I was in the area and needed a quick lunch and a bathroom break, and I remembered that there was a relatively new Mitsuwa in Northridge! This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :) read more

I live nearby and stop by Mitsuwa pretty often. It's one of my go-to spots when I'm craving Japanese snacks or something quick to eat. They always have a great selection of Japanese treats, drinks, and things you don't really see in regular grocery stores. I usually grab their sushi sets and they're surprisingly good for a grocery store. The fish is fresh and the rolls taste clean and simple, just how sushi should be. Perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. The store is always well organized and it just has that authentic Japanese market vibe. My husband and I had a little marketplace date at Mitsuwa today to pick out some sushi & poke for dinner. I come to Mitsuwa often for speciality items like sticky rice, seaweed, miso paste and dashi broth mix. It's a small grocery, but closer than Ranch 99, and has more Japanese specific items than the larger Korean Galleria Market. It's a bit pricier than both Ranch 99 and the Galleria. It supplies various Japanese snacks, desserts, condiments, tea, soda, and alcohol. They also have a small produce section, frozen items, meat, and sashimi you can cut up yourself for homemade sushi, and fresh food items including sushi, poke, and karaage chicken. The sushi and poke were okay - better than your non-Japanese grocery, but not as good as we hoped. It was all fresh, and prepared today, but seemed to be generally lacking in flavor. The chicken was great. I think next time I'll grab one of their pre-packaged bento boxes instead. We sampled some Japanese beers including Kawaba Twilight Ale - great! I also grabbed some Hakutsuru Sayuri Nigori sake (floral and sweet sake to be enjoyed cold) and combined it with pomelo soda to make a great easy cocktail. We also grabbed some mochi ice cream for dessert, and some cute little cups that we ended up using for our beer and cocktail, but which could also easily be used for tea or hot sake. There's plenty of parking, but depending on traffic getting in and out of the lot can be tricky. Overall it's a decent little market. read more

What a nice place for some great ingredients , and a nice sushi snack. The little market is well maintained, and the staff was very helpful in pointing out where the items were. I was able to get some Japanese mayonnaise without the American added sugar. Some really nice selection of Japanese beers and great gobo. I stopped in here to get some sushi that Ive been hearing a lot about and I wasn't disappointed! They have such a wide variety of fresh made sushi, poke and they also have lots of fresh sashimi. You could eat it some it take it home to make your own sushi or poke bowl. They also have lots of great Asian skincare and beauty! Lots of cute Sanrio items and snacks as well. Went here a couple of times already and most recently the last 2 Sundays. My son is into cooking Japanese food and he wanted specific spices which he found here. They also have desserts that we liked and will return to buy those here. We also came after 6:30 pm on both times and noticed that they marked down their hot food and sushi. Good deal so I got a few hot items and sushi and sushi rolls. The hot bento items - well they're a bit cold already by the time I got home so popped it in the microwave and it was fine. The sushi rolls are ok as well as the sushi. There are soy sauce and wasabi by the checkout counter so make sure to grab those. I like the wasabi that they have here. If you want to make your own sushi- they have a good selection of fish and uni. Lots of fresh ramen selection that you can stock in the freezer. Sometimes the registers have a long line because they only have 1 but they also have self service registers. They do close those out sometimes so you really have to wait in line. read more

Hands down one of the best value meals in the Valley. I'm from Nor Cal, but whenever we visit family down here, I need to stop by Mitsuwa. The sushi is fresh for supermarket sushi and the prices are really good. If you do there in the afternoon, the cooked food and sushi is discounted. The food does get cold on the display, but you can warm it in the microwave by the entrance. read more

I had trip envy from several of my friends being on trips to Japan so I decided to Finally visit this store. I found many items I took home with me. They had a lot of ramen I had never seen before. They also had an extensive array of soy sauce which I need to investigate further . Everyone says this is a small store, but it has plenty to choose from. Japan has many wonderful products that aren't normally sold in the USA. Luckily, many of these interesting, beautiful and delicious things are available at Mitsuwa! This market is spotless and well-run, with a wide selection of foods and cosmetic items. Prices are fair and service is good. My only disappointment was I wanted an egg salad sando and they only had them with ham. Still, I enjoyed the selection and cleanliness of the store and will return. read more

This was my first time at this location of Mitsuwa. This storefront is much smaller than their other locations throughout California. Plus the store did not seem fully stocked- some of the shelves were partially empty. On a positive side their prepare foods were well stocked on a Saturday early afternoon with sushi and hot entrees. They seem to be restocking them as I was in the store. The food looked fresh, but I have not tried any of the prepared foods at this location. The price point for prepared foods seemed fitting for the items that they were offering. The store offers self-check out as well as cashiers. There were several self-checkout stations, but only one cashier opens at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. So prepare to wait. The parking lot is very busy within this strip mall. Be careful driving throughout this parking lot. Getting into the lot can even be difficult given the traffic in this area- especially during weekends. read more

Their shelves do not offer the full variety of other Mitsuwa locations, but you can get your staples here, including pantry items, produce, and meats. What seems to be most popular is their grab-and-go selection of sushi and hot foods. The selection is fresh and done very well with Nigiri and Sashimi items. Was looking for some dinner and I saw on Yelp there was a lot of premade dishes and sushi here to choose from. I also saw some people say that the shelves were empty and this was the case when I visited. It was towards the end of the day but some shelves were completely vacant! We still were able to get some sushi and a couple fun drinks to try. The sushi was pretty mediocre. I don't think I would get it again. You can also buy big pieces of fish to slice if you want to make your own sushi. I would come back here for snacks and dessert though! They seem to have a lot of items on sale so you can grab a deal on some things for sure. Overall, not my favorite place to shop, but if I need some specialty groceries. read more

Came here on a Sunday around 3-4pm. It's a small store with a few aisles of snacks, groceries, frozen foods, and hot foods. They even had grab and go sushi and poke bowls. There wasn't a lot to choose from at that time though. We got a couple poke bowls (ahi tuna and salmon). Thought it'd be better based on the other reviews but our poke was on the fishy side. Didn't really care much for the sauce either. Most of it ended up going to waste. We also tried the hot food (yakitori and bbq beef bento box). Again, not really impressive both had too much sauce and too sweet for us. The meatballs on the skewer were delicious though. Staff was friendly, there was a guy passing around samples of a drink mix but we declined. Parking seems sufficient, it wasn't crowded. Looks like they're mostly busy when they just open. Not sure if we will go there again, and if we do, definitely will go just when they open so that everything is fresh. read more

We love the food court at Mitsuwa Plaza! They have the best ramen & tempura place! Plenty of comfortable seating & always clean.

This is the most incredible store. There are new surprises around every corner. The variety of products and items available includes everything from yuzu ketchup to Hello Kitty branded face masks!! What a remarkable experience. I was captivated by the wide assortment of gifts, candies, fresh udon and soba noodles and all kinds of seaweed!! I cook with seaweed all the time and I loved the decorations on several of the gift sets! The staff I encountered were friendly and welcoming. I was able to find so many things I'd like to try that I wanted to share them with everyone. I will be back to explore more of the treasures here soon! read more

I have been meaning to review Mitsuwa since they opened but just have not gotten around to it until now. I was so happy when I heard they were opening a location in the valley close to me. Always would have to into LA or Torrance if I wanted to get specific Japanese items. With that said, this location is very convenient for me, but I have found it to be more expensive than other locations. Also, we love getting bentos for dinner sometimes and the bentos here are not nearly as good as the ones in Torrance. More expensive, less selection and smaller portions overall, so I still grab them from Torrance when I am traveling around that area. In a pinch we would get them from this location. They do have sales often and we are able to find good deals on things we like during sales, so we are always keeping an eye on sales to grab Nori, Miso, Oden Sets, sushi, etc. Love being able to have a location so close to grab stuff we need and not drive an hour or more to get it. Very nice to get the New Years Osechi Ryori, Japan's traditional food served during the New Year's holidays. The various foods have meanings for health, happiness, wealth, etc. so nice getting it here, thank you. This location is not that big, but it is clean and well organized, it has a good variety of items as well for the size and you can find pretty much anything you are looking for here. Sushi, veggies, udon, hot food, cold food, bentos, snacks, housewares, meats, seafood, sauces, wakame, tofu, etc. so much more. Enjoy! read more

The best thing that this Japanese market has is a great deli section and really good prices in its frozen section. The bad thing about it is you have to get there early because the selections go pretty quickly. If you come after seven everything is almost gone. But the prices are still good so it's worth, stopping in after seven I've been looking forward to having Mitsuwa in the valley for a long time. I never thought it would be possible and I'm really glad that they took the chance to open up. The store is looking better and better with its cool stock and promotions from different areas. I like the big signs that tell me what the promotion is so that I can get it before it's gone. That's the flipside, if there's something that you really like and it's a promotion, they probably might not carry it again or if you're lucky you can get it next year. read more

I hate to do this but this Mitsuwa needs help. It's always out of stock of almost everything common in a Japanese household. Produce is lacking, only 2 types of natto left, no eggs, missing whole daikon, Every time I go to West Covina or San Gabriel valley they are fully stocked. I don't know why this one is lacking so bad. Everyone that works there has no idea what common Japanese items are. It's sad. read more

Update: 3/17/24 Since my first visit when they opened, I decided to come and check the place again. It is better this time, no more empty shelves, lits of sushi to go, rice bowls, bento plates, yakisoba etc. however, I only came here to buy the frozen Okonomiyaki that I bought on my forst visit, my fave furikake and trying out an udon beef flavor for my son and the spicy salmon wrapped in roasted seaweed (the triangle one) not sure what its called. This Mitsuwa beach is one of their small stores but offers a variety of fresh seafood and sushi that is equally tasty and sumptuous. Located on Tampa Avenue and Nordhoff, in a smaller mall type location, Mitsuwa brings you Japanese food and culture in a nutshell. They also have groceries and a fruits and vegetables section where you can buy your favorite lettuce, cabbage and fruits. As usual, they also have a cosmetic section and a sauce section where you can buy your own Ponzu sauce or Yamasa Soy Sauce of your choice. This market is a great spot. Just found out about it about a month ago and everything they have here is quality. Premade sushi boxes are tasty and they cut the prices after 6 PM. The poke bowl isn't worth it to me because there is too much rice And less fish. All other premade packages have been great. Also, if you really like strong wasabi, their wasabi packets at checkout are very strong, clears my nasal for weeks. Staff here are very helpful and friendly. Really dope spot.! read more
