Sidecar is definitely the spot to be at. It was very crowded for a Saturday night and the staff was working overtime. There were two parties and the floor had no seats open when we first checked in. They were asking for reservations but normally they don't do reservations so we weren't sure about that but we got called right away. The drinks were so delicious and fancy! I only took videos and no still pics of them but all the drinks we ordered were delicious. My favorite was the lavender bees knees. read more

My husband and I finally had a chance to imbibe at Sidecar last Friday night and it exceeded our already high expectations! Our favorite bartender from the Green Lantern, Ryan, started working here full time when it opened back in the fall and it's been high on our list of cocktail bars to visit. Located in the basement of the historic Prince Solms Inn, Sidecar feels like stepping back into a Prohibition era speakeasy. You can immediately sense a vibe or energy that is both welcoming and free spirited. It gets busy quickly especially on Friday and Saturday evenings but we were able to beat the crowd and find the perfect table to people watch and take in the charm. Sidecar's drink menu features crafted cocktails that can accommodate any palate and taste. If you're still not sure what to pick the employees working here are eager to recommend and concoct a drink to your preference. They also have appetizers and small plates available nightly in addition to a $20 steak dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. I ventured out on a Saturday night in search of a hot band and a cold drink and found a cool, hidden little speakeasy. Ok maybe not so hidden but I was planning to go to Muck & Fuss next door but really wanted a cocktail instead of beer. So lo and behold, I noticed the Sidecar sign and stepped back in time to a world of creative cocktail, jazzy music and exquisite decor. Such a perfect little spot to dress up and enjoy a date night, girls night or special private event. Okayyyy, New Braunfels, i see you . The only thing that would have been better for me is to move the Soul Sessions band playing at M&F into Sidecar. Fortunately I was told they do play there on certain Thursday nights. Heaven! Soul Sessions, I'm told, is a large band that plays a variety of music and rotates members to get a different vibe each time. That's nothing against the Jazz band in Side car, they were awesome too! Beautiful and definitely not what you'd expect to find in the middle of New Braunfels, which feels permanently stuck in the great Dust Bowl decade. It's a speakeasy in that it's situated below an Inn, and given everything is operating at a limited capacity at the moment, best to make a reservation. I hope they give you a secret door code when you do! We popped by on Saturday right after they opened and were almost turned away because we didn't have a reservation but luckily they were able to squeeze us in (as long as we departed before they needed the seats). Sitting at the bar gave us access to the lovely bartenders and their artistry first hand. A lot of attention and detail poured ;) into their drink menu. The cocktails were unique, cheeky, and full of seasonal ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon delights! The bites menu is limited but appreciated! It's definitely a complement to the beverage program. Heads up that the Mediterranean salad isn't really a salad (if you're looking for some bountiful leafy creation!), it's more of a caprese with Mediterranean fixins. read more

Always great ambience for an intimate date, or girls night. Have been several times for private parties but not always just for an evening out. Waitstaff has always been wonderful. This place disappointed Again, I reserved weeks in advance for a twin 50th birthday for December 29, and when we got there there they had absolutely no food or appetizers, we fast and had a party of 7 to enjoy food and drinks and they said they ran out. Love this place. Great date night. High marks for creative cocktails, great attentive service, fun speakeasy atmosphere. Love the piano music early in evening, but prefer seating on far end as it's hard to talk over the music if you want to chat. The food is all tapas style -- appetizers. Two of us made a light meal of 3 dishes, but it's not super filling if expecting dinner. I think they used to offer full dinner specials, but likely no more. Would not recommend for a large group -- for that go to the upstairs restaurant. Reservations are highly suggested to get a good seat. Later in night they have a jazz band. Worth coming back for that. Sadly, no vegan options. Likely not a big draw in this small meat eating town. :-( read more

This place is so fun. My bf and I are old souls and do not like hanging around people our age; it's always someone getting stabbed or shot up. Sidecar is an almost close of "Skull rainbow room" in Nashville, TN painters alley and a downgraded version of the red phone booth, an exclusive prohibition experience speakeasy with dress code& a yearly membership(not a downgrade in a bad way just anyone can get in). My bf and I have only have the finger food, e cause we always eat before going to drink, but the finger food is so good. The only "bad" thing about this place is there is no dress code, you have people coming in in flip flops and shorts, dressed like they are going mid Saturday grocery shopping or just came back from finishing(nothing wrong with fishing, just not when you go dressed like this to a decent looking bar) Happy hour 4-6 $5 great drinks and the pianist/band starts playing at 5, always a show to watch. This is a very cool speakeasy style bar in downtown Braunfels. Right next to Muck & Fuss and in the basement of a very old hotel, the sidecar is a great place to grab a drink, while waiting for your table or they have a great noshie snacks in there too. When you accidentally show up on "Grand Opening" night.... yeah.... Thinking they had been open for a few weeks we rolled in for something strong. Strong is exactly what we got. Thank you! The old fashioned and thyme cocktail were so good. Both with unique flavors but not so far out there that they become weird. Truly enjoyable drinks. Then the sidecar and a bee's knees. Sweet but good as well. Drinks are around $10 and they also have beer, wine, and a good selection of spirits. Going early like this, the crowd was mostly old but a good mix and it was very busy. To accommodate this, waiters come to you wherever you find a spot to rest your clutch. No need to go up to the bar and try to squeeze in because it is small. It's very dark, candlelight would be nice but dang it is cute up in there! The renovated/restored basement is a great space. Looking forward to going back on a Tuesday or something. read more

Never knew about this place! Swanky speakeasy style underground bar in NB. Small and very vintage. Love the environment. Live blues/jazz was great.
