Sidwill's has become one our local favorites. The service is good and the food never disappoints. The prices are pretty decent, too. Whether we dine in or order take out, it never takes more than 15 minutes to prepare the meal and it always tastes fresh. After trying this small place for lunch, I'm just not impressed with either the food or the service. We called in an order, ended up going with 2 orders of "Oven Broasted" Chicken, because despite what their web site showed, they no longer offer Roast Beef on Tuesday. We added Mac & Cheese and Collards for one order, and Rice & Gravy and Fried Okra with the other, along with a roll and cornbread. We were told it would be 10 to 15 minutes, when it actually took almost 30 minutes. Nothing we received was fresh tasting or particularly flavorful. The roll was small and leathery, the cornbread was overly sweet and dry. The Broasted Chicken is basically baked chicken, with minimal flavor, and sitting in a pool of grease. The M&C was made from scratch, but was lite on the cheese, and thus also dry. The collards were very, very sweet, not a taste we care for. I watch them "prepare" the rice, a small amount was placed in a small plastic bag and microwaved to reheat it, dumped in the container and a small amount of gravy was then added. The Fried Okra was the best of the lot, but was only a little above average. These seem like nice folks, but at the end you have to deliver quality of food and service at a reasonable price, that simply was not the case with our experience today, an experience we will not be repeating. read more

Myself and my coworkers order lunch from here and pick it up all the time. I can't say what the eat in experience is but it's pretty tight in there. Most recently I had the meatloaf, greens and mac and cheese. Everything was hot and tasted great. Oh and the yellow cake with chocolate icing was amazing! Amazing! So amazing! One of the best meals I've ever had. The food is all seasoned beautifully, cooked perfectly. This food tastes like home! The swings were so tender that it fell off the bone! The Mac and Cheese was so amazing that I ate half of it before I could take the picture . The fried okra was seasoned and fried to perfection. Customer service was amazing too. I felt at home from the moment I walked in the door. And it's black owned?!?!? Every moment I spent in this restaurant I fell even more in love with it! This place will be a definite staple in my diet! Masks are required for guests and staff and everyone seemed to be following these restrictions. This place is hard to find if you don't know where to look. It's right across from Southern Roots in Jamestown, but you have to drive to the back of the parking lot. The restaurant itself is small, maybe 3-4 tables inside and a few outside. I was amazed at how many people walked in while my family was eating lunch. This place is popular! One of my concerns was there would be no highchairs, however, they did have them upon request and the gentleman even cleaned them before setting them up for us. My husband and I both ordered the meatloaf and Mac n cheese. I ordered collard greens and he ordered fried okra. The meatloaf was fantastic! It had a sweet n sour sauce on top which was different and interesting but still good. The mac n cheese was "eggy" according to my husband, but I like mine like that. His okra was good and my collard greens were perfect. The kids loved the yams and while they were good, they did taste a little bit like canned yams. We were too full for dessert but their cakes looked good. By the way, Fridays are fried fish days and it looked yummy! I'll have to try it next time I go. read more

The employees who work there are very nice and the food is some good classic soul food. The place is the size of my apartment and only able to seat a few people inside. In the summer it is hot hot hot inside. I witnessed an employee, who I suspect to be the manager, take a napkin and shove it down her shirt to wipe the sweat of her chest. Took a little day trip and saw this SidWill cafe. Always up for exploring something new I was pleasantly surprised to see this little place, tucked in the basement in the rear of the house. I was even more amazed about the prices. I ended up ordering salmon, mashed potatoes and corn bread for my lunch. All of it was excellent. It's a very busy place it's really enjoyable. I was visiting in the area and wanted to take my mom a special home cook take out lunch for her birthda. Wow was not impressed! The young man, that fixed the order needed a reminder to fix the take out order and the appearance of the delivery in the container was extra small portion, dry mac /cheese, green beans was decent, meatloaf was covered with too much greasy sauce and asked about the dessert that was displaced, thankful that someone in the back call out, "it's old, throw it away," so the best experience about this is "Now, I know for this business to have been in business for 3 years, got to do better! The first thing you will notice when you walk through the door is how fast the kitchen staff is moving. I love restaurants where the kitchen is visible because I can see both how clean the kitchen is and how fresh the food is. SidWill's passes both expectations. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. There are a few tables inside and many outside. Today for my first visit I chose takeout. I called from my office and the food was ready by the time that I arrived. I noticed that they do a lot of takeout business. Today I ordered the turkey meatloaf, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and cornbread. When I got back to my office I noticed that they gave me a roll instead of the cornbread. This is not a big deal and the roll tasted very fresh. The Mac n cheese was the baked type and was good for what it was. It was certainly on par with what you would find at a church covered dish dinner. The mashed potatoes were excellent. The turkey meatloaf was amazing. Turkey meatloaf is hard to make because you need a certain amount of fat while turkey is a very lean meat. It was very well made, it was a little greasy, which is excusable because that comes with finding that fat balance. The tomato sauce that it comes with is also very good. There is great flavor all around in all the dishes. I will definitely return and would highly recommend it to others. One update: the prices are insanely low. For the price of a meal at a fast food place, you can get a hearty meal of REAL handmade food. You seriously cannot beat it.
