    Cornbread
    Chloe M.

Simple, Southern comfort food with friendly, engaged service. The Mac and cheese ranks high on my list. The oven broasted "S'wingz" were flavorful but needed higher temps at the beginning for crispier skin and more time overall. The cornbread comes with just about everything and I don't care if you're a Keto Guido, Paleo Paula, or Whole 30 Bertie, you need to stuff a slice in your mouth.

Thanks for supporting the Black Suit Initiative!

I have been to SidWills several times- you must go too! My husband entered a drawing with the Sparrows Nest and Black Suite Initiative, for a SidWill gift certificate, he won- SidWill donating these- THAT spoke volumes, the support of this non profit leadership organization for young men in our community! I knew the food would be over the top! (chicken pot pie, collards like Grandma's, Mac and cheese and turkey meatloaf, REAL SMASHED TATERS) I was impressed with the COVID precautions in a small space, with social distancing, masking, gloves, hand sanitizer and the smiles, charm and good customer service, come shining through! Thank you for an excellent meal and supporting The Black Suit Initiative. #homecooking #sidwillcatering #blacksuits

After trying this small place for lunch, I'm just not impressed with either the food or the service. We called in an order, ended up going with 2 orders of "Oven Broasted" Chicken, because despite what their web site showed, they no longer offer Roast Beef on Tuesday. We added Mac & Cheese and Collards for one order, and Rice & Gravy and Fried Okra with the other, along with a roll and cornbread. We were told it would be 10 to 15 minutes, when it actually took almost 30 minutes. Nothing we received was fresh tasting or particularly flavorful. The roll was small and leathery, the cornbread was overly sweet and dry. The Broasted Chicken is basically baked chicken, with minimal flavor, and sitting in a pool of grease. The M&C was made from scratch, but was lite on the cheese, and thus also dry. The collards were very, very sweet, not a taste we care for. I watch them "prepare" the rice, a small amount was placed in a small plastic bag and microwaved to reheat it, dumped in the container and a small amount of gravy was then added. The Fried Okra was the best of the lot, but was only a little above average. These seem like nice folks, but at the end you have to deliver quality of food and service at a reasonable price, that simply was not the case with our experience today, an experience we will not be repeating.

This is one of the best places for Southern cooking. Mac and Cheese is amazing plus it is served with a Southern Charm. The price value and the amount of food during lunch is denitely worth it. i am not a big eater, needless to say- i got three meals from it. Broasted chicken is also brilliant!

Make sure you come here hungry! This is southern comfort food at its finest and you need to have enough room to savor it all. My favorite part was the corn bread, but I'm a sucker for all bread :) Sitting outside is a must when there's nice weather out!

Myself and my coworkers order lunch from here and pick it up all the time. I can't say what the eat in experience is but it's pretty tight in there. Most recently I had the meatloaf, greens and mac and cheese. Everything was hot and tasted great. Oh and the yellow cake with chocolate icing was amazing! Give them a try for some good soul food!

A little disappointed on the portions. It was literally 4 bites of cabbage and for the price not worth it.

Swings, Mac and Cheese, and Fried Okra

Amazing! So amazing! One of the best meals I've ever had. The food is all seasoned beautifully, cooked perfectly. This food tastes like home! The swings were so tender that it fell off the bone! The Mac and Cheese was so amazing that I ate half of it before I could take the picture . The fried okra was seasoned and fried to perfection. Customer service was amazing too. I felt at home from the moment I walked in the door. And it's black owned?!?!? Every moment I spent in this restaurant I fell even more in love with it! This place will be a definite staple in my diet! Masks are required for guests and staff and everyone seemed to be following these restrictions. The restaurant was so clean and sanitary, all staff has on gloves and hair coverings. Definitely a must visit for anyone in the area!

Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. You can't go wrong at southern roots.

Everything was delicious, although my partner wasn't a huge fan of the short ribs. The trout and salad were both excellent. The cheese dip was delicious. The sides were a standout, especially the Parmesan spaghetti squash, which I highly recommend. We had to put some extra salt on the sides, but that's purely personal preference. They also had several reasonably priced drink specials, which was a nice surprise. The service was amazing--friendly, attentive, and a big part of what made the meal so enjoyable. Overall, a really solid dining experience, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment. We've had incredible experiences at another Full Moon location. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment. We ordered grilled oysters, a pound of shrimp (peeled and deveined), and a half-pound of king crab legs, items we're very familiar with and order often. The grilled oysters didn't seem grilled at all. They looked strange, had very little butter, and were almost completely flavorless. The shrimp was another letdown. It was under-seasoned, wasn't peeled or deveined as ordered, and was gritty. We also never received the corn that was supposed to come with the boil. We could have mentioned it, but by that point we were already so disappointed that we didn't bother. The king crab legs were clearly not fresh. The shells were so old and pliable that they bent instead of cracking properly, and the inner membrane stuck to the meat. We didn't eat it. They made another order which was the same. Our waitress said they don't receive orders for the KC often so they may have been old. Ummmmm! The service didn't help the experience. The staff seemed standoffish from the beginning. Our food was dropped off without any explanation or follow-up, and we had to ask for everything we needed instead of anyone checking on us proactively. However our waitress was happy to help us remove the crab from our bill and she was pleasant. We know this isn't representative of every Full Moon Oyster Bar because we've had fantastic meals at another location. That's what makes this experience even more disappointing. We were celebrating a special occasion and left wishing we had chosen somewhere else.

It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

I wish I could say that it was worth the wait, but my experience here suggested otherwise. Positives first: Noor is both spacious and stylish with plenty of seating in both the bar and dining areas. Sujan proved to be an attentive and courteous server. That said, the buffet was somewhat underwhelming. It was smaller than those I've found elsewhere in the area. While it offered a solid mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, those offerings were the epitome of playing it safe. Only the hakka noodles (not always an Indian buffet staple) and butter chicken (better than average) really stood out. Nothing else, from the tandoori chicken to the daal to the naan, was prepared poorly, but it was fairly forgettable. Granted, buffet food needs to appeal to a wide range of diners with varying levels of spice tolerance, and so I went in not expecting any heat. Take spiciness out of the equation, however, and the flavors still felt subdued. At least the $20 seemed reasonable for what was offered. It's possible that Noor really shines if you order off the regular menu, and so I wouldn't rule out a return here. The next time I want a weekend lunch buffet, however, I think I'll stick to Taaza.

I got the sliced beef sandwich combo with slaw, okra, and sweet tea. My mom just wanted peach cobbler and okra, and we added potato salad and banana pudding for ourselves. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The pulled pork was tender and not dry. My sliced beef was juicy and seasoned well. The hushpuppies were good, crispy outside, soft inside. The fried okra was cooked right and not greasy. The potato salad surprised me in a good way, it had slices of bacon in it, which was different but actually really good. The banana pudding was good and creamy, and the peach cobbler was good too. Portions are generous. It's a lot of food for the price and definitely worth it. Service was good,we were in and out. No long wait. The ambience was good too. Nice spot, plenty of parking, easy to pull in and grab the food. No complaints at all when it comes to the service or the atmosphere. Overall, solid food, good service, good atmosphere. We'd definitely go back.

Like most self-respecting barbecue joints, BBQ Joe's lets the food do the talking: the dining area is strictly utilitarian. They keep busy here, but the staff are very efficient, and you won't be waiting long for anything. While BBQ Joe's serves up the chopped or pulled pork that is synonymous with the Tarheel State, don't go looking for the classic Lexington-style experience. They have a variety of sauces as well as ribs, chicken, smoked turkey, and brisket. Stop in before 11, and you can feast on a variety of biscuits. For my most recent visit, I picked up a chopped brisket sandwich with white slaw, a side of hushpuppies, and a banana pudding. The food was prepped quickly and brought out with a smile. The brisket couldn't touch what I had in Texas, but for High Point, it was definitely respectable. Though not as smokey as I would have hoped for, the meat was tender, and the sandwich held plenty of it. That said, the house Joe's sauce runs a bit sweet, and you might want to add a dash of something spicier. While the ring-shaped hushpuppies were addictively crispy and delicious, the banana pudding rated as tasty but unremarkable. BBQ Joe's is a reliable option for good food and fast service. You can find better barbecue if you're inclined to travel, but for High Point proper, this is it.
