Arrived in Canada for Lunch. Found the Sideways Classic Grill on Front street on the St Clair River just south of the Blue Water Bridge. Walked in to Great looking bar. Talked to the Bartender/waiter a bit who recommended the poutine. We chose the chicken poutine which was good. Had gin & tonic and a Canadian Bloody Mary. All great along with the bartenders conversation. Turned out he lived in Clear Lake Texas at one time and we were in from Sugar Land Texas. The interior here is nice, it had good vibes and friendly staff. I came here with a coworker on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't too busy, we were seated immediately. However, the food took SO LONG to come. We sat down & ordered within 10 minutes, but it took another 45 minutes for our food to be served. My friend and I were extremely hungry, yet the taste of the food was just okay. Normally, when I wait that long to eat, the food tastes glorious even when it's just above average. I needed a quick bite driving through Sarnia and found this gem. Staff 5/5 helpful and found answers they didn't know Food 4/5. Very good menu. Lots of options. Fresh food. It didn't blow me away but above average. Restaurant. I would say 4/5. Good social distancing. Staff in masks. There were a few odd people on there. I assume local regulars. Great food (especially the various poutines) at decent prices. The menu is a not overly large but it does have variety. Service is usually good unless it's super busy; Also, the restaurant is long and narrow with steep steps down to the bathroom so It's not a great place for persons with accessibility issues. read more

Great little place in downtown Sarnia. When we walked in, we were greeted right away by the bartender. He came right over to bring menus. When I ordered my drink I also asked for a glass of water. He forgot. I had to ask again after a bit of a wait for him to come back. We ordered the bacon me crazy burger and the wonton nachos to share. OH. My. God. So good! The nachos are a great twist on a classic dish. The flavour of the Asian chicken with the sriracha sauce is amazing. Not to mention that the wonton "chips" don't get soggy with the cheese and slaw on top. The burger is well worth the 20 minute or so wait. The burger patty was cooked all the way through and not dry or chewy. The bacon is infused with jalapeno for just the right amount of heat. Have you had the caesar salad there? We had that as our side. Those little parmesan balls on the salad are tiny little nuggets of deliciousness. Overall, the experience was good but there is room for improvement in the service department. We didn't get a food check until we were almost done the burger. The nachos, which came first, were completely finished without someone ever coming over to check on us. My water and drink was never offered to be refilled. A few missed opportunities there. It's Sarnia's BEST KEPT SECRET. We stumbled upon this AMAZING SPOT while on a Business trip. Our waitress was the bomb.com, a super friendly brunette named "Chelsea", great service! My friend ordered the Jerk Chicken Wings and I settled on the Black Bean Burger......Wowwweee! The food is ABOVE INDUSTRY STANDARDS by 100! He has some strange but very true combinations of Poutine & Salads (Pear and Cashew Salad, Yummy!) that make you wanna slap yourself for not having 2 stomachs! Lol! The wings were delicious here! They were still crispy despite being tossed in the sauce and had a variety of different flavours you don't normally see at a regular pub. We ordered Sriracha coconut lime, Korean bbq, maple garlic caramelized onion and second degree. It was $0.95 per wing and well worth it. The place was clean and the waitress that served us was attentive; refilling our waters regularly. There were five tvs in this cute little pub so I can imagine it being a really great place for people to have game nights. Whenever we are around this area I would definitely return! read more

WOW, I'm in love. The burgers were great, with jalapeno infused bacon. The meat always taste better in Canada, always. You could drive right by this place and not even know it was their, and what a mistake that would be. Walking in it seems like a really cool little bar, i would have never thought the food would have been this good. The poutine was really good (best is still in Montreal). Seriously, you think something so simple yet so many mess it up, not here. The salad had a great little zing to it, pear, candied cashews, blue cheese and nice fresh mixed greens. The dressing was incredible, and it wasn't drowning in it, it was applied perfectly. The brisket sandwich had such amazing texture and taste, the bread was great as well. The smoke was perfect, such complexity in the flavors of every dish. The girls working the bar and serving the tables were great. Perfect workers, fast, welcoming, friendly everything you would want from an employee. They even knew about every dish we asked about. Hat's off to the cook, I've eaten at all kinds of places from hole in the walls to some of the so called fanciest places. This guy is a great Chef, the way he infused different flavors into every meal, and it worked, is not an easy task. Bravo my friend, bravo truly... While traveling back home from visiting Niagara Falls, Ontario we stopped for lunch here. The food was great and the service was awesome. If you are looking for something different from many of the chain joints and standard pub cuisine in Sarnia this is a great place to try. The atmosphere is vibrant and the food is delicious. I recommend the malibu chicken sandwich , it is encrusted in coconut with a delicious sweet chilli sauce and pineapple coconut cream on a kaiser road. The simple greens salad is also a great choice with poached pears, gorgonzola cheese and a house hazelnut and balsamic dressing, it is sweet, savoury and tart all in one salad. read more

Not very flavorful, it lacked buffalo sauce flavor (and didn't have bleu cheese). The red curry poutine was an interesting unexpected twist, for the good. They have a wide variety of food choices. I'd say this is "upscale" bar food. Burgers, sandwiches, wings and a variety of poutines! We ordered buffalo egg rolls and couple different kinds of wings. Both were really good. They have a large selection of fun drinks and they were tasty, although quite spendy for the size. $8 for a whiskey sour in a mini mason jar with lots of ice. I'd have given it a 5 star if it weren't for the drinks being very expensive for the size. Great service and and the 2 bartenders were really nice. This is a small place but we were lucky to get a seat within a couple of minutes. I don't recommend going here near the lunch hour if you have a tight schedule as they are very busy. The groups just after us had to wait at the bar for tables to open up which would be a deal breaker if you had a limited lunch. I had the philly brisket burger on a brioche bun with a poached pear and candied cashew salad instead of fries. The philly was messy to eat but REALLY good! I was a little apprehensive about how the pear would taste against the Gorgonzola cheese but I like trying new things so I gave it a go. I was pleasantly surprised, collectively all of the ingredients work well together and create a wonderful salad. My wife had the fish and chips which she said was good. I asked her if she would recommend it or not and she said probably not but only because my meal looked and tasted better to her. I highly recommend my meal and would order it again. Our drinks were ok, they have a full bar and decent selection so I'm sure we could've made better choices if that was our primary focus. The waitresses worked well together and were very attentive despite the large crowd. We will definitely be back during the slower off hours. read more

Sideways is one of Sarnia's better restaurants/bars. The atmosphere is friendly and casual. The waitresses and servers are all very nice and helpful. It does tend to get busier on the weekends or game nights. The Cesar salad is great and so are the burgers! I tried the flatbread once - wasn't a fan. The pasta is also on the watery side. My husband and I visited the Restaurant Pub tonight and each had a burger with fries. He has the California Burger and I had the Classic Bacon burger and they were both extraordinary. What a gem of a restaurant, with creative, freshly-prepared, high-quality food, and pleasant, attentive service in an attractive, relaxed setting, where one is made to feel welcome. The soups are always brimming with flavor and body; we love the curry mango chicken soup in particular. Any of the various toppings on the poutine are outstanding. The Asian salad is our favorite, full of choice ingredients and flavor. The sandwiches are substantial and scrumptious, particularly the brisket Philly. Sideways is so reliably good, it's a pity we don't live closer, although we do plan our drives to Michigan from New Hampshire through Sarnia, so that we can stop at Sideways both ways, and those stops are among the highlights of long road trips. read more

This time around I had a hamburger with their homemade sauce & garlic parmesan cheese fries, both excellent. My wife had the nachos, sparse for toppings & the cheese wasn't that tasty. We both shared the salt & pepper shrimp to start & they were delicious, we especially enjoyed the sauce that accompanied this appetizer. I had a wiskey sour & it was made just the way I like it. One negative, which is only that because we're old farts who like quiet, is the noise level from the crowd. The service was excellent- none of the typical bad attitude from servers when one doesn't drink alcohol in a bar. The creamy Greek salad had pitted olives (yay!), and loads of feta. The Panko shrimp were plump and juicy. The nachos were great - just the right amount of cheese and toppings. A 7 hour drive so far, and 4 more to get home and we are real happy we stopped in!!! read more

Came in with a party of 4 on a busy Saturday night. Got a table very quickly and our waitress asked for our drink order as soon as we sat down. Got our drinks from our waitress and then did not see a waitress come to our table for 20 minutes to take our food order. When the food did come it was fine but my dish was the pulled pork burger. Well when it came out it looked like the hulk himself has punched it straight into the ground because my buns were as flat as small titties. They were also smeared in butter and garlic making the bread taste like garlic toast. My pulled pork was just chunks of pork chop and the "slaw and pear" that was supposed to be on it was a mere skid mark on my burger. Additionally when the waitress did finally come back and asked how it was so said terrible and she just walked away coming back 5 minutes later to clarify if I didn't actually like it. All in all. Was excited to try this resto as it came so highly rated on Yelp. Nice decor and friendly service but all the chairs are high so not great if you have any leg issues. Beer was delicious....and the burgers are good. Wings are tasty but not seasoned that well. Ordered two kinds of wings...the Sriracha ones were meaty and tender but couldn't really taste it or feel any heat. The lemon pepper ones were just too sour. Perhaps we just didn't make the right choices but I don think I would run back for a second meal. read more
