What a unique restaurant! 5 stars for the character this place had. Food was decent. Margaritas were delicious. Waitress was very nice.

We walked in just before 8pm on a Saturday night, after seeing they close at 9, only for the hostess to rush toward us to tell us that they were closed. The doors weren't locked, we walked right in. We stood there bewildered as the restaurant was FULL of people, the lights outside were on, etc. At first we really thought she was joking, then she oddly repeated, "he turned the sign off outside" a couple of times before we realized she was serious (no idea who "he" is). There was just a really strange, almost rude vibe coming from her. It almost seemed like she knew she was being dishonest with us and just didn't want to have to serve another table a whole hour before closing. We left, and checked outside for the sign she mentioned but honestly had no idea what she was referring to, and the sign to the restaurant was clearly on. It was so strange and we felt so unwelcome we'll never come back. And this would have been our first visit. So we drove a few blocks away to La Cina where we were warmly greeted, seated promptly, and served delicious food with a smile. Every single employee there was a delight and we felt so welcome. Forget Sierra Station, do yourself a favor and go somewhere where they care about your business, go to La Cina! read more

If I could give this place negative reviews I would. Horrible service. Horrible food, watered down drinks, servers mocking families. Owner held no responsibility refused to see us and acknowledge complaints. Made fun of a family coming in for their dead dads anniversary. A chimichanga is supposed to be a crispy deep fried burrito filled with delicious meat and topped with lettuce and sour cream and/or cheese. I have had better microwave chimichangas. This chimichanga was completely soggy. It was topped with rubbery cheese and frozen peas, green beans and carrots. In the middle was the blandest lukewarm chicken. The rice and beans were completely lacking flavor as well. Plus it seems that the styrofoam container was warped like it was put in the microwave. I will not be returning. You are better off at Tacqueria Mi Pueblo or Lupitas in mexican town. read more

Omg.... our dinner tonight was fabulous!!!! I had the delicious cheese enchiladas dinner. I could not decide, so I had one with ranchero, one verde, and one mole sauce. the staff could not be kinder or more accommodating. My husband really enjoyed his chicken fajitas. The guacamole is not to be missed!!! They swear nothing has changed. I am not usually a fan of the chips, rice, or beans - but their entrees are always very good. Tonight the chips, rice and beans were very good. Clearly the Golden Magical Spirit of Mexican Greatness smiled on Sierra Station. I will gleefully make it a regular visit. Cheers read more

We ate dinner here and we were not disappointed! Staff is top-notch, friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was amazing! I had the Enchiladas Verde and they live up to the menu claim of Chef's Specialty. One member of our party was vegetarian and she raved about the Chile Rellenos. Atmosphere and decor were fun. If Chef Boyardee opened a Mexican restaurant... First the chips and salsa. The chips...fine...tasted homemade and well salted, nothing special, nothing great, but unfortunately they were the highlight of the meal. The salsa? Godawful horrible. Ketchup + a metallic chipotle aftertaste that only got worse after you had a few chips...which wasn't that much of a problem, b/c I couldn't choke down any more than a few without thinking that I'd licked the inside of a tin can. The meals? Mindnumbingly bad. My chicken enchilada was made with 100% breast meat that tasted like a Tyson food service product. Completely dried out and completely immersed in tasteless cheese that did nothing but sort of add moisture to the dried out sponge that was my dinner. The refried beans were straight out of a can and the mexican rice was cold and flavorless. My wife had the enchiladas verde with one chicken, one cheese and one beef. Also horrible and enough cheese on the plate to ensure Wisconsin dairy farmers ample market share for the next few months. The chicken was more Tyson food service tasteless breast meat, the cheese one was greasier than than a Quick Lube and the beef in the beef enchilada was at least 3-4 days old. Honestly, this was the worst Mexican meal I've ever had in my life and I'd rather eat at Del Taco where at least they've heard of cilantro and they don't cram .5 pounds of dried out food service breast meat into any dish that has chicken in it. Okay, two point five reasons to go to this restaurant. 1. $2 margaritas on Thursday. As another reviewer already mentioned, they are potent and they get the job done. 2. The affordable, creative menu Just like many Mexican restaurants, you get a lot of cheese over whatever you order and you get refried beans, shredded lettuce and what not. READ: nothing special. They do have dishes that aren't loaded with cheese, but the coolest thing is they have interesting items like the almond chicken burrito. What the heck? Is the head chef Chinese-American? I am still trying to understand the what, why and the WHY, but it is pretty tasty and a welcomed change to standard Mexican fare. 2.5 You live around the corner from the place. For the reasons above, I am more than appreciative of this place. I can overindulge in Mexican cheesy goodness and imbibe. WIN! read more

Often times I need a box to bring the left overs home. An affordable children's menu and extremely kid friendly. Went last night for a last minute Cinco De Mayo dinner and drinks. It's the closest Mexican food place with atmosphere. Been there before, but I remembered why I didn't like it. Food does seem as if much of it comes out of the can... i.e., salsa, refried beens, nacho chips, etc. The food is not the only reason for the one star rating. We got there early, about 5pm, to beat the rush. All the staff seemed overwhelmed, even though they were not even that busy at this point. The owner was floating around helping out and chatting with people and I heard him makes several comments related to "we're hanging in there" and "how busy it is"... As a patron, I don't care. We waited about 20mins for a table. Here's the timeline of our meal: -Within 5 mins we had water and chips/salsa (good) -Minutes 5 to 10: drinks (good) -Minutes 11 to 15: appetizer (good) -I waited a bit to order main dishes because they seemed to rushing delivery (smart) -Minutes 40 to 60 eating main dishes (good) -Minute 60: order another round of drinks, plates half empty at this point -Minute 61: owner comes over with 2 to-go contains and says "You look about ready" (BAD) We were like, WTF! We gave him a strange look and took the containers. He cared more about flipping our table than letting us enjoy our time out. Never, ever again. read more

Good mexican fix. I will not deny that I am somewhat of a mexican foodie/snob after living in new mexico for 7 years. This place is not authentic mexican eats, but it is the closest restaurant in the area of grosse pointe that I enjoy enough to keep going to for a wet burrito or nacho fix. They even have Rellanos (I've updated this review since it's one of the things I actually love ordering from here). Cheese, seasoned beef, jalepenos, and tortilla. They have the basics, but don't come looking for sopapillas or menudo. The portions are fairly large for an affordable family dining experience. And great retro arcade gaming at the door for us big kids! Great friendly service, family run, and consistent with the food experience in the several times I've been here. This place has an awesome patio but as far as Mexican food, it's absolutely terrible. Not authentic at all but it's Grosse Pointe, so that's to be expected. My friend and I came here 3 times in the past year. It was never good. Honestly, I didn't even take my food home, you realize how bad it is when a guest declines a box to go and the plate is still full. It was very disappointing, dry beans, hard rice, zero flavor. I'm only hesitating to give 1 star because I've had such a long history with this place, but after 30 years as a customer, tonight had me never wanting to go again. Our server was fine, we had no problem with her. However, there was a man hurriedly running from one place to another around the dining room as if in a panic. His energy was extremely negative, and you could tell it was rubbing off on the rest of the staff. Judging by the way he was dressed (button down shirt with blue jeans) he didn't look like a server, he was obviously the owner or a manager. Three times he rudely stuck his arm right between myself and my fiancé to remove things while never asking if we were finished with them. It wasn't that busy, but he seemed annoyed that we were there and most certainly in a rush to get us out. My fiancé is in the food service industry and as a result we are keenly aware of how things can get in a busy restaurant and always give the benefit of the doubt. There was no room for doubt here. This man had no business in the front of the house whatsoever. He stuck his arm right in my fiancé's face to wipe off our table for the next guests before we were even able to fully finish our food and said "Are you looking for the check?" I thought, "Well, we are NOW!!" Advice to this guy, and I'm sure you know who you are, watch the show Kitchen Nightmares, and see how customers feel about an owner who is constantly out on the floor. Trust your people to do what they do, because you're REALLY bad at it. Bad enough to lose a customer you've had since 1988. read more

We were very disappointed when went in for dining and a waitress was wearing a mask underneath her nose and then the owner came over to our table and proceeded to talk to us with a mask under his nose as well without bothering to keep a 6 foot boundary. My husband and I felt very uncomfortable and wished we had spoken up but we will definitely not be going back. read more

Not sure how it took me so long to stop in here. Super cute Mexican spot. The place was relatively full when the hubby and I stopped in for a Sunday dinner but we were still able to get a table right away. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Corona Light all around for us - went well with their chips and salsa. Their salsa had just a hint of zip, which is just enough for a sissy tongued person like me. Wish their chips were warm (a particular fav of mine), but the tasty salsa made up for it. Like so many other Mexican restaurants, the meals arrived quickly. Beef enchiladas for my boo and the combo for me. Pretty much always do the combo. Everything was great. We both commented how wonderfully flavorful the ground beef was, so I would definitely recommend that. My combo had a taco, enchilada, burrito and tostado. Can't say there was much left when I was done ... We will definitely make this part of our routine and is a great Mexican stop if you don't feel like driving another 15 minutes to Mexican Town. read more

My third and final time dining at this restaurant. First at bare minimum the waitress is fine, she's busy I get it. The food comes out fast, you're seated promptly which is typical for a Mexican restaurant. I'm not sure if they want guests or not? Probably the worst service I've had in a long time. I've never had a fajita without a skillet, that's ridiculous. The plate was terrible and soaked with grease. The food went in the computer then poof we no longer existed. I was finished with my margarita before the food came and I would've had another had I been asked. I work in the service industry and most servers I know want to build their checks right? Nope not here they don't care if you like your food or if you need anything because they don't ask. read more

I live in California, but visit Michigan every year. This is better than most of our Mexican restaurants! The tamales were amazing, it is very hard to get good masa in a restaurant, these were top notch!. The wet burrito was perfection!! Enchilada was very good. BUT.... the best part, we were a group of 15, we were seated as soon as we came in, chips and salsas ( which was very good) were on the table as we were seated. Margaritas were strong and delicious! The food came out VERY fast! Our waitress, Deanna, was just great and very attentive! We could not have been more impressed! You don't know this I'm not easily impressed with everything! The food is always great, and margaritas are wonderful. The staff her is always amazing (waitresses, waiters, and bartenders). They just recently got new tables and chairs and it is such a cute place. Definitely would recommend. Been here multiple times and will be back. Prices are reasonable as well for how much food you get. There is street parking for free if you can find a spot (no meters) and also a few lots. The area around is tiny bit sketchy but overall still nice, just make sure not to leave valuables in car in plain site (as should be a rule everywhere), but I have never had a problem. read more

I really want to like this place because it's gorgeous, their margaritas are good, and they're always sooo nice but the prices and food are just so confusing. This isn't Mexican, but it's like a texmex white washed version which is fine... but I ordered a chimichanga and chips and small guacamole with a small side of salsa and it was $21.00 --how???? Oh my goodness...I don't even know where to start...I just got home from my maiden voyage to this restaurant and am still smiling! The food was EXCELLENT, best Mexican I have ever had, and I have eaten a lot at many different locations. I had the shrimp quesadillas and my husband had a wet burrito. Soooooooo delicious! Then we had the opportunity to meet the owner, Jeff, and we remarked at how lovely the decor was..,then Jeff showed us the banquet room. I thought I died and went to Mexican restaurant heaven. I'm utterly speechless. So with a tummy full of THE.BEST.MEXICAN.EVER and memories of the most beautiful colors and Mexican artistry, I will dream of my next trip to this most extraordinarily fabulous place. I've always loved the food here, but sadly tonight was my last time eating here. My dad found an ant in his drink. He got a new one and we went about our meal. I was drinking a coke and at the end of the meal as we were getting up to leave, I noticed a large ant in the bottom of my drink. The manager noticed me upset and apologized. He proceeded to mention to my dad and I that the place has been "overrun by black ants and we are waiting on the exterminator". Also, gives me a pat and says "it won't kill me"... Absolutely beautiful inside, very clean. Great margarita patio for the summer. Mexican themed knick/knacks adorn the walls. The food is terrible. Period. If anyone says different then they must be affiliated with Sierra station somehow. It's nowhere even near Mexican food. Yes the salsa taste like ketchup. The chips are disgusting hard and greasy at the same time. Somehow Fajitas: bland, greasy Tacos: bland, greasy Burritos: wet bland and greasy. It's a gem of a restaurant, please for the love of all that's good in the world, makes some MAJOR changes. Whatever it takes, try some fresh ingredients, maybe some new cooks. Perhaps an actual chef. We have always had great food and service when dining at Sierra station. Today, they went above and beyond! Less than 2 minutes after being seated my toddler had a meltdown. Needless to say it was bad enough where my husband had to take him to the car. Jeff kindly rushed a to go order for us and even helped me carry it to the car!
