We were greeted and seated promptly and served just as fast. The food was exceptionally good, not what you expect from a "hole in the wall" place if you're from a larger city. The kids menu had the cutest names such as "are we there yet" and "I'm not hungry." However, The ranch tasted like tartar sauce and the bathroom smelled like sewage. Just a few more feet off the highway 40. Worth the few extra blocks. It's the kind of restaurant your looking for when driving across country. Steak and eggs for both of us. I usually have them bring out the A1 just in case. Didn't need it. Steak was prepared proper and seasoned to perfection. It was tasty, no A1 needed. Good endless cup of coffee. Pleasant staff. We are loving most of our stops along Route 66, however, this one I can't give more than 3 stars. The atmosphere is fun, very busy, obviously locals frequent this place. I think maybe we should have ordered breakfast- the sandwiches were "eh" at best. My daughter and I both got a sandwich with avocado. I've never seen an avocado that's the same color as a dill pickle. We thought they were pickles- but nope- avocado. Our sandwiches were also literally dripping water or liquid of some sort. Soggy and bland. The waffle fries were good. My other daughter got a grilled cheese and that wasn't bad. Overall- fun experience but good was icky. Service was fine. If you go- order breakfast- that seemed to be a very popular choice! read more

Delicious food! They had mostly breakfast options but also have your classic sandwich, burger and salad options. I appreciate the originality in some of the dishes, it gets old only having plain old classic pancakes and burgers. I had the chicago burrito (filled with eggs, chorizo, and beans) topped off with red sauce and cheese. Never would have thought it would all go together so well and I'm glad they proved me wrong! This is what an American Breakfast should be. Pay close attention because I've breakfasted around the country and this is up there with the tops of them. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. Each were perfectly cooked. Eggs came out basted perfectly and the pancakes are some of the best i've ever had...they literally melted in my mouth. Coffee was kinda crappy but I didn't care so much because the hash browns, along with everything else we ate were cooked to perfection. A must stop for breakfast. The locals were super friendly as well since the highway was closed off and they helped us map a route south to get around a major snow storm. Driving past the other options for breakfast also showed them to look rather shady and not as cool or as delicious as Kix. read more

Stopped on the yelp advice and timing was right. Huevos rancheros for me, just bisquits and gravy for my daughter. While waiting for our order, I noticed how clean the place was including what I could see of the kitchen. Food was superb for a little diner- couldn't finish even though I really wanted to. Great little diner off of I-40 on old Route 66. After a bad breakfast experience at a hotel in Amarillo, we stopped here to get something to eat. It was early morning and middle of the week and there was no line! Service was quick and prices were very reasonable. I think with 2 entrees, an order of donuts, and a tip it was about $20. My wife had the pancakes which she said were some of the best she ever had. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy and it didn't disappoint. read more

We were staying down the street at the Blue Swallow and they recommended that we eat here. We came for breakfast and I'm glad we did. They have a great menu with lot's of taste tempting things to fill you up. We sat down and were greeted by our friendly server who immediately poured us delicious hot coffee. My wife got the biscuits and gravy. Three biscuits and a huge bowl of thick white gravy. It was delicious and way more than she could eat. I ordered the Smothered Burrito with green chili sauce. It was stuffed with eggs, bacon, cheese, beans and topped with verde sauce. I was scrumptious. They play 50's music and the serves are dressed in period aprons. It is not a large place so it was full of folks the whole time we were there. The restrooms were spotless. They also have a coffee bar where you can order smoothies, lattes and capuchino. We wanted to see the Iconic Rt 66 on our way west from Tucumcari. Unfortunately this part of RT 66 was not what it used to be but a few iconic motels and restaurants were still open and in great shape. Looking for the true 1960's diner experience we stopped at Kix on 66 for lunch. My only goal was to sit at the counter and have a cheeseburger and milkshake. We were not disappointed. With classic 50s/60s music playing in the background we sat at the counter and ordered the cheeseburger with all the fixings and vanilla milkshakes. The food was served quickly and was fresh and hot. I had the double cheeseburger with bacon and my wife the single and we both agreed that it was the best burger we had in a long time. The milkshake with whipped cream on top was icing on the cake. We are both not old enough to be part of this generation but for 1 hour we were in a time warp. We do hope that the shops and establishments that are still holding on, on this stretch of RT66 can find new investors and better marketing to revive this 3 mile stretch of Americana. We certainly hope so and if you decide to get of I-40 to see what once was, definitely stop at the Kix on 66. read more

While traveling across country I found myself staying the night in good ol' Tucumcari. While checking out the next morning I asked the guest services at my hotel, "Where can I find a good cup of coffee, and a nice breakfast somewhere local?" They suggested Kix, and I'm glad for it. I was seated pretty quick, and as there was no one really there it was to be expected. I asked what I should try, and my server gave me her favs. I went with the NM Quesadilla with sausage, and a cup of house brew. It was great... the green chiles were awesome, the eggs and sausage cooked just right, and the salsa. The salsa was the perfect addition to it all. Plus the coffee was exactly what I was looking for as well. All in all, it was a great place to stop for a meal. Good service, quick food, and decently priced. I don't think you can go wrong. If you're traveling through on the old Route 66 it's worth the stop. read more

We stopped here for a quick lunch driving from Dallas to Colorado. It was very quick and very good. I had patty melt and sweet potato fries. Both done to perfection. Really enjoyed this stop on our way back to Las Vegas. We stopped for the green chile burger and it was well worth it. We had our dog with us and they offer patio seating so you don't have to leave your pup in the car while you eat, plus they even have a pet menu! The burger was juicy and had a nice little kick from the chiles. The best part is we got to drive on historic Route 66 which was a cool little drive off the main 40 west. For a nostalgic blast from the past this place can't be missed. A retro diner with diner food, but the staff is very friendly and the food is good. Went for lunch and had the New Mexican burger (be prepared for those hot chilis!) and of course a milk shake. Huevos Rancheros was delicious! Only one slight problem I ordered green sauce and got red. It happened to someone else too, think the cook was on a red sauce kick. I was ordering a couple of scrambled eggs for my picky dog, and the waitress brought me the canine menu! Loved it!! Great place! read more
