What a great office! I was so pleased with the service I received from Sierra Eyecare Associates. From my initial call to schedule my first appointment to my new patient exam...everything was great. The girl that took my call was super sweet and worked with my schedule to get me in within a couple of weeks. My interaction with the front desk staff was equally as pleasant..they had me fill out my paperwork and I was taken back a short time after. The tech that did my first few tests was really nice. She took care of the first few things and took me to the room to wait for the doctor. I saw Dr.VanBuskirk...he was awesome! He was professional, answered all my questions, took his time, didn't seemed rushed at all. I really liked that, a lot of times you go to a dr appointment and feel like they are on a time restraint, I didn't get that impression at all with Dr.Van Buskirk. He explained everything he was doing and what everything meant. I was impressed. After my exam, I met with another tech who helped me choose frames for my glasses. She went over other options available to me but I never once felt pressured. I chose my favorite and she put the order in for me. They called me today ( a week and a half later) to pick up my glasses and my experience was just as easy and pleasant. I was in and out in 5 minutes. I love my glasses and I love my new eyecare office! I highly recommend....five stars! read more

The staff at Sierra Eye Care VS is very caring and professional. We've been going there for over 20 years and only have good things to say about Dr McGeorge and the other doctors, Fran and the gals at the front desk gals, and opticians, Shirley and Katie. Recently I went in to select frames but over the course of a few weeks have been indecisive about my choice yet Katie has been extremely patient with me. And they are very responsible with their eye exam prescription, standing behind their work. The entire experience from beginning to end is comfortable, making you feel welcome to be part of what feels like a family business. Our family highly recommends this office. read more

Friendly staff, professional environment, understanding doctor.

We have been going here for the past few years, but we have finally put up with enough of their antics to go elsewhere. Customer service is poor. The owner doc and associates are friendly, but the staff don't seem to know what they are doing. We also tried to order contacts and they would not renew our prescriptions. My prescription has not changed for years, and we feel this is just a way to get more money out of us. When we have gone in for a visit in the past, the staff is always pushing to get a retinal scan from their high-end scanner. Money is already tight and the exam is already over $100, but they want to take on another $80 for this scan that when we asked them, they said it was optional. We also asked for quotes on Lasix, but the price kept changing from $4000 up to $4800 and beyond, in less than a month. What? How can you run a business like this? We are going to try Dr. Iwata instead. Update: After much negotiation, they finally renewed our prescription without having to get a new exam, but only for a one month supply. There are not many choices out here. Dr. Iwata is much more expensive, but perhaps you get what you pay for. I don't know if we will give them another chance. read more

I have been wearing contacts for 20 years, and I was happy with the contacts I had been wearing for the last few years, I just needed to go for a new prescription and "check up." I was happy that we had an optometrist close, now, but I began to question this choice when I showed up for my appointment. I felt like the doctor was brand new and didn't really know what he was doing. He gave me a new prescription, and luckily he gave me some samples because they were just awful - they didn't fit right and I was promised things that didn't materialize. I never filled the prescription and went back to my previous office, paid AGAIN in full for a new, correct, prescription, and I'll never go back to this place. I was bummed. read more

Very friendly staff! The doctor was warm and welcoming and seemed to care about his patients. I had high bp when I went in and he was concerned about it and took the time to talk to me about it and recommended a doctor for me to look into. Went back a week later to pick up my glasses and the experience was just as good. And I love my glasses! read more

Went there a couple of years ago for exam and reading glasses and was very happy with the doctor and office staff. Went back several months ago for an annual follow up and chose to not get new glasses. Couple months later changed my mind so I called to order upgraded reading lens made. When the lens arrived they had ordered distance lens instead. They reordered and didn't call to let me know they were in. I stopped by today to find out about them and the staff looked at me like I was crazy and said I had already recd them. After looking around they found them and fit them into my frames. To my surprise they were worse than my originals. Turned out they ordered the wrong ones AGAIN. The offered to reorder again but I said I was done. I just wanted a simple update for my reading glasses but it turned out to be too much to ask for. Now I'm waiting for a refund of the lens I've never gotten but paid for. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr Van Buskirk for several years!! We think he is wonderful!! I started seeing him because I had seen several other Drs and they could find nothing wrong,well he found that I had an infection in my eye!!! Prescribed medication and after a few months I could see clearly again!!! I had thought I was going blind! We think he is great! And all the staff are very helpful and kind! First time customer. I was the first customer & still had to wait over 40 mins to see him! Once he showed up, he was in there for maybe 5-10 mins. & didn't even asked me any questions! The only reason I went to him, is because my family doctor recommended him! read more

Bring your credit card or plenty of cash! Lots of hidden costs! Cha-ching! This is a compilation of 5 visits between 2001 and 2009 so the costs have probably gone up. I guess they are OK if you're rich. I went to them when I was recalled to military duty after Sept 11 2001. I needed a valid eyeglass prescription in 48 hours and they obliged with no cost beyond what my insurance paid. I guess everyone was patriotic back then. When I came home it was different: Exam copay was $15 Dr's ten second exam of old contact lenses was $10. I was never told there was a fee for this. Dr's ten second exam of new contact lenses was $10. He called it a fitting fee. I'm married and couldn't care less how ugly my glasses look as long as they work and they're paid for by my insurance. The cheapest glasses were over $50 more than my insurance paid. I had to ask for my prescription to go shop somewhere else. Otherwise they never offered it (over several years). I drove to Sacramento Eye Care and found an optometrist that took my insurance and I got my exam and either new glasses or contacts with no costs out of my pocket. One time when my prescription didn't change but my frames wore out, they put my old lenses into new frames that my insurance covered and I didn't pay a penny! After several years, they added a copay, so I thought I'd come pack to Valley Springs and save on gas. Wrong. When I was told my eyeglass prescription hadn't changed, I asked if they could put my old lenses into new frames that my insurance covered. The Dr said no because I could sue him if the lenses fell out. Really? Put that in writing! I once asked if he would help sponsor a local non-profit children's charity production (even $20 would help). The response was "I'll check with my partner and get back to you" Right. Now I visit my mom in the bay area and get my glasses covered completely by my insurance again. Just for convenience, I was about to call Sierra Eye Care again for my child's exam. While searching for the number I found these reviews and changed my mind. Thanks Yelp for showing me I am not alone! read more
