My one buddies Brother chimed in and started talking about Sidecar Donuts. I had heard the name before, but had never had a chance to try them out. I placed my order online and used that coupon and went with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, a Choc-A-Lot, a Butter & Salt, and a Lemon Pound Cake donut. Total was around $9.00 for my 2 donuts I paid for. Definitely aint cheap! How were they? Choc-A-Lot- Liked this one the least. It was a raised donut with chocolate icing and chocolate nibs. The nibs were the best part. The donut itself, I preferred the other ones we got, cake style. The donut was not sweet, either, especially for a chocolate donut. Wouldn't get this one again. Butter & Salt- Wow! So simple, and so bomb! A great vanilla bean cake donut with a brown butter glaze and a hint of salt. Really delicious and would get again! Lemon Pound Cake- When I arrived, this one was being freshly made. It was also my favorite. It was hot out of the fryer, The lemon pound cake and the lemon glaze was so good! We received the donuts as a gift from another work department for helping them out. The dough for the donut was a good mix in with the egg and, it was not the taste of a typical donut and it was soft on the inside and firm on the outside and not chewy at all. The mix of the dough and egg was good mix, as the taste of the dough was not over shadowed by the taste of the egg. I then took another bite to taste the white icing used on the donut and the taste of the bacon. It was a good mix of the two, as you could taste the bacon and the icing mix. Neither one over powered the other, as you can taste the bacon and the salty taste of it and then the sweet taste of the icing right behind it or the other way around. depending on how bite in to the donut. Review for vegan lemonade only- $5.50 for the vegan doughnut yikes! Prices have gone up. Being a big fan of lemon, I couldn't wait to try this one. Drum roll...cake consistency with a hint of lemon. Tried the Manhattan Beach location out yesterday and had a pleasant experience. I ordered the seasonal blueberry champagne doughnut as well as an iced lavender latte . The stand out was the blueberry champagne filling . Probably one of the best donut fillings I've ever had . The rest of the doughnut which was just okay at first when eaten cold . After a quick 10-15 seconds in the microwave the blueberry glazed brioche transformed into a decadent punchy tart delight . My Lavender latte wasn't bad either . I've seen Sidecar so many times in the past and I finally got to try it. All and all I'd say they have some quality coffee & donut flavors, but you've gotta pay for it. ITEM'S ORDERED: Vanilla Latte Huckleberry Butter & Salt Holiday Jam Sufganiyot TASTE: I was impressed with the Vanilla Latte since it's definitely one of best I've had in quite awhile. The main problem I usually find with vanilla lattes is they are too (artificially) sweet and/or too weak in coffee flavor. This one had a good balance between the two and the vanilla flavor tasted really good. The Huckleberry donut has such a nice color it almost looks fake. I'm not too sure what fresh huckleberry but I'd say this donut has a blueberry/cranberry type of flavor. It as first might come across as too tart to some people, but I think it works well with the overall sweetness. The Butter & Salt was the all-star here and I can why it is a favorite. I have to note that I actually waited for a fresh batch so this one was warm and indeed fresh. It tasted like a fresh, warm, cake donut with the salt coming through for a nice balance. The Holiday Jam Sufganiyot is a seasonal offering and basically a glorified jelly donut. Maybe it's because the Butter & Salt was so fresh, but this one seemed a little dry for me. Service: Service was great and mainly the one lady whom I interacted with (manager/owner?) was very genuinely friendly and inviting. Always much appreciated. Location & Parking: They are located right near the Manhattan Village Mall with plenty of surrounding parking, so don't be worried about that. It's a nice, clean, warm interior which works well for this more modern donut shop vibe. There is no inside seating but there are a couple of tables outside with chairs. They have some interesting flavors that I'd like to try on another visit and I can taste the quality here, but again I know I'll have to pay for it. To start , the environment and workers were very welcoming and friendly, they walked me through creating an account with ease . Next , they had a great variety of donuts. With some traditional flavors as well as some more unique ones like huckleberry ! I ended up going with Butter and Salt, a cake doughnut that was both sweet and salty. They are located in the Manhattan Beach Village near a driveway entrance at the middle of the whole shopping center. It is oddly on an island next to a Smashburger. I LOVE Sidecar! Today, I ordered donuts through the Too Good To Go app. When I got there, the door to the shop was open, so I walked in. There was a lady there with red hair and tall. "We're closed!" Real snippy. I said, "I ordered from the..." before I could finish, she interrupted, "You have to wait outside." Clearly she was ready to go home. So she helped the customer in front of me. Then when it was my turn I told her (again) I had an order. "You have to go to the app." So, I go to the Too Good app, but it's updating. I let her know. There was someone behind me, so I moved to the side and let that customer go. When I get to the window I have the app open, but there is nothing that indicates I placed an order, so I go to my email. Real short and irritated, she says, "You need to pull it up in the app." I told her I went to the app, but nothing was coming up. I show her the email. "It needs to be in the app." I show her that I'm back in the app, but there is nothing showing that I made a purchase and say as much. "That's why I'm in the email," I explained. She snaps, "Does it show that you made a purchase?" I begin to read all of the particulars from the email. Including the address of the place and that I purchased one order. She almost reluctantly handed me the bag, barking, "Next time you need to show it in the app." I was walking away as she was speaking. Rude! No idea of what customer service is. Not helpful and quite impatient. If the redheaded chick doesn't want to be pleasant, she should work at Sidecar. Not a good look...at ALL! OK, I'll acknowledge that mine is the minority opinion. But I didn't like Sidecar Doughnuts. There I said it and I stand by it! The same combo I get at my regular donut shop since I thought it would be a good comparison. Vanilla Bean Glazed was not bad but the texture was a little springy and it could've had more flavor. Maple Bacon was bad the flavors just tasted off, especially the maple, and a little bland for what I expected. As I continued to eat it the flavor got worse not better. Latte was the best thing here, Common Room Roasters make good beans, but it's not the best coffee in the building so this won't be bringing me back either. The shop is clean & nicely decorated.
