Visiting the Tryon area for the weekend and found this pizza place on yelp. When we arrived there was a short waiting line and it was clear this was a family friendly establishment with lots of parents and kids. This was the best pizza I've had in awhile. The medium was the size I expect of a large in most places but it was less than $11.00 for a two topping medium pizza. And it was delicious. This is what pizza should taste like!! We also had a small salad that was much larger than I would have expected. This was an unexpected dining delight. Wow, I love this place. The food is fantastic, from the cheese filled garlic bread, to the fried mushrooms, to the pizza. The service is slow on the take off, but after you finally get waited on, the service is pretty good. I think its due more to the fact that it stays so busy, and they don't have enough waiters/waitresses!!! But I'd give it an easy 10 based on the food!!!! read more

We were looking for somewhere to eat in the Tryon area and found this place on yelp. The reviews were good and we were not sorry that we stopped in here the only thing that I would have changed was that our server was not overly friendly and made us feel rushed. When she approach the table all she said was what can I get you to drink. We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer or and they were fantastic. The Caesar salad was served chilled which I absolutely love and you don't get in a lot of places. We then order the pizza and I had to admit that it was one of the best pizzas we have had in a long time. The restaurant was a little small inside but very comfortable and quaint. Even though our server made us feel a little unwelcome, I would still go back there because the food was great. read more

Inexpensive? Yes. Cheap? Yes. Delicious? Nope. Decent quality? Nada. Soggy crust and sauce that doesn't even come close to basic canned Ragu. Maybe they can learn how to spice properly and learn what garlic is. Pretty sure Dominos or store bought frozen would have been better. And I think both of those are trash. I have started to write this review a handful of times already this evening, and keep deleting it because I feel it's too harsh...but, the hour grows late, and I really do need to just knock this out..... This review is based off of 2 visits approximately 2 months apart. So, I'll start with the good. The pizza lived up to it's reputation. It was good. Really good. Not over the top delish...but REALLY GOOD. I would definitely get it again. There is also a private lot with ample parking in the rear of the building, which is a plus considering where it's located....in the heart of Tryon alongside some railroad tracks....not much parking nearby. The place has been very busy both times that I have visited, which is always a good sign. Here's the bad. The actual restaurant has a VERY choppy layout. You have to meander through a hallway that feels like a rat maze in order to get to the bar portion of the restaurant. The dining rooms are totally separate from one another, which again, is very choppy. I'm not a fan of the waiting area either... the benches are too close to one another and are directly across from one another, so you better have short legs, otherwise you will be kicking the person sitting across from you.... oh, and your hips better be good too, because while you are sitting and waiting for a table, MORE guests are trying to walk between your legs to get to the hostess counter...forcing you to wiggle onto our hip so you can sit sideways and let them pass. I mean, I guess it's a good sign that there were so many people there....but, the layout is just a really bad design. They need someone to come in and redo the place. quickly. Also, The waitresses need to take a little more pride in how they present themselves. I can't speak for all of the staff, since I am sure I was only exposed to a few...but, come on....you are in a public position... take some time to look nice for your job. Here's the ugly. My waitress, Amanda, was extremely rude. Someone needs to send her to etiquette school. quickly. There were only three of us. She seemed visibly irritated that two ordered only waters with lemon. We told her that we would need a little time to decide what we wanted and to maybe give us about 10 minutes. She walked away mid-sentence, as we were talking to her, while rolling her eyes. UN-BE-LIEVABLE. We ended up placing an order almost half hour later, and that was the last we saw of her until we went searching for the bill so we could leave. She needs to understand that she is in a public position, and if she is that miserable with her job, perhaps she should consider working for the DMV, where she and her attitude may be better suited. I realize I am not "local"...but I certainly should not be made to feel that way. Oh, and Yelp says they take reservations....they do NOT. This is the best pizza I have ever eaten hands down. I have been up the East Coast for pizza endeavors and I always end up here. And I always say.. yes this is the best. Well worth my 45 minute drive. Prices are insanely affordable considering such awesome quality and taste. I will always come back here. Never a bad visit in twenty years! The best wings I've ever eaten! I am a buffalo wings fanatic, and this place knows how to make them. Almost as important to my hot wing enjoyment is quality bleu cheese dressing, and the bleu cheese was deliciously CHUNKY! Pizza was amazing too, and a sufficient draft beer selection. It is unfortunate that I am compelled to write a negative review on a restaurant that, in the past, was a 4+ star review. Our family decided to go to Side Street for a pre-Mother's Day meal. We needed a "table", not booth, and was told that the only available tables were in the bar area. The bar was empty except for the server/bartender. We were not introduced to her, she stood by to take our drink order even before we seated ourselves and got comfortable. The meal was bleh - pizza didn't taste like it had in past, food was luke warm and when we attempted to relay our disappointment in the food and service, we were nearly chastised by our server. Again, there was no other customers in the bar area until about 25 minutes after we arrived and then it was 2 men drinking at the bar who was a magnet for our server. We just didn't have the same great experience and for me, it will be a looooong time, if ever, to return. Disappointed. read more

This is no joke, Sidestreet Pizza has some of the best Pizza I have ever tasted! This restaurant stays packed most of the time. The biggest problem with this restaurant in my opinion is I feel like they need to get a bigger restaurant. They could sure use it because of the amount of customers that show up. We ate at the Sidestreet restaurant two nights ago in the bar. The place was very crowded and so the service was a little distracted but not terrible. They had a couple of craft beers on draft and a decent bottled selection. The wings were terrific. As good as any I've ever had. We paired that with a thin crust Pepper Pesto pizza which was awesome. Tonight we got takeout. More wings, this time their sweet and spicy Asian, and a thin crust Greek pizza. Worth it again. The place was packed full tonight so we obviously aren't the only ones who appreciate it. Will eat here again if we're ever back this way. read more

I have to preface my remarks by saying that I am a major foodie so having lived in Atlanta and Los Angeles and traveled with my trusty Zagat guide, the bar is pretty high. Considering what is offered in the region for Italian and pizza specifically, it seems that this restaurant is coasting on reputation and yet it is always packed ( by people from Spartanburg and Greenville mostly ) and while not bad, it is probably only the third best pizza in town. I'm a local, so I'm aware of better Pizza Places (Bucks, just down the street). Sidestreet Pizza is usually very crowded during normal lunch or dinner hours, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Service is very slow, ordering, serving and worse, waiting for the check. Depending on the server, service could be rude, incorrect, or fine. Not consistent. Food itself is always good and fresh, but I only go when friends specifically want to eat there. read more

My friends and I went to Side Street this evening, to have as what we have had in the past ,"a wonderful dinner" but since we were waiting on two more guest they refused to seat us. The staff expressed they were following company policy. Our other friends would not arrive for another 45 minutes so I asked again to be seated but they refused. The time of day was 1645 so it was not busy. We were not going to wait 45 minutes so we took our business to The Brick to eat. Side Street lost 5 customers today and we probably will not be back. What a terrible experience! The pizza was okay - nothing great, but not the worst I've had. Everything else was pretty awful, most of all, the service. I've had pizza from Buck's, which is alright, so I thought we'd try Side Street for lunch today. First of all, the restaurant was mostly empty, yet we were seated at the booth right next to the kitchen. The kitchen doesn't have a door dividing it, so we got the treat of listening to the noise from the kitchen during the entire meal. We also had the privilege of watching exactly how long food was sitting in the window before it was run, and some of those pizzas really had time to cool down before they reached the tables. The waitress came and seemed nice enough. Apparently, they don't have a beer or wine list, so our waitress was forced to haphazardly recite as much of the beer selection on tap as she could think of. I would have liked some wine, but it was a bit painful to listen to her rack her brain about it, so I just stuck with a beer. My husband and I decided to split a small pizza just to try it, since they were so reasonably priced. In fact, most of the menu was very reasonable. He also got a sandwich and I decided to go for the eggplant parm. When our food arrived, I was impressed by the portion I got for the price. Unfortunately, I then tasted it. The sauce was generic, bland tomato sauce (lets not pretend it's actually marinara). That, I could live with, even if it didn't make me want to rush back for some pasta. However, the eggplant itself, while there was a good bit of it, had been very finely sliced and then fried to a crisp. It looked like their goal may have been to make eggplant chips, but they burned them. Since they were so thinly sliced and then overcooked, all I could taste was burnt oil. I'm not even entirely certain there was eggplant in the dish as the only thing that seemed to survive the oil was some of the charred breading. My husband's sandwich was bland. The pizza was okay in terms of the actual ingredients, however, the end result was a very wet pie. The sauce is a bit wet plus they put the toppings under the cheese, which caused all of the moisture (we had beef and onions) to go into the crust. By the time it reached the table, it was already a bit of a soggy mess. I told my husband while we were eating that I thought it was a two-star experience, just because I was having a good day. Unfortunately, the next time we saw our waitress after she put down our food was well after we had eaten as much as we could tolerate, finished our beers, and put everything on the side of the table. All she said was, "Box?" We declined and she brought a check several minutes later. Not once did she ask how anything was. Even if she had been slammed (which she clearly wasn't), there's no excuse for not at least checking on a table. Plus, we probably would have had another beer had we ever been offered one. We actually considered not leaving a tip, which we almost never do. In the end, we left her 10%. Perhaps I should have left a note of explanation as well. On the upside, the beer was good. read more

Sidestreet is a very well known place to eat in Tryon. People come from all over the Upstate SC and WNC. There's a reason for it too. The food is good, the service is above average. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star rating is that we always sit in the bar area, and there is normally only 1 person waiting tables there. The times are a little slow, I think they should add another 1-2 waitresses on busy nights. The subs are awesome, the pasta's are good and the Lo-Carb medly is fantastic for those who are watching calories. read more

Been here many, many times but was embarrassed by the waitress at the last visit. She asked if my 23 year old stepdaughter had her ID and then yanked the beer out of her hand when she said she left it home. Apparently a customer complained. My wife then left to go get the ID and the waitress told us we would need to leave since everyone in the party was no longer here to order. We then ordered one small pizza for the kids just to satisfy this overbearing waitress. I think Kem and I are done with this place. Not the way to treat human beings. I really enjoyed eating here. My sister and I stopped after a day of antiquing and brewpub hopping, ready for some hot, melty, cheesy pizza and we were not disappointed. Although the place was pretty busy we got a table right away and our waitress was right there with menus and water. We ordered a medium sized vegetarian pizza and it was plenty for the two of us. Lots of cheese, lots of vegetables, and quite good crust. The ambiance is definitely casual, sort of mid-70s chic and not at all fancy. It is very noisy but everyone seemed to be having a good time and the staff were friendly. The only disappointing thing was their beer selection. It was decidedly uninspired. Despite that, I will definitely be back next time I am down that way. read more

We have been going to Side Street Pizza for over 8 years and even though their service has never been great, the food has been good... Until now. They have changed their menu, removing two of our favorite meals--roast beef sub and lobster ravioli. So we ordered a steak sub and lasagna. The sub was fair. The lasagna was less than fair...no meat, just meat sauce which also has no meat (very little). But true to the usual, the service was poor. To be a restaurant which has had such a popular following in the region, it is moving in the wrong direction. My hope is that management reads the recent reviews and turns things around. read more

For a Friday night I was pleasantly surprised when we walked right in and we were seated right away. Nice!!! It's a lot bigger than expected. Food was great! My wife is gluten free and what drew is there was their gluten free pizza. Normally gluten free pizzas are terrible and we were surprised that it was actually good! Very good! The service was great and although it was a first time here, we were made to feel like friends and regulars. Outstanding!!! Most certainly a return place.
