We stopped into Siena Tavern for after dinner drinks, and wow, we were so disappointed we didn't have time to eat here during our trip! Each of us ordered something different, and every drink was fantastic. My friend had the Frozen Peach Rosé, which was the perfect balance of tart and juicy. I ordered the Limoncello Spritz, and it was incredibly refreshing. My husband loved their Dirty Martini, and my friend's husband ordered a glass of white wine. The only hiccup was that he was accidentally served a red instead, but he ended up enjoying it so much that he kept it and said it was excellent. The atmosphere was lively, the drinks were spot on, and after looking through the menu, we were kicking ourselves for not making time to have dinner here. My husband had the bolognese and the others at the table and I had the rigatoni vodka. I tried my husband's food and I enjoyed both. The homemade pasta was delicious in both entrees. We ordered the Wagyu meatballs, number 2 cocktail, arancini, coccoli, vodka rigatoni, lobster linguine, pesto pasta (not pictured), vanilla bean cheesecake and chocolate gianduja bar. I usually don't order cocktails at restaurants but I heard great things about the No. 2 cocktail. It was a great balance of tangy from the lemon and sweetness of the peach. I had one bite of the pesto pasta and it was so sour. It was not my favorite, but the lobster linguine and the vodka rigatoni were a hit! My favorite of the appetizers was the Wagyu meatballs, but the dessert was the star of the show. The vanilla bean cheesecake had some berries on top and my favorite dessert ! Siena Tavern - poor quality food, high prices, random service charge(s). Fine-ish service. Overall, would not recommend. Had a reservation for 5 people at Siena Tavern - 6:30pm this last Thursday. Arrived on time and we were seated immediately, which was a plus. That's about the best I can say about our experience. The 5 of us were crammed into a VERY small circular booth, which was tight even for 5 of what I would describe our party as being normal-sized folks. We did not ask to be re-seated, because it was pretty slammed and didn't appear there would be any options regardless. Ok. That's on us for not asking. Drink orders were taken. Asked for a double Titos and soda in a pint glass. Was specific about that. Came in a Collins glass. Ok, obviously the server didn't listen, but fine - I could live with it. Apps were fine-ish. The calamari was ok, didn't love it as it was medium warm, a bit doughy, and one of the dipping sauces was not to my liking. The marinara sauce was good, however. The burata cheese itself was high quality and fresh, but the jelly tomato base was way too sweet and quite off-putting. It also came with only 4 pieces of bread - with 5 people at the table. Not great. Then came the entrees. With the sole exception of the meatball, ALLLLLLL were so heavily over-salted as to being almost inedible. SO much salt. I and my wife drank 5 glasses of water that evening each due to only having eaten 1/2 of each of our dishes. My daughter only ate 2 bites of hers. They were, in a word, terrible. I didn't complain at the restaurant as we were with friends and didn't wish to make a scene, but I noted on the e-receipt review that the food was 2/5 overall and noted I would be happy to be contacted should they wish to follow up for details. Thus far, they have not. Oh, and $10 for "service charge" plus $5 "payment platform fee" (to pay via web) is ridiculous. I would never go here again for all these reasons. Cool vibe when you walk in and lively music playing that makes you want to dance a bit, but it's not too loud to hinder conversation. Wait time given was 25-30 min for a table at 8pm on a Saturday for 3 people but ended up at 1:15 when the text finally came. Luckily we found a bar spot well before to mitigate the wait time.Bartenders didn't seem too attentive despite there being 3-4 of them, and would often talk amongst themselves or with other staff. Food was the real redeeming factor here. Everything in my group was very tasty, though a bit small if you're really hungry. Unfortunately the chicken parm doesn't come with pasta. I forgot to ask but that would be nice to note on the menu, when ordering, or even to offer it as an addition. Taste was great, along with the sea bass and pizza we had. Brussels sprouts and green beans for sides were okay, but didn't really do it for me personally. Billing was an issue, starting with a 3.95% surcharge that we requested off and took quite a while (see bartender attentiveness above) and then the receipt had a QR code to split but tha ended up causing more confusion than just putting multiple cards down. An alternative is to only get one spread (they're all really good), but I still recommend more focaccia! Light, fluffy, and airy, this was a pillow with a light coat of oil and topped with sea salt. Pockets in the bread gave surface area for the spread to relax before hugging taste buds. Squid Ink Linguine - al dente linguine, firm enough on impact yet slightly tender inside. Picked up the lobster cream sauce well and the sauce was delicious. Rich and thickened with some cheesiness, there was more than enough to go around for the pasta. On the side, a lobster tail was prepared well with the meat mostly out. Simple to eat while maintaining a wonderful and complete appearance. Siena Tavern is a pretty good option for brunch or dinner in River North. This is not the place to go if you are in a rush. The wait staff tend to take awhile to notice you and attend to you, so if you're in a time crunch just know there will be longer waiting periods. This place is usually busy during happy hours and can be quite loud then. If you want to come at a quiet time, I recommend their burrata, pizzas, their Parmesan fries (which are to die for) and Brussels sprouts. They have a pretty good array of happy hour cocktails as well. I made a lunch reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was pretty empty on a Monday so we could've just walked in without one. They let us sit anywhere. They have some outdoor seating. The interior was nice and clean. Coccoli (4/5): This is a traditional Tuscan fried dough snack served hot with prosciutto and cheese. This was paired with truffle honey. So good! It felt really light even thought it was fried. A bit oily. Truffle mushroom pizza (4/5): I love a mushroom pizza so I had to try. The crust had a great crunch. The cheese was a little overpowering. I would've loved more mushrooms. Gnocchi (5/5): The sauce was truffle cream with fried sage and crispy pancetta. The gnocchi was so light and pillowly. I loved the texture. It paired well with the creamy sauce. The pancetta felt a bit too crisp and burnt almost. Spaghetti (4/5): This had jumbo lump crab, charred tomato, red chili, with a lemon cream sauce. I thought the sauce would be lighter but it still worked well! The crab had great flavor with actual good sized chunks. Everything was so delicious. The service was good and attentive. I ordered the meatball, kale caesar, vodka pasta, and bomboloni. I did receive a meatball that was very pink inside and (comparatively my friends' were all brown/looked to be cooked through). I was told it was cooked but didn't finish it. I don't really enjoy non well done beef so maybe this was a poor choice on my end! Otherwise, everything else was amazing and so delicious. The room was beautiful and I loved that it was tucked away from the commotion of the rest of the restaurant. Starting with burrata is always a win for me and the tomato jam was TASTY. The Caesar salad also won me over, much more challenging to do. I tried the Tuscan kale salad and a pasta dish, and overall it was a solid experience with a few highs and a couple things that missed the mark. The Tuscan kale salad was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. I really liked that they used breadcrumbs instead of croutons--it made it easier to get a good bite every time without it feeling too heavy. I also asked for the dressing on the side, which worked out perfectly. The roasted tomatoes were such a nice touch--slightly sweet and paired really well with the kale. The only downside was the shaved parmesan, which tasted a little stale and didn't have that fresh, sharp flavor I was expecting. For the pasta, the sauce was definitely the standout. It's one of the better sauces I've had in the city, and the sauce-to-pasta ratio was on point. The pasta itself was cooked al dente, and once it cooled down a bit, it had a really nice texture. That said, it felt like it was missing something--maybe a bit more cheese or a little spice to elevate it. It started off strong, but after a while the flavor became a bit repetitive. Overall, I'd rate the pasta around a 7/10. It's good and worth trying, but not the best I've had in the city. Stopped in for dinner on a busy Friday night in May. I snagged a seat at the bar and got in my drink order. I was close to the 'production' end of the bar, so it was fun to watch the bartenders take care of all the server's orders. It is a hectic environment, and maybe is a bit more sedate at the tables. My food came out quickly and was delicious! I got the Seabass, a great piece of tender fish with a light and tasty sauce and a wonderful salad. Seabass is always a bit pricey, but it was worth it. I got a martini, and it was $21...a bit on the high side, even for the city. It was good. The servers were all great, but were having trouble keeping up. I wouldn't say there was much personal attention, but they did get the job done. I considered dessert, but wasn't willing to wait out the process given how slammed they were.
