Although they had nice pieces, this place was a rip off. I had been searching for over a year for a specific type of setting and finally found one from a jeweler that only sells their settings through other jewelers. When I found out that Sierra Moon was one, I stopped in to see how much it would cost. Because of the rising cost of gold, they quoted me an astronomical number on the setting - 5k! When I said this wasn't something that I could do, the owner then said she would be able to take 500 off. I found another jeweler in old town Sacramento and they were able to sell me the same exact setting for 3700 dollars. read more

I was visiting from out of town when the ring guard that I wear on my engagement ring broke (I know I just need to get it resized, but haven't done it yet...). SO.COMPLETELY.SNOBBY. I drove all the way up from Sacramento, and I was so disappointed in the attitudes of the staff. The impression was immediate - if you're not there to spend $2k, then keep moving. I had some jewelry I wanted to get repaired, and it was really awkward because it felt like they didn't want to be bothered with that type of work. To the owners - it's a lovely little store, but ask your staff to be more inviting. I may be there getting jewelry repaired now, but I'm really checking you out before we come back to look at wedding rings. And now we won't be. I hope others have a better experience and you take this review as constructive criticism and do something positive with it. Went here to get a quote on a simple ring repair, not knowing much about jewelry. With only one other person in the shop I waited around for about 30-45 min for someone to help me answer my question. When I finally got help, they were not that friendly and I was told I needed to come in another day to see if they could actually even help me with the repair. Out of curiosity I went to Roper's down the street to see what they had to say, and they fixed our ring in a matter of SECONDS. I'm from the Auburn area but live in NC, I contacted Sierra Moon And spoke with John about designing a custom engagement ring and wedding band. John was able to take a diamond I had ordered and several grams of raw gold I had collected from the creeks and rivers in the Auburn area where I grew up, and turn it into an absolute masterpiece. He was very easy to work with and offered great advice on how to make the best ring within my budget. During the process we called to make changes like add a date and decorative engraving, he was more than willing to accommodate. I brought a bracelet into Sierra Moon for repair and resizing. This goldsmith is 170 miles from my home. My mom lives in the town so I'm not making a special trip. The bracelet belonged to my grandmother and was broken when my mom gave it to me a few years ago. It was aquired in the 60's in Germany and is very unique. Certainly worth repairing. The folks at Sierra Moon are friendly and professional. They listened to what I wanted and made it happen. The price quoted for the work was very reasonable. They even agreed to buy the extra gold from removing links. When I picked up my bracelet it was perfect! Years ago they repaired my Opal ring and did a great job with that too. My husband bought a beautiful wedding band for me about 13 years ago from Sierra Moon. Needless to say I gained a lot of weight and had to have it sized. We live in Reno and took it and another very special and delicate ring to a jeweler here. That was a mess. What a botched job they did. Well Molly at Sierra Moon did such a wonderful job at fixing and resizing my wedding band that I came back with the antique ring to fix. In the mean time I saw a silver band that I fell in love with. My husband was wonderful and surprised me with it on our next visit. For a place that custom jewelry I think the prices are great and not a ripe off. I now have 2 custom bands and the wonderful ring my husband gave me 34 years ago all fixed and being worn daily. I'm so glad I took my beautiful ring here after getting an exorbitant repair cost from Auburn's oldest two location jewelry store. I had decided to just put my ring away not to be worn again because I had been quoted two separate prices of which I couldn't afford, one for replacement of two tiny diamonds and tips ($360) and the other for a complete repair of so many items, my head was spinning! That quote came in at eight hundred and forty dollars!! A friend told me to take the ring to Sierra Moon which I did and the owner thoroughly looked at the ring and gave me a total cost of of less than two hundred dollars to replace two tiny diamonds and repair the tips.I was so impressed with his honesty and the final work that was performed that I just had to post a recommendation. On 4/25/18 I picked up my family heirloom spoon that had been so tarnished I was expecting to be handed the spoon back with an "I'm sorry...we tried" but that's not what happened. When the spoon was taken from the tissue it was wrapped in, my jaw dropped. There were no words to explain what I felt. The 100 year old tarnished spoon that had been given to a wounded WW1 soldier, my grandfather, looked as it must have appeared when given to him at Windsor Castle in England in 1917. The tears ran down my face as I tried to search for words that would express my appreciation at what I saw. All I can say is I am one happy customer. I wasn't charged nearly enough for the quality of work I received. My hairdresser recommended this place to me and I can understand why. We worked w/ Linda Pierce, who was able to create a beautiful ring based on a picture we brought in. She asked specific questions about the gold we wanted, and correctly steered us to use 14k rather than 18k since my wife's other jewelry is 14k (and 18k would have had a slight color difference). She was able to create a very nice wax ring which we were able to look at 2 weeks after our initial visit, at which time she also showed us the diamonds we had requested and provided an exact ring fitting for my wife. On our 3rd and final visit, she had the ring ready for us, inscribed and perfect - no adjustments necessary, and a bit under her initial estimate. To complete the package, the independent appraisal was mailed to us about 2 weeks after that last visit. My wife is delighted w/ her 20th anniversary ring and we were given attentive and excellent service every step of the way for this custom piece of jewelry. read more

Excellent service from the genuinely friendly, skilled, and knowledgeable staff and owners. And today, after I collected my first couple jewelry items repaired by masterful goldsmith John, I can say without reservation that under its new ownership, Sierra Moon is the real deal. My antique gold pocketwatch fob chain required two tricky welds, which were perfectly executed. Antique gold cufflinks required straightening; again, stellar workmanship. As an added and unsolicited touch - free of charge, mind you, the chain was polished to a shine that shocked me when it was revealed. This was nothing I could have accomplished by hand, as the interior portions were tarnished and dirty from about a century of use. This piece is glimmering now, and ready for a new life. I was happy to find Sierra Moon Goldsmiths to do restoration work on my Art Deco engagement ring. I had been to many other jewelers all over the Sacramento area, some of whom said the work couldn't be done, or that it would take 5-wks to do, or I that I just didn't feel comfortable with because they weren't sure they could do the work or they seemed a little shady. Not only did I feel completely comfortable with them, but as they were very confident in being able to do the work, it made me feel confident in entrusting my ring with them. They did a FANTASTIC job, were quite timely and have amazing customer service.
