Stopped by Dough Boy Donuts on my way to work for a few Donuts. They are conveniently located just off imperial highway on my way to LAX. Ordered a Boston cream and apple fritter. The apple fritter was sort of meh. Not bad but not really note worthy either. The Boston cream was better but still not great. The 2 ladies working were peppy and cheerful, especially considering that it was 5:15 AM. I found myself in the neighborhood and wanting a sweet treat. Dough Boys was closest and I love a good donut so I thought I'd check it out. Upon arriving it did not look like your quintessential donut shop but I didn't let that deter me. I ordered a cinnamon donut and was surprised to be charged $3 after checking out the menu online. Since the one I ordered was a larger one I assumed I must have misread the menu. After already heading home I checked again to not see any donut for more than $1.50. After tasting the donut I was even more upset. Tasted more like plastic wrapping than a donut. But ultimately I was more upset about getting charged double for this inedible item. The shop is small but cute! It could use a paint job I guess, but when you're dealing with fried food you kinda want a shop that's a little weathered, cause like, if a shop is spotless, it means they're not very busy. There's never really a line here, and when there is, theres never a long wait. The parking situation is kinda weird to be honest, but everyone who comes here is in and out within a few minutes. So how are the donuts? Oh buddy, simple the best glazed donut I've had in a few years. Big, fluffy, not doughy, not over cooked, simply just a mouth melter. I'm not sure who said donuts are empty calories but ignore that: you get a real solid satisfaction from every donut here. Something they advertise that isn't mentioned enough on Yelp or Google is the Giant Donut! You need to place the order one or two days in advance, but you get to choose your icing and toppings. It's really cheap for what it is (just $15.50 as of 2024), and it's just oh so delicious. I got one for my birthday yesterday and I've just about devoured it. I'm not a (dough)nut lover by any means, but I do love a real pasty or a really good cruller. Dough Boy Donuts has at least one that I enjoy now and then. The cruller. Crullers are difficult to find in the South Bay. Even more difficult is finding a good one. Again, DBD has pretty good crullers. A bit too much frosting, but I just pick some of is off. Wish they had plain (no frosting) ones though. You are always welcomed as you enter the store and thanked as you pay and leave. Each server are very sweet and welcoming. You leave feeling like they really appreciated you visiting their store. It's not a big store, so I have never stayed long enough to experience the Ambiance. Although it feels like a great place to hang around and enjoy the regulars. I drive about 30 minutes to pickup a few crullers. Take them to the near by El Porto beach, after stopping at the service station near the beach for a cup of coffee. DBD's coffee isn't bad. Just not to my liking. Actually, neither is the gas station's coffee. But, it is just a little better, with more things available to add to my coffee. read more

I hadn't had a donut in about 3 years and came here to get some donuts for some family that was in town. HOLY MOLY these donuts are soooooo good. When I was younger I like Chocolate Frosted Glazed and Dough Boy's are awesome. I hated cake donuts as a kid...they were always too dry and had a kind of crust on them. Dough Boy's Cake Donuts are absolutely amazing.....so moist and fresh....always. I think we've tried just about every donut they offer and they were all quality. I was eating donuts a few times a decade and since this summer we go here once a week! Seriously. Bruce is awesome....consistently friendly and welcoming. I went to this donut shop recently, as I was on the way to Manhattan Beach. I went in and I thought it was a small clean shop. I realized there were some flies on the donuts so I didn't want any. I talk to the guy at the cash register he was a bit rude so the service was lacking and the food wasn't very well. I picked a strawberry and banana smoothie.
