I dined here with my best friend for restaurant week and had an overall great experience! The place was packed and for good reason, with a dark but fun vibe. However we had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation. It also took a while for a waiter to come take our order. We chose our items for the 3 course meal and ordered drinks. We chose cocktails off the specialty list and both were well balanced and fresh! We enjoyed all of our food but by far our favorite was the grilled octopus. It was cooked to perfection with a nice balsamic-based sauce that paired perfectly. We enjoyed both of our pasta dishes as well, the squid ink linguini and rigatoni were delicious. We shared a bombolini for dessert, which was good but nothing spectacular. Obviously portions were smaller because we chose the multi-course restaurant week option, but we still felt full by the end of the meal. Service certainly could have been more timely but we appreciated having our drinks on the house to compensate for the amount of waiting we did. But I can understand why siena tavern was so busy! The ambiance was nicely decorated, and I liked seeing the pizza oven where our pizza was cooked right in front of us. The only complaint I have is that the restaurant was cold. They couldn't increase the temperature. The food was amazing. We started off with a pizza. Half was margarita and the other half was truffle mushroom. I only had the truffle mushroom side, and it was amazing. We shared appetizers, including the brussel sprouts, sticky Parmesan potatoes, and the truffle fries. They all were very good! For my entree, I had the spaghetti with jumbo lump crab. It was FIRE!! I added shrimp to mine, and I literally ate the whole bowl. 10/10. For dessert, I had the lemon sorbet. Again, 10/10. It was very light and refreshing. I tasted the cheesecake, and it was amazing as well. I def recommend this restaurant for a friend outing or date night. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting or living in Chicago. I went for the first time yesterday with my family, sitting outside on the patio and our server was extremely rude and unkind. When ordering, I asked if she could add alcohol to my Hugo spritz and she told me yes, but when she brought it out, it was non-alcoholic. It may have been a misunderstanding, but when I kindly told her that I had asked for alcohol, she reacted very passive aggressively, being dismissive and simply not even responding to me, even after I had thanked her twice. The drink was good and the food was decent, but the service, from not only her, made this restaurant not even worth going to. Really flavorful sauce with a slight kick, noticeable freshness on the basil and a pasta that held its shape (only one split/broken piece which is incredible for GF). I can't believe how many times I've passed by Siena Tavern over the years and never stopped in! My friend and I made an early dinner reservation before seeing a show nearby, and even before peak dinner hours it was busy. Definitely vibey chatter from diners enjoying themselves, but not so loud we had to strain to hear each other like so many other restaurants these days! They had happy hour going until 6 but only in the bar area so unfortunately we couldn't partake. I had a glass of pinot grigio ($14), which was just ok and my friend got a cocktail he really enjoyed. At first glance, the menu doesn't look that exciting but by the end of the meal I understood - they're simple but elevated, high-quality dishes and many are rotating to incorporate seasonal ingredients. We ended of splitting the chopped salad as our starter, which was delicious - I'd definitely get again. For my main, I went with the Strozzapreti pasta with mushroom ragu and it was incredibly good. I also snagged a bite of my friend's gnocchi and it was perfection. Service was great too - our waiter was very attentive, got us out on time, and all of our orders came out quickly. The manager also stopped by our table to ask about our meal, which is always a nice touch. My half of the bill (wine+1/2 salad+pasta entree) was ~$65 with tip, so not bad for a delicious meal in River North. I think Siena Tavern just became a staple in my rotation. read more

We walked in and they had a room for us which was good because the Rugby match was in town and some places we checked had long lines. It was easy to meter park across the street as well. We appreciated the modern pub feel and the curved banquets. We thoroughly enjoyed our Bloody Marys and the Burrata app. Love the "tomato jam". We also loved the short rib hash. The only reason for only 4 stars is the very slow service. I even saw the manager taking orders. They must have been short handed or didn't anticipate the rugby crowd. I was invited by a vendor to enjoy a private dinner. The menu was selected by our host. The location was easy to get to and the staff were inviting. We sat in a private space that was well adorned. The servers were tremendous and the food was delicious. We started with huge wagyu and ricotta meatballs and toast as well as burrata with fig jam and toast. Amazing. We moved on to two pastas. Cacio E Pepe, delicious and truffle gnocchi with a cream sauce and pancetta, again amazing. Got seated quickly at our reserved time and the waiter came to take our orders and there was a little confusion at some point so we were short one appetizer, which wasn't a problem, but then they also ended up forgetting my gnocchi so it felt personal that I didn't get my dishes. They did get my food out to me quickly after it was brought to the waiter's attention. Food was delicious and drinks were good. Only notable thing was that one of the dish's pasta was undercooked. Siena Tavern was amazing!!!! I was really blown away with the food I had. The Brussels sprout salad was very flavorful & had a light vinaigrette on it. The sea bass melted in your mouth & was one of the best fish entrees I've had in awhile. The inside was pretty fancy feeling, so it's a great place to go for a celebration and good date night spot. We had a very large group (about 15-20 of us) & sat in their closed off room. Our service was great & they accommodated our large party very well! Went back to Siena Tavern again and was pleasantly surprised by the meats this time! For apps, as always, the burrata is still a favorite, but this time, the grilled octopus was also a favorite! We also got the ahi tuna crudo and the meatball, but I wasn't really a fan of either due to lack of flavor and the meatball was a little dry. For pastas, my favorite was still the gnocchi which is soo creamy, but the rigatoni was better than I remember it being, and the orecchiette and bucatini were also yummy. My biggest surprise was that I really liked the sea bass Milanese. It would've been my favorite protein if we didn't also get the braised short rib which was sooooooo good. The ribeye was also better than I expected as someone who doesn't usually like steaks. As for sides, I still did not like the brussel sprouts - they tasted kind of burnt. read more

Service was good - staff came often to check in. The lunch restaurant week menu ($30 bucks for 2 items) is pretty good and the salad and pasta were both a really good sizes and great options. The pasta was steaming hot and tasty. My friend did the burrata and burger, which came with fries. The kale salad is vegetarian and delicious - light and refreshing. The burrata had a tomato jam and came with a couple pieces of toast - it was slightly smaller as it was the lunch size. I thought it was great value for what we ordered - we even packed some of the food to go because of the size. We were visiting Chicago for Thanksgiving and thought we'd give the buffet a go. It was expensive, $85 per adult, but we were sure we would have an incredible meal. We were seated quickly, and our server took quite a long time to even acknowledge us. We brushed that aside, and headed to the buffet. The selection of food was good, but it was all average at best. The turkey was rubbery, the pork was mostly fat. For $85 a head, we expected far more than what we got. It was a real loss for us, both in experience and in our wallets. This is the second time I've been at Siena Tavern. Four of us went on Saturday night before a concert at the Chicago Theater. We were lucky enough to get seated at a round booth. Our server was Riley, who was friendly, engaging, and provided very good service, as did the other staff members coming to our table. We never went without water and dishes were promptly cleared when emptied. There was one little glitch for me, but I'm still giving Siena five stars. The four of us started out with cocktails and shared the coccoli, which I never had before. It's a light puffy dough with cheese, prosciutto and truffle honey. You open the dough and put everything in like a little tasty Italian sammie. It was amazing! The four of us also shared the Siena chopped salad. For dinner I had the delicata squash ravioli with herbed ricotta and truffle. Very decadent. Unfortunately when I asked Riley if the sauce was cream based, she said it was a brown butter sauce. It definitely was cream based, which I would've never ordered. Miss for me but the ravioli is still five stars for deliciousness. My husband opted for the burnt pepperoni pizza, which had that perfect Napoleon charred crust. Yum. Our waitress was lovely and answered all of our questions with a smile, so I give an extra star for this. I also LOVED the No. 8 cocktail, which surprised me because I hate tequila. Now to the food-we tried a variety of items: Pizza (1/2 Truffle Mushroom 1/2 Margherita-I do love that they allow for 1/2 pizza); Gnocchi (nice texture but needed more salt and flavor); Rigatoni Vodka (needed more sauce and again...flavor); and Brussels (sadly very bland). Definitely a great place for good vibes, food and drinks. I really wanted pasta so I ordered the rigatoni alla vodka. This is a very filling dish! My friend ordered the brick chicken and it looked so good and juicy! If you are looking for something to share the caramelized Brussels sprouts are delicious ! We were in from out of town to see a show and had a reservation for ten ladies. The number kept fluctuating, as some were unable to make it last minute, and two were unsure if they would get there in time - they did not. Siena Tavern was very wonderful in accommodating us. They set the table for eight and never made us worry about if the two would show or not. We had a wonderfully relaxing lunch that was amazingly delicious. We could not have asked for anything more. The food was exceptional. Among us, we had the brick chicken, cacio e pepe, meatball, Cobb salad, a few cups of the spicy squash soup, and the roasted Brussels sprouts. Everything was amazing. We stop in at Siena every year when we are in town for our book club's Christmas weekend. It is a staple in our weekend schedule and we have never been disappointed. We highly recommend it. My friends and I had a phenomenal time at Siena Tavern. We made reservations about a week ahead of time and had no wait upon arrival. The service was super attentive and friendly. The restaurant is spacious with rustic, warm interior. But most importantly, the cocktails and food were amazing. For my drink, I ordered the No. 9 which is made with cazadores blanco, grapefruit, mango, lime, smoked salt syrup. It was refreshing and fruity, which was perfect for me. We started off with Coccoli for the appetizer, which is crispy dough with stracchino cheese, prosciutto di parma, and truffle honey. This was absolutely delicious. Everything was tasty on its own, but when put together, it was even better! The staff mentioned that this is one of their more popular menu items. We definitely recommend ordering this to share! For entrees, we ordered a pizza - half truffle mushroom and half burnt pepperoni. I loved that they allowed two different topping options. They have a huge pizza oven and preparation area that you can see from the dining section. The pizza was perfectly cooked and both halves were flavorful. For entree, you have to try the pizza at the Siena Tavern. We ordered two pastas - the Orecchiette and Gnocchi. The gnocchi was the favorite between the two. It was made with truffle cream, fried sage, and crispy pancetta. It was creamy, aromatic, and heavenly. I would note that the staff is extremely attentive. Our water was always filled, the food came at perfect timings, and we had great conversations with our server. I will definitely be back to Siena Tavern and highly recommend! read more

More than a decade in River North and still successful! On a rather messy winters night, Siena Tavern still brought their A game. Very large restaurant space with a bar and various formats of seating including large circular booths. Decor and vibe certainly meet the standards of the neighborhood. We were met with a warm welcome from beginning to end. Great service and attention from everyone. Finally the food did not disappoint. The vibe being modern Italian. We started with the coccoli, a platter with crispy dough, prosciutto and cheese. There are varieties of this in similar spots across Chicago but they hold their own on this one. Be sure to wrap the prosciutto in a roll with the cheese and place it in the dough like a sandwich! For the mains we shared the truffle mushroom pizza and beef short rib. The pizza crust was amazing...wood fired, light and topped to perfection. Beef short rib was a special and something they are testing out. Please keep it! An uncommon pairing with risotto and caramelized onions/reduction that works really well together. Only complaint is that the cocktails were meh. Creative but the execution is lacking. Finding a spot to eat in a big city like Chicago is hard, I'm the first to admit that so I don't fault a restaurant for lacking availability on short notice. I try my best to be prepared but the nature how the news is delivered is often a disappointment in itself. Not the case at Siena Tavern, my man at the front took great care as if I was his family to check if there was anything at all. No suggestion to check an obviously full bar, he walked over to make sure himself. And when there was one less seat than needed, he went and got one for us. Good service is always a way to start. Bar service is a bit hectic, you definitely need to be a little more involved if you want food. Either way, the bartender was very nice despite a very busy night, he took care of us. Espresso Martini was as good as I've had, typically the coffee element is undelivered but not the case here. I could have had another and another. Food came out fairly quickly and my short rib was perfect. Will definitely look to come back in the future on a night where I am more prepared. read more
