will be back to try other beers and food. Has a ton of potential if they tweek a few things. Chicken sandwich and peanut butter burger awesome! The pork tacos and Mac & Cheese were ok. If the Mac had more cheese it would have been much better . The music volume is ridiculous. If you have tinnitus or any previous ear damage I would wear ear plugs. I will never understand why places insist on having volume this loud. Litteraly have to raise your voice to have a conversation at your table and wear heating protection, especially if you have hearing damage. HEAT.... everyone was wearing coats and hats because it was so cold. There is no need to keep the heat off when it is 40° outside. Staff is super friendly and the wait is no issue since you can tour the museum.
