Unlike so many other restaurants - so, so many - Siena Tavern survived. Stalwarts of Chicago's dining scene withered, but this place remains. So, riddle me this, restaurant owners, managers, chefs, cooks, bartenders, barbacks, servers, and everyone else in the biz: If your establishment managed to get through the global pandemic, wouldn't you want every aspect of it to shine once people were able to visit again? Today, Mother's Day 2021, Siena Tavern fell so short, I am ashamed to have given them (a lot of) my money. It's Mother's Day. Brunch. Yet inside Siena, it was club-level-DJ-spinning-hot-tracks loud. Why? How many people looked up restaurants to splurge on their moms and booked this place only to sit asking, "HUH????" because a remix of The Hills was blasting at jet-plane-takeoff levels? If your staff can't hear me, my wife or daughter ordering - and I'm loud - that's an issue. When we have to wait 10 minutes for ANYONE to come to our table? That's an issue. When we never get water and can't find our server so have to flag down a dude in a suit to get us some? That's an issue. And when that water shows up and two of our three glasses have clearly visible lip marks on them? During a global pandemic? What's a bigger word for "issue?" Because that's where I'm sitting right now. Grotesque. Period. (And, yes, I would have brought the issue up to our server, or anyone for that matter, but service was non-existent.) Server asked if I'd like another beer; yes, please. He forgot. Wife waved him down and he rushed over to say he'd get it. I was done with my meal by the time it arrived. River North establishments might keep on keeping because people flock to hot spots, but I wish I would have dished out hundreds of dollars somewhere else - where the glasses were exceptionally clean, the server actually gave us attention and the atmosphere, on a Sunday at 2pm, wasn't the equivalent of a club. I was surprised with the food here! Although pricey (not surprising since it's downtown) I thought it was worth it. The atmosphere is dark and cozy. Service was pretty good. Wagyu beef meatball - I didn't realize it would be one giant meatball. It was tender and flavorful and a good size to feed 3 people. It comes with bread and the tomato sauce was tasty as well, great for dipping the bread. The meatball is also topped with delicious ricotta cheese. Truffle gnocchi - this was absolutely delicious! The sauce was so decadent and you could really taste the truffle. The pancetta was rich and savory and the fried sage added a light crispy crunch. Fries - I would skip these next time. I didn't really like these that much, I'm picky when it comes to fries and these were too crispy on the outside and not enough potato on the inside. I would come back again to try some of the other dishes. I am intrigued to try the 4 course tasting menu with dessert for $85. You can also get a wine pairing for $40/person. read more

We chose Siena Tavern based on the reviews here on Yelp and they did not disappoint! We were only in town for the night and we wanted Italian food close to where we were staying. We tried the 22oz ribeye, the lasagna in bolognese, the rigatoni in vodka sauce, and the orecchiette with sausage. All of our dishes were amazing, but the ribeye stole the night! Char grilled to a perfect medium rare it was served with. Truffle butter and roasted head of garlic. The steak was so perfectly cooked and tender, the flavor was outstanding and it simply melted in your mouth! We also shared a side of the Brussels sprouts with pancetta. We sat outside and the atmosphere was perfect. We finished the meal with a flight of their sorbet and their interpretation of tiramisu. While I wasn't a fan of the tiramisu, I would still come back again because everything else was amazing. read more

This steak is the best that I've had in a very long time. Far better than Gibson's or similar. The squid ink pasta was also excellent. All the food, appetizers as well as entrees, were stellar. Let me premise the review by saying the service was excellent. But wow the food was a let down, this was my first time here post covid and what the H happened to the food. I got the same order as I always had many instances before. Coccoli- the puff bun was a little dry/crusty, lacked folds, I know it's not supposed to have very much but it was like a shell. The cheesy flavor that used to be in the bread was also non existent. The cheese, I'm prettty sure the portion has been halved at least. And the sauce no longer had the surprise sweetness it used to. Squid ink linguini- I think this replaced the squid ink pasta but it's pretty similar. The noodles were over cooked, but that's most likely because they were super thin. It would just break when you tried to pick it up with a fork. The lobster tail meat that came with it tasted old. Wagyu beef meatball- the meat ball was super dry, it wasn't very fatty at all which is suspect since it's supposed to be wagyu. This and the coccoli used to melt in your mouth when you ate it. Also to top it off, the bread had a staleness to it, what in the.. I don't usually write about negative experiences but what happened, the food here used to top tier A+. Came by last night at 11 pm for drinks after getting off work. Super cute place, great service. At midnight we asked to order another round of drinks and the waitress informed us they were closing. On Siena Tavern's website, Yelp, Google maps, and Apple Maps, it all says they close at 2 am. I informed her of this and she said that they "have never updated their hours since Covid"...I find that a little strange. We were bummed because we chose this place for after work because it said they were open until 2 am. This place is fantastic! I've visited Bar Siena in west loop a few times but never made it out to Siena Tavern until last night. I had the squid ink linguine, wagyu meatballs, and grilled octopus-- everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend trying each of those. What I enjoyed most, though, was how open and airy their outdoor seating was. The weather was perfect and sitting outside with a breeze made everyone feel much more safe. What a delicious and delightful adventure we had at the Siena Tavern tonight! First off, we were very glad that we made reservations on Open Table a few days in advance because we walked right in and were seated while many others were having to accept long waits or find another place. For this quality establishment, reservations are a great idea! Once seated, we were greeted by a very kind and helpful waiter. He was very knowledgeable and helpful as we contemplated our dining choices. I ordered the No. 4 gin cocktail and LOVED the flavors! My husband got the Anti-Hero Revolution Brew from the can. We were both pleased. We started with the caramelized Brussels sprouts and absolutely loved the crispiness and bold flavors. The cubes of prosciutto really sealed the deal on this delicious treat! My husband got the spaghetti for his dinner! He enjoyed the generous crab meat that was scattered throughout the entire pasta. The cream sauce was very decadent and rich! It all come together to make a delightful pasta dish! I splurged and got the lobster truffle cream risotto. I was a bit nervous because it was a significant price commitment...but oh my! It was DIVINE! The rich truffle cream sauce was heaven enough...but then add chunks of mushroom with generous amounts of delectable lobster meat! On top of that, a staff member brought out a large Tuscan Truffle and gave me a bit of history before carefully shaving it onto my pasta. Oh. My. Gracious. Every bite was an absolute pleasure! Special shoutout to the employees in the service industry! Now, let's get down to business. Sienna Tavern. 3 people ordered the following: TRUFFLE MUSHROOM PIZZA: Roasted wild mushrooms, garlic cream, mozzarella, white truffle oil BROILED SALMON: Roasted fall vegetables, celery root puree, tamarind glaze CHITARRA "CACIO E PEPE": Pecorino, black pepper, belper knolle cheese SQUID INK LINGUINE: Grilled lobster tail, spicy lobster cream TUSCAN KALE CAESAR: Oven-dried tomato, parmesan breadcrumbs, lemon caesar dressing Everything was really good. Loved the food. I especially liked the pizza, and the cacio e pepe. Even though kale isn't my thing, I did think the kale salad was good as well. Portion sizes were great; 3 adults ate a little bit of everything and were satisfied, with enough leftovers for 2 more servings. So, from a blocking and tackling standpoint, everything checked out A-OK. My only complaint, and this is a big one, was that everything was so greasy/oily! Now, I've never had Sienna Tavern before, but have eaten at their sister restaurant, Bar Sienna. For context, I really enjoyed Bar Sienna, and didn't feel anything was overly oily. However, this was not the case with my order from Sienna Tavern. Fully understand the need for oil within the realm of cooking, but this was egregious. While my food wasn't ruined by any means, it's a little unsettling that there was oil in every bite, and even a pool of oil in my bowl after the food was finished (please see photos). Maybe it was just the cooks on that particular day, or maybe that's how their food is prepared. I understand "off" days happen. Jordan didn't always have a 30 point night, and the Blackhawks can't be world champs each year. However, consistency is what we're looking for. Is this grease a consistent characteristic of Sienna Tavern? Yes, despite the pandemic, restaurants are hosting guests at varying capacities, and yes, the general population is being vaccinated more and more each day. What that said, this doesn't mean people are ready to dive all the way back in. Since I was not physically at Sienna Tavern for this meal, I can only hone in on the food I ordered. After all, at the end of the day, when you boil it down, a restaurant is only as good as its last meal. Service, atmosphere, concept, design, drink menus...those are added bonuses, but THE FOOD is what brings people back. 3.5 stars today. Could have been 4 easily. I have no doubt Sienna Tavern is a great experience, and I can vouch for their food being good, but this particular meal, had a blemish on it - a greasy one at that. read more

Love Siena Tavern so much! If I was reviewing it specifically for COVID accommodations I wouldn't rank it that high, but the winter elements are beyond their control and don't reflect this restaurant as a whole. We came for a brunch and it was very very cold so note that you will want to bring a coat and winter gear. The tent they have outside is not fully enclosed, but they have a lot of heaters but still can't protect you from that winter wind chill. Aside from that this place is spectacular! They have a wonderfully varied brunch menu and when we went they also had their full menu available as well. Our waitress was so friendly and accommodating and all staff were wearing masks and respecting COVID rules. Food was DELICIOUS. We had coffees, the lemon ricotta pancakes, and the breakfast skillet. The pancakes were delicious and flavorful. Very strong on the lemon taste but with the blueberry compote and ricotta were balanced so nicely. The breakfast skillet came out steaming hot, a very large portion, and truly felt like the perfect breakfast for a cold winter morning. After talking with a friend about how our reviews were all big paragraphs, she mentioned that the ones that are sectioned off are usually the ones she likes to read, so in her honor, here it goes (but also is there a point if its all almost pretty much 5/5?!) Food 5/5 All four of us sat down and had a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded good. We had the waitress tell us about her suggestions and the most popular items, but that just made it even harder to decide!! I ordered the scallops and my friends got the squid ink linguine, spaghetti, and brick chicken diavolo. We also got the cocoli as an appetizer. I got a taste of all three my friends got. I'd say my favorite out the three was the chicken. It seems basic, but the chicken was just perfect - so juicy, moist, tender, and flavorful. The linguine came with lobster and the spaghetti with crab - both absolutely delicious. With all that being said, the scallops were perfection. The bottom of the plate was smothered in what I believe to be squash puree, topped with the scallops and cauliflower. The scallops were large and seared just right. To be the cauliflower were a tad bland and could have used a touch more of flavor. Service 5/5 Our waitress was beyond patient - she checked in on us three times before we were ready to order, she went through the entire menu giving us one or two favorites from each section, and answered our many questions. Our waters were never empty and she was quick without making us feel rushed. Ambiance 4.5/5 The lights are dim here giving it a romantic vibe, but it's also casual. Even on a week day, it was packed! This beautiful, ambient spot fulfilled almost every checklist I had as a visitor from the East Coast- it's a gorgeous date spot. The cocktail and wine options were expansive and not too overwhelming. I loved the aperitif section in the menu, it was a sweet touch. The bar is gorgeous, and the bartenders were lovely and hospitable. My only complaint was there was no deep dish pizza! I thought this was Chicago, and was excited to get fine dining service while also trying Chicago's signature (maybe this is too tourist of me). I have been to Sienna Tavern before and think they have really great food. I recently went there on a Sunday without a reservation and sat at the bar with a friend. We ordered the Kale Ceasar salad to share as well as the gnocchi and the pasta alla vodka. Sadly, our salad took 40 minutes to come out and then our pastas still had not arrived an hour and fifteen minutes after we were seated. We noticed other people getting their meals (including pastas) and mentioned that we were on a timeline to go to a show at the Chicago Theatre. We mentioned we needed to leave within the next 20-25 minutes to make it on time and hoped to get our pastas before then. We got our pastas with just enough time to eat and get to the show. I think our server forgot to put our meal in initially, but the service recovery was really great. They comped our entire meal, which we were not expecting, but this does make us feel like we would want to come back again despite the rough service experience. The service recovery and the fact we didn't miss our show made me give 4 stars. The pastas and salad were also very good. The vibe at the bar is still nice too if you don't have a reservation, it's still a nice area to sit. read more

We came with luggage/bag since we came from a hotel and they accommodated us right away. Took all Our bags to coat check for us. Let's talk FOOD! They're Meatballs are out of this world. I really could go on and on about how fantastic they are but I won't. Let's just say, we ordered 7! The girls could not stop eating them! That was their appetizers and mean dish! I ordered a Brussels sport salad with chicken a d a. Order Bruschetta! Outstanding. My husband got a pizza (a little too spicy for me) and my girlfriend got a chopped salad wit shrimp. I think we paid $450 (we each got about 3 cocktails). While it was pricey (we already knew this wasn't going to be a cheap brunch) it's so worth it. Great Italian restaurant for a girls night out. We were recommended to start with the coccoli by our waiter, and we could tell that the entire meal would be spectacular just by the first few bites. For entrees we had the classics of rigatoni alla vodka and the cacio e pepe. Both were so creamy and delicious! And for dessert we had the tiramisu, which was also recommended by our waiter. Not only was the food beyond delicious (and a great value!), but we were so happy to have our waiter. He made the entire experience so enjoyable. I stopped in here for a mid-day drink last time I was in Chicago, not particularly hungry, but ultimately totally unable to resist some of their amazing menu options. The wine list was plentiful, and the cocktail I tried was likewise quite delightful. The beer list was definitely a let down, but I find I am frequently let down by Chicago's beer lists so I hesitate to say this is unique to Siena Tavern. We ordered the margherita pizza/flatbread and it was to die for. Maybe a bit too much crust (I don't like crust) but other than that nothing short of extraordinary. I think the bartender's name was Tanya, and she was absolutely fantastic -- totally attentive, super knowledgeable, and generally just fun to chat with. I have been here for dinner before as well, and it's always a challenge to decide on something from the menu as everything sounds great. We were fortunate to attend the priviate VIP Peroni map release party. Delicious Italian bites were served along with specialty Peroni cocktails. Siena Tavern is open 7 days a week. They offer a full lunch, dinner and brunch menu. Homemade pasta, pizza, cocolli, everything for lunch or dinner. The food is delicious! The problem, it's impossible to eat here without a reservation, prices seem high, its too noisy. It's also too crowded, almost impossible to get a drink at the bar.
