I stopped in to check out their hot food, but ended up just buying some cookies. The lines for the freshly prepared hot food were quite long, and I wasn't sure I could decide what I wanted (hard to see the menu while waiting in line). The store is small and crowded, with narrow aisles. I bought a couple of their fresh-made bakery cookies and then a commercial package of cookies. The bakery cookies were pretty good. Not my new favorite, but definitely tasty. The commercial cookies were ones I hadn't seen before and I LOVED them. They tasted like "Wheat Thins" but with a lot more sugar. So good and crunchy! I could see myself going back just for that. One other note though - I was taking pictures in the store and when I got to the bakery display case with delicious looking yogurt parfaits and stuff, an employee approached me and said I could not take pictures. This made me super disappointed and turned me off from coming back here again... :( read more

Ordered this cake a week ago to find out it has "HAPPY" misspelled the day of pickup.. I don't think anyone should have to pay $50 for that and not have it discounted. The store manager said for one letter, they can't do a thing and they can just re-sell it in slices? Why have a bakery and not fix it? This place is mediocre and won't have our business anymore. It's not a destination market, but if you are already in the area, this market ROCKS. It's tiny, but it carries virtually anything you could need for Mexican cooking. This includes more regional products (like banana leaves) not found in every market... especially of its compact size. Produce is fresh, and you can get grocery store staples, too. In addition to excellent prices on Mexican cooking needs, the little hot food section in back is legit. Tacos, meat, rice, etc to go, and at great prices. They even had fresh nopales, not ont he menu - seems like they just offer whatever they have going that day, in addition tot he regular menu. There is a small pan dulce section, a butcher, and a juice bar. The juice bar is awesome - fresh smoothies of fruit and/or vegetables... it's like a juice bar in Mexico, and priced accordingly. I just love this little market in my town, but still feel a little pale everytime I go in. If you go all the way to the back of the market, there is a splendid meat selection. They also have a walk up order section in the back, where you can order your burrito to go. I come here for lunch a lot but yesterday I had the most pleasant surprise... Lengua tacos are my husband favorite, but they cost $1.20. my husband said that it was well worth it. We also got some chile relleno, the pablano pepper had some heat, but the stuffing is NOT melted cheese but rather asadero, which my husband and I did not particularly care for. I moved in the area a month ago and come here almost every day! They have tons of food to choose from. Hot food is fresh made every day and always something new to try . I've had the their Mexican torta which the bread is also made in store, the burritos are bomb too . I'm currently addicted to the pick de Gallo and guacamole they have, unfortunately the salsa chips are not made in store but are yummy. My daughter loves the Mexican ice pops and prickly pears. I cannot believe this place is in Thousand Oaks...I went to this place due to my former roommate's review (Johnny - see below) and it did not disappoint! I ordered 3 carnitas tacos with onions, cilantro and red salsa and I wish I had gotten 4. I couldn't believe how much meat they put in the tacos for $1.29 each!!! They were so good and I had a lot of extra filling. I also bought one of their pastries which was only 90 cents. I was surprised at the size of the pastry because they were a lot larger than what I am used to seeing. The pastry was soft and pretty fresh. Overall I definitely will come back when I'm craving authentic Mexican food. Just a note - the place is pretty cramped and small. It's also a market so there's things you can buy if you're in search for groceries. Word to the squeamish - this is not a place you want to go. read more

This place is really good. Parking is pretty good but can get busy. The Market is really big and just so you know they have the food area all the way in the back of the store almost like you have to go through a maze. Anyways they have very good prices on their food almost reminds me of a food truck. Burritos are like 5 bucks and Tortas as well about 5 bucks not bad. They also make the burritos right in front of you and from what I have heard from other people its homemade. The juices come in many different combos and all taste great. you can't beat the price anywhere for this quality juice. Fresh produce rocks here as well. Try a huge papaya for a great price. Sometimes a little dry or bland but never bad. 1/18/2014: Went back in December 2013 and they have obviously changed owners and cheapened their ingredients signficantly. It's now tasteless. Your typical latin marcado here, but something as simple as the pico de gallo and guacamole was a complete disgrace. No flavor. Some of the vegetables like onions and bell peppers were poor selection being that most were undersized. The carne asada and marinade was very good as it is at most marcados. The Carne Asada plate is packeddd with Carne Asada, almost two burritos worth of meat it seems, the burritos w/ sour cream, cheese, nd avacado's are to die for. My fave side dish is the weenies con chile (dont know the exact mexican name for it) but its spicy nd delicious! Amazing homemade authentic food. Came in the morning and the food was fresh and hot. Got the menudo, carnitas burrito, and carne asada burrito for my sister and me. The price was amazingly cheap and my stomach and pocket was happy. The portion to price ratio was fantastic even had some leftover so saved it for dinner.
