    meat in a display case
    Erin K.

I stopped in to check out their hot food, but ended up just buying some cookies. The lines for the freshly prepared hot food were quite long, and I wasn't sure I could decide what I wanted (hard to see the menu while waiting in line). The store is small and crowded, with narrow aisles. I bought a couple of their fresh-made bakery cookies and then a commercial package of cookies. The bakery cookies were pretty good. Not my new favorite, but definitely tasty. The commercial cookies were ones I hadn't seen before and I LOVED them. They tasted like "Wheat Thins" but with a lot more sugar. So good and crunchy! I could see myself going back just for that. One other note though - I was taking pictures in the store and when I got to the bakery display case with delicious looking yogurt parfaits and stuff, an employee approached me and said I could not take pictures. This made me super disappointed and turned me off from coming back here again... :(

    ????

Ordered this cake a week ago to find out it has "HAPPY" misspelled the day of pickup.. I don't think anyone should have to pay $50 for that and not have it discounted. The store manager said for one letter, they can't do a thing and they can just re-sell it in slices? Why have a bakery and not fix it? This place is mediocre and won't have our business anymore.

We love little mom & pop type businesses. We always want to support these types of business. We ordered some of their hot food for lunch and my favorite thing was the Bao. Ohhhh it was so good. Definitely will be back. I want to try their pancit, but when we arrived they had just sold out. I placed an order for 6 large trays of food two days in advance. I believe you can call to order, but I contacted them via Facebook Messenger which was super convenient. The market itself is small with a limited selection of Filipino ingredients, condiments, and snacks, but it's very clean and well-organized! Service was impeccable; everything was ready to pick up in a timely manner, and the trays came seran-wrapped, covered in foil, and placed in boxes to keep the food warm and prevent spillage. All the workers there are super nice -- one of them even helped load the heavy trays into my car :) Everything was delicious, ESPECIALLY their homemade lumpia (which comes with the sweet chili sauce on the side). Their pancit was pretty flavorful (and came with sliced lemons), and their beef caldereta was good as well. I'd definitely come back to try their pork BBQ and turon!!

This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :)

We first kind of did an overview of the whole place, checking out the bakery, the kitchen (wonderful aromas) produce, and then the canned and jarred goods. Then I worked up my courage at the kitchen and asked the guy if he could help me, because I had no idea what I was looking at, but it all looked and smelled amazing! He was so sweet and after asking, if we were vegetarians, which we weren't, he then gave us samples of two of the most popular dishes. These were both stews and had such a complexity of flavor. One is with ground walnuts, and pomegranate juice and small little meatballs, and the other was this amazing mix of herbs and greens and fava beans, which I might not normally choose, but tasted great! We ended up getting containers of those and then tried a couple different types of the rice. One had dill and other herbs in it, while the other one seemed to have lentils and maybe raisins? Once again, so good. We also got a quarter chicken and he packed them all up. It comes with this wonderful yogurt, herbed condiment. Our only mistake was not also picking up some flatbread to go with it. I picked up a chopped cucumber and tomato salad, and it's great because they have the dressing separated inside the container so it doesn't get soggy. Yes, like most places in Encino parking is going to be interesting! Their parking is directly in front of their entrance and at first it didn't look like there was anything, but then we realize there actually was. I found everybody friendly, even had some very lovely woman recommend some of the nuts and seeds to us. Speaking of which they have an enormous selection of both. I had no idea there were so many different types of sunflower seeds to name just one of the selections. In retrospect, I should've gotten some cookies! We will definitely be back, I would think it would be a great place to stock up and treat friends to an interesting set of new tastes. If you're vegetarian, they have an enormous selection as well.
