Hakutsuru Sayuri Nigori sake and pomelo soda make a great easy cocktail.
    Rachael M.

My husband and I had a little marketplace date at Mitsuwa today to pick out some sushi & poke for dinner. I come to Mitsuwa often for speciality items like sticky rice, seaweed, miso paste and dashi broth mix. It's a small grocery, but closer than Ranch 99, and has more Japanese specific items than the larger Korean Galleria Market. It's a bit pricier than both Ranch 99 and the Galleria. It supplies various Japanese snacks, desserts, condiments, tea, soda, and alcohol. They also have a small produce section, frozen items, meat, and sashimi you can cut up yourself for homemade sushi, and fresh food items including sushi, poke, and karaage chicken. The sushi and poke were okay - better than your non-Japanese grocery, but not as good as we hoped. It was all fresh, and prepared today, but seemed to be generally lacking in flavor. The chicken was great. I think next time I'll grab one of their pre-packaged bento boxes instead. We sampled some Japanese beers including Kawaba Twilight Ale - great! I also grabbed some Hakutsuru Sayuri Nigori sake (floral and sweet sake to be enjoyed cold) and combined it with pomelo soda to make a great easy cocktail. We also grabbed some mochi ice cream for dessert, and some cute little cups that we ended up using for our beer and cocktail, but which could also easily be used for tea or hot sake. There's plenty of parking, but depending on traffic getting in and out of the lot can be tricky. Overall it's a decent little market.

I stopped in here to get some sushi that Ive been hearing a lot about and I wasn't disappointed! They have such a wide variety of fresh made sushi, poke and they also have lots of fresh sashimi. You could eat it some it take it home to make your own sushi or poke bowl. They also have lots of great Asian skincare and beauty! Lots of cute Sanrio items and snacks as well. If you have one in your area I'd recommend checking it out!

Swore I reviewed the place when they first opened. My most recent visit was okay. It's no the Mitsuwa I am accustomed to. Compared to my past experiences here and other locations this place seems to be more bare in means of products. The aisles are pretty spacious.

Great small Japanese supermarket. It has all sorts of nifty snacks and other goodies. Just beware some of the things under the heat lamp might be kinda cold.

Instead of spending a fortune and yet only get small portions of sashimi and sushi at Japanese restaurants, pick up twice as much sashimi grade seafood (three kinds of fish, Hokkaido scallops, box of sea urchin and snow crab) at Mitsuwa and prepare your own Japanese spread. Look what we were able to assemble for less than $200. That includes a bottle of Junmai Daiginjo sake and six pack of Japanese beer.

If you are looking for for Japanese supplies and food this store has a selection of rice, Nori sheets, sauces, Sushi, Mochi ice cream etc. Service was fast there is also a self checkout. The ambiance friendly and clean, easy to navigate. If you can find something you can ask an associate that will show you. I'm definitely coming back for more stuff.

Went here a couple of times already and most recently the last 2 Sundays. My son is into cooking Japanese food and he wanted specific spices which he found here. They also have desserts that we liked and will return to buy those here. We also came after 6:30 pm on both times and noticed that they marked down their hot food and sushi. Good deal so I got a few hot items and sushi and sushi rolls. The hot bento items - well they're a bit cold already by the time I got home so popped it in the microwave and it was fine. The sushi rolls are ok as well as the sushi. There are soy sauce and wasabi by the checkout counter so make sure to grab those. I like the wasabi that they have here. If you want to make your own sushi- they have a good selection of fish and uni. Lots of fresh ramen selection that you can stock in the freezer. Sometimes the registers have a long line because they only have 1 but they also have self service registers. They do close those out sometimes so you really have to wait in line.

Hands down one of the best value meals in the Valley. I'm from Nor Cal, but whenever we visit family down here, I need to stop by Mitsuwa. The sushi is fresh for supermarket sushi and the prices are really good. If you do there in the afternoon, the cooked food and sushi is discounted. The food does get cold on the display, but you can warm it in the microwave by the entrance.

I had trip envy from several of my friends being on trips to Japan so I decided to Finally visit this store. I found many items I took home with me. They had a lot of ramen I had never seen before. They also had an extensive array of soy sauce which I need to investigate further . Everyone says this is a small store, but it has plenty to choose from. Some shelves were bare but I did go later on a Saturday Several items I purchased were on sale so that made them a good deal- other things I maybe wouldn't buy again unless they were on sale Packaged cake slices are very tasty I will definitely return

Japan has many wonderful products that aren't normally sold in the USA. Luckily, many of these interesting, beautiful and delicious things are available at Mitsuwa! This market is spotless and well-run, with a wide selection of foods and cosmetic items. Prices are fair and service is good. My only disappointment was I wanted an egg salad sando and they only had them with ham. Still, I enjoyed the selection and cleanliness of the store and will return.

Great options for sushi lovers! The location is small but perfect for a quick bite. We purchased a few items and will definitely be back.

Was looking for some dinner and I saw on Yelp there was a lot of premade dishes and sushi here to choose from. I also saw some people say that the shelves were empty and this was the case when I visited. It was towards the end of the day but some shelves were completely vacant! We still were able to get some sushi and a couple fun drinks to try. The sushi was pretty mediocre. I don't think I would get it again. You can also buy big pieces of fish to slice if you want to make your own sushi. I would come back here for snacks and dessert though! They seem to have a lot of items on sale so you can grab a deal on some things for sure. Overall, not my favorite place to shop, but if I need some specialty groceries.

Nice selection of Jaoanese food products (soy sauce, miso, ramen, etc.), quality meat, and excellent food-to-go options, reasonably priced.

When do they begin the food markdowns I went on a weekday and it was around 7pm they started but looking for a concrete reply?

I want to say maybe around 5pm. I've been there a few times around 5:30 and it is already marked down.

What types of fish sashimi do they sell here?

Tuna, Salmon, Cod, Yellowtail, Octopus, etc...they have lots of sushi and sashimi which to me, are the best you can find in a grocery store. Most of the other grocery stores have old and farmed salmon or other wannabe sushi of lower standards.

Does anyone know what time they start marking down the ready to go sushi and bento boxes? Which is better day to get the mark down items?

Around 6 Monday through Friday, see you there.

Can I bring my dog in a stroller?

    You cant i think.

    Do they have mochi?

    Yes they do

    Do you carry Otafuku Yakisoba?

Yes, but not all of the time.

Is Okinawa Awamori sold here? Also, is Orion beer sold here sold well?

    It depends.

Is EBT accepted here for food and if not is this something that will roll out soon?

When I was there about 2 months ago I asked and they said they didn't I don't know if it will change in the future though

Is sushi available everyday? I went today at 4pm but there was no more sushi?

Since it's a newly opened location, they tend to run out quickly.

Does this place have a food court?

No, they don't have food court.

Very lowkey LIQOUR spot…read more It's definitely a good spot you wanna go to for some booze. Very clean place. The staff was pretty cool friendly and helpful. My first time here and they make you feel welcomed. Very good variety of drinks I'll be back when I'm in the area it's just nice in there and big selection.

I live in Lake Balboa and have been a customer at Vintage since they were the Wine & Liquor Depot…read more I've always been grateful to have a store in my neighborhood with a wide variety of options and a knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately, tonight I had a bad experience at the store. I usually go there for craft beers. But a couple months ago I stocked up on some white wines. One of them described itself as light and crisp on the back of the bottle, which is in our taste wheelhouse. Well, we've had the bottle for a couple months and when we opened it last night it was a deep golden brownish color and the nose immediately let us know that the wine had turned. I poured the glass back in the bottle and put it back in the fridge. This evening I came into Vintage with the bottle and saw two staff members. One of whom I'd dealt with multiple times. They were watching the World Cup game on their TV monitor. I greeted them with a friendly hello and inquired about the game. Then I told them that I'd purchased a bottle of wine that had turned and asked if I could be credited. I didn't have the receipt but I'm on their points program and I knew they'd have a record of the sale. The person I'd dealt with before shot a look to their co-worker as if it was an odd request. But the look on their faces said they thought I might be trying to get something over on them. They went on to let me know that they have a zero return policy on alcohol. I told them I understood but that they sell expensive wine and surely if someone spent a lot of money on a bottle and it had turned that they would take the product back. The response I got honestly made me feel like they didn't understand the concept of a wine "turning". They suggested it might be accommodated in the form of wiring me money but it needed further approval. I told them to forget about it. To keep my wine and the money. It wasn't the money it was the poor customer service. I paid for my beer and left. I wouldn't have minded them getting clarification from a manager on the issue. But the vibe that was given back to me was that my request was not legit. Earlier I said that I appreciated their knowledgeable staff. But there has been some turnover in recent months and the people I used to rely on for suggestions haven't been there in quite some time. If your staff is educated enough to know the zero-return policy they should be educated enough to know that some wines go bad and that customers aren't being difficult for returning the bottle. Sadly, they've lost my business.
