Siesel's Meats is the original location if you love going to Iowa Farms in Mission Valley. These two locations will be our go to for getting high quality butchered meats. We typically go to Iowa Farms since it's close to us and we're familiar with the location. We love getting the potato salad and bbq baked beans (prepackaged) sides there when we stop in, but if you're not early on the weekend, they usually run out. So we decided since we'd be in the Bay Park area, we'll check out the original location, Siesel's. Glad we did! I wanted to make a slow cooker brisket one weekend, so it was perfect. Siesel's is a bit larger than Iowa Farms and feels a bit more open. Same great cow awaiting outside the store. But they have a whole deli counter with all the sides plus more! They didn't have any ready made prepackaged bbq baked beans, it was better, made fresh daily and we were able to get as much as we wanted at the deli counter. They also have several different Siesel's signature potato salads and pasta salads that aren't offered prepackaged at Iowa farms, which I absolutely love! My favs are the Asiago pasta and deviled egg potato salad. We also decided to try their Tri-tip sandwich made to order at the deli and it was delicious! Fluffy bun piled high with Tri-tip covered in bbq sauce and have the option to add cheese and anything else. Love it! Staff is always very helpful. Parking lot can get full on the weekends, and they can run out of the pre-prepared meats in the front counter, but make sure to ask if there's any more in the back or they may be able to prepare some for you! I have been coming here forever. It is not cheap but the quality of everything here is fantastic. This is a real butcher shop. There aren't many left in San Diego. Other than its sister store, Iowa Meat Farms, Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad (yes, they have returned), and the Wise Ox, also in Carlsbad, there are hardly any real butcher shops around. But these guys know what they are doing. Try their burgers and meatloaf. They are easy to cook at home. Try their steaks. You can get a legitimately excellent steak here for a fraction of what you would pay at a steakhouse and it will be BETTER than the steakhouse version. Make sure you ask the counter guys to season it for you before they wrap it up. Try their freshly-made sandwiches. Make sure you try their beans behind the deli counter. Their pimento dip in the refrigerated area is legendary and more addictive than crack (or so I have read). They have interesting sodas, craft beers, different mustards, El Indio chips, fresh breads, and a small but very well-curated wine selection. Is there anything they do not do well here? "No," is the answer to that question. They do everything well here. They have their own parking lot but it fills up quickly. There is not much other parking in the area. In the past, I have walked several blocks away in the residential neighborhood to get to the store when there is no parking available. And it was worth it. read more

Came in on a Tuesday late morning and it was me and two other patrons perusing around. The place is decently sized and it'll give you enough space to browse and think about what you want. The parking lot is okay. Enough for about 20 cars? But there's plenty of street parking. The parking lot also has benches with umbrellas for you to enjoy whatever you buy on site. There's a deli section where you can get gourmet sandwiches. And because the meats are right there, it's fresh and high quality. All Sandwiches Come With Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Onion, and Tomato. Bread options include but not limited to Torpedo, Sourdough, White, Wheat, Rye, Squaw. As soon as you enter the cashier is right in front of you. If you turn left you'll find a small stand with watermelons and some pies. There's a freezer with ice cream too. Behind that which runs essentially the rest of the entire left side of the room is the butcher shop. They pretty much have everything you can think of ... ribs, shrimp, pork butt, brisket, Korean marinade chicken, and so on and so forth. I went with Korean tri tip and filet mignon. Everything is priced per pound. The butchers were super nice. I liked them. The cashier was in a mood. Helpful when I asked a question but was definitely not happy about something. What's also nice is that there is a recipe page on their website if you wanted some additional ideas on how to prep some of their cuts. The rest of the store has everything you might need but the variety isn't deep. They have small boxes of cereal, a small produce department, cookies, a bakery section, frozen foods, dry rubs, postcards if you wanted one to mail out, charcoal etc. it's super well lit as well and clean. Under new management, the butcher side of this market looks sad as far as quality. Granted it has all displayed nicer, but the cuts of meat are not consistent the grade of meats and what is offered has changed significantly! It seems like they are trying to be a lesser quality market some of my favorite gourmet items no longer are there and lots of chips and cake, mixes, and things that you can get in a normal grocery store are prominently displayed. New ownership or management has decided to screw thel local customer base by issuing parking citations of $50 for parking in thier lot when they are CLOSED ! Having been a customer of Siesel's for at least 20 years to the tune of "Thousands of Dollars year, and have been parking in that disabled spot for years without any issues after hours... (disabled veteran) Well ...now I have been cited by some management company in get this ....New Orleans... for parking there when they are closed. I will give them an opportunity ro make this right .... if they elect to trip over a dollar to pick up a penny then they can kiss the thousands of dollars my household spends there annually goodbye. This is a long time coming but I have to say my piece. Several years ago I went to Siesel's, a long drive from Encinitas, and spent my usual $300-$400 on meats. I could put up with the snooty butchers, and the high prices, but when I asked to use the bathroom I was informed I could not because someone had "trashed it last week". I told the "manager" I'd spent a lot of money and she still said no. Plus, she was brusque and rude. Did I look like some low life that would do that? I was deeply offended. I got in my car and decided to not take "no" for an answer and went back in. Finally someone led me to an outside bathroom. Well, that did it for me. I get my meat online now, and it's better quality, waaaaay better. And their deli? Subway sandwiches are better, and that's not saying much. Well, I wish them luck, They're gonna need it. read more

I grew up in PB as a kid and my mother shopped here starting when Siesels opened in 1968. I've been shopping here for at least 40 years. Excellent steaks, lamb, bourbon chicken. Then the deli is so good! Not only good sandwiches but excellent salads. The best potato salad ever. I noticed the other day as soon as I got out of my car something seemed different. Sure enough by the time I was done shopping I noticed it was so organized. Even the parking lot is different. Everything has been redone but in excellent order. There just isn't anything you can't find and excellent customer service. I want to point out a very special person. I guess you could call him a greeter? He says hello or welcome when you come in and when you leave he says Thank you for coming. His name is Bob! He even helped me unload my groceries into my car. Came in here to browse while I was waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant, and this is a pretty cool little neighborhood meat market! The grocery side is pricey but well-curated, but this place is all about the fresh meat! The meat counters are amazing and stretch the entire length of the left side of the store. You'll find premium meat (beef, chicken, lamb, pork) including some marinated and some plain. This is the place if you're having a fancy pants cookout or plan to grill. The gourmet food is the type of stuff people who'd buy a $48 steak to grill at home would also purchase, and I was surprised at how nice the wine section is. The person who stocks this market really understands their clientele! This is a nice little butcher shop located in bay park. I was looking for a tomahawk steak and not there are no grocery stores that regularly carry this specialty cut. Upon arriving at siesels I was greeted by a huge meat case loaded with thick cut steaks that looked amazing. I didn't get to look around too much because I was in a hurry but I definitely will next time I come. read more

I'm submitting another negative review similar to my prior review. Torpedo sub was on a grocery store bun with little meat. Again, asked for vinegar & oil instead of mayo which is proper for an Italian sub and the sub arrived DRY. Your stupid employees don't pay attention which goes back to the owner. Wow! What a hit or miss. Have ordered prime rib from them for Christmas for probably the last 5 of 7 years. We have a very traditional Christmas meal. Cook it the same way every time. We got a 3 rib prime rib for $300. We were very specific about how we wanted it done (for $300, don't you think you can be specific?). Picked it up a couple of days before Christmas. No name on our package. No specificity as to what we ordered. Just "here you go, $300". It was awful! We cooked it the same way we have for years. No fat, chewy, tasteless. We're, at this point, literally throwing away $150 worth of meat. We tried prime rib bits the next night, and no luck. I'm really concerned we didn't get prime. This place charges top dollar and their product is just sometimes great, sometimes awful. read more

I thought long and hard before writing this. My husband and I love(d) this market (such good meat!). But won't be returning after multiple incidents. One of your butchers is a problem. (And since butchers carry big knives, I also had to consider whether making this statement at all.) Several times I have been in the store and witnessed a particular butcher (and you know who you are) be angry, rude or raise his voice to female customers and other staff. He makes inappropriate comments to Spanish co-workers in Spanish, and thinks it's ok. Once he appeared either drunk or high. I don't know or care, that's your store's business. But employees and their behavior reflect on this market. And I won't buy where I don't feel comfortable. I am not comfortable around this man. read more

Top quality meat! My boyfriend got me into going to this place for all of our fresh cooked meats. From tri-tips, to ribeye, to pork chops, even to premarinated chicken wings. Honestly the quality is uncomparable. In the price is very fair! It is a no-brainer to go here versus your standard grocery store, even costco. You're going to get high quality meat for the best price. They offer a large range of meats that are non-seasoned and premarinated. We like to change it up and sometimes by the non-marinated and sometimes the premarinated. I have many favorites! The Hawaiian tri-tip, the Korean chicken wings, and most recently the Sriracha pork chops. Highly recommend this place for all of your Butcher and meat shopping needs.
